3 Ways a Narcissist Fakes Love to Keep You

Does your narcissistic spouse really love you—or are they using "love" to keep you stuck? In this video, Dr. David Clarke explains 3 ways a narcissistic spouse may make you believe they love you: occasional love bombing, convincing apologies and promises to change, and periods of doing nice things for you. The problem? According to Dr. Clarke, these behaviors don't represent lasting change. Once you respond with hope, forgiveness, or relief, the abusive pattern begins again. In this video, you'll learn: • 3 ways a narcissist can fake love • Why love bombing can keep you emotionally attached • How apologies and promises can pull you back in • Why occasional acts of kindness can be so confusing • How these patterns contribute to the trauma bond • Why believing "he loves me, so he'll change" can keep you stuck • Why recognizing the pattern is an important step toward freedom If you're wondering whether you're married to a narcissist, need a plan to leave, want guidance through the divorce process, or need help rebuilding your life afterward, Dr. Clarke also offers phone advice sessions. I also address three common Christian objections to speaking up and explain why I believe those arguments misapply Scripture. 10 Exhausting Demands of a Covert Narcissist—and Why You're Never Enough

Play Episode Listen Later Jul 30, 2026 5:25

When you marry a covert narcissist, you may not realize that you are being assigned a full-time job: Keep him praised, pleased, protected, admired, and emotionally supplied at all times. The covert narcissist may appear quiet, humble, sensitive, or misunderstood to everyone else. But behind closed doors, he expects you to build your entire life around him. Here are 10 demands commonly placed on the covert narcissist's "cheerleader": 1. Constant attention He expects your time, focus, and immediate interest in everything he says. 2. Total devotion He does not simply want love. He wants to become the center of your world. 3. Endless praise You are expected to celebrate every idea, accomplishment, and opinion—whether it deserves praise or not. 4. Complete submission Disagreement is treated as disrespect. Independence is viewed as rebellion. 5. Affection on demand Your comfort, health, and emotional readiness may be ignored because his wants always come first. 6. Reverence disguised as respect Healthy mutual respect is not enough. He expects admiration without accountability. 7. Immediate attention to his needs You are expected to anticipate what he wants before he even asks. 8. Acceptance of blame Every problem in his life, your marriage, or the family somehow becomes your fault. 9. Agreement with everything he believes He must always be right, while your perspective is dismissed or mocked. 10. A cheerful attitude at all times He can complain, criticize, and rage—but you are expected to smile and remain pleasant. No spouse can meet these impossible standards. Yet the more you try, the more exhausted, confused, and invisible you become. Your feelings, needs, pain, dreams, and opinions slowly disappear because your entire identity has been reduced to supplying the narcissist. That is not mutual love. That is covert narcissistic abuse.

Your Ex Wants You to Feel Guilty | Here's Why It's Working

You escaped the narcissist... so why do you still feel guilty? Many survivors expect to feel relief after divorce. Instead, they feel shame. Regret. Fear. And the nagging thought: "Did I do the wrong thing?" In many cases, that isn't conviction—it's false guilt that has been built over years of manipulation and reinforced by outside voices. Here are six reasons many survivors continue feeling guilty after divorcing a narcissist: 1. Years of blame rewired your thinking. When you've been told everything is your fault for years, it's easy to believe the divorce must be your fault too. 2. Life after divorce is still difficult. Healing takes time. Just because life is challenging now doesn't mean leaving was the wrong decision. 3. Your children may be struggling. Some children blame the healthy parent, especially when the narcissist is influencing the narrative. That doesn't mean the divorce was a mistake. 4. Others criticize your decision. Well-meaning friends, family members, or church communities may not understand narcissistic abuse and may leave you questioning yourself. 5. The trauma bond hasn't fully healed. Emotional attachment to an abusive relationship doesn't disappear overnight. Healing is a process. 6. You're afraid you've disappointed God. Many Christians wrestle with this fear. Healing begins by studying what Scripture says about abuse, truth, wisdom, and freedom rather than living under constant condemnation. The goal isn't just to leave the abuse. The goal is to leave behind the guilt, shame, and fear that kept you trapped for so long.

Are Christians telling you to stay with an abusive husband no matter what? In this video, I show you exactly what to say when church leaders, pastors, friends, or family pressure you to remain married to a narcissistic or abusive spouse. If you're a Christian woman experiencing narcissistic abuse, you've likely heard statements like: • "It's not really abuse." • "You need to submit." • "God will change him." • "You have no biblical reason to divorce." • "Stay married for the children." These statements are not only wrong — they can keep you trauma bonded to a man who is slowly destroying you and your children. In this video, I explain: ✔ How narcissists use Christian "flying monkeys" ✔ Why love does NOT change a narcissist ✔ What the Bible actually says about abuse and separation ✔ How to give one strong, truthful response — and move on ✔ Why protecting yourself is not unbiblical If you are struggling with Christian guilt, spiritual manipulation, or pressure to stay in an abusive marriage, this teaching will strengthen and empower you. You are not crazy. You are not overreacting. And you are not required to stay and be destroyed.

In this video, I explain: Why narcissistic abuse creates suicidal ideation How covert narcissists slowly destroy your self-esteem The physical and emotional toll of long-term narcissistic marriage Why staying in an abusive relationship feels like "slow suicide" How to fight back and begin reclaiming your life If you are married to a narcissist — or recently divorced one — and you are struggling with thoughts of self-harm, you are not crazy, and you are not alone. Narcissistic abuse causes deep trauma bonds, emotional exhaustion, and spiritual confusion. But there is a path forward. God does not want you to stay trapped in narcissistic abuse. There is hope.
