Nick Goblirsch knows about video marketing. He spent 20 years in the corporate environment, and then he became an entrepreneur like many of us who started our legal nurse consulting businesses who were able to leave that clinical setting and take that leap to become self-employed. I met Nick through the Mid-Atlantic Podcast Conference where I have been a speaker and Nick's been a speaker for at least the last three years He began his own podcast in 2015 to journal his life stories as he tackles his 40s Click here to get the transcript for this podcast! Listen in as Pat Iyer and Nick Goblirsch chat about these video marketing points. What is brand-specific content? Stand out and be unique, how videos might be able to help with that objective What are the different kinds of videos that Nick would recommend a legal nurse consultant have How can I make my video engaging or compelling so that the person doesn't click off from the first three seconds? Should you go to a studio, do you need a high definition video recorder? https://youtu.be/0z3yUjDd1KE Related Product: A unique opportunity to speak with me Today’s competitive environment demands that LNCs who want to succeed as an independent consultant have a business coach. Making mistakes is expensive. Consider the costs of: • charging fees that the market will not bear, • missing deadlines, • turning in inferior work product, • not being responsive to an attorney’s request, • not knowing how to attract the attention of attorneys, or • not using sound business practices to manage cash flow. A business coach understands your goals, dreams and strengths. A coach is part advisor, part cheerleader, and part manager. A coach helps you set goals and achieve them. A coach provides advice, support, focus and guidance. These are some of the benefits of working with a coach: • Identify prospects and referral sources. • Get an objective perspective on your marketing methods and materials. • Set measurable goals and learn specific strategies to achieve them. • Make a commitment to specific activities and be held accountable to achieve them. • Move your marketing activities to a higher level by embracing new tools and techniques, such as video marketing. • Practice your marketing activities in a safe environment before implementing them. • An experienced coach works in your niche and understands how to market to attorneys. • Avoid making expensive mistakes in marketing and business management. A coach is like a business partner, without the entanglements, who gives you insight, direction, and a new perspective. I coach LNCs through LNCAcademy.com. Want to talk to me for free? The Blind Blogger – Maxwell Ivey pt 1 (https://kcrpodcast.com/?attachment_id=98878) Born into a family of carnival owners in Texas, USA, Maxwell Ivey lost his sight at age 12. Having a natural gusto for life, Max graduated college and became heavily involved in the Eagle Scouts. He also worked in the family business alongside brothers until his father succumbed to lung cancer. Faced with his own mortality, Max made some life-altering changes. He underwent gastric surgery and lost over 250 pounds. He started his own business, buying and selling amusement rides, and learned how to blog using software for visually-impaired people. Overcoming many obstacles, Max made a name for himself online and now shares his experiences on The Blind Blogger. Max’s favorite things entail teaching and helping others to achieve their goals. So in addition to his blogging page, he has his own podcast, “What’s Your Excuse” and he also has a personal coaching and branding business! And he is a published author with his book, “Leading You Out of Darkness Into the Light: A Blind Man’s Inspirational Guide to Success.”AMEN! All of this information is available at Maxwell’s website, www.theblindblogger.net (http://www.theblindblogger.net/) Help me welcome to the program, Maxwell Ivey!  Maxwell, it is so good to talk to you, my friend!  We were at the same event, the Mid-Atlantic Podcast Conference with Joe Pardo about six weeks ago!  I have to say, your talk was riveting for sure. That’s why I wanted to get you on the podcast, to share your story with our audience. How have things been going since that conference? Ok, the first question I always ask is this. Other than that brief intro I read, tell us in your own words, “Who is Maxwell Ivey?” You started off in the carnival business. Everyone sees the lights, the sounds, the clowns and everyone having a good time. But what is it like behind the scenes? It’s a hard life, correct? You lost your eyesight at age 12, I believe. Can you tell us what happened? How did you handle that experience, initially? We will get into what you are doing now in just a bit. Did your Faith help you through those times? And you are still involved in the carnival business, kind of “behind the scenes” in selling equipment, correct? What is involved with that? Ok, let’s shift gears now.  You’ve faced health issues over the years. I read that you lost over 250 pounds!  How did you do that? Let’s talk about your book, “Leading You Out of Darkness Into the Light: A Blind Man’s Inspirational Guide to Success.”  That was published in 2014. Tell us about your book… I briefly mentioned your consulting business. Let’s talk about that for a few minutes. You help others to build their brands. What is involved in that? Folks, to quote Maxwell Ivey’s podcast name, “What’s Your Excuse?”  You’ve heard some of the things that Maxwell has gone through. But notice the key phrase here, “…has GONE through.” He is not “there.” He has “gone through.” He has moved on to greater things. I encourage you to get in touch with Maxwell Ivey, get a copy of his books, and allow him to help you to answer the question, “What’s Your Excuse?” CONTACT INFORMATION: Email:  justask@theblindblogger.net (mailto:justask@theblindblogger.net) Website:  www.theblindblogger.net (http://www.theblindblogger.net/) Podcast:  www.youtube.com/maxwellivey (http://www.youtube.com/maxwellivey) BOOKS BY MAXWELL IVEY: “The Blind Bloggers NYC Adventures” book on Amazon Kindle (https://amzn.to/34Sxd6b) “Leading You Out of the Darkness Into the Light: A Blind Man’s Inspirational Guide to Success” book on Amazon Kindle (https://amzn.to/2CxtjUg) “It’s Not the Cookie, It’s the Bag: An Easy to Follow Guide for Weight Loss Success” book on Amazon Kindle (https://amzn.to/33C2PwG) The post Kingdom Cross Roads Podcast (https://kcrpodcast.com) .

You can watch the video above that was originally part of her Facebook group Speak and Infuence. I've been podcasting for 5 years now and running the Mid-Atlantic Podcast Conference for almost as long. Crafting lots of products, courses, videos, books, coaching lots of podcasters and business owners from all over the world has been a ton of fun. As I point out early on in this interview it isn't always easy to find your target audience for what you have inside of you. Starting with a topic that you love and can talk about for days on end can sometimes be difficult. At the end of the day if you are looking for podcast profit it starts with a topic and putting in the reps to get good. From there you can start to build your audience and let them help guide you where you can best serve them with deals and promotions from potential sponsors, swag, products, digital products and more! I want you to keep in mind at all times though that the show is yours and you ultimately get to make the final decisions that make you happiest. There's so much that's gone on, I'd been able to deep dive topics and connect with people in the industry which is particularly exciting! To update on the PMX Competition from Podcast Movement went pretty well, then on to BlogHer for some networking and educational opportunities and then off to MAPCon or Mid-Atlantic Podcast Conference where I had the opportunity to present as a spotlight speaker and got to connect with new faces and reconnect with old friends, also while having the opportunity to have family come with me. So been pretty busy. If you're interested you can check out the Instagram Feed to see some coverage of the events. Who is Fadra? Fadra Nally started her blog, All Things Fadra, in 2009 as a way to showcase her writing and land a "real job." She soon discovered that life behind a keyboard beats a corner window office any day of the week. Since that time, she's built partner relationships with brands like Nintendo, National Geographic, Toyota, Disney, Fandango, and Netflix. Her work has been featured on The Stir, Working Mother, J&J Parents, and even inspired Chapter 10 of the well-known marketing book, Groundswell. In addition to her lifestyle blog, Fadra is also a Founding Contributor at ShesOnTheGo.com, a women’s travel website, and co-hosts a light-hearted entertainment podcast, Stinger, which focuses on TV and movies. Quotes from Fadra I love that I get to have flexibility for my family and I love that flexibility gives me the opportunity to experience things I never thought I would. To go on trips, to meet people, and just have experiences I would not otherwise be able to do. (12:23) I don't know if it's the right way, but I still believe there's something to be said for working hard, working honestly, and supporting your peers and that's what I continue to do. My numbers aren't as big as other people. I still haven't been offered a job on HGTV although I'm open to it. But I still believe in the path and the method by which I am achieving my own success and I stand by that. (15:48) And you look at some of these people who are highly successful and you know the millions of followers on Instagram, I mean it's almost like a modeling shoot. It's not what the platform started out as. You'll find a lot of those people crash and burn because they're tired of their life being posed and on display, and I'm not saying that's true for everybody, but even those people who reach those traditional levels of success find that they weren't finding what they were looking for. (20:18) Don't look at someone else's life based on what they're posting on Facebook or what someone's posting on Instagram because everybody has challenges, everybody is going through personal struggle, personal crisis and also celebrating successes that you may not be aware of so the biggest thing is just to focus on what makes you happy and what works for your family. (31:44)    What You’ll Learn How she realized her side hustle can become a full-time career The importance of resourcefulness in online business How she decided to launch a new podcast The pros and cons of owning a business Tips on how to manage work-life balance Websites: https://allthingsfadra.com/ https://stingeruniverse.com/ Social Media:  Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter Other Listening Options: Individual player or full player view on website: http://lorirochino.com/podcast-2/

MAPCON Founder, 18 Months To Franchise Business Podcaster, Joe Pardo Is Returning Home:  Catching up with Super Joe Pardo, founder of the MAPCON aka the Mid-Atlantic Podcast Conference. Joe announces that he is returning home to grow his families business. We also obviously discuss this years MAPCON event, public speaking, the author life, book launches, and so much more! What is MAPCON?Mid-Atlantic Podcast started (December 2014) as a Facebook group for podcasters who live in the Mid-Atlantic States (North Carolina, Virginia, Delaware, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, New York, Maryland, and Connecticut). The idea was to bring podcasters together for meet ups, Google Hangouts and eventually grow into conferences. After seeing the interest to have a podcast (exclusive) conference in the northeast, Joe Pardo jumped on the opportunity to make it happen. Mid-Atlantic Podcast Conference (MAPCON) is an extension of Joe Pardo’s passion to host amazing events with great people.. Joe Pardo's Present:Over three-hundred and fifty episodes of The Business Podcast, four books, and countless memories later I am living my dream of helping other business owners. These past four years have been filled with amazing interactions with visionaries of all backgrounds. On August 13, 2018, after over four years of being away from my family's business, I am returning to build a franchise out of the heavy duty repair shop. You can  follow (https://superjoepardo.com/thebusinesspodcast/)  my journey on the podcast and vlog as I navigate returning to the family business while building out a franchise model for the company. Part of the journey is founding the  Mid-Atlantic Podcast Conference (https://midatlanticpodcast.com/)  now heading into its fourth year.   Past Appearance(s): 073: DreamCon, MAPCON, Hopeworks and Super Joe Pardo (https://livethefuel.com/073-dreamcon-mapcon-hopeworks-joe-pardo/) On This Episode You Will Hear:[spp-timestamp time="00:30"] Introduction [spp-timestamp time="14:00"] Flights aren't that expensive to come into Philadelphia, from the Carolinas, or anywhere else for that matter. You can fly to LA from from Philly for 149 bucks each way. [spp-timestamp time="21:07"] Philadelphia MAPCON meetup, Podcast Websites meetup with Mark Asquith, AWeber and more. [spp-timestamp time="46:00"] The struggle to create content for a video blog without it coming across like a Reality TV show. I'm actually working on the business even if I'm not necessarily blogging the whole journey and all that stuff. I don't want to split my my mind up between being the producer or the problem solver. [spp-timestamp time="53:53"] Last year I set up everything up in the bar area on the table. Podcasters just kept diving in and by the end of the show, even Dave Jackson was sitting down. It was the longest show that I've ever done. I went back and listened to the show again, I was laughing my butt off. It's the most ridiculous show ever. [spp-timestamp time="01:21:00"] Final Words   Society starts with you is more than a motto, it is a way of life. Simply Designed Life | Business, Lifestyle Design, and Productivity Tips From Women Entrepreneurs and Gamechangers

This episode is a continuation of my conversation with Joe Pardo. Last time, Joe discussed childhood dreams and business building over at Episode 50. This week’s we continue the conversation with Joe's inspiration for the Mid-Atlantic Podcast Conference (otherwise known as MAPCon) where he gives the nuts and bolts of starting and running an event. But before we dive into the conversation, if you happen to be in the Philadelphia area, both Joe Pardo and I will be speaking over at Podcast Movement which will be held over at the Marriott in center city Philly July 23-26. I'll be speaking over at PMx, the Tedx style talk with a podcast focus that Monday, July 23rd. What is PMX exactly? PMx is an adaptation of TEDx talks with a competitive spin. PMx will be on Monday, July 23d from 9am – 3pm EST at the Marriott in Philadelphia, PA. A big Shout out to Cypress Resources who will be sponsoring the competition. Joe will lead a session during the event, so please come out for this awesome event if you're in the area as we'd love to connect!  Who is Super Joe Pardo? Super Joe Pardo is a New Jersey-based, sixth generation award-winning business owner who works with businesses and owners to help them grow by focusing on their team, offer and process. In 2014, Joe left his family’s $100 million business to start his own. Founding the award-winning show, The Business Podcast, his platform helps owners pursue the business and lifestyle of their dreams. Just recently, Super Joe released the much-anticipated Sales Won’t Save Your Business to further help business owners, managers, sales teams and aspiring leaders grow their business by focusing on the acronym TOP (Team, Offer and Process).  Quotes from Joe This is what I love about doing the conference the way we do it. Everyone is in the same room the entire time. That's where you build the jokes. That's where the running jokes come into play—inside jokes—that's where people get to rub elbows with the people that, like the Dave Jacksons, the Rob Greenlees, I don't want to name too many names because I'm going to forget... Mark Asquith, Harry Duran of Podcast Junkies, Jessica Kupferman She Podcasts... now I'm going to have to rattle off everyone's names because I'm going to forget someone and I'll feel bad because I'll forget someone, but they're in the room with you all day. (17:49) Be willing to 'Just do it!' like Nike says. If you don't know how to run speakers, how to put together a website and stuff, find people that do because there are people out there that will get involved and will donate their time, or be willing to invest your time to be willing to do those things. (19:59) Don't be afraid to take action and make mistakes. Everything I've done has not been perfect. We've run into different issues year after year and we tackle them one at a time. Again it goes back to being a professional problem solver. (20:54)  Figure out what it really is that you really love and then do more of it—and just keep doing more of it. Don't let those things hold you back like 'I don't know this, I don't know that'—and you're right. Most people that end up owning businesses and running businesses, they don't know either! I know that if you ask them, they were figuring it out too. Again, it goes back to, 'Am I willing to solve problems for a living?' (26:40) What You’ll Learn Joe's passion for running in-person events stemmed from his childhood experience of attending his family business' vendor nights to coordinating video game parties and discovering his love for bringing like-minded people together. The pros and cons, as well as dynamics between the bigger conferences versus smaller conferences. Joe's insight and experiences on getting sponsors, attendees, costs, space, keeping things simple to start and then growing the event each year as you get some successes going on. For those either aspiring to start or are starting an event,

This month, we’re featuring dads who rock at life on both the home and business front. Last week, Andy Shaw of Instafather shared precious moments on and how he and his wife skillfully manage family life with a kindergartner and 3-year old twins at Episode 49. On this week’s episode, Super Joe Pardo, founder of the Mid-Atlantic Podcast Conference and father of two—including a newborn—discuss his entrepreneurial journey and how he manages business and life.  So with Joe Pardo, our conversation is broken down into two parts. This week, we'll discuss his childhood dreams and what led him to where he is today. In part two, we'll discuss his inspiration for MAPCon (again the Mid-Atlantic Podcast Conference). But before we dive into the conversation, if you happen to be in the Philadelphia area, both Joe Pardo and I will be speaking over at Podcast Movement which will be held over at the Marriott in center city Philly July 23-26. Just recently, Super Joe released the much-anticipated Sales Won’t Save Your Business to further help business owners, managers, sales teams and aspiring leaders grow their business by focusing on the acronym TOP (Team, Offer and Process).  Quotes from Joe On Discovering What You're Passionate About The people that are most inspired are the people doing some form of what they wanted to do when they were a kid. (6:56) For connecting the dots though, you have to figure out not just what you’re passionate about, and what’s gonna make a difference as far as like if I’m gonna start a business or career. That’s why I always asked the question on the show, ’What was your childhood dream?’ Go back to that. (14:01) Always be checking in that you're happy, and that what you're doing is fulfilling your or that need inside of you saying, Hey, remember when you were a kid when you wanted to be a child psychologist? Well you're not doing that now, right? But when I was a kid there was no such thing as a podcast. When I was a kid, I didn't know I could write books and change people's lives. Like I had a limited view of the world at that point. So that's why I want you to get back to that childhood dream frame of mind and just figure out what is the root of what it is you really want to do? (15:18)   What You’ll Learn How Joe had a calling to help children as a child psychologist at just 7-years old  The steps Joe took to transition from family business building to following his dreams The importance of owning your own dreams and visions and what it will take for you to realize them How an intentional approach to time helps get the most important things done Websites: https://superjoepardo.com/ Social Media:  Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, and Twitter Resource Mentioned: Event Mentioned: PMX COMPETITION ON JULY 23, 2018, 9am - 3pm Marriott, Philadelphia, PA http://pmx.podcastmovement.com/   Podcast Movement July 23-26, 2018 Marriott, Philadelphia, PA https://podcastmovement.com/ Other Listening Options:

Here at Simply Designed Life Podcast, we've mostly discussed work-life balance from the female perspective, but what about the male perspective? I think it was around Episode 10 with Jennifer Ghymn on Writing and the Interculture Life around the 14-minute time mark that we wondered how men juggled work-life balance. To follow up on that conversation, and in honor of the Father's Day weekend, our next couple episodes will be dedicated to the male perspective of productivity within the context of work and family life. First up, we have comedian Andy Shaw of Instafather, and then next week it's Super Joe Pardo, who's the founder of the Mid-Atlantic Podcast Conference and host of The Business Podcast. We'll hear these "Super Men" discuss their journeys and hacks for getting it all done. At any rate, I'm stoked to introduce our next guest whom I had the pleasure of meeting at the fabulous Blog Connect Conference in Philly, hosted by the amazing Chrystina Cappello and team ;). But before that, I wanted to announce that I am excited and honored to be competing in this year's Podcast Movement's PMx Competition. What is PMX exactly? PMx is an adaptation of TEDx talks with a competitive spin. I will have 15 minutes to give my talk in front of four judges, competing with 11 other contestants for the chance to receive the PMX championship belt, be recognized by the Academy of Podcasters Hall of Fame, and be automatically selected to speak at Podcast Movement 2019.  PMx will be on Monday, July 23d from 9am – 3pm EST at the Marriott in Philadelphia, PA. Less than 40 days until I take the PMx stage at @PodcastMovement - no pressure right? A big Shout out to Cypress Resources who will be sponsoring the competition. According to a Communications Research Study, people fear public speaking more than death, and so for me, this should be an interesting challenge to see whether or not I could rise to occasion, own it, or "Bring it On" like in that cheesy, but feel-good, 2000 rom-com with Kirsten Dunst, but most of all, impact those who share the same fears as myself but take courageous action and speak out in spite of those fears. Anyway, enough about the competition and me, let's get into the conversation with Andy Shaw. Who is Andy? Andy Shaw is a full-time college admissions marketing director, a father of twin 3-year-old girls and a 5-year-old boy, an improv comedian with The Oxymorons, a social media consultant, and an avid fan of Black Mirror on Netflix even though it is terrifying. He's made a goal of helping new dads gain confidence with Instather.com, sharing his own stories and practical advice on fatherhood. He's the upcoming author of The New Mom's Guide to New Dads, a book based on helping moms figure out what dads are thinking and how to get them more involved by raising expectations. While all of these jobs and roles may seem like a lot, Andy has watched his incredible wife give birth to twins so he's just gonna keep quiet. Quotes from Andy On Parenting If I accidentally yell in the heat of the moment, my kids are gonna take that a lot more personally than if I just yelled at a stranger who just cut me off on a highway, right? My kids, I have to see them every day, they just don't disappear right down the highway. (13:17) On Tackling Most Important Things (MIT'S): So Pomodoro, 25 minutes on, 5 minutes off, but also priorities so I can list out my priorities for the day, whether it's for career or at home and I always do them in chunks so I always make sure I'm tackling my biggest priorities for the day. So at the end of the day and the week, I know no matter even if the kids are crazy or everything falls apart, I got some of my biggest tasks done. (16:58) Know Thyself You can't be the best at everything. If you’re trying to be the best at everything, you’re probably the best at nothing. Pick a couple things... The more aware you are of what you like and don’t like, know what your strengths are,

Joe Pardo is the host of The Business Podcast and co-creator of the Mid-Atlantic Podcast Conference or MAPCON which debuted in 2015.  Super Joe, as he’s currently referred to, is also the author of four books, a speaker, and has a knack for designing nifty t-shirts people want to wear.  He was turned on to event planning from a young age watching his grandfather put on vendor events in the 80’s and he later started to put together his own LAN parties for video gamers.  After attending a conference in Florida and speaking with Lou Mongello and Jared Easley of Podcast Movement, he got the idea of starting his own podcasting conference for the entire Mid-Atlantic region. 07:26 - The idea behind my Podcast Junkies t-shirts 08:50 - Joe’s Mic Dropper shirt and creating shirts people want to wear 11:18 - His MAPCON shirts 14:01 - The origins of MAPCON 22:37 - His knack for being a very generous host 25:23 - What sets his conference apart from other podcast conferences 26:43 - The “Dating Game” panel they created with podcast coaches & new podcasters 28:13 - MAPCON’s, “Create a Podcast on the Fly” contest 29:04 - One of the things he had to learn to improve MAPCON 31:28 - Adding another day to MAPCON 2018 32:54 - What drew him to DJ’ing early on in his life 35:42 - When I first started DJ’ing 38:46 - Joe’s Adventurtorium album and how it led him to start podcasting 41:10 - His experience editing audio and how he got the idea for his podcast 46:01 - The different types of series he’s done on his show 47:29 - The new series he just launched 49:21 - A common theme he’s noticed in his conversations on The Dreamers podcast 51:57 - What drives him to keep writing books 54:47 - His new book, Sales Won’t Save Your Business 56:09 - Joe talks about the three other books he’s written 1:00:14 - Joe’s two pieces of advice for content creators 1:02:02 - Something he’s changed his mind about recently 1:04:31 - The one most misunderstood thing about him Full Show Notes: http://podcastjunkies.com/Joe-Pardo-interview★ Support this podcast on Patreon ★

April 2, 2014, I ended my life long journey of working at my family's $100 Million business without a clue as to what I was going to do to support my wife and I. I went back to school to try to figure it out and started going to networking meetings to potentially find a path. One month later I was on a plane to Disney World and thanks to a friend on the plane I was inspired to start the Dreamers Podcast which three years later would transition into The Business Podcast. I built on the fact that I started blogging back in 1996 as a kid and never stopped. Content creation and bringing people together has always been my goal. Towards the end of 2014, I even started up the Mid-Atlantic Podcast Conference which has been growing year over year since. I've given tons of talks across the country both advocating for people to find and pursue their dreams, grow their business, and pushing for others to create their own content to connect with others and create a movement. I've written four books with the first three being critically acclaimed self-development books and the fourth coming out on March 2, 2018. Podcasting means the world to me and I could not imagine my life without it. I have always experimented with trying new things on my show. From doing the show five days a week for four months back when I was just getting started, to have a pre-show in front of my guest interviews, to doing topic shows and so much more. I always push my fellow podcasters to own the fact that their show is theirs and they shouldn't allow others to dictate how long an episode should be or what it should be about (within reason of staying cohesive with the brand you are creating). Over the nearly four years of podcasting I always get the same question: but how do you make any money from doing a podcast? I explain to them that from my show I have made almost zero dollars. Because of my podcast I have been able to make a living, a successful business and a brand revolving around what I love to do. Are You An Independent Podcaster? Learn more Join us at our next event! Going from having a wife to becoming a family of four has changed my expectations for what I need to accomplish in my allotted time and the amount of money my time is worth has greatly increased over the last four years. Another thing that has changed is the direction and mission of my podcast. I changed the name to The Business Podcast shortly after winning Business Podcast of the year from the 12th Annual Podcast Awards to better reflect the topic of my show. While my show started out as a self-development show, over the course of the years it morphed into a show about business. Which is a topic that I am endlessly passionate about? A Happy New Year to you! I hope you were able to reflect on your wins and lessons learned from the past year, as well as set intentions for growth in all areas of life for this coming year. My conversation with Harry Duran is in two parts. The first part focuses on how cultivating an abundance mentality can help in one’s success journey. Sometimes that starts with investing in yourself and investing in others for personal growth, but without sounding too woo-woo, having that generosity of heart can also lead to more good things in the future. It also discusses how to experience growth outside one’s comfort zone. I had met Harry at the Mid-Atlantic Podcast Conference in the fall of last year, and am thrilled to share this conversation, especially in light of recent events. After hearing Oprah Winfrey’s empowering speech at the Golden Globes, I think there’s an opportunity and responsibility to speak our truths for what’s right on a global and local scale and create safe spaces for personal freedoms. Without getting too deep, as that’s a separate conversation altogether, and you’ll find conversations on that all across the Internet, what I like about my chat with Harry is getting those courage muscles moving like you would at the gym. Because to get to the “new day that’s on the horizon” or in this case a new year as in new year’s resolutions, we need to take that first step and get out of our comfort zones as related to personal growth and development which in the end, is a service to the greater good. With that, let’s get into the first part of the conversation. Who is Harry? Harry Duran is Founder of FullCast, a full-service, done-for-you podcast production and marketing consultancy. He helps six-figure entrepreneurs amplify their authority and extend their reach through the power of podcasting. As Host of the popular Podcast Junkies on iTunes for the past 3 years, Harry has had conversations with a wide array of interesting and engaging podcasters. Some of his most memorable guests have included Marc Maron, Executive Producer Brendan McDonald, Lea Thau, Host of Strangers, Helen Zaltzman, Host of The Allusionist, and Jordan Harbinger, Host of The Art of Charm, just to name a few. Harry has given talks at podcasting conferences on the importance of finding your voice and the importance of long-term engagement with your podcast guests. Harry shares lessons learned from his first 25 interviews in his first book, Around the Podcast Campfire: Conversations with Engaging Podcasters. As a consultant and coach, Harry empowers clients to augment their content marketing through the power of a podcast. As a speaker, Harry challenges leaders to understand the importance of finding their unique voice. Quotes from Harry I had this realization that I need to stop listening to other people and figure out what my voice is telling me to do. (4:45) No podcaster likes their first episode, and their tenth is going to sound better than their first, and their fiftieth is gonna sound better than their tenth and so on and so on and you keep getting better. If you don't start getting on that bicycle and start learning, and take those training wheels off as soon as possible, you're just gonna be stuck and you're not gonna be improving. And if you're a real entrepreneur, you have to be super comfortable with failure, you know. And this idea of failing fast and failing forward as they say, you know you just get up you just dust yourself off. (8:03) I think I heard someone say if you have a coach and they don't have a coach then you need a new coach. (12:44) I looked at my circle and I'm like 'Who are the people who are building businesses?' And I really didn't know a lot of people, and I'm like 'I need to find out who these people are and invest in myself,' and I just continued to have that mindset on a regular basis. (17:37) What You’ll Learn His transition from six-figure corporate earner to full-time podcaster

I had met Scott Mulvaney at the Mid-Atlantic Podcast Conference in the Philadelphia area where he spoke about embracing change. What I like about this next episode in particular is hearing not only his transition from corporate sales to public service, but hearing about his own personal transformation and who he became in the process. In my commitment to changing things up on the podcast and bringing you all in for the journey, we’re splitting this particular episode into two parts. Part I addresses Scott’s background and how he got into an elite branch of firefighting known as the Hotshots. Coincidentally enough, a movie based on the Hotshots just came out in theaters in September and Scott mentioned knowing about 17 of the 19 who’ve sacrificed their lives in order to be of service to others. Part II will discuss podcasting and the differences in gender styles when it comes to marketing. Please note, these are just generalizations and of course there are exceptions. And we dive into the topic of vulnerability in connection to marketing and being vulnerable to your audience, who you’re meant to serve and who are meant to learn from you. Actually, this weekend, Sunday in fact I’m proud to present at a workshop in partnership with PHLBloggers in Philadelphia, PA. (Details are below under Resources and Events Page.)   Who is Scott? Scott Mulvaney has a philosophy to help others live The Fired Up Epic Life! He launched the LIVE THE FUEL Podcast in 2016 to help FUEL your health, business and lifestyle. Through years spent in sales, marketing, operations, and management he's here to help you control how you exist in the online marketplace. Scott Mulvaney acquired 20+ years of conquering professional roles in sales, marketing, coaching, training, leadership development, and the fitness space. His fitness niche has spanned 15 of those 20+ years. He is a "Scott of All Trade's" with an adrenaline junkie, athletic, yet techy passion for self-development and lifestyle transformation. Scott embodies the limitless energy necessary for success. This is fueled by his years in the health and fitness coaching space. His lifestyle freedom passions include balancing life with CrossFit, skiing, cycling, skydiving, and travel. Scott balances professional pursuits with philanthropic activities, having served as board member and investing countless volunteerism hours with multiple 501(c)(3) organizations. Scott's diverse background includes having served in public service as a Hotshot Wildland Firefighter with the U.S. Forest Service as well.   Quotes from Scott  I negotiated my own dismissal from my job because I hated it...I was selling retirement plans and stuff like that for ADP and I was the second top salesperson. My boss said,'You want to leave? You're kicking ass, you've only been here a year.' I said, 'Yeah, but I hate it.' So I was like, 'My degree is about to be done and I've got this thing, so I need some time freedom.'  (12:06) I was already hired, whether they liked it or not, I was there, man. Like I'm becoming one of their brothers. In the beginning of that rookie year—I'm also considered 'the old guy,' that's the best part, I'm 31 and I'm like 'really dude?' (16:40)  Here's the crossover that I'm kind of hinting at. I've met some driven Millennials. And the one thing they all end up getting is that they know that they can do more. They don't have blinders on. Whereas, a lot of us in the Gen X World have blinders on. (23:48) Nowadays when I look at the Millennial generation, I love it. There's a lot of drive, there's a lot of passion. They hear and they see thanks to social media that there are people out there getting it done and finding a way to do things outside the box, launch online businesses, launch online successful shopping carts, websites, blogs, podcasts, whatever. (24:50) Have the psychology, have the drive, have the mindset, that you know that you're capable of more,

I just saw The Minimalists (Joshua Fields Millburn and Ryan Nicodemes and of the Netflix Documentary Minimalism) in real life on their tour in Philadelphia, got to connect with them and they were talking about having a great fan base in Australia, of which they’ll be touring in the next year. Ironically enough my next guest Salena Knight is indeed Australian AND works in the retail industry, which the Minimalists both had a background in which I found ironic. Maybe at some point THEY could have a conversation, which would be very interesting, but I digress. Just an aside, I’m inspired to change the format for this particular episode after attending the amazing Mid-Atlantic Podcast Conference, also held in the Philadelphia area, hosted by Joe Pardo (a shout out to him and his team). So for the first half of this episode, we’ll deep dive into Salena’s background and what makes for a simply designed life, as per this podcast’s theme. Then for the second half, we’ll dig into connecting with people in the age of technology. How do we do it in personal life and business? How do we bring things back to that level where we can relate as humans and have those genuine conversations, like during our grandparents’ time? Who is Salena? Australia based Salena Knight is a retail business strategist, consultant and host of Bringing Business to Retail Podcast. She formed her consultancy in 2015 after becoming frustrated with the lack of reliable information out there for business owners. So many people work in their business, and they just don't know how to find the time to learn new things to grow and to be inspired. Salena’s mission is to teach business owners to have more confidence, get more done, resolve the chaos and maximize profit. Prior to launching her business, Salena worked in the sustainability sector of the government. When Salena’s not helping business owners strategize, she’s playing mum to her daughter. Quotes from Salena As I look back, my whole business is about change, my whole being is about change, you know, what could we change to make this better, what could we change to make this easier? (6:41) What I worked out during that process is that I draw my energy from other people so being in a shop was great because I’d build a constant high because I’d be helping people all the time and now — and I love start-ups and the essence of the start up, getting in the trenches — but I don’t need to create a hundred different start-up businesses, I could just hang out with the start-up people and move them to the next level. (11:06) It's the same with like surf brands, Lululemon or athletic wear. You want to be associated with that culture. I think when you automate a business like Tim Ferris did, there is no culture, you could outsource your blog writing. You could outsource your shipping and your dispatch and you can outsource your web design but somebody needs to be the glue that holds it all together... The book is about making money, not building a brand, building relationships, building the confidence in your customer, maybe that's where we're different... (18:37)   What You’ll Learn Salena's transition from government, to retail, to being a mentor for retailers How a collaborative approach helped improve organization systems to get more things done in her business The importance of taking care of and providing that "wow" experience for customers Connecting in the digital age and the importance of allowing time for self-care to slow down and destress Resources Mentioned and How to Connect: Website:  https://salenaknight.com Podcast and Social Media:  Podcast, Facebook and Instagram Other Listening Options: Individual player or full player view on website: http://lorirochino.com/podcast-2/

Book Talk (8:51) Links Ch 106 [] [] 107 [] []and the [] | Mapcon 2017 | I spent last weekend at the Mid-Atlantic Podcast Conference and had the pleasure of meeting a hotel full of wonderful podcasters. Recording from home can be isolating at times, so it feels great to go out into the wild and meet up with fellow casters to talk about improving our shows and the impact we have on listeners. I've listed a handful of podcasts I encountered at the conference (which I go into more detail about in the episode). Be brave! Find something new to listen to.  --For kids who are Harry Potter Lovers (or soon-to-be HPLs)--going chapter by chapter through the books. Started Sept 1st. --Native American stories (hosts grandmother, 92?) is at the Standing Rock Res. ! And was out at the protests. --pretty much as you’d expect --host interviews politicians on both sides about the GOOD things they are doing. --exactly what you think, hosted by Mark Gillespie. One of the longest running, certainly one of the longest profitable, podcasts out there (out of southern NJ, too!) Fan Theory Podcast --iTunes etc, “everyone’s a fan of something” --always interesting, usually funny, mostly true --discover awesome and unique craft beers with Amanda --my table mate and King of All Media, Harry Duran, hosts this interview show. —Host and water expert Stefan Roots has the loveliest voice conveying some Really Dirty Info —if you have a Funko Pop Collector or just Funko Fans in the house, they now have a podcast to listen to—all for them! This week on the podcast, I had the pleasure of interviewing Tina Dietz, owner of Start Something Business Solutions. Tina and I met last September when she was speaking at Mid-Atlantic Podcast Conference here in New Jersey. I knew from the moment that Tina shared her story that I wanted to invite her to be a guest on my podcast. I just knew that her story would inspire and excite YOU to start something brilliant. Tina Dietz is an internationally acclaimed business coach, audiobook publisher and launch specialist, podcast producer and a bestselling author who has been featured on ABC, Inc.com, Huffington Post and Forbes. Her podcast, The Start Something Show, was named one of the top podcasts for entrepreneurs on Inc.com. Her company helps clients who want more than just a business and more than a routine life – they want a Business Oasis. I LOVE that! One of the things that we jump into during this interview is the idea that so many creatives and entrepreneurs struggle with avoiding shiny bright objects and staying focused. It’s because they have brilliant ideas and love starting new projects but often have a hard time finishing them. (I know this is one of my own personal challenges.) Tina sheds light on this topic and shows you how to redirect your excitement of “starting” so you can finish what you’ve started. It’s powerful! Tina shares lots of great tips during our time together and suggests that you read the book, Big Magic, by Elizabeth Gilbert. You can connect with Tina and learn more about her by visiting: Her website: www.StartSomethingCreativeBizSolutions.com Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/thestartsomethingmovement Twitter: www.twitter.com/TheSuperStarter LinkedIn: http://www.linkedin.com/in/tinadietz It’s hard to believe that this is my 87th episode, but it is. And that means that I’m only 13 episodes away from my next big milestone as a podcaster! I’ll share more about what I’m planning as we get closer. For now, I want you to think about one thing that you learned from my interview with Tina and how you will implement it in your life. Let me know what you’re going to start. You can leave me a note in the comments or send an email to Erica@momswithdreams.com. I hope this was valuable to you in some way and that you now have a different outlook on your life, your business or both. I’ll be back next week with more inspiration and education. Get out there, do what you love and make a difference! xoxo, Erica

Reading or. ListeningReading is much faster than listening, and many of your show’s visitors might prefer to quickly scan a transcript of your content before listening to it – including your existing audience. It’s important that your podcast catches your listeners’ attention even before they press play, and giving them an at-a-glance look at what your podcast’s all about could help you gain new listeners and keep your current fans. In short, make sure to add (a part of) your podcast’s transcription to your show notes, and that you’ve used great artwork!2. Social Media SharingIncluding the complete text of your audio on your episode’s page makes it easier for people to share it via Twitter, Facebook, Google+, and the myriad of other social media sites out there. Your listeners can copy and paste quotes or highlight a particular section and share it with their own network in a pinch. Higher sharing rates mean more traffic towards your show. You’ll also be able to write other blog posts using your transcribed content that can be shared later on. “Some of you might podcast for the fun they get out of it, others because they want to share their expertise and yet others because they want to push their business forward. So why not reuse something you already have produced and turn it into something new.” (Podigee.com)3. Indexing & SearchThe biggest advantage to having a transcription is that search engines can easily index your content with the available text. Better indexing will lead to more search traffic and visitors, as well as long tail search traffic (meaning those obscure terms that get your episode page to appear in the search results). Your show could get linked by others, and get a higher page ranking.4. How can I easily transcribe my podcast?Creating a transcript can be tedious work, especially if your episode is particularly long. You can do it on your own, but it’s definitely a mindless task that can take up loads of time. Because of this, outsourcing this work is a good option. For our podcasters, Spreaker has partnered with Scribie to offer them the best transcription service available at unbeatable rates. If you want to know more about it, check out our Store section. https://www.spreaker.com/store/transcriptdo that is to use the right font. Another great tip from Daniel J. Lewis: Serif fonts (with “feet”), like Times New Roman, Garamond, or Bodoni, often have thin lines and small details that get lost or blurred at small sizes. Script fonts can be too ornate to be legible, unless they’re really big (and never put a script font in all-caps!). Sans serif fonts (“without feet”), like Arial, Myriad Pro, or Futura, work really well with thick or uniform-thickness lines, clear characters, and strong contrasts from the background. Let’s Dive into our main topic this week “How to Select a Podcast Name”BIG News: IAB Podcast Ad Metric Guidelines have been releasedExecutive SummaryPodcast audiences represent a growing segment of effective marketable media but inheritchallenges of legacy consumption platforms. This restricts the ability for advertisers to obtain the same data parity found in other digital mediums, limiting participation of some advertisers. This document provides an introduction to tracking Ad delivery in a podcast and attempts to provide clarity in the marketplace by describing common and existing practices. Podcasts are downloaded to a device for later listening or for online listening. In most cases the podcast file and any ads included with it are downloaded to a device that doesn't, or can't, send data about the consumption of the podcast and ads. This lack of data beyond ad delivery limits real-time measurement. In contrast, other media are consumed by reading an article and interacting with a site, playing a game, or streaming a video, all of which can be measured in real time. Even audio stations that offer music or news are streamed and measured in real time in today’s media marketplace.Unlike streaming audio, podcast listeners come from an era where files were downloaded. The medium, the distribution, and the platforms used to collect and listen are built around the habit of downloading the file. Tracking content in this time-shifted medium involves filtering server logs to produce meaningful data for measurement. Since podcast technical teams analyze server logs differently, results vary across the industry. The challenge for podcast producers and distributors is to offer buyers a set of metrics that is consistently defined and measured equally across the podcast medium. While ad measurement will always produce some discrepancy in any medium, the definitions in this document aim to reduce measurement discrepancies. This document is the first attempt to bring IAB members together, describe common practices and provide a common set of metric definitions. With a consistent set of podcast advertising metrics, buyers and sellers can engage in a conversation about campaign strategy with confidence.https://iabtechlab.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/07/Podcast-Metrics_September_2016.pdfLet’s Dive into our main topic this week “How To Lead and Host a Successful Podcast”- What does it take to be a great podcast host? - Do you know a lot about your topic genre? - Do you know how to use a microphone? - Amazing podcast hosts are funny, engaging, friendly (usually) and informed. One thing is for Podcasters to never lose their confidence, and keep plugging away!! Like me, my show is in it's baby stages.... But I'm coming! ;o)Gail Nobles from iOS:It's nice to have listeners, but it's also good to know how well you are doing. You can get 60 views or listeners without anyone commenting or likes on your podcast. It's interesting to know what radio and podcasters aim for?Spreaker Blog at http://Blog.Spreaker.com – Articles and Spreaker News- I will be at the coming Mid-Atlantic Podcast Conference in Philly - Sept 9-10 - Moderating Hall of Fame Panel and Sponsoring an awards event - Live streaming at the event - http://podcastmidatlantic.comOur Tip of the Week is a Blog Post: 9 Steps To Making Great Podcast Cover Art1. Follow iTunes’ requirementsiTunes is the largest podcast directory, and the most popular, so it’s important to make sure your artwork adheres to its requirements. As stated in iTunes’ help section, they require that Podcast feeds contain artwork that is a minimum size of 1400 x 1400 pixels and a maximum size of 3000 x 3000 pixels, 72 dpi, in JPEG or PNG format with appropriate file extensions (.jpg, .png), and in the RGB colorspace. To optimize images for mobile devices, Apple recommends compressing your image files to 500K size max.2. Design it for scalabilityEven if iTunes requires min. 1400 x 1400 images, always remember that your cover art can get scaled down at any point, so it must remain legible even when its dimensions are really small. Starting creating your artwork with the smallest size first, like 600x600, 300x300, 125 x 125, 75x75 or 55 x 55. If it still looks good and you can clearly make out what’s there, it’s perfect! Podcasters: make sure your cover artwork looks great and is legible when scaled down.3. Use high quality images or vector graphicsThe last thing to keep in mind when it comes to sizes and pixels is that even if you’ve sized your artwork correctly, it will still look bad if the images aren’t high quality in the first place, and you’ll spoil the final product. You can find great, high quality pictures on the many free stock picture websites around, like pexels.com or istockphoto.com. You can also try creating cover artwork with vector graphics using Canva.com. If you’re comfortable with Adobe’s suite, you’ll also find some great readymade vector graphics on freepik.com. 4. Keep it consistent with your brandGenerally speaking, you should never underestimate the importance of brand consistency: you want to stay recognizable and familiar to your listeners no matter what they see. It’s why you should use the same logo, fonts, and general color scheme for your artwork on Spreaker, iTunes, and every other podcatcher, as well as your website, social network pages, and accounts. We recommend you create a template for episode images, so that you can distinguish episodes from each other, yet still keep them consistent with the show’s overall artwork.5. Make it eye-catchingAs listeners browse through shows on Spreaker, they’ll be deciding in a matter of seconds what to pass up based solely on who has attractive or unattractive images. So, consider creating artwork with bold contrast, and try to use images that will immediately convey what your podcast is about. The best podcast cover artwork is simple + iconographic. Keep to ONE logo (avoid network logos) to ensure legibility6. Easily communicate what your podcast is aboutYour show’s art is the first thing your listeners will see, even before listening to your podcast. That’s why it has to visually evoke the content of your show to your listeners. The question you should answer with your artwork is: what is my show about? 7. Use few wordsThere’s no time to read, not even a haiku! This is not the place to explain with words what your show is about. Save those syllables for your podcast description section! Daniel J. Lewis of The Audacity To Podcast gave this great advice: “The easiest word to remove from your cover art can be the word ‘podcast,’ as it’s really unnecessary in your title. Think of ‘podcast’ as the label for your distribution method (which it actually is, technically) and not part of your title unless necessary.”8. Don’t use more than 2 fontsYour artwork’s text needs to be legible, even at the tiniest dimensions, and the easiest way to do that is to use the right font. 9. Avoid overused imagesLike the word “podcast”, try to avoid microphones, headsets, and other overused pictures of podcasting gear. Podcasting is the medium, just focus on the great content you’re sharing and make it eye-catching by following all our previous steps! (The only exceptions are podcasts about podcasting!) Don’t be overwhelmed at all the steps we’ve listed above, it’s not as daunting as it seems! But if you really think it’s too much work or you’re not confident enough in your design skills, consider paying an artist who can quickly make high quality graphic designs for you. Spreaker Live Show #78 for Aug 24th, 2016Our Topics This Week: - How to Select a Podcast Name- Tip of the Week “9 Steps To Making Great Podcast Cover Art”Show Duration: 29 minutesHost: Rob Greenlee, Head of Content, Spreaker @robgreenlee - rob(at)spreaker(dotcom)Co-Host: Alex Exum, Spreaker Host of "The Exum Experience" and the "Spreaker Studio Review" shows at @AlexExumWe had some feedback from last weeks show #77:THE X & Y SHOW from Spreaker.com:Lot of good points. Being blind has not stopped Maxwell Ivey from pressing forward with his dreams and becoming the blind blogger! Connect with Maxwell Ivey theblindblogger.net midwaymarketplace.com 979-215-1770 justask@theblindblogger.net I am so happy that Maxwell Ivey reached out to be a few months back about my Mid-Atlantic Podcast Conference. We chatted a bit and after finding out what he does, I felt he was a great fit to bring him onto Dreamers Podcast! :) Read more about Maxwell Ivey I am a 49-year-old  blind gentleman who grew up in a family of carnival owners. All I ever wanted to do was to continue in my father's and grandfather's footsteps and be part of the family business. As you can tell by reading this, that isn't where I ended up. I did help in the business over the years, but couldn't sustain it after the early death of my father (who had lung cancer). I then turned to helping people sell their amusement equipment. I do that on my other site, The Midway Marketplace. I started blogging to promote that site and met a lot of wonderful people in the blogosphere. They told me that I had an amazing story and many commented on how I inspired them. They finally convinced me that I had a bigger purpose in store for myself. So, I started this second blog, and in it I share more of my personal journey, struggles, and triumphs. I also got noticed by a lot of people and have appeared as a guest, an interview subject, and a motivator on many different sites. My As Seen Online page lists these places. I do my best to help others, and do so mostly by encouraging them to take steps towards their ultimate goal, or to continue on the path they have started. I am now offering coaching to help people who are stuck and frustrated with not being able to find their passion or follow their dreams once they have determined what they want in their lives. I am also available to speak to groups. I believe that by sharing the story of my personal growth and transformation, it will motivate and inspire anyone who hears it. In addition to starting a new business, I have also lost over 250 pounds through a combination of gastric surgery, diet, exercise, positive attitude, meditation, and prayer. I believe I can help you. If you have questions for me, just ask them via the contact form. If anything, I am known for being too forthcoming! I want to get to know you and become friends. I want to hear about your dreams and aspirations as well as your fears and concerns. I want to help you to grow to be that person you were meant to be. I look forward to speaking with you. Let's talk soon. Thanks and take care out there. Max Episode 212

This week, we have Joe Pardo, host of the Dreamer's Podcast, the brand new Birth Podcast and creator of the Mid-Atlantic Podcast Conference, which we talked about last week.  Joe is enthusiastic, passionate, giving, hard-working and dedicated to creating amazing experiences in his podcasts and at podcast events.    Joe talks about the creation of the podcast conference and why he loves holding events with fellow podcasters.  There's a lot you can learn from Joe's enthusiasm and I encourage you to check out the conference next year.     This week I also talk about a new hosting platform with some amazing new tools for podcasters called Smab.  It offers transcription services, which is great for SEO, but he also has some amazing interactive features that will make displaying your podcast that much better.  These are the kinds of features that should make all podcasters really excited about the future of this medium.  So make sure you sign up for the beta at Smab.Audio.  Also, as a reminder, if you recently launched a new podcast, are considering one, or just want to be more involved in the podcasting industry, shoot me a note and let's talk about your aspirations right here on PodUp.  Would love to hear from you! You can reach out by following me on twitter @PodUpPodcast, contacting me through my consulting website MPassyProductions.com or email me directly at Mathew@Mpassyproductions.com.     Mid-Atlantic Podcast Conference - http://podcastmidatlantic.com/  Dreamers Podcast - http://howtodream.co/ Birth Podcast - http://www.birthpodcast.com/ Smab - http://smab.audio/

I had the pleasure of speaking Saturday, Sept. 12, at the Mid-Atlantic Podcast Conference in Westville, New Jersey. It was a great opportunity to meet a bunch of podcasters from the East Coast and learn about the great work they're doing. One of the people I met was Joe Pardo of the inspirational Dreamers Podcast.I can attest that Joe is a real-life dreamer and a pretty cool dude. He organized the conference and runs a network that hosts four other podcasts. How cool is he? He took 10 minutes out of running a podcasting conference to talk to me about what inspires him.Enjoy this mini, mid-week episode featuring my conversation with Joe.-- Michael O'Connell
