For this show, we have a returning guest, night photographer Ken Lee. I've known Ken for awhile, and the way he ended up as a guest for the show Capturing the Slowing of Time is one of my fave Behind the Shot stories. Ken Lee, along with being an accomplished photographer, is also a regular watcher, or listener, of Behind the Shot. Years ago, when I was giving away Red River Paper Sample Packs, Ken was one of the winners. He also won the How to Build Real Influence e-course from Trey Ratcliff and Lauren Bath. As I did with every winner, I checked out Ken's work at that time and made a mental note I wanted to get him on the show, but I got sidetracked. One of the downsides of only doing a show on your own is that potential guests back up quickly. Then, when I was at The NAMM Show in Anaheim CA back in 2020, I met up with another Behind the Shot watcher (or listener - I really need to find an easier way to get through that variable), Mike Martin of Casio. Mike is great guy, and we had fun chatting in-between him actually working. Next thing I knew, Mike tagged me in a tweet to tell me about a friend of his that he thought would be a good guest on the show. This friend had just released a new book, and the cover image was awesome. When I saw the name on the cover I had to do a double take, it was Ken's book! Well, Ken has another new book out, Abandoned Roadside Attractions: Under a Southwest Moon (Abandoned Union), and once again we need to chat about the cover shot. I introduced Ken above as a "night photographer", which isn't a genre you hear often, so let me let him explain: "I drive long hours in a dusty car listening to weird music, stay out all night creating photos, get dirty, hang out with other creative sleep-deprived weirdos, see the stars drift across the sky, and always find the best taco stands." Let me interrupt Ken for a second. I need to know the names of some those taco stands Ken. You need to write that up somewhere. Sorry for the break... back to Ken... "I have been exploring the Southwestern United States as well as parts of the East Coast for over nine years, brandishing a camera, tripod, and colored flashlight. I especially love creating night photos of abandoned historical places, unique features, and beautiful landscapes. These are experiences that I absolutely cherish." I mentioned Ken is an accomplished photographer, and I meant it. His images have appeared in outlets like NatGeo.com, National Geographic Books, Omni Magazine, The Los Angeles Times, Westways Magazine, and numerous other publications. Alex Skolnick first became well known as the guitarist for Testament. Alex is not just a speed player however, and has a broad interest in different musical styles. He can certainly shred with the best of them, but there are many flavors to his playing. Alex joins us by phone to discuss one of his bands, Metal Allegiance, who have a live show coming up on January 23, 2025 in Anaheim California. Bruno has a cool story throughout his cannabis career that led him to be one of the biggest names on the professional joint rolling scene! Growing up in Anaheim CA, Bruno started smoking tree as a young buck and getting into trouble with his sister. In 2010, Bruno and his mom started the first delivery service in Tuolomne County during the early Weedmaps days. That delivery is still in existence to this day! Another fun fact, before getting into the rolling game, Bruno and his girlfriend had a breakup and he wound up working in the Porn industry for a while. As far as the rolling goes, it's seems to be a common theme here… Someone needs a couple hundred joints rolled, you take the job, and someone else now needs a couple hundred joints rolled and BOOM you're a roller! Well that person that employed Bruno to do those first couple hundred rolls, convinced him that he should do it for a living if that's what he loves to do! Fast-forward, now Bruno has his own team (big up the squad), he's hired literally all over the world to roll joints for some of the biggest brands in the cannabis world. He is truly living his dreams and passion and it's exciting to see. Not to mention, he bars up joints in a tux like a gentleman! Send us a Text Message.When Greg Wallis was hired at Tower Tacoma by Dave Coker, Greg had never heard of Tower Records. It was simply the big, new record store to move into his town. When Coker left to open and run the Seattle U District store, Rob Bruce came up from Anaheim CA to be General Manager. By this time, Greg was the buyer for all sections of music except for Classical Music. Soon after, Assistant Manger Bob Akin went to Sacramento to join the Advertising Department and Greg was promoted to Assistant Manager. Stints in Hawaii, the opening of the Boston store, working countless A-Teams until Clark Street Chicago opened and his promotion to Midwest/Southeast Regional Manager were all a part of Greg's Tower experiences. Greg touches on the excitement of the Blues scene in Chicago as well as the challenges of running a record store off the mainland where timely deliveries are essential to success.But something about his time in Boston made for some memorable stories. On this episode, Greg recounts the tales of Morris Levy, whom he and his crew dealt with around the opening and first year of operations in Boston. Also, if you've never heard the story of Greg's instore with Robyn Hitchcock and Hitchcock's ridiculous behavior beforehand, Greg recounts it from his perspective. The fact that Hitchcock continues to write about it on his Facebook page, decades later, proves Greg acted appropriately at such childish shenanigans. And….this is our 100th episode. On Sept. 5, 1986, Sanjay was onboard Pan Am Flight 73. It was hijacked by the PLO in Karachi, Pakistan. Sanjay survived, but was seriously injured, including subsequently undergoing the amputation of a leg. His cousin was the first person killed by the hijackers. 22 people died.
