From Astro Boy to Gundam to real-world robots like ASIMO and Pepper, Japan's fascination with robots runs deep. This week, the Krewe is joined by author, cultural commentator, & robot enthusiast Matt Alt to explore how robots became heroes instead of threats in Japanese pop culture and how those sci-fi dreams quietly shaped Japan's modern relationship with technology, AI, and everyday automation. From giant mecha and cyborg icons to robot cafés and beyond, we dig into why Japan seems so comfortable living alongside machines in an episode that's equal parts nostalgia, culture, and future tech.------ About the Krewe ------The Krewe of Japan Podcast is a weekly episodic podcast sponsored by the Japan Society of New Orleans. Broadway just got turned Upside Down. “Stranger Things: The First Shadow” brings the popular TV show to life on stage.  Gabrielle Neveah, Alison Jaye, Burke Swanson and Juan Carlos join Google to discuss the play, which has been hailed as a “game-changing experience” that makes the unimaginable real. It's seen over 19 nominations across the Tony Awards, Drama Desk, Drama League, and the Outer Critics Circle. The play focuses on the Creel family, specifically on Henry Creel, telling the story of how they move to Hawkins, Indiana, and how Henry goes through his transformative years as a teenager, eventually putting him on the path to become one of the main villains of the show, Vecna. Throughout the show, we get to see the earlier versions of some of the TV show's most iconic characters. Watch this episode at youtube.com/TalksAtGoogle.

Ginny Maccoll, 73, has an unusual hobby. She competes in Ninja Warrior competitions. Last year, the Guinness World Book of Records named her the oldest female to compete. Though physically quite active from the time she was born, and a proficient dancer, it wasn't until her daughter became a Ninja competitor that Ginny started believing that she might be able to do that, too. She also competes nationally at the Sr. Olympics swim team. Ginny started dancing in 3rd grade and moved from Tennessee to New York City to embark on a professional career in dance culminating in performing in the hit Broadway Show, Pippin, in 1974.  This led her to roles on TV commercials, having her own radio show and appearing in a film with Diane Keaton. Ginny's view of aging is to keep trying to do more. Keep challenging your body and your brain." You get one obstacle after another and you can't let it surprise you. We have to keep moving so our moving parts don't rust."Connect with Ginny:Instagram: @ginnymaccollFacebook: ginnymaccoll
