Just as Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy's Kong Quest improved on the original in numerous ways, so too did its classic instruction booklet! Once again written by Nintendo of America's Dan Owsen, with story by Rare newcomer Leigh Loveday, it's 30-plus pages of immersive table setting and subversive tablecloth pulling!
Featuring: Ashgar, Belghast, Grace, Kodra, Tamrielo, and Thalen Hey Folks! Bel was partially dead, and then holiday travel happened, and as a result, we ended up taking a few weeks off without really intending to. We are back and hopefully for more than a few weeks, but given another holiday is looming, who knows. This week we talk about how all of the various ARPGs out there seem to have a contingency of aggro fans, and discuss the reasons why, but also why we are not quite as doomer on them. Bel talks a bit about the release of the Druid and the Vaal league coming up in Path of Exile II. Tam discusses a new Chinese MMORPG called Where Winds Meet, which seems to push Gacha elements aside and produce a really wild experience. From there Grace discusses a Raid Healing Simulator if the form of Wild Growth, and Kodra, an alternate universe Donkey Kong Country in the form of Windswept. We have a revisiting of a topic we have discussed more than once, about why PVPVE fails… this time, how it ruins the otherwise joyful experience of Arc Raiders. We wrap the show up with some rapid-fire topics about various books and media we have been consuming. Topics Discussed: ARPG Players Angry Last Epoch Path of Exile Diablo IV Path of Exile II Druid and Vaal League Where Winds Meet Wild Growth Windswept PVPVE is Bad Revisited Short Topics
Celebrating three decades of Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy's Kong Quest! Hyle and Dustin discuss how the second Donkey Kong Country game still holds up to this day, now made ever more relevant thanks to Donkey Kong Bananza.
Nintendo reignited the home video-game market with the Nintendo Entertainment System in the 1980s, but by the early 90s the Japanese game company found itself in an unexpected position: Player 2. The 1989 arrival of both Sega Genesis and Turbo Graphx 16 – more powerful machines, with aggressive marketing campaigns positioning themselves as the “radical” upstarts – officially kicked off the first wave of the console wars. Nintendo would answer with 1991's Super Nintendo, a sleek machine that would eventually be home to a slate of eye-popping games. Jumping from 8 bits to 16 encouraged developers to push the bounds of creativity. While the system would be unseated by the N64 after a mere five years, the SNES library features what are considered to be among the best entries in the company's line-up of original IP. So get ready to play with SUPER power as the Great Pop Culture Debate looks back at the Best Super Nintendo Game.Games discussed: Super Mario World, Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past, Chrono Trigger, Super Metroid, Final Fantasy III (Final Fantasy VI), Donkey Kong Country, Super Mario Kart, Mega Man X, Super Mario RPG, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles IV: Turtles in Time, Street Fighter II Turbo, Donkey Kong Country 2, Final Fantasy II (Final Fantasy IV), Secret of Mana, Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island, Super Castlevania IVJoin host Eric Rezsnyak, GPCD panelists Curtis Creekmore and David Silbert (of the Punished Backlog), and guest panelist Erik Slader from the Super Switch Club podcast as they discuss and debate 16 of the most awesome Super Nintendo games. For the warm-up to this episode, in which we discuss even more Super Nintendo games that didn't make the bracket, become a Patreon supporter of the podcast today.Episode CreditsHost: Eric RezsnyakPanelists: Curtis Creekmore, David SilbertSpecial Guest: Erik Slader, Super Switch Club PodcastProducer: Bob Erlenback Editor: Bob ErlenbackTheme Music: “Dance to My Tune” by Marc Torch#nintendo #supernintendo #snes #snesgames #snesgaming #videogames #supermarioworld #supermarioworld2yoshisisland #zelda #legendofzelda #alinktothepast #zeldalinktothepast #supercastlevania4 #finalfantasy #finalfantasyiii #finalfantasyii #donkeykong #donkeykongcountry #donkeykongcountry2diddyskongquest #supermariokart #mariokart #supermetroid #metroid #megaman #megamanx #streetfighter2 #chronotrigger #secretofmana #supermariorpg #tmnt #tmnt4 #videogames #90s #90sgamer #90sgamesSee Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

This is the pre-show planning and banter for episode 308, recorded and edited basically by accident?? Enjoy?? Microtopics: * The old saw that if the teacher is 15 minutes late, you are excused. * All the hosts forgetting about the podcast so that episode just doesn't get recorded. * The seam in the fish video. * Procedurally vs. manually textured terrain. * How to texture a limestone chunk. * Whether Donkey Kong Bananza is deliberately evoking the sickly sheen of Donkey Kong Country's raytraced art. * Procedurally decorating terrain in Techtonica. * A lens flare shaped like bananas. * Mario Kart opinions. * Doing a stunt for the next 30 seconds. * The Baja 1000 but with Mario Kart. * How Mario Kart tries to make highways interesting. * A souped-up Volkswagen Beetle driving 1000 miles through the desert * Mario Kart except it's Desert Bus. * A Hunter S. Thompson stand-in sent to report on Mario Kart races and ranting about the Mushroom Kingdom. * Keeping your powder dry in case your anecdote gets promoted to Topic. * Topics that have been in the bucket for a long time and probably will remain there for a long time. * Doing a brass fall with your mouth. * Finally learning to play "Imagine" on piano. * Zoom's musician mode. * Going on a date with twins to the same restaurant but neither one knows about the other, so you have to keep going into the bathroom and parting your hair the other way. * The episode of Three's Company where there's a misunderstanding. * Don Knotts making a weird face. * Your prospective roommates explaining that you have to pretend to be gay so the landlord doesn't think you're all having sex with each other. * More behind than ahead. * Keeping cats in the Storage Atrium. * Buying an organ from a salvage yard. * Bartering with the organ maker's apprentice. * The Estey Organ Company. * Playing a bad prog rock solo on the analog synthesizer next to your couch. * An organ with all of its organs showing. * An accordion with zero subtlety. * The difference between an electric piano and a digital piano. * The Yamaha Clavinova with Advanced Wave Modeling. * Don't play these notes unless you want to hear them forever. * Topic Negotiation. * Driving every single topic into the ground.

And Super Metroid is fucking special. Some will argue this isn't just the best game on the SNES, but the best Metroidvania game ever made. From the atmosphere, to the music, to the controls (minus the wall jumping), Super Metroid doesn't really have a weakness. It's unquestionably one of the biggest NES to SNES leaps ever, and as a listener pointed out, it not only launched the Metroidvania genre, but it still does Metroidvania-ing better than games that came after it. Masterpiece is all that applies here.My boy Dan from Dissect That Film returns to this week to talk about his favourite game of all time, Super Metroid. The first RTG dedicated to Super Metroid was fun, but the audio was bad, even by our low standards. So we're here to right that wrong and give Samus the episode she deserves. And before we hunt bounties, I put together another edition of the Infamous Intro! This week someone asks what, if any, success I've had advertising RTG on the internet. Am I planning to play Kirby Air Riders? And what am I hoping to see out of the Gears of War movie??Plus we play another round of 'Play One, Remake One, Erase One', too! This one features 3 of the SNES's best: Link to the Past, Chrono Trigger, and Donkey Kong Country 2.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

It's been a long, hot summer, but we're back just in time for Christmas in July! We've been playing the heck out of Nintendo's new Donkey Kong Bananza game, so we thought we'd take a look at the Christmas episode of the Donkey Kong Country TV series! "The Kongo Bongo Festival of Lights" has everything you could want out of a holiday-themed cartoon episode: A holiday-themed light display, a wacky O. Henry-esque gift-giving mishap, two warring factions coming together in the name of peace, and even a festive song or two! So yes, we're talking all about Donkey Kong this episode. The first half of this episode covers the Donkey Kong TV show (and also Avatar: The Way of Water, for some reason). The second half is when we pull the ripcord and just gush about Donkey Kong Bananza. Strap yourselves in, kiddos! Questions/Comments? Ever feel completely stuck—like a problem is just too big, too stressful, or too frustrating to crack? In this episode, I talk about the power of walking away, resetting your mind, and coming back stronger. Whether it's a brutal level in Donkey Kong Country 2 that stumped me as a kid, or hitting tight deadlines in the chaos of construction—sometimes the solution isn't pushing harder... it's stepping back and resetting. I also dive into how to prime your mind to get in the right headspace before tackling a challenge. Whether you need focus, calm, or energy—there are things you can do to shift your mindset before the battle even begins. If you've ever hit a wall, mentally or physically, this one's for you.

Donkey Kong Land, Rare's sophomore entry in the DK Isles, and the second game in the Donkey Kong Country lineage, turns 30! Hyle and Malik look back to June 1995 and discuss how Donkey Kong Land helped shape modern Donkey Kong fandom... and its parallels with the current Donkey Kong Bananza Hype Cycle!
Donkey Kong[a] is a video game series and media franchise created by the Japanese game designer Shigeru Miyamoto for Nintendo. It follows the adventures of Donkey Kong, a large, powerful gorilla, and other members of the Kong family of apes. Donkey Kong games include the original arcade game trilogy by Nintendo R&D1; the Donkey Kong Country series by Rare and Retro Studios; and the Mario vs. Donkey Kong series by Nintendo Software Technology. It's the final week of Ben's Japan trip and he's fresh from a visit to the new Donkey Kong Country addition to Super Nintendo World at Universal Studios Osaka! I agree with everyone that says this game is stunning to look at and the soundtrack is superb. It's creative and tells a story. Honestly, I like almost everything about Okami. Except, playing it... It definitely has some Zelda DNA in it and that isn't a bad thing at all. You're solving puzzles, acquiring power-ups, running through fields. You get to play as a wolf which is rad. I just didn't find the actual gameplay mechanics that interesting. The paintbrush mechanic is sic, but I feel it was under utilized. The combat is kinda boring. And while the writing is really solid (and funny), there's just a little too much of it. My buddy Bradley McCue returns to the show this week. He's a Zelda diehard and liked Okami a little more than I did.
