Give online therapy a try at betterhelp.com/BENEATH and get on your way to being your best self.” ** When screen legend GENA ROWLANDS passed away last month at the age of 94, she left behind a film and TV legacy that will undoubtedly influence artists for decades to come. She was an acting titan who changed the way modern audiences looked at acting. From her historic independent movies with husband JOHN CASSAVETES to mainstream Hollywood to powerful performances in iconic television films, Rowlands' performances were always honest, complicated, and emotionally raw. There was just no one like her; and there never will be again. This week, we pay tribute to her endearing legacy on and off the screen. It’s been more than two years since anyone watched the second season finale of HBO’s “Euphoria.” Season three was delayed by the strikes that shut down Hollywood, and a series of dramatic events surrounding the creator Sam Levinson. The network has confirmed its return, but will the audience stay tuned-in? Plus, Comcast and its streaming service Peacock are hoping the Olympic games can reverse a recent subscriber shrinkage. It’s just one example of the television industry’s troubles. Low production, delayed premieres and a sense of uncertainty have plagued T.V. land this year. Kim Masters speaks with the Hollywood Reporter’s Scott Feinberg about what the latest Emmy nominations say about the state of the industry. Then NPR’s Eric Deggans breaks down what he learned at this month’s gathering with the Television Critics Association.

You release an emotion by letting it in. Letting go is a paradoxical concept. It does not ask of us to stop feeling, but to feel more deeply. Non-attachment is not indifference, it is the art of making our grief holy. It is in the alchemical ashes from within the furnace of terrifyingly beautiful surrender, that we rise as the phoenix. Not by becoming immune to pain, but by breathing into its embers, and calling forth its light." -Scott Feinberg via @contemplativereflections "Give up all and you gain all. Then life becomes what it was meant to be; pure radiation from an inexhaustible source. In that light, the world appears dimly like a dream.... My intention is to wake you up... My heart wants you awake. I see you suffer in your dream, and I know that you must wake up to end your woes. When you see your dream as a dream, you wake up. An illusion is something appearing as something other than it is." - Keith Kavanaugh "Do not dwell on even your reality for too long, for your reality is also an illusion. Enneagram 101 Episode: Click HERE A bit about Scott... His deepest love is simply to hold an intentional space for self inquiry and healing to emerge naturally. To offer a supportive container for people to feel safe in peeling back the layers, diving into a deeper vulnerability, and unearthing the ineffable mystery that dwells within. He sees the journey we walk together as less about becoming and more about harnessing the bravery to see ourselves fully and love ourselves deeply. As a dharma poet, inner activism coach, and teacher of meditation and inquiry-based yoga, his role as companion - a fellow traveler along the beautiful, messy, special, and deeply human journey that serves as the most profound pathway home, to the home we never truly left. He also believes the spirit within each of us is yearning to be birthed in ever new ways. Powerful ways. Ways that open us to our gifts, our purpose, our passions. They are calling us to lean in to the unexplored terrains of our inner landscapes. They are calling us to not only bring curiosity to the unattended to wounds we've each experienced, but to catalyze these energies into our most exquisite expressions. For they are most often the emissaries of a deeper voice within us longing to come into form. In the purest sense, this work is inner alchemy...a process of transforming places of limitation into places of liberation. UNMASKED: Behind the Veil of Personality - Enneagram 101 with Scott Feinberg A bit about Scott... The English actress best known for playing psychopath Villanelle on 'Killing Eve' reflects on how the actor Stephen Graham helped her early in her career, becoming the youngest-ever winner of the best actress in a drama series Emmy (at the time) and why, prior to 2021, she feared she might never get a shot at acting in films. The four-time Emmy winner for 'Game of Thrones' opens up about the personal “code” that kept him, as a person with a form of dwarfism called achondroplasia, from accepting stereotypical sorts of roles even when they were the only job offers he was receiving, how the part of Tyrion Lannister changed his life and what it was like carrying a musical for the first time. It's been a weird year for everything, and movies are no exception. But nonetheless, Oscars season is starting to percolate, and here to break it down is Scott Feinberg, who covers the awards for The Hollywood Reporter, and hosts the fantastic THR Awards Chatter pod (which can be https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/awards-chatter/id1039032256 (found here), and wherever else you get your finest audio). We start, though, on Kobe Bryant, who Scott had a chance spend time with as Kobe went through the process of making, getting nominated and ultimately winning an Oscar for "Dear Basketball." What made his journey in Hollywood unique? How about LeBron James? Clearly concerns about his commitment to hoops vs. commitment to Hollywood have been eliminated, but that doesn't mean he's not interested in the Hollywood stuff. And it's going pretty well, too. From there, it's on to news about this year's Oscars ceremony. What is it going to look like? What movies are making headway, and how might the way in which they're distributed this year impact future Oscar seasons? Was there any consideration to cancelling, given how many release dates have been pushed back? Finally, what does the week's news about Warner Brothers and HBO Max mean for the future of the industry? What else is coming? Is the theater-going experience, at least as it was before the pandemic, officially dead?
In Lucky Episode 13 we revisit the scene of the crime in Jessup, Georgia, where Academy Award (c) Winning actor William Hurt was portraying rocker Greg Allman in the highly anticipated biopic MIDNIGHT RIDER, which died prematurely like the Allman Brothers themselves, and taking with it a bright young camera assistant named SARAH JONES. The aftermath changed the way safety and responsibility is judged on films and fostered the first-ever jail term for a filmmaker. The haunted project has just risen again as the director--barred from directing ever again-- recently surfaced overseas helming a film in Europe. And the last conversations of the late Ms. Jones and her father the night before her last day on earth; the first day of the shoot, have just been revealed in a poignant and cryptic love note from the grave. Have you ever written a complaint letter or criticized someone in a newsletter? Probably... Have you ever ordered or sold on eBAY? Probably.... Have you ever had six people from the object of that letter threaten to kill you, send horrible things to you, doxx you, and cyberstalk you with the intent '...to bring you down?' Probably not, and probably not from one of the biggest companies in the world: eBAY. An amazing true crime story that is stranger than fiction that terrorized a couple from Natick, Massachusetts. Okay, no more changing rooms at the department stores. How does that sound? No queueing. No smelly, poorly lit tiny little Guantanamo Bay spaces. Not even the posh, liquor-fuelled high-end fashion shop dressing rooms either. You now scan the bar code of the clothing you like, and your phone mines all your Insta and other social media pix and 'dresses you' in the clothes you just scanned so you can really 'see' how you will look in them. Mind-numbing technology via AMAZON, from one of the most innovative geniuses and questionable human beings on the planet, coming to you far too soon... Have you reverted to your old self too much this week? Are you haunted by old images, old flames, old behaviours you thought you'd shed like water off a duck's back that have now returned to second-guess yourself? It's the era of the SHADOW SELF... Blame Mars...in Aries...till the end of 2020. LADIES DAY: Fashion goes to the Podcaster's Wife this week... it's Double-MONCLER + GUCCI...while I sit around like an Emperor with no clothes. But Ladies aren't allowed as members in my Men's Club. Find out why this is a good thing! Hugh Jackman got old. Yep, baby-face is gone. But like Penfold's Grange it's a good thing. And like a secret camera in a therapist's office we see him bare his soul in BAD EDUCATION and why it's such an epic film, and his best turn since his unbelievably overlooked tour-de-force in THE PRESTIGE. You don't know about it, and it cost like 10 cents to make by movie standards these days, but Amazon Prime's THE VAST OF NIGHT is your Easter Egg treasure for the mid-year mark. Accidentally stumbled upon from a great tout from the always reliable and insightful Scott Feinberg at The Hollywood Reporter, this film is a sci-fi / thermal horror treat. You think you know tasty stuff but trust me, you don't. Because unless you've had WARATAH BAY ICE CREAM, you're thinking Lefty sociopath duplicitous faux hippie sell-outs like Ben & Jerry make great ice cream. They make good ice cream in a failed State. Volvo makes good cars. But Waratah Bay is... (Gulp) possibly the best boutique ice cream brand in the whole Universe and it's only available in a few stores in towns the size of postage stamps in Victoria. It's the Ferrari 250 GTO of ice cream, and it needs some new roads to hoe. I reveal the crack cocaine of ice cream and something to take your mind off riots, looting, cancel culture, #BLM, and the end of the world as we know it. #SteveRosendaleArtist #BadEducation #ColonialBrewing #cancelCulture #Moncler #Gucci #Amazon #JeffBezos #TheTelegraph #SteveBird #Th...
Without a host, the night moved right along but then, it came to best picture. How did it come to be that Julia Roberts was announcing 'Green Book' as the winner when the film had endured scandal after scandal? Scott Feinberg explains what makes the ballot for best picture different from all the other categories. And the other takeaway? The Academy is not the same as "film Twitter"--far from it, in this case!
Is anyone still planning to watch this train wreck of an Oscars ceremony this year?? Well we still are because we can't. help. ourselves. So we brought in a heavy-hitter - THR awards columnist and host of the Awards Chatter podcast, Scott Feinberg - to explain this no-host, fewer-category morass the Academy has waded into. Plus, predictions for major categories, a look into why no women were nominated for Best Director, and more poignantly why Jessie is going to have to swallow her "Shallow" feelings once and for all - and a hot take to help you win that Oscar ballot tie-breaker!
