Farmers are making money like never before. The latest from the government analysts at ABARES forecasts the value of Australian agriculture has jumped to a record 81-billion dollars this financial year. Good weather and high prices mean the average farm income has risen by more than 40 per cent in some cases. The Russian invasion of Ukraine has seen commercial activity in the Black Sea and Sea of Azov grind to a halt. That means millions of tonnes of wheat and corn are now sitting in store and not leaving the docks. As the world responds to the Ukraine war, trade between Russia and Europe is likely to be severely disrupted. For Europe, that means an impact to supply of commodities like coal, LNG, and also iron ore. So, is there room for Australia's producers to take advantage of the disruptions?

Despite recent dramatic flooding in parts of the eastern states, Australia's winter grain crop is probably going to be a record. 58 million tonnes is the figure quoted in the latest report from ABARES, the Government commodity forecaster. Rob Weinthal farms near Boggabri and he is an agronomist in that flooded Gunnedah region. He said it has been chaotic trying to save homes and infrastructure, livestock and machinery. Mark Flannagan, farms at Pindar, about 140 kilometres east of Geraldton. He said this season has been one of their best, but also one of the weirdest, because it started with a cyclone.

The state government has announced a new $50 million fund to drive renewable hydrogen industry development in Western Australia. In the latest round of funding BP Australia will receive $300, 000 to progress its Kwinana Clean Fuels Hub proposal. Hydrogen minister Alannah MacTiernan is confident WA can become a pioneer in the hydrogen industry. Trials are underway in several Australian states to see how hydrogen could fit into the agriculture sector as an alternative energy source. The latest ABARES figures are out and it looks like a record of more than 23 million hectares of winter crop has been planted this year.

Australia's farmers have planted more hectares of grain this winter than ever before. The latest crop forecast, by government forecaster ABARES is out today, and as economist Peter Collins explains, nationally it could reap about 47 million tonnes of grain. The national crop probably won't suffer much damage from the mouse plague in the eastern states. But that doesn't mean some farmers won't be significantly affected by the pest. Ant Martin farms in the central west of NSW and says he was shocked to see his entire sorghum crop completely destroyed by mice. Almost in a reverse of what we've seen over the last week, the Nasdaq surged 2.9% and the S&P500 rose 2.4%. Investors bought heavily into big tech giants and economic recovery stocks, and sold down on bonds. So long-term interest rates have fallen and importantly they've also stabilised, proving the risk on mood is back. The futures are suggesting the Aussie share market will lift 0.7%, which will be a nice addition to yesterday's 1.7% push up. What to watch today:Tech stocks will see a lot of action today - after pulling back 13% last week. Agricultural stocks like Elders (ASX:ELD), Greenlane Renewables (ASX:GRN), Nufarm (ASX:NUF) and Rural Funds Group (ASX:RRF), as the Ag-body ABARES is forecasting the sector will recover $66b of their produce this year. Aged care companies like Estia (ASX:EHE) and Regis (ASX:REG) who are likely to receive an extra $452m in funding in the wake of the Aged Care Royal Commission.  Building permits are out today for Jan - the market expects permits to have fallen 3% in Jan. The RBA meets today – all eyes will be on stimulus - as in how much more bonds will be bought to keep the AUD low. Trading ideas:Atomo Diagnostics (ASX:AT1) was initiated as a Bell Potter speculative Buy with a $0.60 target, implying 155% upside. UBS increased its Buy recommendations on Nufarm (ASX:NUF) with a $5.70 price target. BlueScope Steel (ASX:BSL), Straker Translation (ASX:STG) and OFX Group (ASX:OFX) are all giving off bullish charting signals according to Trading Central.
