Doch die entscheidenden technischen Durchbrüche kamen später: Wie man Ton aufgezeichnet, bearbeitet und über weite Distanzen übermittelt hat, diese Fortschritte passierten in den acht Jahrzehnten, seit es das "Echo" gibt. Derweil entwickelt sich die Radiotechnik auch heute laufend weiter.

Von Zeit zu Zeit nagt sie verstärkt an mir, sie rührt an grundlegende Fragen wie der Möglichkeit gesellschaftlicher Veränderung und der Rolle und Relevanz künstlerischer Produktion (dabei). Roger Behrens konstatiert: „Die Verbindlichkeit und Klarheit im Verhältnis der Linken zur Kunst, die ebenso Ausdruck des Verhältnisses der Linken zu sich selbst sein sollte, ist mittlerweile vollständig zerstört.
