Prince Kai Fan Pod! A Marissa Meyer Book Club, The Lunar Chronicles
Rewind! In this weeks episode, my sister Lindsey and I watch the Netflix holiday film Princess Switch and provide live commentary. Happy Holidays! Stacy, a type-A planner with a penchant for schedules, takes a spontaneous trip to the charming land of Belgravia at the suggestion of her sous chef and best friend, Kevin. While preparing for the Royal Christmas Baking Contest, Stacy faces an identical stranger and a strange request. Free-spirited but royally obligated, all Duchess Margaret Delacourt really wants is one last chance to experience life as a "normal person" before she dutifully marries the Crown Prince of Belgravia. Stacy can give her that wish. Starring Vanessa Hudgens, Sam Palladio and Nick Sagar.
Welcome one and all! Join the boys as they head to the winter wonderland of Belgravia where they learn all about the struggles between a princess & a pauper
Vanessa Hudgens and Vanessa Hudgens star in The Princess Switch! Little to no effort is made to make this in any way plausible but it's still a pleasant movie. The rental house "Kevin" and "Stacy" have is fantastic, but what isn't beautiful in Belgravia, amirite? Besides the castle.By the way, only one of us thought it was a good idea to leave the rambling intro in. It wasn't Beth. Get bonus content on Patreon Hosted on Acast. A Patreon membership also makes for a fun and unique holiday gift for that friend who probably already has enough candles and coffee mugs (although if they don't have enough after all, we have those too!). Welcome back to Lez Hang Out, the podcast that thinks Vanessa Hudgens just may be the best actress of our time. This week, Leigh (@lshfoster) and Ellie (@elliebrigida) hang out with Catherine McCafferty (@catherine_mccaff), host of the viral Patreon digital series Pretty Gay, to talk about why Netflix's 2019 Christmas romcom The Knight Before Christmas Should've Been Gay. If you know us, you know how much we unironically love The Princess Switch trilogy. This movie has a similarly unhinged plot and more zany “Christmas magic” shenanigans than you can shake a candy cane at (although sadly, only one Vanessa Hudgens). What The Knight Before Christmas lacks in Vanessa Hudgens clones it makes up for in the introduction of Sir Cole, a golden retriever girlfriend from the 1300s that Brooke (Vanessa Hudgens) hits with her car and brings home with her. For our gay retelling we can't help but see Sir Cole's quest to become a ‘true knight', something he apparently could not accomplish in his own time period, as a trans allegory. In addition to the clear trans allegory, the entire story takes place over only 7 days! Within what is essentially one week-long date, Sir Cole has thoroughly convinced Brooke, her hot sister Madison, and the whole town that he is telling the truth with no physical proof. Nothing about the other characters' reactions to Sir Cole makes a lick of sense if this is a straight romcom. What woman is going to give an apparently mentally unstable man she has just met a key to her house? That's not a romcom, that's a horror movie. But when we put on our gay glasses and see Cole as the trans character he was meant to be, the result is a lesbian u-haul tale as old as time. We know one thing for sure, The Knight Before Christmas Should've Been Gay. We are heading to France from March 31st through April 6th for this year's BIG GAY TRIP! Join Ellie and Leigh for a vacay to Bordeaux and Paris where we will tour a winery, explore the catacombs, and dance the night away at the best gay bars. Gay tidings and happy December! We are starting season 3 with Vanessa Hudgen's Netflix christmas classic, The Knight Before Christmas. The final one of 2023 and it's a doozy. The Princess Switch is a cinnamon sprinkled malarial dream and no mistake. It takes all the best bits of Trading Places and Comedy of Errors and completely ignores them. It glorifies all monarchies like all of these f***ing things do, and reminds us all that all you need to do to find the one, is to start proceedings with knockabout deceit. Hudgens is good company, though. Merry Christmas Support the show

Summary: It's a holly, jolly holiday here on Hearts & Daggers! Today, Holly and Devin discuss books set during this holiday season. Whatever holiday you do (or don't) celebrate, these co-hosts appreciate the season for its coziness, the twinkling lights, and an excuse to spike hot chocolate with Bailey's Irish Cream before the seasonal depression really hits. Both books this round are on the lighter side, and for Holly that means just one (1) murder. Topics Discussed: The Heart (5:26): Devin discussed The Holiday Swap by Maggie Knox, a book chockablock full of fun romance tropes. Cass and Charlie are identical twin sisters living very different lives; Charlie is a glamorous cooking show co-host down in LA, while Cass helps run their parents' bakery in their quiet, quaint hometown. Due to a series of unfortunate (or fortunate?) events, they switch places without telling anyone and get a taste for how the other twin lives. Her key takeaways were: Written under a penname by two Canadian journalist/authors, The Holiday Swap is a delightful combo of The Princess Switch, The Parent Trap, and the entire Hallmark Channel without, somehow, being too much in a single book. Cass and Charlie are endearing protagonists and their love interests (a Physician's Assistant and a Firefighter) are unique, interesting, and just the right amount of stereotypically hunky. Unlike many holiday romances, the side characters in this novel are well-rounded and complete, adding depth to a light romance that does in fact include a small-town holiday festival with vendor booths, hot coco, and ice skating. The Dagger (20:28): Holly discussed I Am Half Sick of Shadows by Alan Bradley, the fourth book in the Flavia de Luce mystery series. Set at Christmastime in 1950s England, Flavia's family rents their derelict mansion out to a film crew for the holidays after they fall on hard times financially. Flavia is principally focused on finally catching Santa by concocting a glue that will stick him to the chimney flue, but when someone is found murdered in the mansion this 11 year-old pivots with gusto. Her key takeaways were: Written from Flavia's point of view, the book runs rampant with philosophical, literary, and mythological references with lots of dry wit and humor that allows our youthful protagonist to really shine. Bradley weaves in some Sherlockian moments in the novel; Flavia has chemical expertise and attention to detail that helps her notice aspects of crime scenes or corpses that the detectives all miss. Overall, the mystery itself was a bit lacking but the biting wit of the writing and a young narrator we can root for made this novel a true holiday delight for anyone who loves murder but also cozy season. Prince Kai Fan Pod! A Marissa Meyer Book Club, The Lunar Chronicles
Christmas is a magical time of the year, full of baking, switching places with an identical stranger, finding love, and deciding which of three characters doesn't survive the holiday. The BeWBs celebrate by taking on Kevin (Nick Sagar), Margaret (Vanessa Hudgens), and Stacy (Vanessa Hudgens) from The Princess Switch! In this episode not only do you get our classic character analysis with an FMK twist, you also get us creating a whole new and exciting backdrop for the events that take place in the movie! Oh no! A Duchess Switch didn't make the cut! But it's quite charming at times. Next Week's Movie: LAST CHRISTMAS
In the forty-first episode of 12 Days Pod, Dan and Cara discuss Vanessa Hudgens' life, the absolute chaos of the Princess Switch universe, and Cara slowly loses her mind.
It's time to make the yuletide gay! Come for the Christmas cheer and stay for Vanessa Hudgens putting her whole Vanessa Hudgussy into the tango while another Vanessa Hudgens does backflips into a split while slinking sexily around a bunch of lasers while a third Vanessa Hudgens meets with a convent disciplinary board on behalf of the Vanessa Hudgens that previously kidnapped her. This week, Leigh (@lshfoster) and Ellie (@elliebrigida) hang out with writer and comedian Colette McIntyre (@yungbabayaga) to talk about the Netflix Christmas romcom trilogy The Princess Switch, which we will now forever be referring to as P Swi. If you haven't seen these movies, buckle up because you are in for a holigay treat. The basic premise of the trilogy is that Vanessa Hudgens is actually 3 identical women, all of whom are gay af and who have to continually swap back and forth pretending to be one another for progressively more ludicrous reasons in fantasy European countries that somehow are within like a 2 hour flight of Chicago. The characters are in theory cousins (although in Stacey's case, extremely distantly), but that can't stop us from shipping Vanessa Hudgens with Vanessa Hudgens with Vanessa Hudgens (Don't lie to us, you know you saw it in that tango lesson scene). The films do us a huge disservice by desperately trying to convince us that the Hudges are all straight, even Fiona who is literally the most flamboyant high femme we have ever seen. Stacey and Edward don't even sleep together anymore by the second movie, Kevin and Margaret are in a lesbian relationship (You cannot convince us that Kevin isn't a lesbian stand-in, they got married in a freaking airport!), and Fiona is 100% sleeping with everyone she's ever met while also being in a relationship with her henchwoman Mindy (they didn't give Mindy that purple hair for us to just sleep on her being queer as hell). Seriously Fiona probably is broke because she spent all her inheritance money spoiling Mindy while on vacation at a White Lotus. The third movie is arguably the gayest, mostly because it is all Fiona all the time. There are literally 3 entire Fionas at one point and every side plot revolves around Fiona. We learn that she has unresolved mommy issues, we'll take relatable lesbian problems for 100, and we get a really cute and quintessentially queer found family plot. We will eagerly await The Princess Switch 4: Romancing The Strap and will take to the streets if we do not get at least one additional Vanessa Hudgens (although they really owe us 2 since they did not add a new one into P Swi 3). We know one thing for sure, P Swi Should've Been Gay. Follow along on Twitter: Lez Hang Out (@lezhangoutpod) and answer our Q & Gay at the end of every episode.
