In this episode, we continue our 4-week series on short-term missions and their impact on the local church. Today we're looking at a ministry that's near and dear to the heart of our church: the ministry of Joni & Friends. This organization was founded by author, Joni Eareckson Tada, to "accelerate Christian ministry in the disability community." Every year they run retreat camps that offer special needs families opportunities for spiritual and emotional renewal.Liberty Bible Church has been sending short-term teams to these camps for a number of years. Every team that we send comes back transformed by the power of serving in an inclusive, loving environment. Today we get the privilege of speaking with two individuals who served on this year's Joni & Friends team: Bethany Thomas and Misty Spanburg. For more information about the ministry of Joni & Friends, visit their website at www.joniandfriends.org.Go! Actor/Singer/Songwriter, Bethany Thomas, kicks off Season 2 with memorable moments from her youth theatre days in Kenosha, WI, to balancing a life in the Theatre with an ever evolving music career.
Hope you're in for some chip talk, and we don't mean Cool Ranch. This week our main topic concerns silicon chips - semiconductors, microprocessors, and integrated circuits, their unprecedented shortage in almost every device we use, and (perhaps) the forthcoming analog revolution. Also discussed: a super neat pair of shows with Bethany Thomas, Tawny Newsome, and Ted Leo, positive gear deals, Trent Reznor blasting through Les Pauls, new Focusrite interfaces, the Moog Model 15 app, an updated Klon KTR, Joy Division, Fender Play partnering with Barbie, and Johnny Marr's wild 9-pickup Strat. No chunky flops.
Our guest this episode is an acting/singing/song writing bad ass. We chat about making her own understudy role as a child, what it's like writing and recording an album with Tawny Newsome in three weeks, and HOLY CRAP SHE'S PLAYING 10 CHARACTERS IN ONE SHOW?!
"I'm happy to be able to step outside of what a whole group of people usually know about me and do something different" - Bethany Thomas The Rap Pack [GQ, JQ, Jax & Pos] have a funny, enlightening and irreverently funny conversation with the genre breaking tour de force that is Bethany Thomas. GQ dubs her a "straight up box breaker" and that newly appointed moniker is proven to be more than appropriate as the Pack discusses Bethany's work in the world of music and theater. The conversation shifts from her constantly evolving sound, her ability to sound gritty and hifi simultaneously, the two critically lauded albums she dropped in 2020 - a solo effort and a collaboration w/ partner Tawny Newsome - and her (humble brag) friendship with Mr. Ted Leo. Plus, Bethany and Pos go h.a.m. on a thread involving songs that mention 'radio', which BT then makes a Spotify playlist out of. She aptly takes the prize with a seriously choice 80's jam that's all about turning a radio on and losing control. Download/Stream this weeks song, here. To quote Bethany during the making of this weeks song, "Fugazi meets Devo is a great place to start :)" --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/therappack/support
Welcome to Tuesday Night Live with The Rap Pack Podcast. Hosted by the members of band - GQ, JQ, Jax & Pos. TNL is equal parts in-depth artist interview, deep-dive studio session and a 'shoot the sh*t' hangout with hilarious friends. For the 6 weeks of TNL: Season 3, the Pack invite a different extraordinary musician - stretching the gamut of music genres - and create a fresh, mind-bending and bangin' collaboration. The resulting song by the end of each episode can only be described as experimental hip hop, quite literally shape shifting rap into new forms of the music. This seasons guest are: DJ Supernova, Menna, Bethany Thomas, Babe-alon 5, Ronobir Lahiri and NOTE Tha Rydah. 'Follow' and tune in each week to see what they cook up. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/therappack/support

Why Not Both is an exploration of how our multiple passions shape our identity, hosted by musician and therapist Pam Shaffer and produced by writer and photographer Laura Studarus. For our third season, we partnered up with Under The Radar to explore the lives of musicians, writers, actors, and creatives. We caught up with Tawny Newsome and Bethany Thomas to chat about their brilliant album Material Flats and how life was treating these two talented multi-hyphenates. While they were lucky and got to record the album together earlier this year, these two have spent the better part of 2020 having virtual television show premieres, navigating online theater, and learning when to take a moment to pause. From learning to engineer their own record to putting out podcasts, we are glad that they are taking a cue from the indoor kids on how to create during these strange times. Thanks again for listening! Make sure to subscribe, leave us a nice review, and hang out with us on Insta and Twitter. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/why-not-both/support
Can you believe how good the show has gotten lately. Total semi-pros; honestly not sure how long we can keep this up. Today is yet another high-water mark as we welcome Hank’s old friend and our newest bud Bethany Thomas to the GB team.An accomplished and celebrated theater actress, BT has also put out TWO sick records during lockdown, the solo release “BT/She/Her” and collaboration “Material Flats” with Tawny Newsome. We discuss her history and musical journey, hanging out with Hank at her *baller* 25th birthday party, the mental shift between acting and performing music, less orange/more purple, and calling Ted Leo for guitar solos. Also discussed: Daredevil Pedals’ British Black Belt pedal release and video, Boss HM-2 Waza, Moog Claravox, Softube Saturation Knob, Camel Crusher, Van Morrison and Eric Clapton going peak boomer, goofy Craigslisters, the new Bowie biopic, and other wholly unnecessary films.Put a good Bowie record on and just get to mashin’.

This Must Be the Gig is joined by Tawny Newsome and Bethany Thomas. You may know Tawny as one of the stars of TV shows like Bajillion Dollar Propertie$, Star Trek: Lower Decks, and Space Force, as well as the co-host of Yo, Is This Racist? and a frequent guest of podcasts like Comedy Bang Bang. You may know Bethany, meanwhile, for her celebrated musical and theatrical work on Chicago stages such as Steppenwolf and the Green Mill, performing everything from a Gershwin opera to alt country. Before all that, Tawny and Bethany spent years together in Chicago as for-hire backup singers for tribute and cover bands, forging an intense friendship and musical connection, including time as members of UK punk hero John Langford's Four Lost Souls. This week, Tawny and Bethany's long history of collaboration culminates in their first album under their own names, the explosive and magnetic Material Flats. In this chat, Lior spoke with Tawny and Bethany about chasing their own sound after supporting other voices for years, how their passion for music thrives alongside acting careers, the influence of Devo and the Talking Heads, the difference between recording dialog for Star Trek: Lower Decks and recording music (hint: tequila is involved), and so much more. Chicago singer-songwriter Bethany Thomas is a little bit country and a little bit rock and roll — and a little punk and maybe a little bit of soul, too. The multi-talented artist recently dropped her debut genre-busting album BT/She/Her, which offers a little something for everyone. Reset sits down with Thomas to discuss the message behind her new album and how quarantining affects how she produces music.

Hey! We had 1000 downloads a month! Also, Country Queer Spotlight is live now! Listen to my interview of Jaime Wyatt! Also also, I had to scratch the first artist I planned to play because I couldn’t get a hold of those mp3s after all. Hopefully the edit isn’t too weird! Album of the Week: Bethany Thomas -- BT/SHE/HER This album is a masterpiece. Thomas, who has played with Jon Langford (hence her connection to Bloodshot Records), is also a classical musician, plays jazz...pretty much everything. No matter what the song sounds like, though, Thomas absolutely RIPS on guitar. Her songs are beautiful, too, relating the life of a queer black person in the Midwest with skill and grace. The album is confident and bold and one of the best this year. The Writers Theatre production of Stephen Sondheim and James Lapine's Into The Woods combines professional artistry with community theatre charm to create a very immediate and powerful version of this popular musical. Directed by Gary Griffin, one of the world's leading interpreters of Sondheim, the cast features McKinley Carter as Jack's Mother, Brianna Borger as the Baker's Wife, and Bethany Thomas as the Witch, all of whom discuss the challenges of going into the Woods multiple times and making new discoveries every time you do. Featuring impertinent references to The Fantasticks; doing the Lord’s work; creating characters instead of types; heightening the immediacy and stakes; the danger of gateway Sondheim drugs; Borscht Belt energy; and an emphasis on the frequently-fraught (“fraught than I thought,” to quote another Sondheim show) relationships between parents and children. She went from an art major to working with college students—and then she left her job to go back to the pottery wheel. Today I’m interviewing ceramics artist Bethany Thomas! I love her story because she gave herself permission to pursue art, detaching from the results because of her soul's need to create. We’re talking about how to stop running from imperfection and embrace it instead, what it means to speak the “language of creativity” and the power of giving yourself grace in seasons of burnout.
