Just a short episode as I have been away on a mini break with a friend to the South of France and Monaco! A short round up of ... well, all the drinks we consumed and our experience of sitting on the beach, watching parents dealing with their children as well as screaming children on the plane and at train stations. It was an eye opener as non-parents to watch the parents around us, being parents! If you are single and childfree... embrace every moment ;) Thank you so much for listening to my show! You can follow and contact me here;Instagram - https://www.instagram.com/onesinglewoman/Facebook - https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=61551831488278email - onesinglewomanpodcast@gmail.com

Dann is the first, but hopefully not the last, childfree man we are featuring in an episode of our web series. He is Canadian, eats a plant-based diet and has a fluffy cat. As if he wasn't cool enough yet, Dann is also the author of "Planned UNParenthood", the first book about the childfree choice and lifestyle written from a male perspective. We had so many questions for Dann, including how societal pressure feels for CF men, how did he approach the subject with his wife when they started dating, and, of course, about the book. We also left a couple of questions for YOU at the end of the episode. Comment below or send an email, we want to read your answers! Tom James, the author of "Your Children Are Boring: or How Modern Parents Ruin Everything", agreed to come as a guest to our show to talk about his book. We talked about how all parents think their kid is special, about losing your identity when you have a baby and about what we found out later is referred to as "sharenting" (the overuse of social media by parents to share content based on their children, such as baby pictures or details of their children's activities), among other things. Raise your hands, we're doing a headcount... We've all been there. People say we're selfish because we don't want to have children. Some childfree people call themselves selfish because of the choice they have made. We talk about that and discuss why it is sometimes hard to admit that you don't want to become a parent. Jody Day inspired us to talk about this subject after we read a quote from her presentation at FertilityFest 2018: "Pronatalist privilege shares its systemic structure with all other forms of isms, including sexism and racism. It's a way of seeing the world from a privileged vantage point, elevated above others, and nearly always conferred without effort." It's not an easy conversation, it's certainly not black and white, so it's still food for thought. Speaking of, what are YOUR thoughts about this subject? In this week's episode, I talk to childfree lifestyle advocate, LeNora Faye. LeNora is a childfree lifestyle advocate who creates public and private global platforms for people choosing not to have / birth or raise children. She began her public advocacy work in 2018 after realising a need for more conversation about not wanting to have kids. Following a year of blogging, she co-created the international podcast and web series Childfree Girls which led to the development of Childfree Convention. In 2022, LeNora co-founded Childfree Media, a network of global content creators focused on choice awareness. Topics that LeNora & I cover are:how she came to work in the childfree space through her blog;what it looks like to be a childfree lifestyle advocate;the discomfort of being visible;LeNora's experience of growing up in a cult, and how it impacted her decision to not have children;how she eventually left the cult by essentially disappearing for 10 years;how she always felt she had a calling for more;the similarities between dealing with the shame of being raised in a cult, and the shame of not having children;how being respected for choosing not to have children is something that many childfree people would appreciate;how LeNora is an introvert and subsequently requires plenty of alone time to recharge;our mutual love of road trips;finding your tribe and how it happens when you're in flow;internet trolls and how to deal with them;Follow LeNora on Instagram: @childfreeblog Follow LeNora on Twitter:@glassviolinFollow LeNora on LinkedIn:@LeNora Faye LeNora's website:lenorafaye.com Book a FREE 30 minute coaching 'taster' session HERE: https://calendly.com/lucymeggeson/30minute Fancy getting your hands on my FREE Top 10 Mindset Tips? We received an email from one of our listeners, and one of the questions he raised was: Do you feel like introverts are more comfortable as childfree? Which was followed up by "some people are charged up by endless talking. It wears me out. Do you feel that folks like me are more happy as childfree?" You might have heard someone say that childfree people have chosen not to have kids because they had horrible childhoods. The logic behind this myth is that having had a bad start in life left us so scarred and broken that we don't want to even risk re-living it with our own children. In this episode, we decided to explore this topic with the end goal of debunking this myth. Many of us have heard the expression "it takes a village" when it comes to raising children. Parents seem to crave (need?) to have a support system around them to help them look after the kids when they can't, either because they are busy working or because they simply need a break. However, many parents are also very defensive when it comes to other people even suggesting how to discipline their children, which is somehow even worse when it comes from someone who doesn't have children because "you're not a parent so you wouldn't get it." Women have more options and information than ever before in terms of deciding how they want to live their lives. What is the difference between childfree and childless? Childfree refers to the conscious and voluntary decision not to parent, whether that be to a biological, foster or adopted child. Childless refers to a person who either wants to have a child, but has not yet had one; or wants to become a biological parent but cannot due to a medical inability to do so. Is it difficult to date or find long term partners as a childfree woman? Yes, dating as a childfree woman or man can be difficult because although there are large swaths of the population who do not want to have children, it can be difficult to find those people if you don't know where to look. It can also be difficult because you are eliminating a large number of potential partners from your dating pool (i.e. men or women who DO want to have children). Is it common for women to waiver in their decision to have children? It does happen and people do change their minds. However, it is important to communicate to potential partners AS SOON AS POSSIBLE of your lack of desire to have children. You do not want to wait to tell potential partners that you either do not want to have children or that you're unsure whether you want to have children. Not being clear and transparent about your position regarding children can cause a lot of issues in a relationship Why did you decide not to have children? When I thought about what I wanted my life to look like, having children didn't align with my vision for my life. I encourage other women to do the same. Imagine what a perfect life looks for you and that ask yourself whether or not a child fits into that life. What advice do you have for women who are on the fence about having children? Whatever choice you make, make sure you make it for YOURSELF. DO NOT make such a huge decision for your parents, siblings or even your partner. Make sure that you have a baby because you genuinely want to bring a life into this world.
What does "growing up" mean? And how does it relate to having or not having children? These burning questions are at the center of this episode, in which we talk about our personal experiences as well as some of the bingos we've heard that relate to this topic. --- You can also watch our show on YouTube! Some of us have been told "sharing is caring!" or some variation of it since we were kids. But, let's face it: not all of us enjoy sharing and, sometimes, not sharing is actually caring, too. Do you like sharing? Did that have any impact on your decision to embrace the childfree lifestyle? These are just a couple of questions that the three Childfreee Girls tackle in this episode. --- You can also watch our show on YouTube! Search for Childfree Girls to watch the full episode! Some childfree people regularly use *colorful* language to refer to parents and children. These words and terms are usually offensive and degrading. Some of the same childfree people will call other childfree people a "breeder-pleaser" if the latter don't agree with the use of that type of language. We think it's safe to say that many childfree people have "lost" at least one friend after they had kids. It's very common, and it sucks. To have kids or not to have kids, THAT is the question that every adult woman must ask herself. Lately, more and more women are answering that question in the negative and ditching the “mommy” vibes for Rich Auntie Vibes. Join Syd for S2 Ep8 Rich Auntie Vibes: Making a Life Without Children, as she sits down with Isabel Firecracker to discuss Isabel's choice to live a childfree life and her work as a coach in support of other women who have chosen to do the same. Isabel was born and raised in Colombia and has called five countries "home" in her 30-something years. A world traveler, avid kite surfer, and childfree intersectional feminist, Isabel is a pragmatic, no-nonsense coach for childfree women who struggle with feelings of insecurity, shame, guilt, or anger that surround their choice to not have children. She has designed her coaching programs specifically for this end: to help childfree women evolve and grow into the very best version of themselves. Isabel is also host of The Honest Uproar podcast and co-host of Childfree Girls. She is also founder of The Uprising Spark and co-founder of Nunca Madres (Never Mothers). All of her entrepreneurial efforts are in support and celebration of women who desire to live childfree lives. Want to connect or work with Isabel? Women have more options and information than ever before in terms of deciding how they want to live their lives. Imagine a situation in which someone commits a crime, is found guilty, and then the normal prison sentence for this specific crime would be heavily reduced just based on the fact that this person wants to become a parent in the future. Amanda Knox, an American woman who was sentenced to prison for the murder of her roommate in Italy and a few years later acquitted of this charge, in an interview published by People Magazine stated that "women's fertility should be taken into account with prison sentencing."
