Many Forest supporters were not optimistic prior to kick off, but a see-saw match ended with a point apiece. Dan Ndoye gave Forest the lead in the first half, with Alexander Isak equalising in the second half. It was hardly a classic to start the season, in Oliver Glasner's first game in charge of the Reds. As predicted, Forest played a 3-4-2-1 formation, and although they lacked sharpness in their play, Igor Jesus forced a fine save from James Trafford before Jair Cunha hit the post. In return, Harry Wilson had the ball in the net but was ruled offside. In the second half, Jesus and sub Chris Wood probably should have done better, but failed to hit the target, while Matz Sels also made a superb athletic stop from Tarik Muharemović's header. The breakthrough came late on when Anton Stach's free kick went in at the near post, and it seemed that Sels and his defence were caught unawares. Rich and Baz discuss the match, taking in tactical switches, formation stalemates and the contributions of McAtee, Jesus, Aina and others. It was the last match of the season, and while the match mostly petered out, it was a day notable for the renaming of the Bridgford End to the John Robertson Stand, Morgan Gibbs-White proving a point to Tommy Tuchel, and what looked like an emotional goodbye from Elliot Anderson. The match itself was settled by Morgan scoring in the first half, before Marcus Tavernier equalised after Jair Cunha's mistake, and several good saves from Matz Sels kept the Reds in the game. Vítor's Reds went to Old Trafford, and while the home team had more chances, Forest were ultimately robbed by a pivotal decision by Michael Salisbury, who was the only man in football who thought that Matheus Cunha's goal should stand, after Bryan Mbeumo's obvious handball. Even VAR recommended that the goal should be chalked off after a 3-4 min review, but after staring at it for another 90 seconds, the ref stuck to his guns. It felt like a match that neither team particularly wanted to play, as a patched-up Reds side took to the field against a beleaguered Newcastle team. Having said that, there were moments of interest, with Nick Pope denying Igor Jesus and Will Osula hitting the bar before Bruno Guimarães fired wide, then forced Matz Sels into an uncomfortable save before Morato completed the job. In the end, the two goalscorers felt inevitable. Harvey Barnes always scores against us, and after a simple through ball he outpaced Morato before a good finish on 74 mins. Another superb afternoon, as Vítor Pereira's much-changed Reds team dismantled Chelsea, with Taiwo Awoniyi opening the scoring after two minutes, and adding another in the second half. Igor Jesus scored a first-half penalty after Malo Gusto pulled Taiwo's shirt, and although Chelsea had a penalty of their own, Matz Sels made a great double-save to deny Cole Palmer from the spot, and his rebound. It was a special evening at the City Ground as the Reds fans revelled in their first European semi-final for 42 years (and we were cheated out of that one). Rich and Baz report before and after a match which was decided by Chris Wood's excellent penalty after VAR confirmed Lucas Digne's daft handball. Overall you would have to say that was a good point against an Aston Villa team who create a lot of problems, and will feel that they should have scored more than one goal, with Watkins and Rogers converting in the rugby sense, rather than netting. On a warm evening on the banks of the Douro, Forest got off to a torrid start, and could have conceded three before Porto took a 10th minute lead. Fortunately the hosts were in a generous mood and gifted an equaliser to the Reds with a comical 40 yard own goal. After the first 20 mins or so, Forest settled down, and achieved more stability especially in defence. While the visitors rarely threatened, there was an intriguing moment in the second half when Igor Jesus had a goal disallowed by VAR after colliding with Porto custodian Diogo Costa. Forest came out of the blocks on a night where the second string finally came of age, and the first half had a familiar feel to it until Nico Domínguez looped a header into the top corner to bring Forest level on aggregate. Ryan Yates scored a belter early in the second half, before the hosts equalised. The skipper almost capped off an outstanding performance by scoring the winner in the very last minute of extra time, but was denied by the offside flag. Penalties it was, and in an extraordinary turn of events, the Danes MISSED all three of their spot kicks, while MGW, Sangaré and Williams slotted home, to book a place against Porto in the next phase.
