This edition of the programme discusses how the US works. This was a predecessor to what is now called the Emergency Alert System. Benn Kobb elaborates and Frank Lucia explains how President Truman gave the go-ahead for the development of the CONELRAD system. Gary Burgeois also explains what could go wrong at 9.33 every Saturday morning. It sounds like stations then were better prepared than today.  The programme also discusses changes to the domestic shortwave service in Australia. Andy Sennitt explains that Nigeria has discontinued some of its shortwave services and the location of Radio Sovereign. Bob Tomalski (known as Roger Tate in those days) reports on DAT digital recorders.  The tape of this programme didn't survive as well as others, which explains the slightly higher level of hiss than other editions at the start of the programme. But it quickly gets better.

Spaceman's Transmissions (Ambient Music Podcast)

I started off making a mix with more vocal stuff in mind. But when I had problems loading in a Sigur Ros song, I just thought it best to just make a good solid mix. I did manage to put in some vocal stuff, though. I'm not sure what language is sang in Low Light (a tip of my hat to DAVE MICHUDA); I would guess that it's Gaelic. Also, the second tune is from a release that is mostly traditional folk-ish medieval music. This piece is great, I heard it the first time on SLEEPBOT ENVIRONMENTAL BROADCAST and decided to find and purchase the rest of the music. Glad I did. Managed to slip in some not so ambient stuff, like Bombay Dub Orchestra (amazing stuff!), Carbon Based Lifeforms, and Lawrence (check out the rest of Childish Music, very interesting). The last artist, CONELRAD (click his name for his music, please!!), I have to give made props to. One, for making really incredible music that I absolutely love. Two, for posting it all for FREE! And three, for corresponding with me about his music. Thanks for listening, and support the artists!! turn on, tune in, sleep...ambient-transmission.blogspot.comfacebook.com/tonepoetmusic
