The Boleyn sisters were red-hot English socialites in the early 1500s. Their rise and fall, one as the mistress of King Henry the Eighth and one as his queen, was shocking even by the standards of the time. Why did a bishop call one of them the “most infamous whore of all”? How did they catch the king? And how did they lose him, along with one of their heads? It is a modern retelling of the lives of the six wives of Henry VIII, presented in the form of a pop concert. In the show, each of the wives (Catherine of Aragon, Anne Boleyn, Jane Seymour, Anne of Cleves, Katherine Howard, and Catherine Parr) take turns telling their story to determine who suffered the most from their common husband. The musical was premiered at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe in 2017, where it was performed by students from Cambridge University. Six premiered on the West End in January 2019, and has since embarked on a UK tour. An Australian production opened at the Sydney Opera House in January 2020. It premiered on Broadway in March 2020 and, following a hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic, officially opened at the Brooks Atkinson Theatre on 3 October 2021.[6] Two North American tours, dubbed the "Aragon" and "Boleyn" tours, began in 2022. Singin' in the Rain is a 1952 American musical romantic comedy film directed and choreographed by Gene Kelly and Stanley Donen, starring Kelly, Donald O'Connor, and Debbie Reynolds and featuring Jean Hagen, Millard Mitchell and Cyd Charisse. It offers a lighthearted depiction of Hollywood in the late 1920s, with the three stars portraying performers caught up in the transition from silent films to "talkies". The film was only a modest hit when it was first released. O'Connor won the Golden Globe Award for Best Actor – Motion Picture Musical or Comedy, and Betty Comden and Adolph Green won the Writers Guild of America Award for their screenplay, while Jean Hagen was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress. However, it has since been accorded legendary status by contemporary critics, and is often regarded as the greatest musical film ever made and one of the greatest films ever made,[2] as well as the greatest film made in the "Freed Unit" at Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer. It topped the AFI's Greatest Movie Musicals list and is ranked as the fifth-greatest American motion picture of all time in its updated list of the greatest American films in 2007. In this special episode, Dr. Owen Emmerson joins us to talk about his amazing career as a cultural historian and assistant curator of Hever Castle (Anne Boleyn's childhood home).  As a Boleyn and Tudor history expert, you may recognize him from shows such as Netflix's Blood, Sex & Royalty, BBC's Who Do You Think You Are and The Boleyns: A Scandalous Family,  along with multiple other shows on the BBC, HistoryHit, Amazon, etc. He is also the co-author of four books, his newest being Holbein's Latest Gem.Dr. Emmerson and his fellow curators at Hever Castle recently made a remarkable discovery: finding and identifying Thomas Cromwell's Book of Hours. Experts at Hever Castle - the childhood home of Anne Boleyn - have made an extraordinary discovery. They've established that an ornate 1527 prayer book — kept in a Cambridge library for more than 350 years — belonged to Henry VIII's Chief Minister Thomas Cromwell and appears in Holbein's portrait of him. Identical books were also owned by Catherine of Aragon and Anne Boleyn. In today's episode of Not Just the Tudors, Professor Suzannah Lipscomb goes to Hever Castle to find out more. This episode was produced by Rob Weinberg.Discover the past on History Hit with ad-free original podcasts and documentaries released weekly presented by world renowned historians including Dan Snow, Suzannah Lipscomb, Lucy Worsley, Matt Lewis, Tristan Hughes and more. A három napja a Saul fia örököseként méltatott The Zone of Interest után itt egy újabb tökéletesen hidegrázós alakítást láthatunk Sandra Hüllertől. The Zone of Interest továbbra is a legnagyobb Arany Pálma-esélyes. Csalódást okozott viszont az Acide című katasztrófafilm éjféli vetítése. A műfaji filmeket rendre versenyen kívülre száműzik (a két éve Arany Pálmát nyert Titán volt a kivétel), de ezen most azért sem lepődtünk meg, mert Just Philippot öt évvel ezelőtti rövidfilmjét hiába bővítette egész estéssé, a végeredmény gyengébb lett. A klímaváltozás miatt kialakuló, mindent elpusztító savas eső remek kiindulópont, de a logikai bakik és a folyton leülő történetvezetés miatt az Acide nyomába sem érhet például egy The Last of Us-epizódnak. Filmek, amiket hétfőn néztünk: Firebrand (Karim Aïnouz) Anatomy of a Fall (Justine Triet) Acide (Just Philippot) Jó szórakozást hozzá, és ha tetszik az adás, kérlek támogasd a Filmklub podcastot a Patreonon, ahol beállíthatod, hogy havonta hány dollárt szeretnél erre szánni. Jane Boleyn, sister-in-law of Queen Anne Boleyn and wife of George Boleyn, found herself embroiled in the dangerous politics of the Tudor court. Following the execution of George and Anne for treason in 1536, Jane managed to navigate the treacherous world of Tudor politics and maintain a position in each successive queen's household. However, her association with Katheryn Howard ultimately led to her downfall, and she was executed alongside the queen in 1542. Jane's story is a cautionary tale about the perils of power and ambition in the Tudor court. I had the pleasure of speaking with Dr. James Taffe about his new book, Courting Scandal: The Rise and Fall of Jane Boleyn, Lady Rochford. During our conversation, we delved into the intricacies of the Tudor royal household and the role that Jane played in it. I learned so much from our discussion, and it gave me a greater appreciation for the fascinating and complex world of Tudor history. Commercial FREE for patrons! Love the Tudors?
