We used to think that our brain and gut connection were sending each other a single message from one to the other but now we know that they are actually sending four messages for every single one. The gut and the brain are constantly communicating with each other. So, when our gut is unhealthy, where 95% of our serotonin and 50% of our dopamine is made, then our brain becomes unhealthy too. We're eating three times a day and if we're eating inflammatory foods we are creating an inflammatory environment three times a day not only in our gut but also in our brain. - Autumn Smith   What simple dietary changes can create positive health results for your body's unique needs?   Get 15% off your CURED Nutrition order with the code WELLNESSFORCE   ---> Get The Morning 21 System: A simple and powerful 21 minute system designed to give you more energy to let go of old weight and live life well.   JOIN THE FACEBOOK GROUP | *REVIEW THE PODCAST*   Wellness Force Radio Episode 352 Co-founder of Paleovalley, Co-Founder of Wild Pastures, and co-host of the top-ranked Optimize Paleo Podcast, Autumn Smith, returns to Wellness Force to explore how we can heal the brain with food, common gut-brain issues, the three foundational steps to a healthier you, and why we should nourish ourselves seasonally.   Discover why so many of us are experiencing poor mental health during this enforced lockdown and what nutrients can help you heal mentally, physically, and emotionally.   Listen To Episode 352 As Autumn Smith Uncovers:   [1:30] Getting To The Root Of Gut-Brain Issues Autumn Smith WFR 135 Autumn Smith Paleovalley Wild Pastures ‎Optimize Paleo Podcast by Paleovalley The incredible personal story of Autumn's background and her life before Paleovalley and becoming a certified eating psychology coach. BREATHE M21 Wellness Guide Wellness Force Community   Power Quotes From The Show   Autumn's Three Foundational Health Steps "There are three foundational steps that I like to teach people to help heal their gut and brain when inflammation is present. Find the inflammation, make sure that your nutrient bases are covered, stabilize your blood sugar, and on top of all of that, get some tests done. It's about finding your specific imbalances and then getting the assistance to make some real positive life changes." - Autumn Smith   Creating Discussions Around Nutrient Deficiencies "Many of us are facing nutrient deficiencies and we're not talking enough about what we should be eating. We're all talking about eliminating gluten, soy, dairy, and whatever else and that is great and can be very empowering for a lot of people. However, the bigger picture that we all miss is, 'What are we eating?' and 'Is this enough to sustain us?' because we need to think about how to aid our brain chemicals. That protein you eat is becoming your neurotransmitters. So, if we're not getting enough protein or if the body is unable to digest it, then it will manifest into nutrient deficiencies." - Autumn Smith     The Golden Ticket To Your Perfect Diet "What it all comes down to in creating the perfect diet for you is listening to your intuition and your body because you are the only person who can design it. Don't eat something just because an expert tells you to if you don't like that food. Also if something is working for you today it might not necessarily work for you tomorrow or in the next season. We have to eat in tune with our environment and our life circumstances. There will be times where you experience seasons of nourishment that you need to move through, question, stay aware, and know that your body is going to give you the feedback that you need unless your metabolism has been hijacked with really, really processed foods. Once you tune in and heal what needs your attention, that's going to be your golden ticket to the perfect diet." - Autumn Smith     Links From Today's Show  Autumn Smith WFR 135 Autumn Smith Wild Pastures ‎Optimize Paleo Podcast by Paleovalley The #1 Nutrient to Boost Your Mental Health 345 Dr. Zach Bush Gluten Triggers Strange Delusions in Woman with Celiac Disease The Baffling Connection Between Vegetarianism and Depression Julia Ross' Cures Felice Jacka Junk Food May Increase Depression Risk Healthy Eating for Growing Bodies & Minds EP211: Getting Kids to Care About Healthy Food (& Eat It Too) with Katie Kimball Greens Every Day Keeps Your Brain 11 Years Younger 341 Josh Clemente  103 Robb Wolf 275 Paul Chek  The End of Alzheimer's: The First Program to Prevent and Reverse Cognitive Decline by Dale Bredesen Cronometer 252 Harpreet Rai Trace Elements Morley Robbins aka Magnesium Man Michael Pollan 311 Mark Wolynn Leave Wellness Force a review on iTunes BREATHE M21 Wellness Guide Wellness Force Community Paleovalley Facebook Instagram   About Autumn Smith Autumn Smith has been a health enthusiast her entire life. She began her academic career with a Bachelor's degree in psychology and a minor in dance from the University of Montana. Upon graduation, Autumn danced professionally while becoming a certified yoga instructor. Hoping to combine her love of dance with her passion for health, Autumn became a celebrity fitness trainer with Tracy Anderson, most notably completing a world tour with Jennifer Lopez. Autumn & Paleyvalley's Mission While working as a fitness trainer, Autumn could see that exercise alone was not enough for many of her clients to achieve the radiant health they worked so hard to achieve. Meanwhile, Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) and anxiety continued to plague her personal health, starting in adolescence. These frustrations further ignited her passion and interest in the study of holistic nutrition. Through self-guided research, she and her husband, Chas, healed her IBS with the paleo diet. She then studied with the Institute for the Psychology of Eating to become a Certified Eating Psychology Coach and Hawthorn University where she obtained a Masters in Holistic Nutrition. In 2013, she founded Paleo valley with her husband and brother-in-law. Paleo valley’s mission is to disseminate excellent nutritional information and organic food products with 100 million people worldwide.   Try Paleovalley's Turkey & Grass Fed Beef Sticks Get 15% off Paleovalley's tryptophan-rich Pasture-Raised Turkey Stick and Grass Fed Beef Stick with the code JOSH Paleovalley's Pasture-Raised Turkey Stick Our Pasture-Raised Turkey Sticks are made with happy, healthy turkeys – none of this "cage free" or "free range" trickery here. Pasture-raised animals living a natural life are, not surprisingly, much healthier and contain higher levels of vitamins and minerals. They also have a much more favorable omega-3 to omega-6 fatty acid ratio which is important because when omega-6 levels are too high inflammation is often the result.   With such high quality ingredients we didn't want to degrade the product in the processing. While most snack stick products contain a health-damaging ingredient called encapsulated citric acid, we naturally ferment our sticks which results in a delicious, shelf stable product with the presence of gut-friendly probiotics.     Paleovalley's Grass Fed Beef Sticks Our 100% Grass Fed Beef Sticks are made beef from happy, healthy cows. They are NEVER fed grains. Unlike most companies using the term "grass fed" even though their products are NOT grass finished - we actually care about the quality of life the animals enjoy. Truly pasture-raised cows are, not surprisingly, much healthier than grain fed cows and contain higher levels of vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants. Did you know that toxins can have a direct impact on your weight? Clinical nutritionist and functional medicine practitioner Josh Gitalis dives into this topic to tell us more about obesogens, toxins, and how we can detoxify to gain optimal health. You can find all the info and links about this episode at https://holisticwellness.ca/episode61. Topics Discussed in this Episode: What are obesogens The places where we can find these toxins Endocrine disruptors and its effects Strategies that we can utilize to detoxify The channels of elimination Where to start detoxifying your home Infrared sauna for detoxing and sweating Detox foods The benefits of using mushrooms in blends and teas The best strategies for supporting the immune system Juicing: Is it good or bad? How to avoid Alzheimer’s becoming your destiny when it runs in your family Gluten or dairy: Which is worse? Bloating problems and how to fix them   Key Takeaways: Obesogens are chemicals that increase the number of fat cells created in the body as well as the amount of fat stored by the body. One of the easiest ways for toxins to get into our body is by taking them orally. We can have thoughts that are toxic and really cause sickness in our body. When someone is overweight, the excess weight is not the problem, it’s just a symptom of the problem. The infrared sauna is one of the most well-researched ways to detox. It’s amazing for getting out all sorts of fat-soluble compounds and even water-soluble compounds. The only way to get rid of cadmium effectively is through sweat. Foods that are great for detoxifying include raspberries, flax seed, broccoli sprout, cilantro, and parsley. Mushrooms are amazing immunomodulators. The most important thing for the immune system is sleep. If you’re not getting enough sleep, you’re more prone to colds and infections. Sugar is a huge drain on our immune system. A couple of teaspoons of sugar can depress the immune system for up to 5 hours.   Action Steps: Strategies to detoxify Get rid of any toxins that could be coming into your body before you try to detox it. Get rid of all plastic as much as possible. Make sure your food is as toxic-free and clean as possible. Optimize the five channels of elimination. Poo every day. Pee multiple times a day. Get rid of toxic thoughts. Help your two internal cleansing systems, the liver and the lymph, to do their job. Eat a diet with tons of color. Detoxify your home. Start with the bedroom. Open the window a little bit, have some indoor plants, get rid of the cell phones and the electric clocks, and get the blinds closed as much as possible. You can also get a natural mattress.   Josh said: “I eat what’s right for me in that moment, at that time, based on what my body needs… I don’t subscribe to any one specific dogma. I don’t believe in labels when it comes to food because then people get bogged down by that label and it can prevent them from healing.” “If you’re eating vegan or you’re eating paleo, you’re still eating and want to eat a ton of vegetables, which is really where all the power lies. And when in doubt, just eat broccoli.”   Thanks for listening! Important Announcements: Connect with me over on Instagram, @holisticwellnessfoodie! Did you know there are “36 holes in the roof” of your brain? Neurodegeneration has proven that Alzheimer’s is essentially caused by “36 holes in the roof” of your brain, meaning, there are 36 perpetrators and likely many, many more that lead to the diagnosis of cognitive decline and eventually, Alzheimer’s.   On this weeks show certified health coach Robyn Albaum, discusses her experience with Alzheimer’s. She shares how her new proactive business, the Alzheimer’s Alternative, along with Functional Medicine Doctors and her personal team are helping put an end to cognitive decline.  She has based her business on the findings of Dr. Dale Bredesen, an internationally recognized expert in neurodegenerative diseases, who published the scientifically proven ReCODE Protocol in a book called The End of Alzheimer’s.  ReCODE Protocol is a scientifically proven, personalized programmatic lifestyle approach for preventing and reversing cognitive decline for those with pre-Alzheimer’s disease including Subjective Cognitive Impairment (SCI) and Mild Cognitive Impairment (MCI), Early Alzheimer’s disease, and anyone who is at risk genetically. Why You Should Listen: In this episode, you will learn the factors involved in dementia and Alzheimer's and potential solutions discussed in "The End of Alzheimer's". About My Guest: My guest for this episode is Dr. Dale Bredesen.  Dale Bredesen, MD is internationally recognized as an expert in the mechanisms of neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer’s disease. He graduated from Caltech, then earned his MD from Duke University Medical Center in Durham, NC. He served as Chief Resident in Neurology at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) before joining Nobel laureate Stanley Prusiner’s laboratory at UCSF as an NIH Postdoctoral Fellow. He held faculty positions at UCSF, UCLA and the University of California, San Diego. Dr. Bredesen directed the Program on Aging at the Burnham Institute before coming to the Buck Institute in 1998 as its founding President and CEO. The uniform failure of recent drug trials in Alzheimer’s disease has highlighted the critical need for a more accurate understanding of the fundamental nature of Alzheimer’s disease. Dr. Bredesen’s research has led to new insights that explain the erosion of memory seen in Alzheimer’s disease, and these insights have opened the door to a new therapeutic approach. His book "The End of Alzheimer's: The First Program to Prevent and Reverse Cognitive Decline" was released just over a year ago and is a hopeful exploration into not only the condition, but to solutions that are helping people with Alzheimer's improve their quality of life today. Key Takeaways: - How big of a problem is Alzheimer's? - What is the role of apoE in the potential for Alzheimer's development? - What are the primary risk factors for the development of Alzheimer's? - Why is amyloid a potentially a good thing and not something to focus on removing without first addressing underlying causes? - What are the subtypes of Alzheimer's? - How does insulin sensitivity play a role om Alzheimer's? - What factors play a role in the the "Toxic" subtype 3? - What is the role of Lyme disease and mold illness in the development of Alzheimer's? - What is a "Cognoscopy" and how is it performed? - What is the "ReCode" protocol and how is treatment approached? - How are VIP and Synapsin potentially helpful in reversing cognitive decline? - Does Mast Cell Activation Syndrome play a role in the inflammation associated with Alzheimer's? - Is detoxification important in recovering cognitive function? - Which binders are helpful in supporting detoxification? - Does EMF exposure play a role in the development of Alzheimer's? Dr. Dale Bredesen, author of The End of Alzheimer's: The First Program to Prevent and Reverse Cognitive Decline, has opened my eyes to the reality of 20th Century medicine. The "monotherapeutic" approach (one magic pill to cure any condition) is no longer working... especially in the case of neurodegenerative conditions such as Alzheimer's Disease. Big Pharma has literally conducted hundreds of clinical trials and spent BILLIONS of dollars to make a magic pill for Alzheimer's.The only "successes" have little symptomatic effect and very little or NO effect on disease progression!  That is what intrigued me about his new approach. The current medical perception of how to cure AD and other neurodegenerative diseases is slowly starting to change thanks to Dr Bredesen's work. He has identified over 40 factors that can lead to cognitive decline. While it was once believed the culprit was the amyloid plaquing that was found in patients suffering with Alzheimer's, Dr Bredesen has a novel perspective. His research has shown that the plaquing is actually the brain's way of protecting the body against the 40 factors I will be discussing over the next several shows. The "American Diet" is slowly turning our population into mindless zombies. It has lead to chronic inflammation, an overprescribing of toxic drugs such as statins and blood pressure meds, and sleep apnea that often goes undiagnosed.  As an "alternative health" professional, my purpose for this podcast is to summarize Dr Bredesen's findings and guide our suffering population to the proper health coaches, alert them to the nutritional danger signs and reveal the genetic tests that can help turn around the sinking ship of monotherapeutics. As a former professional athlete, I also realized the connection of Dr Bredesen's findings to the long term effects of concussions and CTE. Please share with loved ones.
