The parable of the talents is about how a master entrusts capital to his servants to invest and grow whilst he is on a long journey. The parable got me thinking about how we have human capital at our disposal but a lot of leaders today do not manage that human capital correctly. What do you do when your whole world is turned upside down and you are asked to accept it and give up?That was what happened to Susan Gabriel in the '80s when her new husband of 6 weeks was suddenly accused of abusing her daughter. Susan went through a roller coaster of emotions but she decided to fight against an unfair system. This was the start of her journey to legislative reform which has undoubtedly transformed the lives of many who experience the same thing. This conversation with Susan was enlightening and inspiring. Sometimes we find ourselves facing what seems to be insurmountable odds in business and we want to give up and throw in the towel. What I took away from my conversation with Susan is that sometimes God allows you to stand in front of the mountain not because you have what it takes to move it but rather he sees that you have enough faith to believe that he will move it, even when it feels like it is crushing you.You can get a copy of Susan's book from Amazon simply by following this link:Wheels of Injustice: Saving My Child from the Child SaversMore information: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B09FKL7KJM/ref=cm_sw_em_r_mt_dp_DHMYCYH29XM97PHDJVQTMr Daley  Mr Daley is the principal consultant of Yellow Eight, a design agency that focuses on digital marketing, user experience, functional design and analytics. Sometimes in life, we run at our careers at full speed without much thought to whether we will enjoy it and whether it aligns with our purpose in life. This generally leaves many of us feeling unfulfilled and trapped. We can at times find ourselves as passengers in our own lives watching our dreams pass us by. Some of us are brave enough to throw caution to the wind and change our course of travel but many of us stick it out, afraid to take a leap of faith. What does it mean to take a leap of faith? What is faith? Why do we need to have faith? My personal experience is that faith is paramount to achieving your dreams. In an ideal world, you would be able to see everything and have the foresight to see that it will all end well but the reality is that this just isn't possible. You have to visualise the end that you want and work towards making it materialise.Mr DaleyMr Daley is the principal consultant of Yellow Eight, a design agency that focuses on digital marketing, user experience, functional design and analytics. We all have goals and dreams! We all want to achieve something. The endpoint may not have crystalised in our minds, in fact, it may be a hazy dream seemingly riddled with obstacles but irrespective of that, it is our dream. So how do we make this seemingly hazy dream a tangible reality? Something we can touch and share proudly? Well, we need to set some milestones or markers that help us identify that we have progressed in our journey toward our endpoint. That is what a goal is! A flag, a stake in the ground that you work towards to allows you to see a tangible shift in your progress towards your endpoint. It is easy to just through a flag at a random location and deem that a worthy spot but does it really get you to where no need to be? Is it really en route to your destination or is it an unnecessary detour that takes you away from your purpose and your path?Goal setting is an important part of the entrepreneurial journey because we tend to dream big. We formulate grand ideas and schemes and we can easily trivialise the sheer enormity of our dream, not realising the journey before us and the need for adequate flags along the way.Having goals is also key to your well-being as you can set 'rest' points at certain key markers, whatever those markers may be for you.I hope you enjoy this episode as I share my experiences transparently.Mr Daley        Mr Daley is the principal consultant of Yellow Eight, a design agency that focuses on digital marketing, user experience, functional design and analytics. I have never been a person to shy away from honesty and transparency so I have made no secret of my struggles with my own mental wellbeing. I think that most entrepreneurs suffer this but I guess my personality type compounds this issue. I fall into a rare Myers-Briggs profile "INFJ" of which one of the characteristic traits is being a 'perfectionist'. This constant search for perfection in everything leads me to construct my 'ideals' in my head and try to make my reality align with those ideals. This characteristic is probably one of my greatest assets as a creative individual because it means I am never short of ideas and ways to make things better and I can always visualise a perfect state for these ideas but when reality doesn't line up, I start to stress out. This happens in every area of life so I consciously have to work towards levels of contentment in every area of life.My career has always been an area where I have had an ideal and standard that I wanted to achieve and this ideal has been elusive for a while. Add to this challenges that have set me back, decisions that have cost me and a lack of support, outside of my wife, you can understand how the feelings that lead to emotional, mental and physical fatigue can quickly develop and cause burnout.I am grateful that I have my faith, friends and access to professional advice, which have helped me to find my 'happy place' without giving up on my dreams and aspirations. I know my strengths and weaknesses and work within these to drive towards my goals.Entrepreneurship is a lonely journey because the people around you cannot see what is in your head, sometimes cannot appreciate and understand your vision and definitely are not as invested in your dream as you are. This can lead to a sense of isolation and give way to many other negative feelings and it is important to know how to recognise these and how to manage them.If you are struggling with your mental health and you need help, you can reach out to the following:Your general practitioner (GP)www.mind.org.ukmentalhealth.org.ukwww.nhs.uk/mental-health/David Daley        Mr Daley is the principal consultant of Yellow Eight, a design agency that focuses on digital marketing, user experience, functional design and analytics. 14 years ago, I took the leap of leaving my permanent role with a well-defined career path, prospects for management and beyond, a regular paycheck, benefits and bonuses. Looking from the outside in, it looked like a crazy decision to leave that world to step into the world of entrepreneurship. The decision was not really that difficult for me as I had a major client lined up and I was heading into a 3-month project with the client so it didn't feel too dissimilar to what I was leaving behind. The reality hit me when I wasn't feeling well and I needed time off, or I needed time off to handle something or I needed a vacation, basically, any time I needed time off. There was a financial cost as I couldn't invoice for any client time. The experience is far different for other people who are stepping into the realm of entrepreneurship and whilst I have been self-employed for a long time, I haven't really made the giant leap to the next level because I have created a safety net at the level that I am at. So what does it feel like to leap out of a plane without a parachute? Well, we can only find out from someone who has first-hand experience. I have been in the fortunate position of having money and not having money. Whilst you may think that not having money is not a fortunate position, I would argue that not having money gives you a whole lot of perspective. It helps you filter out the people who really care about you and those who are just there for a good time. Not having money is a humbling experience and you find out how deep your resolve is and what you can truly endure. I would say that you find out who you really are when you don't have money. My experiences have shaped my decision making and my value system and whilst I have deviated from my principles on occasion, my faith and the lessons from my experiences help me to quickly address the deviation and course correct.Money is a great enabler and it is an intoxicating drug. The more you have the more doors you can open and sometimes these are doors that you just shouldn't open. If your value system is skewed, the likelihood is that your access to money will drag you into an endless loop of trying to fill the gaps in your life with possessions only to find that the gap is only plugged momentarily and you need another fix very quickly.Even the institution of the church has been caught up in the idolatry of money worship and it has given birth to a gospel that teaches of God as a figurative ATM. "The love of money is the root of all evil", we have seen what people are willing to do or not do to fatten their pockets and it is sickening but whilst this love of money persists, it will never change. Governments, public figures, spiritual leaders, teachers and those in many other walks of life are infected by this virus and we are all faced with the simple choice at some point in life, happiness or money?I set out to explore whether we can have both and in this episode, I summarise my views.Mr DaleyMr Daley is the principal consultant of Yellow Eight, a design agency that focuses on digital marketing, user experience, functional design and analytics. WhyYou Need To Do Data

Data, in my opinion, is one of the sexiest things about business. Gathering information, joining datasets together to unlock insights about customers, products and services, identifying opportunities and flaws in your offering and many more applications. It just makes me so excited and it is something I can spend hours playing with. So, you will not be surprised that I am an advocate for data, no matter the size of your business and I think that anyone that fails to embrace data is absolutely crazy.I don't expect everyone to be as passionate about data as I am because the world would become an extremely dull place. That's not to say that we data geeks are dull, on the contrary. I just think that the world would be boring if everyone liked the same thing. Anyway, I digress. I have been a fan of data since my teenage years and I guess what I love about data is the hidden patterns. I love patterns. Geometric patterns, sequential patterns etc, I love them all. I love the consistency, the cyclicality and also the uniqueness of each pattern. I guess its, just the way I am wired. Patterns became even more exciting when I realised there was a business application and if you learnt how to exploit patterns you can find a cheat code for pretty much every business out there. For me, it meant a never-ending world of patterns to explore and a vast number of stories to tell. I love to talk about data and I love to get people excited about data so it was inevitable that this episode would take place.Mr DaleyMr Daley is the principal consultant of Yellow Eight, a design agency that focuses on digital marketing, user experience, functional design and analytics. As part of this, I learned that what the bible says in Ecclesiastes Chapter 1 verses 9 to 11 is really true. There is nothing new under the sun, everything has been done before. For that reason, if you are looking for information about something, if you search hard enough you will find it and it will help you speed up your process.I am not one for reinventing the wheel and whilst preparing for this episode, that point was proven again.Mr Daley     Mr Daley is the principal consultant of Yellow Eight, a design agency that focuses on digital marketing, user experience, functional design and analytics. Most entrepreneurs get bogged down in the detail of their business and make the error of becoming trapped, working in their business and not on their business. As a result, many entrepreneurs struggle to grow beyond their initial venture and become frustrated by their lack of progress. One of the most common reasons for this is a lack of scalability in their businesses. Many businesses are great single location businesses servicing a small segment of the market but once the owners try to expand, they experience some all too common problems:Lack of consistency in their products/servicesInability to meet customer demandLogistical problems and stock management problemsUltimately the outcome of this is a fall in customer satisfaction ratings which will ultimately translate to a decline in sales and reputational damage. In this episode of the Imperfectly Human podcast, Mr Daley provides an overview of how to structure your business for future scalability. We appreciate you watching and tuning in weekly. Um, we hope you enjoy this series. Um, and as we said, we're going to dive right into the application. So, uh, you know, what's her send me, let me, let me go first and I'm bringing it up.So, um, the first one, so yeah. First part. So the application, so how do we weather the storm well first things first. So [00:02:00] how do, how do I change my perception of the storm? Terrence: [00:02:06] Alright, so David: [00:02:07] now I'm gonna let you go. Yeah, I'm gonna let you go. Terrence: [00:02:10] Okay. So. When you break down perception, perception is all about sight. And so it's what you see, but also from past experiences, what you observe and then you anticipate. So in order to change your position of the storm, you have to one have a background that's rooted, not in your own experience, but in God's word. And then your sight has to change, which you can see to then what God is trying to show you. And I think if you can change those to what you remember behind you, but like what's informing instead of you informing your sight, [00:03:00] you let God's word inform your sight. And instead of you looking at what you can see tangibly say like, Lord, show me what this is. Supposed to teach me, show me, change in me or whatever, because I felt, I knew how to use my eyes, but I don't. So you then show me what this is supposed to do, not to me, but through me and for me. David: [00:03:33] So that's kind of how that's good. That's good. So I think, um, what kind of, what kind of hit me when you were saying that was, um, something some myself and my wife were watching, um, Uh, YouTube. Uh, um, and she was just talking about her therapy. She was cause she [00:04:00] talking about, she was being transparent about being in therapy because she suffered from, um, anxiety and panic attacks. And, um, so when it would come, she would start to feel overwhelmed and then the adrenaline would start to go and she would start to feel. The fight or flight response kicking in. Um, and her therapist said to her, remind, you know, remind yourself that you are not in any physical danger and. By breathing and slowing down and taking a breath and in and breathing, you start to remind your body that actually there is no physical danger anywhere around me, calm down, stop the adrenaline, slow it all down and take control back. And it's kinda this, it kinda made me think of [00:05:00] that. And, um, when we're in the midst of the storm, We need to stop panicking. It's kind of again, it's like they say when, um, Oh, um, I'm going to come back to this. I'm gonna come back to this man. I've got this from um I've got this from a show called in contempt.I'm gonna come back to this, but yeah, it's that kind of stop panicking. Stop panicking and slow down and breathe and calm down and realize that the storm is not there to destroy you. The storm is there to change you. Now, when we start to realize that it's not, if we, once we start to, to, once we stop the panicking. That perception shift can happen a lot [00:06:00] easier because panicking, we panic because we feel we're in danger. We panic because like we said, we don't want the devastation to be exposed, but sometimes it's a bit like, um, it's a bit like when you see, I used to watch extreme, extreme makeover home edition. And they go rebuild the house for people and you see the trail of destruction. And then all of a sudden, two days later, three days later, you see this beautiful, remodeled house. That was way better than what was there before. But the pain had to come. The destruction had to come. Then the devastation had to happen. The storm had to pass through and tear down what was so ropey and weak so that something stronger and new could be built. And that's [00:07:00] sometimes that's what we have to remember that this storm is not there to, you know, yes, the storm will leave a trail of destruction or devastation, but that devastation will clear away and make way for something strong and new. And, um, the thing that I was going to come back to was, um, They say when, um, people are drowning, they were talking to this lifeguard and they were like, Oh, so describe it.And they say most lifeguards drown. Um, not when they're trying to save people because the people panicking. When the lifeguard gets there, they push the life guard down involuntarily. So this isn't on purpose, it's involuntary and they pushed the lifeguard down, trying to keep themselves from drowning and they have to try and get, they have to approach them from behind and help them [00:08:00] calm down so that they can shift that perception.Of their danger so that they can see that they are no longer in danger, but. They're going to make it, they got help. And again, that's us. If we can stop flailing around and waving around arms around like a crazy person and see that in the eye of the storm, in the midst of it, once we get into the center of it, we are in the calmest part.We are in the presence of God and we have help to survive and weather that storm. And that storm too will pass. Terrence: [00:08:37] Y...

[00:00:56] Terrence: [00:00:56] All right. So we welcome you to part two or weathering the storm, I guess slash ship wrecked nowso if you watch them so far, last week, we kind of ended on something that David said about, you know, us being the conduit for God. And then he works through us to then, bless other people, instead of everything coming to us and this kind of hoarding all the blessings for ourselves. And then, um, I kinda mentioned about being shipwrecked. You know, about God we're to ship wreck our life. Go. We have so many things around us. You have to sometimes strip it down to just him and just allow him to be all we need. And I think with so much in the world right now, For us to aspire to have whether it's houses or money clothes or influence or whatever. It's always more things want to [00:01:56] add around this. And he got like, man, where the space for me, where am I in all these rooms out of these things that you got going on around you. And so sometimes he has to strip all the way to see you. Hey, you said you follow me. You know, you follow me if you don't have that?  If I don't bring that back to you.So, um, the, uh, so we'll go, we'll go into the questions. Uh, so the first question is why do we allow fear to overcome us in the midst of a storm? David: [00:02:32] So, um,If I take us back to what I said when I was describing what a storm means to me,when we, are in the midst of a storm, we feel we are in the midst of [00:02:56] something bigger than us something more powerful than us. Something that we have no control over. It's like, If you were caught in a tornado, you you've got no way to stop the tornado. You've just, you feel like you just got to sit it out and let the tornado pass. And sometimes that's where the fear kicks in because you've seen how a tornado can pass through and leave a trail of devastation. And sometimes, let me run with this. Let me run with this Tsometimes it's not even sometimes I think we don't even fear the tornado itself. We fear [00:03:56] the devastation that the tornado is going to leave behind. So. Sometimes we are scared that the storm is going to expose things that we didn't want people to know about. Sometimes we feel like the storm is going to shatter people's perception of us.Sometimes we feel that we just don't have what it takes to survive the storm.Sometimes we just fear that, you know, we are going to be overwhelmed.  And it's, it's funny because everyone in life puts up a facade at some point. Right. And, you know, when you've got a [00:04:56] facade, a facade it is what it is, isn't it it's, it's not, there's no foundation to a facade. It's just a covering to hide. What's really behind. And in the midst of a storm, the first thing that's going to be blown away and destroyed is that facade. So our fear is heightened when we know that. This storm is going to expose who I really am. And that's why a lot of us fear the storm. Terrence: [00:05:31] Yeah. Nah, I had to write them four down. I was about to say, I had to write that down, but man, because there may someone say about that, want to be exposed. And that's what makes us vulnerable because we won't allow other people around us to kind of [00:05:56] help. But the store will come and then expose really how we really felt about people around us too.Man. People think I really liked it.Perception too. I think that keeps a lot of us stuck is how other people would think about us. If we do something or we make a certain choice some of us will really, uh, accept the ship wreck that God is trying to, or whatever the storm is trying to produce in us but the perception,is what keeps us from doing it a lot.Yeah. So its like Lord I do want to give a lot of this stuff. But man if I start, like, [00:06:56] if I sell my house, I  move what are people going to say, they gonna think I'm crazy. Now. All that kind of stuff. and, that's how we, we second guess ourselves and override with God is showing us to do, because if you, if you really walking with God, you gonna look crazy that on a consistent basis.Stuff that you do and how you move and operate is going to be so foreign to other people its like its just going to come with the territory. So if that's one thing that well you just going to have to embrace that, because they comes. David: [00:07:30] Yeah.Terrence: [00:07:37] This is where it was good. And he is like, do that. So, so yeah, but I do want to kind of go through some of those, but my answer to the question, because I didn't want to, I didn't want to skip over what you said. Cause all that was, [00:07:56] all that was great. I had to come back to some of that, cause that was just good. Uh, I, for me, my angle is we don't know who controls the storm. So we get caught up in what's going around because we don't, we don't see God in the storm. We see the storm as being separate from God. Right. But then, also just like what you said about being the conduit or conduit. However you say it.God, God placed what we need inside of us, as long as we can, we stay connected to him. So that's the other part of the faith piece is that as long as we have faith in God, then we shouldn't be afraid of what God created. So God created all of this around the [00:08:56] storm. It got elements of him too. So why should I fear the storm when it's all part of him, but he not, he might go even like, like we said, even if I get ship wrecked,, it's not the storm that's going to kill me.And that what people got to understand being ship wrecked doesn't mean that you, die, being ship wrecked is that you lost what you didn't need. Yeah. And, and cause even, even, even this morning, I'm not going to any of the scriptures that I had down. So, uh, let me see. All right. So like this morning I read Matthew 17, 20. That he, and it's amplified whether he answered because of your little faith, your lack of trust and confidence in the power of God,  [00:09:56] I assure you in most solemly say to you, if you have living faith, the size of a mustard seed, you will, uh, let's see.Yeah. You will say to this mountain move from here to there. And if it is Gods will, it will move and nothing will. Uh, what did I do? Okay. Nothing will be impossible. So we all, we all heard about having the faith of the size of a mustard seed, but the piece that we, that I used didn't focus on, I didn't really catch you this morning. Is this you speaking to whatever is the barrier and saying. You have the, you have the power to tell a mountain to move from here to there if you speak it. So he not saying we gotta have great faith, we gotta have faith plus our word. [00:10:56] So just like, when you talking about, when you say the mountain last week, I was like, Oh,it fit  right now, but. While you were talking at the beginning, the song I told the storm came to me and it's all about, you know, you tell the storm like storm you're not going win and storm. You're not going to defeat me, stall you. So the very thing that you feel like is coming at you guys, or you probably will say like, Nope, you can't come this way.Like, Nope, not today. Like, Nope. And we all feel like we got that power to say like, Oh, Nope, I'm not going to accept, you know, poverty. I'm not going to accept stuff being taken away from me I'm not going to accept it. Not s...

We we operate in our gifts we appear to move in a way that nobody else can and we draw the attention, praise and awe of onlookers. Our gifts are as unique to us as our purpose is. Whilst there may be other people who appear to have a similar gift, when examined along with their purpose, it becomes clear that the gift is unique to them.To operate fully in our gift we must be connected to God with an understanding of our purpose. Our gifts activate an operate to the fullest in the presence of God. It is important that we shift our perspective from one of looking for God in our gift to one of us looking for our gift in the presence of God.David and Terrence share on how to use our gifts within our purpose instead of outside our purpose. As always the conversation is honest and transparent with a view of providing inspiration for living Christianity outside the 4 walls of your church and not just on Sundays!Subscribe to the Imperfectly Human podcast at https://feeds.transistor.fm/imperfectly-human or on any of your favourite streaming services.Follow Mr Daley:Instagram - @dydaleyTwitter - @dydaleyClubhouse - @dydaleyStereo - @dydaleyFollow Dr Johnson:Instagram - @lifeexcavatorClubhouse - @lifeexcavatorStereo - @lifeexcavatorThe Imperfectly Human podcast is #32 in Feedspot's top 90 Christian podcasts.
