Anne was crowned queen on 1 June 1533. On 7 September, she gave birth to the future Queen Elizabeth I. Henry was disappointed to have a daughter, but hoped a son would follow and professed to love Elizabeth. Anne subsequently had three miscarriages and by March 1536, Henry was courting Jane Seymour. Henry had Anne investigated for high treason in April 1536. On 2 May, she was arrested and sent to the Tower of London, where she was tried before a jury, including Henry Percy, her former betrothed, and her uncle Thomas Howard, 3rd Duke of Norfolk. She was convicted on 15 May and beheaded four days later. Historians view the charges, which included adultery, incest with her brother George, and plotting to kill the king, as unconvincing. Wiki

Though the recurring theme today was cheating, it was also cheating that brought us (and by us I mean Angi and our own collective amusement,) into the wonderful (see: nerd, loser, dork) world of LARPing. After talking to roadie Paul, who dressed up like a male fairy (fairy is a non binary word,) to appease the woman he was cheating on his ex wife with. As you probably should have guessed/expected/known, Angi was completely enthralled with LARPing after that and she went about attempting to learn all she could about it. Now, this is a pulled together piece of ideas because I could discuss Angi watching LARPing porn with Marris but again, that was to be expected. Upon understanding what LARPing is and avoiding an aneurysm, Angi decided that she may want to LARP. Her first idea was Jake from State Farm but she switched it up to the more proper Ann Boleyn. Now, she was unsure if she had sword skills but she did ride her horse like a whore (with her thighs, none of that side saddle nonsense,) and so shoe/fits, etc. As I said above, Angi went on Pornhub during commercial and song breaks and also played us a snippet of an orgy on air (minus the fun sex) but I am proud to say the roadies did offer her costume ideas on the Request Line. She was told to do Game of Thrones, Fembot, Vikings character Lagertha the ShieldMaiden, The Devil and April O'Neil. That last was dismissed only because she would ruin the fantasy for Marris. We capped our LARP adventure (in this section, it continued to seep into the show,) which Angi learning that LARPing meetups may not have a lot of hot guys but if she drinks enough mead, she could get them up a notch. Unfortunately, she spent most of her life doing that so I don't think it will work.

“In one sense, it's a state initiative, but in the other sense it's actually preserving rights of individuals against the state.”Rohan Grey is back with us for the seventh time. In this episode, he talks to Steve about the ECASH Act, which he helped craft as a step toward creating public digital dollars with the privacy and anonymity of physical cash. To explain the features this future currency requires, and the problems to be solved, Rohan takes us on a tour of the history of money, early record-keeping devices for the tax collector, and the development of banking. Tally sticks, which were broken in half (to be matched later) were primitive encryption keys. Further noteworthy events include the invention of the telegraph in the mid-1800s, the codebreaking and Navajo language speakers during World War II, and the cyberpunks of the 1980s. Rohan is an evocative storyteller, piquing our imagination with vivid references. By the end of the episode, he has mentioned five movies, plus Scrooge McDuck, Seinfeld, Henry VIII and Ann Boleyn. Oh, and Emma Goldman. Steve and Rohan sort through objections to the privacy we should demand of public digital currency. Arguments come from right, left, and libertarian factions, each believing their bogeymen will be free to do nefarious things under cover of anonymity. They put their faith in private entities. Digital public money would address the needs of populations who cannot or will not use banks. It can be accessed without an internet connection, and it is easy to see the benefits assured privacy provides to political dissidents, sex workers... and everyone else living under the gaze of surveillance capitalism. We have learned about the war on cash from our friend Bret Scott. It is time to fight back. Rohan Grey is an Assistant Professor of Law at Willamette Professor of Law at Willamette University in Salem, Oregon, and the founder and president of the Modern Money Network. @rohangrey on Twitter

--- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/radiownet/message

Il castello di Kenilworth (or, under its original name in 1829, Elisabetta al castello di Kenilworth) is a melodramma serio or tragic opera in three acts by Gaetano Donizetti. Andrea Leone Tottola wrote the Italian libretto after Victor Hugo's play Amy Robsart (1828) and Eugene Scribe's play Leicester, both of which following from Scott's novel Kenilworth (1821). Daniel Auber composed another opera on the same subject, Leicester, ou Le chateau de Kenilworth in 1823. This opera was the first of Donizetti's excursions into the Tudor period of English history, and it was followed in 1830 by Anna Bolena, (which was based on the life of Ann Boleyn, the second wife of King Henry VIII), then by Maria Stuarda (named for Mary, Queen of Scots) which appeared in different forms in 1834 and 1835. All represented the interests (even obsessions) of many Italian composers of the era, Donizetti's included, in the character of Elizabeth I, whose life he was to explore further in 1837 in his opera Roberto Devereux (named for a putative lover of Queen Elizabeth I.) The leading female characters of the operas Anna Bolena, Maria Stuarda, and Roberto Devereux are often referred to as the "Three Donizetti Queens." As Elisabetta al castello di Kenilworth the opera received its first performance on 6 July 1829 at the Teatro San Carlo, Naples and, in a revised version at the same house, as Il castello di Kenilworth on 24 June 1830. Who is Kathy Nagler:  Kathy began her career after being told again and again that her voice could make anything sound funny. With her ultra-dry delivery, she was billed as the female Ben Stein. But over the years, she has expanded her repertoire to include the not-so-funny, and the deep-breathed sexy. Kathy is an accomplished improviser and standup comedian, and has lent her unique talents to cartoons, commercials, short films, and even at a ride at Disneyland. But wherever you hear her, she’s unmistakably Kathy.   Who is Anne Boleyn: Anne Boleyn was Queen of England from 1533 to 1536 as the second wife of King Henry VIII. Their marriage, and her execution by beheading made her a key figure in the political and religious upheaval that was the start of the English Reformation.

Queen Elizabeth I - daughter of Henry VIII and Ann Boleyn - reigned from 1558 to 1603 as Queen of England. Elizabeth was not the first woman to rule as Queen in her own right, but she is perhaps one of the most historically significant English sovereigns of all time. Elizabeth never married, preferring instead to rule alone under the moniker ‘The Virgin Queen’, but she was linked to many potential suitors, both domestic and foreign. Elizabeth - a Protestant - reversed the Catholic religious policies imposed by her sister, initially opting for a ‘Middle Way’ but taking a more hardline approach to Catholics after the Pope excommunicated her in 1570. Clearly, there were a number of potential threats to Elizabeth, the Spanish Armada in 1588 being one of them. However, other challenges such as the arrival of Mary Queen of Scots in England, the domestic rise of Puritanism and a number of Catholic lead plots to topple her present challenges, too. In this Podcast, the @VersusHistory Editorial Team analyse these threats to Queen Elizabeth in light of their historical context and offer a range of analysis, insight and supporting historiography to support the discussion.
