As a child star-turned-household name (thanks to 11 seasons on “Married...with Children”) Christina avoids the pitfalls of other kid actors and becomes one of Hollywood's leading ladies of comedy. She's riding high on the heels of an Emmy-winning turn on “Friends,” and a successful string of movies (“Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy,” “Vacation”). But when she begins to develop serious and mysterious symptoms on the set of her Netflix show, “Dead to Me,” Christina's health takes a devastating turn. Hey friends! In this episode, I sat down with Teresa—a skilled massage therapist, intuitive toe reader, and dedicated self-love coach who also happens to be one of my closest friends. We kicked things off by sharing the wild story of how our friendship started, including a ridiculous road trip that we somehow survived after returning from Bali.We also got real about giving ourselves grace—especially when recovering from being sick and trying to get back to “normal.” Spoiler: it's never as easy as we think, but hey, we're all just figuring it out. Then there's my ongoing battle with those readers I now have to use just to see—I swear, they make me feel so old! And don't even get me started on that moment when I thought I might have to engage my emergency response plan. Let's just say life keeps us on our toes (pun totally intended).Oh, and if you love a good laugh, this episode is packed with giggling fits that will definitely make you feel like you're hanging out with your besties. My hope is that by listening to our stories—our mistakes, our moments of vulnerability—you'll feel a little less alone and a lot more empowered to embrace your own journey, imperfections and all.Below are the Instagram Pages, Movies and TV Show referenced in the episodeInstagram PagesTeresa & Shranda: @thedeependofhealing & @helloshrandalynMovies and TV ShowsSteel Magnolias (1989)Showgirls (1995)White Chicks (2004)Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy (2004)Step Brothers (2008)My Girl (1991)Game of Thrones (2011–2019)

Few films define absurdist comedy, as well as Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy (2004). Directed by Adam McKay and starring Will Ferrell as the legendary, moustachioed newscaster Ron Burgundy, Anchorman carved a bold path through comedy with an all-star cast, offbeat humour, and unforgettable quotes that have lingered in pop culture. In this Anchorman (2004) Movie Review, we're diving deep into what makes this cult classic not just a film but an icon of comedy—and one of the most quotable movies of all time.Plot and Characters: When News Was KingSet in the 1970s, a time when "men were men" and women "stayed at home," the story centres around the fictional KVWN Channel 4 News Team, led by the famously self-assured and sometimes painfully oblivious Ron Burgundy. Alongside Ron, we meet his team of misfits: the weather-savvy, clueless Brick Tamland (Steve Carell); overconfident field reporter Brian Fantana (Paul Rudd); and sports anchor Champ Kind (David Koechner), who lives for high fives and pep talks. These characters create a backdrop of harmless but hilarious masculinity that clashes sharply when Veronica Corningstone (Christina Applegate) joins the team as the station's first female anchor.Anchorman's setup brilliantly juxtaposes the absurdly sexist mindset of its male leads against Veronica's ambition, highlighting the shifting social norms of the time. The plot might be thin—it's mostly about Ron and Veronica battling it out for the anchor position—but it's rich in comedic material. It's a satire of news culture, masculinity, and the competitive, ego-fueled world of media that remains relevant today.A Perfect Cast: Comedy's All-Stars UniteWhat makes Anchorman shine is its cast, an ensemble of comedy heavyweights who bring McKay and Ferrell's vision to life. Will Ferrell is flawless as Ron Burgundy, balancing his bumbling arrogance with just enough charm to make you root for him even as he gets himself into deeper trouble. Ferrell's embodiment of Ron's obliviousness and blustering bravado became instantly iconic; it's hard to imagine anyone else playing the role.Meanwhile, Steve Carell's Brick Tamland is a masterpiece of deadpan comedy. With lines like “I love lamp,” Carell captures a character so endearing yet clueless that it's impossible not to laugh. Paul Rudd's Brian Fantana is the epitome of 70s coolness gone hilariously wrong, especially during his “Sex Panther” cologne debacle—a bit so absurdly funny it's now a classic in itself. David Koechner, as Champ Kind, rounds out the team with his absurdly aggressive, often over-the-top take on sports reporting. Each character is individually funny, but together, they create an ensemble that works on a level of comedic chemistry that's rarely matched.Christina Applegate's Veronica is the perfect foil to the bumbling news team. Applegate's character is strong-willed, determined, and smart—qualities that make her the film's moral compass but never dull the humour. Veronica's arc gives Anchorman a unique edge, creating a comedy with an unexpectedly solid message about the power of women in the workplace, wrapped in layers of absurdity.Improvised Brilliance: McKay and Ferrell's Signature ComedyMuch of Anchorman's magic comes from its improvisational style. Adam McKay and Will Ferrell wrote a loose script, allowing the cast the freedom to riff and play off each other's quirks. This is a huge part of the film's charm; the lines feel spontaneous, and the cast's reactions are genuine. Some of the most memorable scenes, such as the Channel 4 news team's infamous back alley brawl with rival news stations, are the result of this improvisational approach. The “news fight” scene, which features cameos from Ben Stiller, Vince Vaughn, and even Tim Robbins, is so outlandish it has become legendary. It encapsulates what makes Anchorman special—a wild mix of unpredictability and commitment to the bit.McKay's direction leans heavily on satire, poking fun at the masculinity and trivial self-importance of the news business, especially in an era where anchors were often worshipped as local celebrities. McKay and Ferrell's collaboration laid the groundwork for a style of humour that would define future hits like Step Brothers and Talladega Nights, blending absurdity with a hint of social commentary.Cultural Impact: Ron Burgundy's Lasting LegacyAnchorman isn't just a comedy; it's a cultural phenomenon that has transcended the screen. Lines like “Stay classy, San Diego,” “I'm kind of a big deal,” and “Great Odin's raven!” have made their way into everyday conversation, solidifying Ron Burgundy's place in pop culture. The film even spawned a sequel, 2013's Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues, although many fans argue the original remains untouchable. This lasting impact speaks to the film's perfect combination of hilarious writing, iconic characters, and the kind of humour that feels fresh every time you watch it.The film's legacy also includes its influence on subsequent comedies. After Anchorman, comedies began more openly embracing improvisational styles, and the genre saw an increase in surreal, character-driven humour. The success of Anchorman gave McKay and Ferrell the leverage to create other offbeat comedies that pushed boundaries and expanded the genre's potential. Why Anchorman Still WorksRe-watching Anchorman almost 20 years later, it still holds up remarkably well. While some of the humour is undeniably ridiculous, the film has an underlying cleverness that gives it staying power. Its satire of the media is still relevant in the age of social media and 24-hour news, and its take on gender dynamics in the workplace remains poignant. For a film filled with absurdist humour, Anchorman has surprising depth and remains one of the most quotable films in the comedy genre.Final Verdict: A Comedy Classic Worth RevisitingIn the Anchorman (2004) Movie Review episode of Born to Watch, we celebrate this comedy classic for its perfect blend of absurdity and satire, brought to life by a dream team cast. From Ron Burgundy's unflinching vanity to Brick Tamland's lovable cluelessness, each character leaves a lasting impression. Anchorman continues to entertain audiences with its unique humour, endlessly quotable lines, and moments of genuine satire that speak to an era obsessed with image and celebrity. So, if you haven't watched Anchorman recently, it's worth revisiting. With every rewatch, you'll find yourself laughing at the same ridiculous lines—and discovering new ones that maybe you didn't catch the first time. This is comedy at its best: brash, bold, and utterly unforgettable. Will Ferrell starts as the titular Ron Burgundy, a popular San Diego news anchor in the mid '70's who sees his world turned upside down when his station eventually hires a woman(!) to be a potential co-anchor on his news program.  Her name is Veronica Corningstone (Christina Applegate), she's excellent at her job, they start dating, they fall in love.....and complications result.  This satirical comedy was directed by Adam McKay (Don't Look Up, Talladega Nights) and features a pretty stacked cast of gifted comedic actors including Paul Rudd, Steve Carell, David Koechner, Kathryn Hahn, and Fred Willard.  It was released twenty years this month and would end up being one of the more quoted comedies of the 21st Century.  Let's find out if how it still holds up....Stay Classy, San Diego!Host: Geoff GershonEdited By Ella GershonProducer: Marlene GershonSend us a Text Message.https://livingforthecinema.com/Facebook:https://www.facebook.com/Living-for-the-Cinema-Podcast-101167838847578Instagram:https://www.instagram.com/livingforthecinema/Letterboxd:https://letterboxd.com/Living4Cinema/

The first installment in the Anchorman series, the film is a tongue-in-cheek take on the culture of the 1970s, particularly the new Action News format.[3] It portrays a San Diego television station where Ferrell's title character clashes with his new female counterpart.DONT GET LEFT BEHIND! Welcome to another episode of "No More Late Fees"! This week, Jackie and Danielle, our ex-Blockbuster besties, dive into the wacky world of San Diego's top news team with "Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy." Expect a wild ride featuring brick fights, jazz flute solos, and plenty of hot takes. Joining them is Jamie, from HR Besties Pod, who brings her passion for millennial rights (and ankle socks) to the table. Together, they navigate the comedic antics of Ron Burgundy (Will Ferrell) and his crew, including Veronica Corningstone (Christina Applegate), Brick Tamland (Steve Carell), and Brian Fantana (Paul Rudd). As they revisit this 2004 comedy gem, the trio doesn't hold back on the laughs or the critiques. From Ron's epic battles against feminism to the cast's surprising age reveals (spoiler: Will Ferrell was only 36 during filming, but who knew?), it's a hilarious nostalgia trip. With Jamie's fresh perspective, having seen the movie for the first time, and Jackie and Danielle's deep dives into behind-the-scenes drama (yes, there's some juicy gossip about Will Ferrell and Adam McKay), this episode is a must-listen for fans of the film and lovers of 2000s comedies. So grab your Sex Panther cologne and tune in for a fun-filled discussion that promises to be 60% of the time, laugh-out-loud every time! ·Season 4 Episode 15· — No More Late Fees Call 909-601-NMLF (6653) or Send in a voice message https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/nomorelatefees/message Support this podcast: Become a Patreon Bestie https://www.patreon.com/Nomorelatefees Buy us a Coffee https://ko-fi.com/nomorelatefees Shop nostalgic merch on our Amazon Store https://www.amazon.com/shop/nomorelatefeespodcast Follow Us on Social: Instagram https://www.instagram.com/nomorelatefees TikTok https://www.tiktok.com/@nomorelatefees Facebook https://www.facebook.com/nomorelatefees Youtube https://www.youtube.com/@nomorelatefees Twitter https://x.com/NoMoreLateFees Listen to the No More Late Fees Podcast:  Apple Podcasts https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/no-more-late-fees/id1562176878 Spotify https://open.spotify.com/show/24as8W3RXuntZEEmp1HJ9q?si=f67420f664a14df0 — CONQUERing https://myconquering.com/ 10% Off Code: JACKIE10 — NostaBeauty https://nostabeauty.com 20% Off Code: NMLF — Jamie Instagram https://www.instagram.com/millennial_misery https://www.instagram.com/hrbestiespod https://www.instagram.com/humorous_resources https://www.instagram.com/the_chiefmemeofficer --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/nomorelatefees/support

To kick things off, the beers remember Comedy Central's 'Tosh.0' and what is still probably the scariest movie they have ever seen, 'The Babadook' (0:27). Next, Dylan breaks down the impact 'Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy' had on his childhood, while quoting the movie at every opportunity (8:40). Sticking with rauchy 2000s comedies, Rog remembers the impact of 'The 40-Year-Old Virgin' on his adolescence (24:05). The beers keep things controversial remembering the former hit HBO comedy series 'Entourage', and why everyone should watch one season in particular before they past judgement on the show and its creators (31:39). To wrap things up, the beers relive uncomfortable train experiences they endured on the subway last week (40:16). Released in 2004, “Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy '' didn't reach initial critical acclaim, seen as just another run-of-the-mill, raunchy comedy. However, in the years since, the film, directed by Adam McKay and co-written by McKay and the film's star Will Ferell, has become a beloved staple. You can ask fans and critics alike to quote their favorite lines from the film and many will argue that it is one of the best comedies of the 2000s. Saul Austerlitz, adjunct professor of writing and comedy history at New York University, is one of those people, assigning “Anchorman” as required viewing for his students, using it as an example of good satirical writing and improvisation. Today on FilmWeek, Larry is joined by Austerlitz to talk about his new book “Kind of a Big Deal: How Anchorman Stayed Classy and Became the most Iconic Comedy of the 21st Century” (August 2023, Penguin Random House) and breakdown what makes this movie a pinnacle of comedic filmmaking.

Throughout the 2000s and 2010s, mainstream comedies were dominated by just one man: Judd Apatow. As a writer, director, and/or producer, Apatow was behind many of the biggest hits of the era, including classics such as Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy, Superbad, Bridesmaids, The Big Sick, and -- as we've previously discussed -- The 40-Year-Old Virgin. Now Kai Yaniz returns to discuss 2007's Knocked Up and its "sort-of sequel," 2012's This Is 40. Apatow wrote and directed both movies, which have a lot to say about parenthood, relationships, and how time affects them. We'll discuss whether these movies still hold up, weigh in on Leslie Mann and Paul Rudd's performances, and reveal our personal connection to them. Description: In this episode, I am speaking with the legendary Fritz Coleman who went from being the weathercaster for NBC in Los Angeles from 1982 to 2020 to co-hosting Media Path Podcast with Louise Palanker in 2020. Fritz has an inspiring story to tell that you need to hear. This is from his Wikipedia page: After growing up in Radnor, Pennsylvania, he attended Salem University in West Virginia and Temple University in Philadelphia where he studied radio, television, and film. Like many popular weather anchors, he serves as a reporter instead of a meteorologist since he doesn't have a degree in meteorology. He worked as a comedian and disc jockey for several years and as radio personality "Jay Fredericks" at WBEN and later WKBW in Buffalo, New York. He left Buffalo for Los Angeles in 1980 to work as a stand-up comic. In 1982, he began work as a weekend weatherman at KNBC and became the weekday weatherman in 1984. He also hosted or appeared on a number of other KNBC shows, such as "It's Fritz" (1988-1990) and "What a Week" (1990 – 1991). He has written and performed two one-man theater acts, titled The Reception and It's Me! Dad! He received the 2004 EMA Community Service Award for his involvement with KNBC's 4 Our Planet, a children's program. He appeared in a supporting role in one of Raymond Burr's last Perry Mason television films, The Case of the Telltale Talk Show Host, in 1993. He received a "thanks" credit on the film Wake Up, Ron Burgundy: The Lost Movie, an "alternate film" companion to Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy. From 2009 to 2011, Coleman also did the weekday weather (in addition to KNBC) for San Diego's NBC affiliate, KNSD. On June 17, 2020, Coleman announced that he would retire on Friday, June 26 after almost 40 years at KNBC. I think you will find Fritz's story quite entertaining and more importantly inspiring. Another Mickey Flicking choice, another veritable wang fest. OTT pro Will Ferrell heads up a stellar comedy cast in Anchorman, a 2004 satire of 1970s newsrooms co-written with and directed by Adam McKay. Packed with clever silliness, silly silliness, incredible performances, quotable lines and a really cute dog that speaks Spanish, it's one of Mick's go to ‘cheer me up' films. But what do Hannah and Yosra make of it? And will their thoughts leave Mick in a glass case of emotion? Tridents at the ready. Support this show http://supporter.acast.com/standardissuespodcast.
