The Grove - An Arsenal Podcast

The Grove Podcast is celebrating both it's 100th episode and beating Newcastle to qualify for the Champions League next season and pretty much sure up 2nd spot. Tabs is joined by Jamie on this special episode to talk through a game which was unnecessarily important and where all that mattered was the result. All in all quite a tense game, low in quality, but with moments from Raya and Rice that made the difference and edged it for Arsenal. We also have fun chatting about Calafiori, twatting the ball from long distance, Arteta's post math speech and hope for the future. We finish the pod laughing at Tottenham again and previewing a match that really and properly does not matter (barring some unprecedented Premier League GD turnaround), when we take on Southampton on the final day of the season. We would like to say thanks to all of you that have listened over the last year and half since we started with our first pod being the 5-0 win against Crystal Palace, post Dubai. We've loved doing it I hope you've enjoyed listening to it too. We really appreciate you listenership and the interactions we've had with you online and in person. It's also given us the chance to meet and get to know people from other Arsenal podcasts and in the Arsenal online community which has been really cool. Finally we also wanted to say a big thanks to all those from The Grove that have contributed in the past be it on the pod or with getting the pod out into the world and into your ears…..the likes of Whale, Tom, Chi, Sorn, Senzi, (apologies if I have forgotten anyone) then there's the current crew of Kuziva, Jamie, Ian and then there's Dawit (who does great work behind the scenes helping me with the socials)…and of course Mos who's brainchild this all was back at the beginning and without whom we wouldn't be here. SO thank you all for listening and here's to the next 100 episodes.COME ON YOU GUNNERS!@ The Grove Everyone is Welcome!Find us on Bluesky, Threads and YouTube: @thegroveafcEmail us here: thegrovepodcast@outlook.com***Please take the time to rate us on your podcast app. It means a great deal to us and will make it easier for other potential listeners to find us. The latest instalment of the Merseyside derby didn't fail to entertain as James Tarkowski escaped a red card before Diogo Jota settled proceedings with the only goal of the game to move the Reds closer to the Premier League title. Arsenal won on Tuesday night to momentarily pressure Arne Slot's side, but it wasn't enough to cause the Slot machine to malfunction. Elsewhere, a Sandro Tonali unintentional screamer earned Newcastle a win over Brentford, leaving the Geordies in charge of the race for the top four, having played a game less than 4th placed Man City. And finally, Southampton moved within a point of finally matching Derby County's humiliating 11-point haul with a draw at home to Crystal Palace. Summer pod has come early as the sun is shining and the Premier League is basically over once again.Any hopes of Saka's comeback goal against Fulham sparking some kind of title race chances for Arsenal were dashed just 24 hours later as Liverpool beat Everton in another Merseyside derby to extend their lead at the top.The heads of Carabao marketing must have looked on in glee as 100's of thousands lined the streets in Newcastle's first trophy parade in 70 odd years, but where oh where could the Geordies go to keep the party rolling?Things are going well for Aston Villa as their new superstars score for fun while they are going deep in the Champions League. But..is it too good to be true?Nottingham Forest beat Man United 1-0 thanks to a great goal from another player in a long line of players currently thriving away from their former club - Anthony Elanga. Is it classist to stop Geordies using the term of endearment 'pet'? After the University of Newcastle sent out guidance to researchers advising they avoid using the word 'pet' as it might feel patronising or sexist to women, people took to social media to claim this was a classist move. It sparked a wider discussion about accents and class. Others claimed accents shouldn't be used as a marker of identity and that speaking with Received Pronunciation could be an equalising tool that could prevent prejudice. So what are the origins of RP and what does the data show about our perceptions of accents?GUESTS: Jasmine Andersson, writer and journalist Jonathan Meades, writer and critic Lynda Mugglestone, Professor of the history of English at the University of Oxford Dr Christian Ilbury, lecturer in Socio-linguistics at the University of Edinburgh

Hello Rank Squad! It's time for another Champions League Takeaway - a midweek bonus meal on all the week's UCL action. The biggest competition in European football returned to it's chaotic best, and we're amongst it to take a look at the action from both Tuesday and Wednesday nights. We start with Tuesday's action, with three big takeaways on Manchester United's lack of streetwise nous, Arteta's decision to play an injured Bukayo Saka, and perhaps the best game of the season between Union Berlin and SC Braga, before rounding up the rest of the action. Then in Part Two, we take a look at Wednesday - talking Newcastle's demolition job on PSG at St. James' Park, Atleti continuing to get the job done whatever the weather, and Dortmund & Milan playing out one of the maddest 0-0 draws you will ever see, and then run through everything else that happened too. It's Ranks! If you want to take advantage of our free trial going on on Patreon right now, why not join us at patreon.com/ranksfc?

Sloss and Humphries On The Road

Muggins and Cream return from a turbulent expedition to Benidorm with an army of Geordies. Not so fresh from the Pincer Stag do the boys unpack how Kai's foolproof plans backfired so catastrophically. This episode was originally scheduled as a Patreon Bonus episode but the episode we recorded afterwards for public consumption wouldn't make a great deal sense without the context of this one as it kinda plays out as a Part 2. That episode is now available on Patreon. "Chia Bae" feat. Ryan Cullen.
