On Clash of the Correspondents, James is joined by Manchester United fan Alex Trembath and Everton fan Sean Norton to discuss the latest at their clubs ahead of the GW12 meeting at Old Trafford. United's form and results have been improving, they are now five unbeaten and talk about Ruben Amorim's future has dissipated. Everton meanwhile performed well against Fulham at the weekend but Sean has concerns about the evolution of their playing style and their lack of a goalscorer. Discussion includes all the key FPL assets from both clubs, and the possible impact of AFCON with both teams respective biggest attacking threats, Bryan Mbeumo and Iliman Ndiaye set to depart in December. Does that mean Fantasy managers should avoid them? Trailing to a first-half goal from Bryan Mbeumo and struggling to break down the visitors, momentum totally shifted in the final few minutes after Mathys Tel came off the bench to level it up before Richarlison's glancing touch put us 2-1 ahead in the 91st minute and sent Tottenham Hotspur Stadium into delirium! A good week to have a bad week? Probably. But for FPL managers who started any of Joe Rodon, Bryan Mbeumo or 23 point scoring Micky Van De Ven it was probably a good week. Suj and James even managed to sell one of the few other popular players who hit a double digit return, in Pedro Porro, who assisted one of Van De Ven's two in Tottenham's 3-0 win at Everton. But was the win as good as the scoreline suggests? All the games reviewed as the three promoted clubs all won, struggling West and Wolves were two of those on the wrong end of those results, while Chelsea were surprisingly beaten by high flying Sunderland at Stamford Bridge. Liverpool lost again, this time at Brentford, and Manchester City were beaten too at Aston Villa, whilst Arsenal extended their lead with victory over Crystal Palace. Eagles assets will be popular this week, as will again Arsenal players, and Mbeumo will also be popular having scored twice in Manchester United's victory against Brighton which means they've now won three in a row. Liverpool slumped to a fourth successive defeat for the first time in almost 11 years as their miserable run of form continued with a disappointing reverse against Manchester United. Harry Maguire scored the winner late on after Cody Gakpo had deservedly equalised a controversial opener from Bryan Mbeumo in only the second minute. The result means Liverpool have now lost three Premier League games and sit out side the top two for only the second time since Arne Slot was appointed boss at the start of last season. Liverpool fell to a fourth successive defeat for the first time in 11 years as Manchester United claimed a late win at Anfield on Sunday. The Reds fell behind in controversial circumstances early on after Bryan Mbeumo scored despite Alexis Mac Allister suffering a head injury in the build-up. Arne Slot's side fought back and saw Cody Gakpo hit the woodwork three times, while they also had a penalty appeal waved away for handball, before the Dutchman equalised late on by converting Federico Chiesa's low cross. But Harry Maguire then headed home Bruno Fernandes' cross to clinch a first win at Anfield since 2016 for United. And with Liverpool falling to a third late defeat in a row in the Premier League, they have now dropped down to fourth in the table. On this week's episode, Mike, Craig and Dan reflect on Keith Andrews and his side bouncing back from derby day defeat to sting Ruben Amorim's Manchester United at the Gtech. We needed a response after the poor showing at Craven Cottage, and just like the fallout from opening day defeat against Forest, Andrews rang the changes, switching to a back four and bringing Aaron Hickey into the side. Episode Notes Kelleher SAVES THE DAY for Brentford Against Manchester United. Brentford claimed one of their biggest results of the season with a 3-1 win over Manchester United, and it was an Irishman who provided the game's decisive moment. With the score at 2-1, Nathan Collins pulled down Bryan Mbeumo inside the box — a challenge that many felt warranted a red card. Bruno Fernandes stepped up, but his four-minute wait while VAR reviewed the incident appeared to rattle him. Caoimhín Kelleher, however, was ice-cool. The Corkman guessed right, palming away Fernandes's effort to swing momentum firmly in Brentford's favour. From there, United pressed for an equaliser but were punished late on as Brentford added a third. It was a statement victory for Keith Andrews, whose appointment was doubted in some quarters but who has now overseen wins over United, Chelsea, and Aston Villa. Kelleher's performance underlined his growing stature at club and international level. Once considered Liverpool's understudy, he is now Brentford's number one and Ireland's undisputed first-choice goalkeeper. Nathan Collins, meanwhile, will reflect on another error, following a run of unsteady form for both club and country. While his ceiling remains high, consistency is becoming a concern. Elsewhere, Evan Ferguson continues to adapt to life at Roma. Though yet to score in Serie A, the teenager's all-round play has impressed. His manager's belief suggests it is only a matter of time before the goals come. In Scotland, Liam Scales is thriving at Celtic, forcing his way into the starting XI and making a strong case to partner Collins for Ireland. There was mixed news for Ireland's goalkeepers. Gavin Bazunu was dropped by Southampton, raising fresh doubts about his club future, while Jason Knight's remarkable run of consecutive 90-minute Championship appearances ended at 65 games. For Andrews and Brentford, though, the headlines belong to Kelleher. His penalty save didn't just deny United a way back into the game — it cemented his reputation as one of the Premier League's most reliable stoppers and a cornerstone for both club and country. On the first of four Clash of the Correspondents during the International break James is joined by Manchester City fan Jonny Pringle and Manchester United fan Alex Trembath to preview the Manchester Derby in GW4 and discuss concerns at both clubs... Following last week's embarrassing Carabao Cup elimination at the hands of four tier Grimsby Town, United manager Ruben Amorim has come under increased scrutiny again. Does Alex still have belief that he can turn it around? And is Pep Guardiola escaping similar scrutiny? City are below United in the table following defeats at Tottenham and Brighton and the manner of those defeats has caused alarm. Plus, there's discussion on the key FPL assets including Rayan Ait-Nouri, Erling Haaland, Bruno Fernandes and Bryan Mbeumo, whether the post GW1 hype around Tijani Reijnders was misguided, if Patrick Dorgu will earn his spot back in the United team and both teams may start The Derby at The Etihad with a new goalkeeprer. #901 | Ed and Daniel talk about United's defeat to Arsenal at Old Trafford. It was largely settled by a single goalkeeping error. The performance was markedly better: heavy possession, more than twice Arsenal's shots and real influence from new signings Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo, who were standouts. They break down what worked, what didn't and why the result flatters the visitors. The discussion turns to recruitment: can United address the ‘keeper situation before the 1 September deadline, and is midfield business still on the cards? It's a Planet FPL debut for new Manchester United Correspondent Alex Trembath as we reach the lafway mark of Correspondent Week and despite their worst seasons in decades there is plenty to be optimistic about for The Red Devils this season. There's discussion on new signings Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo and their FPL prospects, but is it worth a million more to pay for the security of having Bruno Fernandes? Amad Diallo shouldn't be discounted too, but what happens with United may depend much on their search for a new striker. Plus, best defensive options assessed, there's a detailed assessment of the fixtures and why even a United player for captaincy in a couple of the early fixtures shouldn't neccessarily be overlooked.
