Empowering the customer pact for high business impact Growing your product, business or idea is about adding value for your customers and how your offering makes them feel. Building a product is not the same as growing the product. Strategic growth involves finding your customers, getting to know them, staying engaged with existing customers, and providing sustained value to drive ongoing profitability. We have all probably heard of many growth terminologies from its early days like growth hacking, growth marketing, growth engineering, and so on. Given the recent uptick in growth design roles as well as leadership for Growth design teams, the industry is maturing and ready for a stronger partnership with user-experience design. Chetana will give a primer on growth-driven design. In her talk, she will share a few critical areas of focus for leaders and teams to help evangelize a customer-centered approach to solving growth design problems.

Look at the data using tools like hotjar and heatmaps really help  You have to buy traffic - yes even in this Inbound world getting PPC and Facebook ads to jump start your inbound campaigns is ok if done correctly. Websites today need to be more than a brochure, they must have a story, design, text, and videos. Growth-Driven Design: Is It Really Better or Just a Different Kind a Pain?

Creator's Block

Play Episode Listen Later Mar 13, 2018 55:06

Last week, I devoted close to two days of my life revising, refining, and reworking the copy for a new piece of pillar content that will be launching later this week. It was all about growth-driven design. As a content and inbound marketer nerd, I've always understood the high-level value proposition of growth-driven design. "The traditional website process is costly, painful, and out-of-date. Growth-driven design is agile, better, leaner, meaner, etc. It's the future of website redesign, because it's built on a framework of continuous improvement." This all sounds amazing. In theory. But as I continued to work through the content, I couldn't help but feel a little overwhelmed by the demands of growth-driven design, especially given that sometimes it's put forward as a less painful website redesign approach. You need to create your strategy. You need to research your users. You need to create what are called fundamental assumptions. You need to create a wishlist. You need to prioritize that wishlist.  You need to prioritize that wishlist again. You need to create hypothesis statements. Lots of 'em. Then, after all that, you need to go through a miniature version of that broken traditional website build process -- messaging and content, UX, wireframing, design, QA, etc. -- to get your launch pad site live.  And all of those steps are to occur within approximately 30 days or so, and then you can get your hands dirty with the growth-driven design iteration cycles. So, this week, I decided to challenge my two favorite designer and developers with a question I'm sure other marketers are wondering: Is growth-driven design really better? Or is it just a different kind of pain? Because it sounds like a lot of work.

Coming from the digital web side of an agency, Luke Summerfield learned that there are a lot of problems in how agencies deliver web deliverables to their clients. After some extensive research, Luke discovered that delivering websites is often unprofitable for an agency. He began to explore how this service could be delivered more profitably, and successfully, and came up with the minimum viable website (a name that did not resonate well with clients!).This idea morphed into experiments within Hubspot's Partner Program that eventually came to be known as Growth-Driven Design. They've now launched a certification in Growth Driven Design in June 2016 to high acclaim. In this episode, we talk to Luke about agency growth, the problems that all agencies face, and how an agency can begin moving toward selling web services to clients in profitable, and more sustainable ways.
