[I&D On The Road] INBOUND '19: Day Three Recap

Play Episode Listen Later Sep 6, 2019 11:36

Today we share the last recap of #INBOUND19 from host and Creative Director, Jon Sasala. Follow Jon to the INBOUND show floor, two impactful sessions and a great meeting with a HubSpot team member. Show Notes INBOUND Show Floor: There are a lot of great individuals at INBOUND who attend to promote their companies and products. A standout one was a platform called Voicify. Voicify enables you to publish content on voice engagement platforms like Amazon Alexa, Google Home, etc. This is extremely interesting for our clients because as marketers it's our core mission to make ensure their content and brand is distributed wherever potential customers are engaged. Jon's Sessions: Deep Dive: The Step-by-Step Process to Creating the Ultimate Content Strategy for SEO with Aja Frost (Senior SEO Strategist, HubSpot) This was a "deep dive" session so rather than the standard 45 minutes, it was an info-packed 2 hour session. More of a top-level beginners guide, Aja shared step-by-steps of creating a content plan, 10x and resource pillar pages, among other content creation standards. Key Takeaways There are three different types of content you can produce when it comes to blog posts. Content that is geared to: Generate traffic Creating content that should rank Communicate opinion Creating content that people will engage with and share Generate leads Creating content that will be helpful and close the loop with your leads You should have a good mix of all of three in your content plans.  Magical Content: 7 Secrets to Content That Generates the Greatest Results, ROI, and Lasting Impact with Marcus Sheridan (President/Partner, Marcus Sheridan International/IMPACT) Marcus addresses his take on why content doesn't generate the expected return on investment (ROI). A typical assumption is that the content is low quality, but he feels the number one reason is lack of buy in from leadership, and a lack of understanding of what subjects to produce content around. You want to produce content that instills trust and answers the hard questions. It's likely you'll have to talk about pricing and compare your product/service to a competitor. You may even have to direct a reader to a competitor if your product/service is not the right fit. Marcus is the author of They Ask You Answer (a book that Jon's been geeking over). In the book Marcus covers the "Big 5," which are the top topics for generating leads: Cost Problems Comparison blogs Reviews Best of lists Key Takeaway Marcus shared a piece of advice from an IMPACT practice. On a landing pages next to the forms, they included a video “what will happen if I fill out this form?” This sets the expectation for the visitor, and assuages fears that come along with handing over your personal information.  Meetings: Meeting with Michael Redbord, HubSpot VP Services & Support A meeting with HubSpot VP of Services & Support, Michael, about the benefits of the Service Hub. We're trying to equip our clients with the most effective tools, and there were reservations on why to leverage the Service Hub if there are potential workarounds to the features included. He addressed concerns and discussed specific benefits. NPS emails (as opposed to hand-created NPS emails) Reoccurring emails that go to select contacts on a set basis with the intention of checking in and gaging satisfaction Set these up as protocol with new clients to gather intel we wouldn't have otherwise about their weak spots, what content to produce, etc. Knowledge Base (as opposed to using secondary blog environments)  Integrates directly with chat functionality and serves relevant articles to users when they ask a question Knowledge base articles have the thumbs up/down feature which gives you insight into if the article answering the specific query Has the ability to open a ticket right from the Knowledge Base article Tickets Pipeline (as opposed to using a pipeline in Sales Hub) When specific actions are carried out (sending emails to a certain address, filling out a form, getting a Facebook Messenger Message or a chat) tickets can automatically be generated Connect: Facebook Twitter Instagram LinkedIn YouTube Blog

[I&D On The Road] INBOUND '19: Day Two Recap

Check in with us all week for recaps of #INBOUND19 from our host and Creative Director, Jon Sasala. Day two's On The Road episode of 'Inbound & Down' details a jam-packed day of learning for Jon as he mixes it up with sessions that run the topic gamut. Show Notes Jon's Sessions: The Secret Sauce for ABM: Maximizing New Business & Lifetime Value with Jon Miller (CEO and Founder, Engagio) Led by Engagio, an ABM-specific firm, founder Jon Miller started the session with the classic (but perfect) comparison of inbound to ABM marketing—inbound is fishing with a net, going after as many fish as possible where some are the correct fit. ABM however, is fishing with a spear, targeting exactly who you want. The session covered ABM best practices, including the steps to building out a successful ABM campaign: Select accounts Create engagements Measure engagements Interactive Agency Talk – Unpacking What We Learned At INBOUND19 with Eric Pratt (Managing Partner, Revenue River) This session was a chance for partner agency members to gather and discuss the recent updates and announcements from the days previous. A large part of the conversation was devoted to the new Elite tier that is rolling out in early 2020, and the initial hesitations felt towards it.  Another big topic was reviews, and specifically third party reviews. Having reviews is integral to obtaining new business, and often having good reviews means more than having the highest tier. There are the typical review sites like Google, Facebook and Yelp, but also niche services like Clutch, who follow up directly with your clients to gather a review database. Elevate Rising Leaders and Empower New Hires: How and Why to Create a Mentor Programwith Molly Gilson (Principal Channel Account Specialist, HubSpot) and Elisha Bender (Program Manager for Customer Success Enablement, Mendix) This session discussed the importance and benefits of having a mentoring program for not just new hires, but for the company over all as well.  Valuable to: New hires Provides a safe space to ask questions and ensures they have someone to talk to who will help without judgement The company Identifying mentors within a company sets these individuals up to be managers The skills and confidence they gain in this position will make for an easy transition into higher roles Saves time in a managers day because they no longer have to be the full-time liaison between a new hire and their new position Recruits Having a mentoring program shows prospects looking and interviewing at your company that the employees are valued and invested in HubSpot Analytics Mastery: Turn Data into Actionable Insights in 15 Minutes orLess with Gabe Wahhab (Co-Founder & President, MAXG) This was geared towards a more entry-level HubSpot user, and how they can look at the backend of HubSpot to understand their analytics. Covered topics like sources, how to know what pages are performing well, what pages have high traffic but low conversions, etc. and how to improve using these analytics. Gabe shared a great tip relating to analytics views; with Enterprise, you can segment by multiple domains to filter by a specific domain. Why not take this principle and apply it to other ares? Create filters to view just pillar pages or FAQ blog posts for example, and gather specialized and granular analytics. The Future of Branded Content Is Podcasting with Sam Balter (Senior Marketing Manager, Podcast, HubSpot) Sam is the host and producer of a few of HubSpot's podcast, and he shared insights into why you should/should not break into the podcasting space.  Ask yourself 3 questions before starting: Are you unique, and can you provide something different Why should listeners care Should this be a limited run or ongoing series As the podcast industry continues to grow at this exponential rate, we can only expect more sessions like this at INBOUNDs future. We're highly invested in podcasts at Morey Creative, having been creating them for 3+ years, and launching our client-facing podcasting services earlier this year.  Connect: Facebook Twitter Instagram LinkedIn YouTube Blog

Check in with us all week for recaps of #INBOUND19 from our host and Creative Director, Jon Sasala. Today's On The Road episode of 'Inbound & Down' covers the official opening day of INBOUND, including the exciting sessions Jon attended and the main events of the day: keynote sessions from co-founders Brian Halligan and Dharmesh Shah. Show Notes Jon's Sessions: Marketing Then & Now: A Fireside Chatwith Kipp Bodnar (CMO, HubSpot) and Rand Fishkin (Founder, SparkToro) Discussed the evolution of marketing, and marketers today. A focus on how heavily data is relied on in marketing and how it's affecting creativity. Changes in data security are on the horizon and the industry needs to prepare for the new landscape with said changes. Examples: Chrome deleting cookies after 14 days Gmail following Outlook and disabling auto-load on images in emails Rand touched on what type of content works, and how it's ineffective to produce content for who you think your customer is. Rather, content should be produced for the people who will share your content and become influencers. The Robots Are Coming—How to Use AI to Make Smarter Marketing Decisions with Mike Lieberman (CEO and Chief Revenue Scientist, Square 2) A slight tie-in to Square 2's proprietary software, MAXG, this session discussed how to use data gathered from AI to make better marketing decisions. For example, AI can analyze a group of landing pages and decide which are worth optimizing. It can also be used to gather user data like best send times per individual person or overall industry (as well as much, much more). Agile for Marketing? Yes, It Really Works! with Wangui McKelvey (VP, Product Marketing, IBM Security) and Kate Reed (Vice President, Performance Marketing, IBM Security) Geared towards individual businesses, this session was an overview of how Wangui and Kate implemented Agile and Scrum into the marketing side of IBM.  -- Keynote Sessions: Brian Halligan and Dharmesh Shah Spotlight with Brian Halligan (Co-Founder & CEO, HubSpot) and Dharmesh Shah (Co-Founder & CTO, HubSpot) New Species of Disruptor | Brian Halligan Halligan introduced a new type of disruptor that is different from the typical B2B-type. This new 'Experience Disruptor' lives in the B2C realm. They're different in that these B2C disruptors aren't claiming a better business model, but are focusing on better user experiences. Five things that qualify an Experience Disruptor Focus on experience-market fit rather than product-market fit Processes are frictionless rather than friction-filled Customer experience is personalized, rather than anonymous Sell through customers rather than sell to customers Bust the typical business model rather than follow  Facing Fears: Growing Better By Growing Bolder | Dharmesh Shah Dharmesh used his keynote to share some personal stories and fears spanning from his childhood up until just this summer, where he conquered his fear of water for his son. Each fear represents a lesson learnt and they serve as a reminder to constantly grow and evolve in our day-to-day lives as well as in business. Five fears Fear of Commitment Fear of Differences Fear of Change Fear of Disappointing Fear of Inferiority Christopher O'Donnell Spotlight with Christopher O’Donnell (SVP of Product, HubSpot) Last year's big product takeaway was a new Hub. This year, HubSpot decided to focus on feedback and make its software easier and more accessible for the user. Using information collected from Net Promoter Scores (NPS) and the product forum, the team realized that requests were falling into two categories of "I need HubSpot to be easier," and "I need more." The updates are divided into those two categories: Easier Contact Deduplication Tool Find similar contact records using AI and merge Load speed Navigation loads immediately, and a contact record loads in 2.95 seconds up from 5.87 seconds Workflows If/then branch merging Folders in workflows Ecommerce Generate buy now links powered by Stripe More App marketplace redesign Showcases 300+ integrations and displays information more clearly Permission Sets You can limit access further within teams NPS Emails Now a part of workflows Adaptive page testing Test multiple different pages at once, and over time the highest performing page will be served.
