Episode 437 features an interview with singer, songwriter and producer Max Frost, whose voice and tunes you probably know from a few different contexts.  Max grabbed a guitar at the age of eight and never put it down. He achieved his first taste of virality with singles “White Lies” and “Adderall,” paving the way for his full-length debut Gold Rush in 2018. The standout “Good Morning” scored a slew of syncs, including Pepsi, ESPN, CBS, Shameless, Grey's Anatomy, The War With Grandpa, and American Idol. He emerged as the rare presence who could share the stage with artists including Gary Clark, JR. and Fitz and The Tantrums or Panic! At The Disco and Twenty One Pilots. Between packing headline shows, he delivered show-stopping performances on Good Morning America and Live! With Kelly and Ryan. He even found himself in the studio with none other than Sir Elton John. His sudden TikTok stardom (500k followers) also shines a light on a different talent of Max's charming, idiosyncratic use of short-form content, personality, and pure musical talent. Max escaped Los Angeles and put down roots in Nashville where he is readying his newest EP Shelby Ave., Pt. 1, which comes out in February.

Episode 577 - Top Ten 90s Emo Bands Part 1 w/Ryan Stockstad

The sound of what we've come to know as "emo" from the insane popularity of bands like Fall Out Boy, My Chemical Romance and Panic! At The Disco in the 2000s differs pretty wildly from the sound of the bands that spawned the genre. 90s emo is a particular brand of emo - much more moody, more lo-fi, more rooted in punk, hardcore, new wave, and bands like Fugazi. In large part thanks to Nirvana, little scenes began popping up all over small town America throughout the 90s, and seemingly random outcroppings like Boise, ID Mesa, AZ, Kansas City, MO and Milwaukee, WI became hotbeds of guitar driven heart-on-sleeve bands made up of kids getting in touch with their emotions while bashing out some cathartic rock n roll. You didn't have to be there, but it helps and this week's guest was right in the thick of it back in the day as was your humble host. Ryan Stockstad makes his long-awaited return to the pod to take a trip down memory lane with a kick ass soundtrack.Ryan's got some fun stuff for you on Youtube if you like movies and such:Halloween Horror Picks:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QVRiDw73ddw&list=PLi45zQyp9B6FkqCHlxqndk3iLU0qEOx5MMacon County Movie Club:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zn17pT_AS4U&list=PLjWAPdF9m6GnMCJRNiwcRp0lxd8voWfvqFind Ryan on the socials:https://www.instagram.com/hollywoodpsychic/

FREE FRIENDS,  the explosive pop punk trio, consisting of Husband and Wife Ben and Lauren DeHan along with drummer Gil Perez, have taken the scene by storm with their jaw-dropping set of songs. Collaborating with industry heavyweights like Matt Malpass (blink-182, Magnolia Park), Matt Squire (Panic! At The Disco), and Sam Pura (State Champs), they've created a unique sound that falls somewhere between blink-182 and Waterparks, accompanied by cello…The brainchild of Ben DeHan, a musician with a DIY work ethic and a love for the pop punk music he grew up with, began after taking a hiatus from the music business. At that time Ben emerged as a solo artist, collaborating with his now wife and fellow musician, Lauren DeHan, who added her cello skills to the mix. The result was a unique sound with an authenticity that can only be earned as a kid who saw the country through the window of a 15 passenger van and the urgency of a man who has seen the inside of a cubicle. Thanks for listening!!! We had the pleasure of interviewing Sam Hollander Zoom video!Sam Hollander has spent thirty years trudging through the peaks and valleys of a songwriting career. Before he was stacking Billboard hits, he was piling up bad luck, calamitous flops, false starts, and feeling like the world was moving on and up without him while he spun in place. Now he wears his failures like a badge of honor. In 21-Hit Wonder, he's collected anecdotes from his weird waltzes around the banquet of pop to help aspiring songwriters and other creatives learn about survival, endurance, scheming, hustle, and the importance of laughing even on the worst days of the journey. Music lovers spanning generations and genres will find stories about many of their heroes and industry icons. 21-Hit Wonder is one part chronicle of a songwriter's storied career and another part love letter to anyone who has been counted out—from no-hit wonders and one-hit wonders to the novelties and the never-beens—and just needs a bit of inspiration to persevere. Sam's inspiring story is proof that setbacks are just steps on the road to success. As one of the most renowned multi-platinum selling songwriters and producers in the game, SAM HOLLANDER has written and produced for the likes of Panic! At The Disco, One Direction, Katy Perry, Weezer, Def Leppard, blink-182, Fitz and the Tantrums, Train, Ringo Starr, Carole King, Tyga, The O'Jays, Gym Class Heroes, and many others. To date, he has achieved 22 US Top 40 Hits, as well as 10 Number 1's, 10 top fives, and 87 Top 10 chart positions globally. His songs have been streamed over 5 billion times, and in 2019, he held the #1 position on the Billboard Rock Songwriters chart for nine weeks, a year-end record. Sam has also been chosen to be on Variety's Hitmakers list, as well as being named Rolling Stone's Hot List Producer of the Year in 2008.Hollander's career has recently hit new heights from collaborations with Fitz and the Tantrums' multi-platinum worldwide hit, “HandClap” (one-billion-streams) and eight songs he co-penned on Panic! At The Disco's Billboard 200 No. 1 album Pray For The Wicked, including the 5x platinum, billion streamed record-breaking global hit “High Hopes” and “Hey Look Ma, I Made It!” which replaced “High Hopes” at No. 1 on the Hot Rock Songs chart. Other notable recent successes include writing Banners' platinum hit, “Someone To You,” Blink-182's Alternative Top 10 single “Blame It On My Youth”, James TW's worldwide platinum hit “When You Love Someone” and writing and producing two songs on the legendary Ringo Starr's recent release “What's My Name.” He's currently writing and producing the music for NBC'S fall 2021 new drama series Ordinary Joe.We want to hear from you! Is this record enjoyably dumb or just plain dumb? They report, you decide! They also talk about the latest LP from White Reaper (44:09), Asking For A Ride, a lovable one-time indie act who made the transition to the big leagues without losing their sense of humor or ability to write a hearty arena-rock hook.In the banter segment (1:40), they talk about the latest news regarding Panic! At The Disco (they're breaking up) and Fall Out Boy (they're putting out a new album). They then transitioned to talking about a happier topic — the 20th anniversary of Zwan's Mary Star Of The Sea, a long lost classic worth revisiting (14:39).New episodes of Indiecast drop every Friday. Elvis in Wonderland hits DSPs October 14, 2022 via Secret Friends Music Group, and will be available on vinyl in collaboration with Take This To Heart Records and Parting Gift Records. The Higher rode the wave of pop-rock stardom in the early 2000's after sharing the stage with emo greats including Panic! At The Disco, Taking Back Sunday, Motion City Soundtrack, Silverstein, and more. Their unique brand of rock fused with a hint of groove landed their fan-favorite On Fire LP a #9 spot on the Billboard Heatseekers Charts, on heavy rotation on multiple MTV channels, and on the radar of top tastemakers including SPIN, Kerrang!, Fuse, and more. Now the Epitaph Records alumni are taking everything they know from the major stages of their early days to shine brighter than ever for their 2022 comeback. The new tracks encompass their rejuvenated sound and fresh era fusing elements of dance pop, emo, and R&B with a pop-punk edge.
