Hijo de Luciano yRafaela, unión de la que hubo cinco hijos más. Julio César estudio en la escuela El Bijao de El Bagre, comenzó bachillerato en Zaragoza y lo terminó, como interno, en El Carmen de Viboral y es pedagogo de la Normal Superior de Villa Hermosa de Medellín. De la Universidad de Antioquia es licenciado en matemáticas y comunicador social – periodista. También estudió dibujo técnico y de joven trabajo, por sus conocimientos en cerámica, en LoceríaColombiana en Caldas. Zapata Toro fue profesor en los municipios de Concordia, Salgar, Jericó, Bello y Medellín (LaMilagrosa). Además, fue rector de las instituciones educativas de Salgar y Jericó.  Julio César Zapata Toro llegó a los medios de comunicación en 1975. Recuerda que en Ecos de Rionegro (RCN Rionegro), el periodista Guillermo Manrique Patiño lo bautizó como “El Cañón”, por su potencia, timbre de voz y canto del gol. Antesde laborar en radio en el Oriente antioqueño, lo hizo en “La Voz del Suroeste” de Jericó de Pedro Nel Sánchez Piza, al lado de Saúl Mosquera García y Rodrigo López Estrada. Llegó al Valle de Aburrá a Envigado a Radio Metropolitana de Jaime Tobón de la Roche y después saltó a Todelar, en donde laboró por mucho tiempo. “Claro que debuté en Radio Súper en un partido entre Nacional y Cali” por invitación de Mario Duque Duque. “El Cañón” también ha estado en Teleantioquia y Telemedellín transmitiendo el baby fútbol. “Tuve una muy buena relación con Edgar Perea Arias”, dice y manifiesta: “mi gran profesor fue Jorge Eliécer Campuzano. Yo lo escuchaba a través de la radio y de él aprendí mucho. My guest this week is Stephen Willoughby, who studied Theology at Lampeter between 1984 and 1987. After university, Stephen's path took a technical turn – he became a computer operator and later completed an MSc in Computer Science at Aberystwyth, a journey that reflects a broadening of Stephen's skills. Stephen now works in quality assurance and holds a PhD in a related field. Originally from Orpington in Kent, he now lives in Derbyshire. Stephen has had a lifelong passion for radio, sparked on his 7th birthday when he received his first radio set. He was captivated early on by classical music and Radio 3, but it was Radio 2 in the 1980s that gave him a window into the wider world. He's steeped in the station's history and recalls listening to Alan Dell on Sunday afternoons, including the public reaction when there was talk of Dell leaving the airwaves. We discuss the magic of live radio, the days when Radios 1 and 2 shared the FM frequency, and the role of DJs like David Hamilton—who used to include the pop charts in his Tuesday afternoon Radio 2 shows. Stephen also shares which stations he listens to today, including Boom Radio, and reflects on whether he's more of a looking back or a forward-looking person.

Kate Pierson is a founding member of the B-52s: The World's Greatest Party Band, and a beacon for weirdos and queer-does since the late 70s. After decades of collaborating with the likes of Iggy Pop, R.E.M., and her Japanese side-band NiNa (more on that in the episode), Kate began writing and recording her entirely solo output in 2015.
