Can democratic leaders find a way to meet the challenges of an era of widening conflict, geopolitical competition and political division? Putin thought that Ukraine would quickly fold under a massively superior Russian onslaught. Instead, the War has seen Ukraine reinventing itself as a world expert in drone warfare, exploiting cheap replaceable tech and digital networks to strike deep and painfully into Russia. Ukraine now leads the world in the air defence expertise required in today's conflict zones – and nations across Europe and the Middle East now consult Ukraine on the fast-evolving drone tech they need in today's unstable world. Can Kyiv use drones to gain a significant advantage in the war? And what will it mean for future conflicts, the ethics of war, and international security? Based on terrifying true events that creator Holly Doubet experienced, THIS IS NOT A DRILL takes audiences inside the surreal chaos of a morning in 2018, when an emergency alert warned Hawaii residents and visitors of an incoming missile attack. As fear grips the island, strangers and loved ones alike are forced to confront their mortality and their humanity. Set to a soaring and heartfelt score, this powerful new musical tells the story of connection, compassion, and what truly matters when time stands still.

Though Saddam Hussein tried to develop them and North Korea is accused of stockpiling them, biological weapons have been considered taboo for decades. Theoretically they're banned. But intelligence agencies and military leaders are increasingly warning of wider clandestine programmes to develop deadly mass toxins, and A.I. is lowering the barriers to entry dramatically. As governments scramble to keep up and frontier tech runs out of control, are we about to enter a new age of bioweapons and bioterrorism? Gavin Esler talks to Dr Cassidy Nelson, director of biosecurity policy at the Centre for Long-Term Resilience, about this rising threat and what we can do about it. Advertisers! The final episode of a four-part series from This Is Not A Drill… This time: International leaders cling to the idea that Trump's violent overthrow of the world order and embrace of raw power will prove temporary. But what if it isn't? What if we've entered a new age where might makes right? And after Iran and Venezuela, is there any coherent vision behind America's new foreign policy – or is it just driven by anger and greed? Dr Célia Belin of the European Council on Foreign Relations explains how Trump has set out to remake the world in his own cynical image. And Richard Haass, former President of the Council on Foreign Relations and advisor to President George HW Bush, describes how Trump's aggressive, values-free foreign policy means that if countries like Britain don't band together, they must choose between submitting to America or cutting a deal with their enemies. • We hope you enjoyed this miniseries. America's war on Iran has triggered deadly consequences across the Middle East, with attacks on oil supplies causing a global economic shock. Now, as authorities investigate terror-related violence and sabotage in the US and Europe, are we headed for a new era of terror similar to what followed America's wars in Iraq and Afghanistan? And in a world critically dependent on digital infrastructure, how safe are we from the threat of online sabotage? Gavin Esler finds out from Graig Klein, Assistant Professor of terrorism and political violence at the University of Leiden, and Dr Nikita Shah, senior fellow on the Intelligence, National Security and Technology programme at the Centre for Strategic and International Studies. • Advertisers! WARNING. THIS IS NOT A DRILL. We may have hit the lowest point in Boy Meets World history. But you know what that means - it’s gonna be a hilarious recap. Eric and Jack become Chantal and Lala, but the gang spends most of the podcast trying to figure out how this logic could work. Will reveals he tried to save the plot back on tape night, but apparently Eric will do ANYTHING to avoid ONE bully (and the police will do nothing to stop him). Will tries to prepare everyone for more chaotic writing as the series speeds toward the finale, but just like 30 years ago, everyone is just doing the best they can with what they’re given. So get ready to erase all the goodwill from “Chick Like Me,” right here on Pod Meets World!See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Faced with Iranian retaliation and a conflict spilling out across the Middle East, what is in his control and what isn't? And as Iran's regime continues to attack US allies in the region, closing the Straits of Hormuz with global economic repercussions, is the US administration stumbling into another protracted war in the Middle East? Trump's America first agenda and the new US national security strategy risk European unity, security and the rise of far right politics; Trump's trade wars have served to increase the pressure on states looking to balance relations with the US, China and also a rising India, and Israel's assaults in Iran, Gaza and Lebanon have changed the balance of power in the Middle East. In the final episode of the year, Gavin Esler talks to Mark Leonard, co-founder and director of the European Council on Foreign Relations, to examine how the geopolitical balance has shifted in 2025. • Support us on Patreon to keep This Is Not A Drill producing thought-provoking podcasts like this.
