On a map of Earth, coordinates zero-zero are in the eastern Atlantic Ocean, near the coast of Africa. All the other latitudes and longitudes are marked from that point. On a map of the sky, those coordinates are in the constellation Pisces. And that’s just where the Sun appears early today – at the moment of the spring equinox. Confusingly, though, that spot is known as the First Point of Aries. More than 2,000 years ago, the Sun appeared against the stars of Aries at the equinox. That spot was marked as the zero-point of the celestial coordinate system – the equivalent of latitude and longitude. But Earth wobbles on its axis. As it wobbles, the Sun changes position relative to the background of stars. That causes the First Point of Aries to shift as well. And as the point moves, the rest of the celestial coordinate system moves with it. The constellations don’t change, but their coordinates do. The First Point of Aries moves westward by one degree every 72 years. So today, it’s in Pisces, where it’s been for the past two millennia. Around the year 2600, it’ll shift into Aquarius, the next constellation over. So spring will arrive in the northern hemisphere when the Sun is in Aquarius. The Sun will return to its current equinox location when Earth completes one full wobble on its axis – in 26,000 years. Tomorrow: collisions heard across the universe. Script by Damond Benningfield

Total for Stash Dash: 254.7 meters Welcome to Litchfield Spinning Project Fiber: I purchased two 4oz braid of fiber from Into the Whirled in the Welcome to Litchfield colorway (1 braid Texel & 1 braid BFL Tussah Silk) along with 1 gray (The Traveler on Cheviot base) braid to ply them together. (Boho Book Nook crochet pattern- but I was using MUCH chunkier yarn and I didn't want to use the same textured stitches) I chained 21 sts and worked with 20 hdcs across each row- working in the third loop after the first row. I wasn't going to have enough of the Lion Brand Roving to make the whole thing, so I held the Wool of the Andes double for the part that would be covered. I worked a single crochet around the edges, and then sewed the front to back in just 1 spot on either side. I used a chain for the loop to tack it up on the wall. Total for Stash Dash: 128.1 meters Declan's Adrift Socks Yarn: Patons Kroy Stripes in the Adrift colorway Needles: US 1.5 (2.5 mm) Pattern: OMG Heel Socks by Megan Williams ($5 knitting pattern available on Ravelry ) Ravelry Project Page About the colorway- short stripes (about 3 rounds each) with 3 shades of blue- navy, denim and cornflower plus orange and brown. I should have around 19" Ravelry Project Page Originally finished July 10, 2021. I ripped out in 2024 because the back was far too short. I ripped out the sleeves (tossed) and unseamed the back and front. The instructions call for the back to be 12 inches but the front falls about 17 inches from collarbone to the bottom hem. I knit about 14 inches on the back and then worked a few sets of German Short Rows before the bottom hem instructions. I tried a few options for sleeves and then decided I"d just sew up the ends in a way to tuck/hem the ends under and I love that. In the end I made the body longer and the sleeves shorter Total for Stash Dash: 424.0 meters (463.7 yards), 212 grams First Point of Libra Cowl Pattern: First Point of Libra Cowl by Laura Aylor Needles: US 3 (3.25 mm) Yarn: Barnyard Knits, Fuse Fiber Studio, One Twisted Tree (shop formerly own Prairie Girl Danie) + other leftover sock yarn Ravelry Project Page Yarn purchased at Vogue Knitting Live January 2020 with Lauren. Planned to make a 2 color shawl. Cast on My Cryptonite by Melanie Berg and never got more than a couple inches in. Here's the Ravelry Project Page for the shawl that's now frogged. I started in October 2022. My November 2022 notes say- I'm losing mojo on this and I don't think it has to do w/ the pattern or my yarn. I like it... but its not getting finished before my trip to the UK so I will need to find other wooly accessories to bring with me. I picked up again July 2024 and it flew off the needles! Modifications: In Section 4, I skipped adding color 4 & 5 (1-3 only). Skipped Section 5. Finished size: 21 inches around. 15 inches tall. Centers in colorways- Fern, Coney Island, Seaglass, Slate. Borders- Wheat & Oatmeal Hook: 10mm (N/P) Notes: started in April 2022. I never talked about it on the podcast. Inspired by an instagram post from Lion Brand. This WIP has been taking up a ton of space in my craft room ever since. When the pump in my dehumidifer went and we had to move some things to get at it, I decided I had to get this WIP done. 2 rounds of color- 1 round of wheat or oatmeal 18 were done. 30 finished now Berry Bliss Socks Yarn: Hypnotic Yarn Plush Sock (75% SW Merino/25% Nylon) in the Berry Bliss Colorway (May 2024 Yarnable Box) & Legacy Fiber Artz Glitzy Toes (pink mini from 2023 Advent Calendar) Needles: US 1.5 (2.5 mm) Ravelry Project Page About the yarn- lemon yellow, sherbet orange and pink. I worked the first heel in a pink sparkle yarn from Legacy Fiber Artz because I have some spiral striping going on and didn't want to disrupt it. Progress: I've finished the heel on the first sock. Rafa's Hat Yarn: Malabrigo Rios in the Cielo y Tierra colorway Needles: US 5 (3.75 mm) Pattern: Rafa's Hat by Joji Locatelli (free knitting pattern available on Ravelry) Ravelry Project Page: About the yarn: blues/tans that is almost striping at my gauge. The hat is a 1x1 rib that has a cool purl ridge detail. Progress: I've worked two repeats of the pattern Cold Goat Farm Spinning Fiber: Cold Goat Farm Batt- I believe its Merino/Mohair but there are no details on the business card in my bag. I think I purchased it at Rhinebeck 2023. Twist direction: singles = Z plied = S This means when I'm spinning, my wheel is spinning clockwise and when plying my wheel is moving counter-clockwise. Crafty Adventures I found a small hole in my Mabel Style cross body sling bag and decided to use embroidery floss for a better hold and to add a bit of visible mending color. I received great customer service when I reached out to them! I'm in the midst of a massive studio clean out. It started w/ issues with my dehumidifier and it's really spiraled from there. I'm excited to see how it all comes back together. Knitting in Passing Aila FaceTimed me from a friend's house after buying a crochet dinosaur kit at the dollar store. The next day after pool day and dinner we practiced chain and single crochet. In My Travels Dan and I spent a long weekend in Portland, Maine to celebrate our 20th Anniversary. I was able to go up a night early to attend the knit night at Rising Tide Brewery. I loved meeting Heather from Rising Tide and Jenn & her husband Chuck from Knit Wit. Friday morning, I visited Knit Wit Yarn Shop's new location and then walked around. Dan, Dana and Sheri arrived and we met at Duck Fat for lunch before showing them around to some of our favorite breweries. Saturday we visited local shops and more breweries before going to see comedian Kathleen Madigan. Sunday, I did some shopping while Dan watched soccer then we enjoyed some drinks together and ended up back at Rising Tide where there was a 6p Burlesque show so Dan got us tickets. Really fun end to an awesome weekend. KAL News Pigskin Party '24 will kick off in the fall (specific date TBD). We're looking for Sponsors for this season. Interested or know someone who is? Know of an event I should spread the word about? Let me know! Life in Focus Tune in for a health Update on BostonJensMom On a Happy Note Dan and I took vacation the first week of July. Monday after Portland we just chilled. Tuesday I took Mom for whole brain radiation, then to visit my grandmother (her mother) and out for lunch. Wednesday/Thursday we visited friends renting a house in Wellfleet (Cape Cod) and Thursday/Friday we visited friends in Falmouth. Friday morning we picked up Riley from Camp and brought her to our house before she and I headed to Hornstra to get ice cream for lunch (because that's what vacation is for!) and over to my parents to the pool for the day. Monday 7/8- I met up with my friend Megg to do a 5+ mile beach walk before she headed out to Ireland for the month. Wed 7/10 Mom and I stayed in Boston to save her the back & forth daily for treatment. We met her friend Jacky for lunch. I went back to work in the afternoon. After work, we cooled off in the hotel pool and then had dinner, played Uno and bar trivia at The Hill. We stunk but it was fun! Sunday July 14th pool day at my parents. Jenna, Dave, Gabriella and Zach came over. Within a few hours they were both jumping off the diving board! July 17-18th Mom and I stayed in Boston again after her Radiation treatment. We hit the pool and fared slightly better at trivia but it was hard to be out as long. Mom's energy was much lower, she was coughing more and couldn't speak above a whisper. July 21st we had a pool day at my parents. Jeff, Millie and Garret, Jenna, and the 2 kiddos, Kris, Will, Aila and Matt. We celebrated Will's 17th birthday. Mom's hair had started falling out and the blank spots at the back of her head looked like a butterfly! Mom told us to go find some Sharpies and color it in! It was a hard day for her and by extension us, but this added a bit of fun and whimsy to it! Millie even attached little plastic gems to parts of the butterfly. After the "temporary tattooing" we shaved off the rest of her hair to help w/ the shedding. July 23rd- Mom's last day of Whole Brain Radiation! Coming home to a beautiful bouquet of flowers from Dan. Getting 2 massages this month after missing my scheduled on in June for our Portland trip! I always feel like I need it but I've been going up on weights at the gym and my upper body was screaming! Ignatian Wisdom of the Examen Prayer – The Daily Prayer of Discernment: The Examen Prayer with Fr. Timothy Gallagher Fr. Timothy Gallagher and Kris McGregor discuss the Examen Prayer, a significant practice in Ignatian spirituality introduced by St. Ignatius of Loyola. It’s role in enhancing one’s spiritual life by fostering a clear-sighted faith and increasing awareness of God’s presence and actions in daily life. Fr. Gallagher explains that the Examen Prayer is not just introspection or examination but a relational dialogue between the person and God. The first step in the Examen is gratitude, where one reflects on the day to recognize and appreciate the gifts and love received from God. This step sets a positive foundation for the rest of the prayer, encouraging individuals to focus on God’s actions before considering their responses. Gallagher shares personal anecdotes to illustrate how recognizing these daily gifts can transform one’s perspective and deepen the relationship with God. Gratitude, he argues, is the most effective way to grow in love for God, as it opens the heart to the endless outpouring of God’s gifts. This practice, even when initially challenging, gradually reshapes one’s spiritual awareness and relationship with the divine. Discerning Hearts Reflection Questions * The Essence of the Examen Prayer How does the Examen Prayer foster a deeper relationship with God rather than being just an act of introspection or examination? * Importance of Gratitude Why does St. Ignatius prioritize gratitude as the first step in the Examen Prayer, and how can this practice transform our daily spiritual lives? * Recognition of God’s Gifts Reflect on a specific instance in your life where recognizing God's gifts changed your perspective. How can daily acknowledgment of these gifts impact your overall spiritual growth? * Overcoming Initial Challenges What challenges might you face when starting the Examen Prayer, especially in the step of gratitude, and how can persistence help in overcoming these challenges? * Daily Application and Benefits How can setting aside a few minutes each day to practice the Examen Prayer, specifically focusing on gratitude, lead to a richer and more fulfilling spiritual life? * Relationship Dynamics In what ways can recognizing and appreciating the gifts from God change your relationship with Him and others in your life? * Practical Implementation Considering Fr. Gallagher’s examples, how can you practically implement the Examen Prayer in your daily routine to enhance your spiritual awareness and relationship with God? As outlined from the Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius of Loyola (translated from the autograph by Fr. E. Mullan, S.J. 1909 in the public domain) METHOD FOR MAKING THE GENERAL EXAMEN It contains in it five Points. First Point. The first Point is to give thanks to God our Lord for the benefits received. Second Point. The second, to ask grace to know our sins and cast them out. Third Point. The third, to ask account of our soul from the hour that we rose up to the present Examen, hour by hour, or period by period: and first as to thoughts, and then as to words, and then as to acts, in the same order as was mentioned in the Particular Examen. Fourth Point. The fourth, to ask pardon of God our Lord for the faults. Fifth Point. The fifth, to purpose amendment with His grace. OUR FATHER. Father Timothy M. Gallagher, O.M.V., was ordained in 1979 as a member of the Oblates of the Virgin Mary, a religious community dedicated to retreats and spiritual formation according to the Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius. Fr. Gallagher is featured on the EWTN series “Living the Discerning Life: ... Spring arrives in the northern hemisphere tonight, at the moment of the March equinox, as the Sun crosses the celestial equator. Day and night are about equal across the entire planet — hence the name “equinox,” which means “equal nights.” The Sun is passing through Pisces, the fishes. In fact, it's appeared in Pisces at the equinox for a couple of thousand years. Before that, it was in Aries, the ram. The shift is the result of an effect known as precession of the equinoxes. Earth wobbles on its axis like a spinning gyroscope. As it wobbles, the Sun's location against the background of stars moves, too. When the modern constellations were first drawn, the Sun appeared in Aries at the March equinox. So even today, the point of the equinox is sometimes called the First Point of Aries. The Sun and equinox bring up a point about the constellations. There are actually two types of designations — one for astronomy, and the other for astrology. In astrology, the zodiac is divided into 12 roughly equal constellations. The Sun is “in” each constellation at set dates — they don't change with precession. In astronomy, each constellation has precisely defined borders. And the constellations are all different sizes. Pisces is fairly wide, so the Sun remains within its borders for a while. The Sun entered Pisces on March 11th, and won't slide over into Aries — the next constellation over — for another month. Script by Damond Benningfield

In this, the 48th episode of the world's most popular podcast, Anthony, Paul, Theo, and Mike shift their attention to one of the oldest camera makers in the world and one that had produced some of the most innovative, interesting, and high quality cameras ever made...except no one wanted to talk about them! Okay, that's not exactly accurate as three people did show up. Returning callers Raymond Nason, Mark Faulkner, and Brian Howard answered the call and came to chat with us about their favorite Konica cameras. Kicking off the discussion was Mike who gave a short history of Japan's oldest camera maker with early models such as the Cherry Hand Camera and the Rokuoh-Sha Pearlette. We quickly moved onto the sexy Pearl folding cameras and the early Konica 35mm rangefinders. Ray brought with the very rare Konica F, the company's first attempt at a 35mm SLR, and then we bounced around between the Koni-Omega Rapid models, the Auto-Reflex series, we spent some time chatting about the Konica Eye half-frame camera, and eventually some of the company's more memorable point and shoots. In addition to 96 minutes worth of Konica love, Theo, Mike, and Brian learned all about the American craze for elaborate senior photos, Mike explained the difference between automatic parallax and automatic field correction, Paul shares with us his least favorite 1990s premium camera, Mike complained (again) about the Konica AiBorg, his least favorite camera ever made, we explore a huge range of strange cameras designed by F.A. Porsche, and Ray gives an update on the 4th and final Yarovsky camera auction, which we discussed previously in Episode 44. As always, the topics we discuss on the Camerosity Podcast are influenced by you! We would love to hear from more listeners, especially those who are new to shooting film or collecting cameras. Please don't feel like you have to be an expert on a specific type of camera, or have the level of knowledge on par with other people on the show. We LOVE people who are new to shooting and are interested in having an episode dedicated to people new to the hobby, so please don't consider your knowledge level to be a prerequisite for joining! The guys and I rarely know where each episode is going to go until it happens, so if you'd like to join us on a future episode, be sure to look out for our show announcements on our Camerosity Podcast Facebook page, and right here on mikeeckman.com. We usually record every other Monday and announcements, along with the Zoom link are typically shared 2-3 days in advance. For our next episode, we've decided to go half...half-frame that is. If you ever thought that 24mm x 36mm images are too large, and found that 18mm x 24mm was the ideal size for your negatives, Episode 49 is the one for you! Join us as we will no doubt cover many wonderful half-frame shooters like the Olympus Pen F, Canon Dial 35, the Yashica Samurai, and the Konica Auto-Reflex....wait, we talked about that already! Be sure to look out for our next show announcement. Episode 49 will be recorded on Monday, May 15th. We hope to see you there! For those of us in the Northern Hemisphere, this was marked by the arrival of the Vernal Equinox (otherwise known as the “First Point of Aries“). Traditionally, we celebrate the first day of spring on March 21, but astronomers and calendar manufacturers alike now say that the spring season starts on March 20th, in all time zones in North America. In 2020, spring fell on March 19th, the earliest first day of spring in 124 years! https://www.dbcfsn.org/dtownfarm2022 Food 4 the Body and Spirit

Her October scans showed new tumors in the pleura (lining) of her lungs which aren't responding to her Tagrisso gene therapy medicine. They'll be doing a biopsy to see if they can tell why it is resistant and perhaps there is another drug they can try. Since that will take about a month before we have results, she'll be starting chemotherapy in the meantime. 1st infusion on November 4th. Send out all those good wishes. Sharon of Knit Style Yarns just released her first pattern- Celtic Christmas Cowl ($5 knitting pattern available on Ravelry) & kindly gifted me a copy. Thank you Sharon & congrats! I went to see Sweeney Todd at Company Theater with Mom, Terri & Emelyn. My cousin Colleen got married last weekend! She looked beautiful. The wedding was perfect. They had cider donuts instead of wedding cake! Mom & my 94 year old Aunt Florence who also has cancer, set Colleen's wedding as their goal and they were both there with big smiles and so much energy. Dancing and laughing. We are all so grateful for that. Colin and Nora whooping it up on the dance floor. Colleen & her Dad dancing in the trolley all the way back to the hotel with Dan and my cousin Joanie's husband using their phone flashlights to create a strobe effect! Oisin and Dan working to cut and stack wood. Made Oisin a batch of applesauce even though I haven't had time to teach him how to make it yet. My cousins sent me a beautiful bouquet of flowers. Total surprise. 20 years at my day job. Dinner celebration postponed but Dan and I look forward to going to that in early 2023. I got to pick out a gift from an online catalog. I picked an Air Fryer so hit me with your best vegetarian air fryer recipes! Our contractor starting putting new railings on our deck. We attended my cousins (Pat & Kevin's) joint Surprise Costume Birthday Party. Mom, Dad, Dan and I dressed up in a Little Mermaid Theme! We saw a local production of Guys & Dolls. Megg is a Hot Box Dancer. Oisin was a Gambler. They were both great! Quote of the Week There is the touch of November in the air, chill enough to have a slight tang, like properly aged cider. Not air that caresses, nor yet air that nips. Air that makes one breathe deeply and think of spring water and walk briskly. -Hal Borland Contact Information: Check out the Down Cellar Studio Patreon! This episode is with Valerie Pang, the Innovation Associate for the Good Food Institute Asian Pacific, shorten to GFI APAC, and is generally the first point of contact for anyone who wants to know about the Asian Pacific Region in alternative proteins. If you've been a long-time fan of this podcast and listen to the alternative protein stuff, you hear their name often as the go-to source for getting into this field. During the short time, GFI has existed, they have been a center point of supporting the food industry in adapting to the alternative protein space. Whether big companies are anxious to dip their toes, to ex-business consultants looking for a technical cofounder, GFI has always been at the forefront in developing this ecosystem. And GFI has grown tremendously. What was once a budding organization in the United States has gone global and of course, they have an APAC section, where I was introduced to Valerie Pang, a bright, engaging, and knowledgeable employee who shared with me some of the vegan food Singapore has to offer. It's pretty good. Everyone I know at the Good Food Institute is a rockstar who put their whole self to work. I was fortunate to collaborate on a series like, 4 years ago with some amazing young people. Some who are still at GFI today. I'd say this interview is split into two parts. Part one is Valerie's work experience, in which she actually spent a few years in America working for tech startup categories such as AI and block chain, and switched to food. She then worked at Ryan Bettencourt's company, Wild Earth. In here, we compare and contrast working in tech versus food, and also the differences between America's and Singapore's work culture I did this interview right before visiting like 7 other countries and I ask about work culture to each person I visit. I will say, I feel a bit ignorant in this interview and I think I glamourize American work culture a bit too much here. I think my findings after all of it is that every company truly is a bit different in their management style and the expectation of work but I digress. The second part of this interview introduces a ton of interesting events and resources that help startups flourish in Singapore. Valerie and GFI APAC do a fantastic job sharing and compiling the useful accelerators, agencies, and other niceties to help support startups and businesses in Singapore. Robert Zimmermann is the CRO at Qualified. He talks about the golden opportunity to meet buyers and acquire them at the first opportunity when they visit your website. Robert is also joined today by Howard Brown, Founder and CEO at Revenue.io. Robert and Howard discuss the best use cases of AI and human sellers in engaging customers on your website, as well as the increasing use of video to provide a human connection immediately. They also comment on the changing nature of enablement that must train sellers to meet buyers who are now more informed than ever before. HIGHLIGHTS Digital body language: Connect with buyers at the moment they are on your website Interact with buyers: Moving from chat to video on demand on your website Focus on pipeline during a recession AI cannot replicate the nuances of human interaction in sales Enablement must train sellers how to meet buyers in context QUOTES Engage buyers at the first point of contact - Robert: "Statistically, about 80% of buyers will probably buy from the first company or person that they engage with. So why would you open yourself up to a situation where you're not responding to these people are target accounts of yours, a strategic account, so that you're trying to pursue the moment that they're there." AI and human sellers have their optimal uses in sales - Robert: "That type of A.I. in chat has a very useful function in a highly process-oriented environment like a support environment. But sales is nuanced. Sales is about connection. You talk about this a lot, Andy. Sales is about that curiosity, about what's important to your company but what's important to you? You can't get that through A.I. You have to get that through interaction." Today's guest Andy Lyon is the Malibu realtor and First Point surfer of fifty years who achieved a considerable notoriety recently when he threw a rock into another man's surfboard following an entanglement, the video of the event going viral. He lost his job, had his address published and a beat down was suggested his four year old kid Glider. Lyon represents a vanishing era where lineups were harshly policed with a clearly defined pecking order, a limpid simplicity greased with the underlying threat of violence. The highlight, for me, of this interview is our guest's reply to the posit that Malibu is a sissy wave for old men and girls, not sissy old men who beat up on girls.
In addition to everyday responsibilities, managers have duties that may not happen as often but are just as important – including being the first point of contact and support for employees taking a leave of absence. This episode of Lincoln Absence Advisor brings together Lincoln absence and legal professionals to discuss what managers need to know as they help guide employees before, during, and after an absence. We'll explore how managers can recognize the need for leave, offer support while respecting privacy, and help returning employees ease back in their role after their leave is done.© 2022 Lincoln National Corporation. Matt and David break down Charlotte FC's 0-0 draw against Colorado Rapids, a game Charlotte easily could have won with the way it played in the second half. What should we take away from that result as we head into a third-straight away match this weekend? Also, David got a new office chair. It's gas-powered. He wanted to make sure we included that in the episode description.
Sometimes it's hard to believe - but you come first. The purpose of the entire creation is on the premise of the Torah and Yisroel. The reason the entire world and all the galaxies were created - Shamayim va'aretz - was for you in this moment. There are not many 21-year-olds with four years of recruitment marketing experience but we speak to one in this show. As recruitment marketing teams across the land start to look to build out their teams and capabilities we explore the apprenticeship route from somebody who has been on the journey. From managing expectations to being emotionally intelligent in management it is clear that apprenticeships are not the cheap option for businesses and in some ways, it's more about the apprentice rather than what they actually do. You'll reap the rewards later. We also jump into the subject of 'taught' marketing and learning on the job with all of the pros and cons that come along with it. Paiger, you're still here championing us and for that we thank you.
