2 TIMOTHY 4:1-8 | Preach It!

Play Episode Listen Later Aug 17, 2026 56:49

Faithful Christians are called to preach the Word, remain steadfast in the truth, and finish the race with their faith intact. In this message from 2 Timothy 4:1-8, Paul gives Timothy a solemn charge to preach the Word with patience and faithfulness, even when people turn away from sound teaching and seek out what they want to hear. As Paul reflects on his own life and approaching death, he declares that he has fought the good fight, finished the race, and kept the faith. His example reminds us that our calling is not to please people, but to faithfully proclaim the truth of God's Word and persevere to the end. Join us as we are challenged to remain faithful to Christ and His Word, regardless of the cost. 2 TIMOTHY 4:9-22 | The Cost of Faithfulness

Play Episode Listen Later Aug 17, 2026 48:24

Faithfulness to Christ comes at a cost, but God remains faithful to His people even when others abandon them. In this message from 2 Timothy 4:9-22, Paul writes from prison as he faces the end of his earthly life. He speaks of friends who have left him, others who have been helpful, and the loneliness that can come with faithfully following Christ. Yet even in his abandonment, Paul declares that the Lord stood by him and strengthened him. His example reminds us that faithfulness to Christ does not always lead to comfort, companionship, or ease, but we can trust that God will never abandon His people. Join us as we consider the cost of faithfulness and the sustaining grace of God when we stand alone. God commands His servants to deliver His people from slavery, promising He will be with them. In this message from Exodus 3:7-12, the Lord reveals His compassion for His suffering people and commissions Moses to go and deliver them. Moses feels inadequate, but God answers his fear with a powerful promise: “I will be with you.” This text shows us both the heart of God and the calling He places on those He uses. He sees, He hears, and He sends—assuring His presence every step of the way. “A Redeemer must be willing and able to redeem regardless of the cost and regardless of our estate.” —Rodney C. Brown Jr. Boaz moves from the threshing floor to the city gate. He gathers ten elders as witnesses and confronts the nearer kinsman about the right of redemption for Naomi's land and for Ruth. When the closer relative refuses once the full cost is revealed, Boaz publicly purchases both the inheritance and the Moabitess widow. Three movements structure the passage: • Witness to Redemption • Right of Redemption • Rejoice in Redemption The legal transaction at the gate displays God's smiling providence. A true redeemer does not calculate personal advantage; he is both willing and able to pay whatever price is required so that the name of the dead is not cut off and the vulnerable are secured. ROMANS 6:1-7 | Resurrection Results

“Believers have died with Christ and therefore are dead to sin.” —Rodney C. Brown Jr. On Easter Sunday the question is pressed: What shall we say then? Are we to continue in sin so that grace may increase? Paul's answer is emphatic—May it never be! Because believers have been united with Christ in His death and resurrection, the old self has been crucified. We have died to sin and are no longer its slaves. Baptism pictures this reality: buried with Him into death so that, just as Christ was raised, we too might walk in newness of life. The resurrection is not merely the empty tomb. It is the power that breaks sin's dominion and produces genuine transformation. Grace is not a license; it is the life-changing power of God that makes us new. “Believers trust in our drawing, revealing, promise-keeping God.” —Rodney C. Brown Jr. Moses, tending sheep on the backside of the wilderness, encounters the burning bush. God draws him near, reveals Himself as the covenant God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, and reaffirms His promise to deliver His people from Egypt. Three scenes unfold: • Catching sight of the theophany • Conversation with the theophany • Commitment of the theophany The passage confronts the root of anxiety—fear of what we cannot control and the dread of facing it alone. The remedy is not greater control but trust in the God who initiates, reveals Himself, and keeps every promise He has made. “God's covenant people can trust that He hears their cry, remembers His promises, and is faithful to His Word.” —Rodney C. Brown Jr. After 430 years in Egypt, the Israelites groan under brutal slavery. God hears their cry, remembers His covenant with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, and takes notice of them. Two movements structure the text: • The Cry of God's Children • The Response of our Impassible God The passage presses deep into theology proper—God's immutability and impassibility. Scripture's language of God “hearing,” “remembering,” and “taking notice” is not evidence of mood swings or newly acquired information. The God who never changes remains faithful to His covenant word. His people can rest knowing that their suffering is neither ignored nor forgotten. “When God's covenant people steal His glory, He chastens them for repentance and preparation for future use.” Moses flees Pharaoh's death sentence and lands in Midian. There God enrolls him in Wilderness School—forty years of humbling that will prepare him for future usefulness. Two classes mark the curriculum: • Protection – Moses again sees injustice (shepherds driving away Jethro's daughters) and acts, but this time without sin. He defends the weak and then serves them by watering the flock. • Direction – He willingly dwells with Reuel/Jethro, accepts a humble shepherd's life, and receives Zipporah as wife. The trajectory is downward in humility rather than upward in self-exaltation. God disciplines those He loves (Hebrews 12). He does not abandon His children when they steal His glory; He chastens them so they learn they are nobodies whom He can use for His purposes. “We must first be delivered by the Lord before He will use us to deliver others.” Moses, at age 40 and raised in Pharaoh's palace, sees the oppression of his people and attempts to deliver them in his own strength. He kills an Egyptian, tries to mediate between two Hebrews the next day, and is immediately rejected. His self-appointed role collapses, and he flees to Midian—entering 40 years of wilderness school. This message examines three movements in the text: • Attempted Deliverer • Attempted Mediator • Admission to Wilderness School It confronts the danger of ministry driven by compassion and self-effort without personal deliverance and dependence on the covenant God. Without a clear grasp of the gospel, even sincere leaders end up operating in the flesh and calling others to bootstrap their way out of sin.
