This week Sam is out but Justin and Lupita are in! Andrew and his roommates watched Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story. Join us as we talk about the other movies that inspired us to watch Walk Hard like Ray, Walk The Line and of course Bohemian Rhapsody. We talk about Popstar and other spoof movies and we ask the question: Do music biopics need to die?
The boys spill all their beans after watching The Lighthouse! Those beans include their thoughts on dissing your own movie, if Dafoe can get an Oscar, BoRhap, how bad that house smelled, Under The Silver Lake, a new bio for the podcast, and just how good this film is. Sam is hungover and Andrew tells him how to goof. Art by: Randi Hamel @artbunns on Instagram and rannibuns.tumblr.com
The day is finally here. After waiting two and a half months since the test screening, Brendan can finally see Rocketman again. The brothers Walsh discuss the musical biopic of Sir Elton John, also keeping in mind the themes of the Ray Bradbury story "The Rocket Man", the inspiration for the song. Does this movie show up BoRhap? Will it be our favorite film of the year? Time will tell!

Inside jokes get started in this one. ***This is a Non-Spoiler Episode*** Though again, there’s a veiled reference to Hereditary, & you can eventually follow the breadcrumbs to some spoilers. Intro / It’s Horse-Race Time - Top of the Show Globes Fallout: Bohemian Backlash - 2:03 Elsie Fisher Improperly Targeted - 9:02 (And the Bryan Singer Outcry - 10:29 What to make of the Ratings? - 18:57 The Guild Nominations: Cinema Audio Society (Sound Mixing) - 22:31 Writer’s Guild (Adapted & Original Screenplay) - 26:10 Society of Cinematographers - 31:22 Art Directors Guild (Production Design) - 35:55 The ACE Eddies (Film Editing) - 38:12 Directors Guild - 41:50 Producers Guild - 46:17 Upcoming Award Shows Schedule - 50:57 Outro / Social Media / Words of Wisdom - 53:15 One minute we’re joking around. The next, we’re asking deep questions, and in between all that, we’re dissecting all the latest award season winners and noms. So it’s pretty much just another episode of MMO, right? Well yes, but we also haven’t had this many Oscar Race developments in such a short amount of time yet this season. Therefore, we’re devoting several pods this week to the race, and we’ll be back with our usual formats, our MMOW’s and OSP’s as we finish out the week. The BAFTA’s & Critics Choice episode will be next. In the meantime, here’s our massive recap of all the Guild noms and Globes fallout. We do begin where we last left off on MMO. The Golden Globes shook up awards season, and there’s just too much fallout to ignore. There could be a major backlash coming BoRhap’s way, if we and our best friend we’ve never met, Scott Feinberg of The Hollywood Reporter have this story pegged. Then we dive into the Elsie Fisher Tweet-pocalypse on Sunday night and all the major questions that arose from such a firestorm, and we finish with an analysis of the Golden Globes TV ratings. The Guilds have spoken now, and we rundown all of the major nominees, compare them to the Oscar favorites, and update the race accordingly. Which guilds seem to translate to the eventual Academy picks? Which guilds do not have much of a historic connection to Oscar winners? Were you aware of all these documentaries getting nominations as we were not? We break it all down and hope for your feedback in this segment. We finish up with a look at the long term awards season schedule. So stay tuned as we’ll have that Critics Choice Preview / BAFTA nomination reaction episode coming to you all next. Then we’ll continue our Oscar Sprint Profile series as we aim to review all of the major contenders. We are nearing forty 2018 films covered on the year, and of course, we’ll have reactions to all the big award shows to come. The Golden Globes officially kicked off the start of the red carpets, and we’re wearing our tuxes on our logo. As Mike 1 said at the top of the show, it’s race time. As always, let us know what you think. We’re Mike, Mike, and Oscar on Instagram, Reddit, Facebook, and Gmail. We are @MMandOscar on Twitter, and you can find us just about wherever you may listen to podcasts. If you can leave us a 5-star rating or write us a review on iTunes, we’d also greatly appreciate it. In any event, thank you for listening. When reality sucks, keep watching movies with us. We’re Mike, Mike, and Oscar!
There's so much to talk about with this week's guest, a true Hollywood anomaly. John Ottman is an editor AND a film score composer. His latest project is the smash hit Bohemian Rhapsody, just nominated for two Golden Globes and no-doubt short-listed for some Oscar noms. Paul & Adam go deep on BoRhap and try their best to cover the rest of John's career, which includes...a lot - Superman Returns, X2: X-Men United (+Days of Future Past & Apocalypse), The Usual Suspects, The Cable Guy, Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, The Nice Guys and more!
