We are surrounded by bold claims and quick fixes for ‘boosting' our immune health. But one thing the science is clear on is that everyone's immune system is unique – what is good for one person may not work well for another. So how do we separate the bogus claims from the useful advice? Head of Life Sciences and Professor of Immunology at Imperial College, Daniel Davis, helps us sort the facts from the fiction. From the genetics of immune health to the myth of Vitamin C, from evidence-backed studies on chronic stress to the gaps in knowledge on sleep and microbiome health, Daniel reveals what scientists do know for certain—and what still needs more answers—to help us make informed choices for ourselves. This episode of High Performance Health is a powerful reminder that the true path to longevity isn’t found in chasing supplement stacks or living to 160—it’s about becoming immune to aging by mastering the fundamentals. Angela sits down with Dr Jenna Macciochi, immunologist, author, and high-performance breathwork coach, to explore how chronic inflammation, lifestyle, mindset, and motherhood all shape our biological age far more than we realize. Dr Jenna's new book Immune to Age presents a revolutionary framework: understanding the immune system as a dynamic force through the seasons of life—from birth to old age. In this heartfelt, science-rich conversation, Jenna and Angela dive into everything from burnout and HRV to intuition, parenting, alcohol, and the myth of the perfect biohacking protocol. This is the longevity conversation every woman needs to hear. KEY TAKEAWAYS: Chronic Inflammation: The Silent Driver of Aging : The immune system's slow burn of inflammation is the root cause behind most chronic diseases and early aging. The Parenting Connection: Children phase-lock to their mother’s HRV—your emotional regulation teaches them how to regulate themselves. Burnout & Intuition: Ignoring your intuition and pushing through stress leads to burnout. Slowing down and listening is the real path to resilience. Longevity Isn’t Just About Data: Healthspan matters more than lifespan. Fancy tests are fun, but it’s the basics—food, movement, sleep, breath—that move the needle. Alcohol, Sleep & Energy: Giving up alcohol even temporarily can have a massive ripple effect on mood, energy, and parenting. Immune System Through the Life Course: From womb to old age, your immune system evolves—and it’s never too early or too late to care for it. Amy MacIver is joined by Professor Elizabeth Mayne, a specialist haematologist and immunopathologist at the University of Cape Town, to unpack new research revealing how our immune system is influenced by light. Can we really have more time than we think after a cancer diagnosis? In this eye-opening episode of Vitality Made Simple, Dr. Debbie Ozment, DDS, is joined by Dr. Michael Karlfeldt, ND, PhD—an expert in integrative cancer care and founder of the Karlfeldt Center. Together, they dive deep into the empowering concept of terrain theory—that by shifting your body's internal environment, you can make it less hospitable to cancer.Dr. Karlfeldt walks us through the four key pillars he outlines in his book: strengthening the immune system, optimizing nutrition, reducing inflammation, and supporting detoxification. He stresses that patients don't have to rush into conventional treatment without exploring supportive therapies that address the root cause. The conversation highlights the profound impact of mindset and emotional state on immunity, along with specific nutrients and immune-boosting compounds like Vitamin C, zinc, medicinal mushrooms (Reishi, Cordyceps, Turkey Tail, Maitake), Beta Glucans, and herbs such as Andrographis and Astragalus. Dr. Karlfeldt emphasizes that these tools support the immune system rather than deplete it—unlike traditional treatments that often leave patients weak and vulnerable.Dr. Karlfeldt also debunks the sugar-cancer myth, explaining that while cancer cells thrive on sugar, many oncologists lack the nutritional training to give accurate dietary guidance. Cutting sugar, he says, isn't just about cancer—it's also about reducing inflammation, boosting cellular energy, and enhancing immune response.Listeners will also get a crash course in ozone therapy, a lesser-known but powerful treatment that enhances immune function and cellular energy. Dr. Karlfeldt details several administration methods and how ozone can oxidize pathogens, rev up mitochondria, and reduce inflammation. Dr. Ozment even shares her personal success with ozone therapy in managing chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL).To wrap up, Dr. Karlfeldt reframes cancer as the body's way of managing toxic overload, likening tumors to a “garbage dump.” Instead of only attacking the tumor, he emphasizes the importance of opening detox pathways—through the liver, lymphatic system, skin, lungs, colon, and kidneys—to clear the internal terrain and set the stage for true healing.Visit my website DrDebbieOzment.com for valuable free downloads. Welcome back to the second part of the Aevum Labs Series on Immune Health! In this episode, we sit down with Dr. Elizabeth Yurth, founder of the Boulder Longevity Institute, to explore the fascinating world of immunosenescence—the ageing of the immune system—and its connection to inflammaging, chronic inflammation that accelerates aging. Dr. Yurth explains how the decline of our immune system not only affects our resilience to infections but also plays a pivotal role in the development of chronic diseases, neurodegeneration, and overall cellular decline. We dive into how gut health, immune health, and cellular health are deeply interconnected, with 70–80% of our immune system residing in and around the gut. Learn how chronic systemic inflammation and gut permeability can break down your immune defenses and how you can turn back the clock on immune ageing. We also introduce our exciting new product developed in conjunction with Dr Yurth as a scientific advisor, from Aevum Labs—Rejuvenate—which is specifically designed to target immune decline, support cellular health, and reduce chronic inflammation. Dr. Yurth explains how the ingredients in Rejuvenate help restore immune vitality, protect brain health, and improve gut barrier integrity. Key Topics Discussed: What is immunosenescence? Understanding how and why our immune system declines with age. The link between chronic systemic inflammation (inflammaging) and ageing—why targeting inflammation is essential for longevity. The gut-immune connection: Why 70–80% of your immune system resides in the gut and how gut health affects brain health and systemic inflammation. Practical strategies to combat immune aging, from diet and lifestyle interventions to cutting-edge supplements.

Is Vitamin C really the immune-boosting miracle it's often claimed to be? In this episode of the Primal Shift podcast, we explore whether it's overhyped and ineffective, or something you should actually consider adding to your supplement stack. While this powerful antioxidant is crucial for your body's defenses and supports collagen production, skin health and cellular repair, its effectiveness isn't as clear-cut as many believe. After all, while research shows that high doses of Vitamin C can slightly reduce the duration of colds, there's little evidence that it prevents them entirely. Plus, the source of your Vitamin C matters. Whole food sources like citrus fruits and organ meats often outperform synthetic supplements because they come with cofactors that improve vitamin absorption and utilization. If you're following a nutrient-dense, animal-based diet, your Vitamin C needs may already be lower, as such diets reduce oxidative stress and limit the competition between carbs and Vitamin C for absorption. But true immune health doesn't rely on one nutrient alone; it's built on daily habits that support your body's natural defenses. Sunlight exposure for Vitamin D, cold plunging to activate shock proteins, and sauna bathing to repair cells are just a few examples of powerful tools to keep your immune system functioning optimally. Pairing these practices with regular exercise, quality sleep, and an animal-based diet creates a holistic approach to staying healthy, even during cold and flu season. For me, freeze-dried organ supplements fill in any nutritional gaps when fresh organ meats aren't available. Packed with immune-supporting nutrients like zinc, selenium, and Vitamin A, they're an easy way to supercharge your diet. And while Vitamin C can play a supporting role in immune health, it's not a standalone solution. Focusing on nutrient-dense foods and consistent daily habits will always have a bigger impact on your overall well-being. So, does Vitamin C work? Yes, but the bigger takeaway is that health is about the whole picture, not just one supplement. By building strong foundations with your diet and lifestyle, you can support your body's natural ability to thrive year-round.
