Sex figures greatly in the Scream movies, as does the final girl's archetype. Psycho meets Halloween as Billy Loomis and Sydney Prescott's relationship is far more twisted than portrayed on the screen. This essay explains all this and why Scream 3 works so well. Mark J. Parker returns to “scream again” with Jeff Frumess over the recently released Scream 6 trailer. This will be the first Scream film to not start Neve Campbell as Sydney Prescott or David Arquette as Dewey Riley. Courtney Cox will return as Gale Weathers, making her the only constant through all 6 Scream films outside of the Ghostface persona. It's spooooooky month and we decided to watch one of the most successful spooky sequels, Scream 2! Coming hot off the heels of the original (just 1 year later!), we find Sydney Prescott at college, trying to leave the Woodsboro murders and the memory of her crazy psycho boyfriend behind her, even with the Hollywood version of her story now a major motion picture. But there is a copy cat killer running amok and Dewey, Gail Weathers, and Randy all try to help her (and stay alive) while the body count starts piling up. We talk about how legit EVERYONE is in this movie (even characters from the first who DIED have cameos?!), how it really seems like everybody dies in this one (brutal and poor Syd!), and how Syd continues to be one bad ass bitch even with all that past trauma! Also, what kind of a name is Cotton Weary?!!
December 20 1996, Ghostface is about to change horror forever and no one knows it yet. Terror meets comedy and it works on both levels for audiences worldwide. Wes Craven brings to life another frightening killer that stalks Sydney Prescott and her friends in a peaceful quiet town. One by one they all fall victim to this deranged killer. A seemingly random girl, the school principal, friends of Sydney; they all die. Who is the person (or persons) behind the iconic mask, and the true question we all want to know...Does it Hold Up? Do you like scary movies? In this episode, we revisit one of the most iconic horror franchises of the 90s because we apparently have a soft spot for Wes Craven. (Can you blame us?) Set in the fictional town of Woodsboro, California, Scream follows Sydney Prescott as she confronts a derranged killer in a Halloween costume determined to end her life. This horror classic manages to poke fun at the genre as a whole with self referential dark humor while still maintaining a suspensful tone throughout. This podcast was produced by Andak Media. This week on The First Run, Chris and Matt discuss the latest from the director of Chris' favorite film of the 21st Century, PTA returns with ‘Licorice Pizza'. A coming-of-age story in early 70's LA. A little slice of life film that's received some heat in the online discourse regarding the purposeful age gap of our stars. What's up with that? Then its on to the latest film from Matthew Vaughn as he continues the expansion of the Kingsmen franchise with an origin story, ‘The King's Man'. How did the super-duper private British intelligence agency come about? And does anyone else find it weird watching M as a kick butt secret agent? There's the completely enrapturing rundown of the big releases on Physical Media, featuring the Streaming and Straight to DVD Picks of the Week. In 1996, 2 masked killers brutally and strategically murdered 7 people in the peaceful town of Woodsboro, California. Utilizing horror movie and pop culture iconography as a coda to kill by. However, the ghost face killer hasn't been seen in over a decade. This is until Sydney Prescott returns home to promote her book and open up an old chapter from her past. A new generation of teenagers begin to get calls from an unknown number with an all too familiar voice. The rules of the sequels are thrown out and the reboot of the Woodsboro massacre is in full effect, the only questions are, what's the motive and who's the killer?

Welcome back to the totally innocent podcast! This week we are taking a look at The Case of Danny Rolling. If you are a fan of the slasher movie genre, then it may interest you to know that Danny Rolling was Kevin Williamsons inspiration for the script of the hit slasher film, Scream, in 1996. The stories are not 1 to 1, however. Danny never wore a mask, and did not ask the students what their favorite scary movie was.. lame.. but we do learn a little bit about the Sydney Prescott character and who that was based on. I was hoping for a little more Scream, and a little less totally terrible person, but we got the latter. Still a fun episode and I hope you enojoy! Want to write in to the show? Welcome back Reel Friends! This week, our hosts Alex and Walker dive into an interesting category, Movie Plots That Wouldn't Work Today. After some discussion, the two settled on the horror classic, Scream. Known as the Wes Craven film that reignited the fire for the horror movie genre, Scream follows the terrifying tale of Sydney Prescott a year after the murder of her mother. A new killer, who targets the girl and her friends by using horror films as part of a deadly game could be anyone they know, maybe even love. As Alex enjoys a childhood favorite and Walker settles in for a known classic he's never seen before, this movie proves that not all plots can be reused. Want to know more? A serial killer terrorizes the small town of Woodsboro, can Sydney Prescott and her friends make it out alive?
We're starting our Scream marathon off with the original slasher of the '90s, possibly one of the best of that era. While we've done other '90s slasher films previously, this one from Wes Craven and writer Kevin Williamson is the one that made all of the others possible. While we note some flaws that stand out all these years later, we're both still pretty taken with the film as a whole, especially noting that the hour and 50 minute running time flies by. Listen in as we talk all things Sydney Prescott and Ghostface, and stay tuned for the rest of the films in the franchise. *Had some technical difficulties around the 19-22 minute mark with input skipping. This has now been fixed, a few elements re-recorded and cut. Thanks for your patience! Once again, Jen and Dawn go on a journey of re-discovery through one of horror's most beloved franchises: Scream. With the 90's on the way out, Wes Craven and company embark on the "final" chapter of the Scream franchise. With the specter of the Columbine shootings looming large, the franchise pivots and doubles-down on the comedy with... mixed results. NOTE: This represents the first part of our look at Scream 3. The second will follow shortly along with our concluding look at Scream 4. This episode is the first part of a two-parter that covers Scream 3 and Scream 4. When Scream 3 came out, it was intended to be the last installment in the Scream series. While we know now that would prove to not be the case, in 2000 Scream 3 looked to be the conclusion of what original Scream writer Kevin Williamson said was always envisioned as a trilogy. And with film-geek Randy coming back from the grave (via videotape) to give us the rules of the trilogy, we know Ghostface is back. But this time Ghostface has gone Hollywood as he is stalking actors on the set of Stab 3, hoping to lure reclusive Sydney Prescott out of hiding. Is the meta-humor horror combination a winning one? Listen to Arnie, Marjorie, and Stuart to find out, and join us next week as we review the new release Scream 4!
