I often think of self discovery as the gift that keeps on giving in many areas of our lives from our relationships, to our careers and even to the ways we care for ourselves. The more knowledge we have about who we are and what we need, the better equipped we are to thrive. Within this episode, I explore what self discovery is, practices & processes to help with self discovery & the ways in which it can serve us. I also explore some of the life events that have triggered my quest for learning more about who I am. I'm excited to share more about this subject over the coming weeks as it relates to different areas of life with some amazing guests. Love, Marbie
It's been a long time so let's catch-up on where I've been, what I've been learning and all I'm looking forward to this year. I hope you're able to take something from this that can serve you well. Love, Marbie
Want to learn about excellence embodies? Then Amin is your girl. Sitting down to speak with her years ago was incredibly insightful and enjoyable so I'm sharing a snippet of our conversation which you can find more of on the original episode (aired 6th Feb 2019). Here we discuss being able to explore multiple versions of yourself, why excellence matters & dying empty. Enjoy!
During this episode I explore what it looks like to be an active participant in creating the life you desire. Sometimes when we think about the good things that we desire out of life, there is often this message that comes along with it that is focused on patience and that can sometimes be misconstrued into becoming docile. I think we misunderstand what that patience is supposed to look like and what it really means in the healthiest possible form…because resting confidently in the knowing that certain things are for you is different from crossing your arms and waiting. So grab a drink and a notebook as we unpack some of what taking responsibility for the life we want looks like.
Years ago I spoke to Tiyana Robinson about Dreaming Bigger and in this excerpt, we discussed the stories we tell ourselves and how they hinder our progress and acceptance of our worth sometimes.
It's been a while but your girl is back with musings to share with you! Ever asked yourself if you're happy? Doing this requires an incredible amount of bravery but even more courage is required to truly move towards the things that make us happy. During this episode, I explore some of the reasons we end up feeling unhappy, the consequences that come with our pursuit of happiness and why we should go ahead and choose it anyway. As my friend Ani says, we must understand the consequences and still choose happiness with our chest!
If like me, you're intentionally moving towards the kind of woman you'd like to be, then grab a drink, put your headphones on and press play as we explore some of the key lessons learnt so far on the journey. Tune in and let's work towards ending the year with a bang!
In the second part of the episode with Faith Cole, we continue to explore friendship; we look at the complexities, the ways in which we can improve them and some of the ways we can manage changes that come seasonally that affect our friendships. We focus on extending grace and what that looks like practically as well as some of the ways friendship has transformed us for the better.
Friendships are the one relationship that I can say have impacted me more than I anticipated. From the formation, to enjoying the other person, to sometimes navigating the end of that friendship. I'm incredibly grateful to have had this conversation with Faith where we get to explore & unpack something that isn't often dealt with. We look at why she calls friendship the greatest gamble of the heart, what a healthy friendship vs. an unhealthy friendship looks like and how to navigate the many phases we come across in them. Time Stamps: Intro & Food Q&A - 0:00 - 20:30 Friendship Discussion - 20:30 - 54:00
For the second part of the episode, I share some of the things I've learnt through the grieving process as well as examples of what it has looked like for me. I explore some of the ways the loss of my mum still affects me and how I navigate that. I also share some ways you can support others who are going through loss based on my personal experience.
On the 5th of January 2014, I lost my mother after two years of her being ill with cancer. It's probably the toughest thing I've had to deal with continuously and speaking about it has been even harder. In this episode I've decided to share about the journey & some of what I've learnt in the hopes that it can provide comfort to someone else and something to relate to, but also that it continues the much needed conversation around loss & grief and provides insight for those who need it. I share about the period of her illness and what that was like mentally as well as familiarising myself with the period of mourning & grief.

Ever heard the idea that your salary is the bribe that you're paid to forget your dreams? Well I'm here to tear that notion down. Instead of viewing your 9-5 as this thing that works against your dreams, I'm sharing ways that it can actually help you whilst you're in pursuit of your dreams and passions. I explore some of the myths around work, entrepreneurship, things that have worked for me as well as some of the ways I fuse both worlds together.
Get your notepads out with your headphones this time because you'll need it for this episode. Makeup Mogul, Tiyana Robinson, came through and decided to drop several gems on us. We explored some of her experiences that got her to where she is today, alongside the ways she has challenged herself to dream bigger. In a culture often focused on what each person can get and where transactional relationships are prevalent, it was incredibly refreshing to sit with Amin to discuss giving. We discussed the art of giving, the benefits we gain from it and the lessons learned along the way. Amin is someone who is constantly giving, whether it's tips, advice, content, inspiration or art so I just had to sit down with her to find out why. It's a treat and I can't wait for you to listen because I know it will inspire you to look at giving & community differently! We also explore ways to find out what we actually have to offer and how it can be a domino effect once we learn how to give that freely.
It's the second week of January, so technically I'm still allowed to say Happy New Year right? Well I hope so because I'm excited to be able to share 10 things with you that I'm implementing in 2019 to make it my year! Yes, things don't always go the way we want them to but we can choose to take things by the horn and steer it the way we would like it to go. Some of these tips have worked for me in 2018 and I'm simply carrying them over into this new year. Grab some headphones, tune in and hopefully there's something that you can take into 2019 and make it your year!
Hopefully you've had a chance to listen to Part 1 of this episode which I would consider the warm up. I hope you have your mugs and cups ready because we are about to spill a whole heap of tea on this episode! This time I got to sit with one of my favourite multi-hyphenates, Debra Chosen, as we reflected on previous relationships (situationships included) and what we have learnt from them in order to take ownership and move forward. We explore misconceptions we previously had about relationships such as 'struggle love' or even being perfect in order to be loved. We also talk about what a healthy relationship looks like to us, the lessons we have had to learn the hard way and what we will no longer tolerate. As I said, grab your mugs and cups because this tea is juicy! So juicy in fact that it has to be split into two episodes! Press play and join us for part one.
Self Love & Self Care are the things we hear so much about but still they seem so mystical & complicated to us! This week I help to simplify it and break down the difference between the two. I also explore how they work to compliment each other and what some necessary steps are prior to getting to a healthy place on the journey of self love. I also share some of my experiences from the period where I didn't understand self love, how that was detrimental to me and the steps I have taken to change that. Grab a cup of something hot and tune in!
Hopefully you’re as excited as I am because this week I sat down with food entrepreneur Alexis Adjei. As usual, we dig beneath the surface and explore all things to do with failing and bouncing back. Alexis takes us behind the scenes on her journey with Gym Bites, how it went from an idea to a product stocked in Selfridges, where the company is now and what she’s learned from it all. Also find out the one job we both had in common and were ashamed of. Finally, we have some Q&A’s we answered on moving past being disappointed in yourself and tips on how to balance full time work, a business and a social life - phew! Tuck in and join the conversation over on instagram @marbieskitchen!
