Chaz and AJ ended the week with yet another, impossibly creepy doll for children. Bad Idea Island focuses on the "repeating" Tarzan toy that was almost immediately pulled from shelves. (0:00) WFSB's Scot Haney was on the phone with Chaz and AJ this morning, and started the call singing his new favorite song by Raye. Plus, Jennifer called in to talk about the dinner plans they have for next weekend. (7:58) Brian Stroehlien was on the phone with Chaz and AJ to talk about his "career" as a nude male model for artists to sketch. Brian admitted this all began at Burning Man, and has since posed nude for hundreds, if not thousands of sketches. (28:07) Photo courtesy: Brian Stroehlein

Join Tina Baykaner, MD, MPH, HRS Digital Education Committee Vice-Chair, and her guests Mikhael F. El-Chami, MD, FHRS and Devi G. Nair, MD, FHRS for this week's Lead episode. This article summarizes the worldwide experience retrieving chronically implanted active helix-fixation leadless ventricular pacemakers (the Aveir/Abbott platform) across regulatory clinical trials. The authors assess real-world feasibility, procedural techniques, success rates, and complications of retrieval after long dwell times, demonstrating that devices can be removed safely and effectively even years after implant—up to about 9 years in follow-up. Overall, chronic retrieval success remained high with a low rate of serious adverse events, supporting helix-fixation leadless systems as a manageable long-term pacing strategy when replacement or removal is needed. Learning Objectives Explain the clinical indications for chronic retrieval of helix-fixation leadless pacemakers and how these differ from tine-fixation platforms. Summarize the reported worldwide chronic retrieval success rates, implant-duration range, and key procedural or anatomic reasons for retrieval failure. Identify practical procedural considerations (e.g., docking-button access, retrieval catheter use, imaging support) that improve the likelihood of safe long-term leadless pacemaker removal. In this episode, we talk about the six foundational principles of strain creation in animal breeding, crucial knowledge for anyone serious about starting or improving a breeding program. Whether you're breeding birds, livestock, or other animals, understanding these principles can help you develop strains that not only represent their breed, but are genetically strong, healthy, and productive. We start by giving a brief recap of the six principles, Consolidation, Maximization, Fixation, Duplication, Stabilization, and Isolation—and explain how they work together to form the backbone of a successful breeding program. The Principle of Consolidation: Learn how outcrossing and crossbreeding can increase genetic diversity and introduce desirable traits, but if used improperly, it can weaken your strain. The Principle of Maximization: Discover the power of selective breeding and how to amplify specific traits to continuously improve your strain. The Principle of Fixation: Explore how inbreeding and line-breeding can lock in desirable traits for consistency and reliability. The Principle of Duplication: Understand the importance of creating a strain that is predictable and uniform across generations. The Principle of Stabilization: Find out how to maintain the integrity of your strain, while improving key traits through careful selection and culling. The Principle of Isolation: Learn how to safeguard your strain from contamination, disease, and outside genetic influences to maintain purity and health. We encourage you to put these principles into practice in your own breeding program, whether you're starting from scratch or looking to refine an existing strain. Tune in to discover how mastering these principles can elevate your breeding efforts. This episode is packed with actionable advice, so be sure to grab a notebook and take notes! Send us a textHeadlines are loud, but the Spirit's breeze is louder if you know how to listen. Today we press pause on rapture obsession and turn our attention to a richer biblical picture: the latter rain. Drawing from Israel's farming calendar, we unpack how early rains began the work at sowing and latter rains finished the grain for harvest—and why that matters for a restless world and a weary church. The goal isn't to chase auroras, blood moons, or viral predictions. The goal is to align our hearts with what God cares about most: people. We trace the thread from Pentecost's early rain to the promised outpouring that ripens character and readies the harvest. Along the way, we name the holy dissatisfaction many feel across generations and nations—a Spirit-led stirring that loosens apathy and opens searching eyes. Instead of treating revival like a spectacle, we frame it as formation: repentance that restores tenderness, holiness that heals, and love that becomes visible in ordinary places. The Spirit does not merely start our journey; he finishes it, shaping the moral image of God in us so we can serve as living invitations to grace. You'll hear a clear call to discernment: if a sign isn't grounded in Scripture and confirmed by Scripture, it doesn't set our agenda. Our focus shifts from timelines to people—those far from faith, and those inside the church who have lost sensitivity to sin and to the Spirit's whisper. With hope and urgency, we explore how to pray, act, and love in a season that may bring millions into the kingdom, not through hype but through the steady rain of mercy and truth. If this conversation helps you re-center on God's heart, share it with a friend, subscribe for more, and leave a review to spread the word. What would the latter rain look like on your street?Support the show

This follows a debate over a school's alumni reaction to an ST report on a major scam operation. Synopsis: Join Natasha Ann Zachariah at The Usual Place every Thursday as she unpacks the latest current affairs with guests. It was a crime report meant to highlight the suspects behind a major scam operation, but a nugget of information sparked an uproar over a school’s image. Last week, The Straits Times reported that two brothers and their cousin were the alleged masterminds running the operation from Phnom Penh. The group ran a government official impersonation scam that was allegedly responsible for 438 scam cases involving losses of at least $41 million. The 27 Singaporeans suspected of being members of the organised criminal group are now wanted by the Singapore police. But that was not what readers were talking about online. What drew attention was a detail in the Oct 30 report that one of the wanted men, Finan Siow, was said to be a former Anglo-Chinese School (Independent) student who once played for the school’s rugby team. That information – featured in both the article and an infographic – didn’t sit well with the Anglo-Chinese School Old Boys’ Association, which said the school had been singled out. ST explained its editorial decision. But the furore around that piece of information, especially from the school’s alumni on social media platforms, was curious. In this episode of The Usual Place, I speak to two well-known social commentators – comedian Rishi Budhrani, and comedy writer and communication strategist Benjamin “Mr Miyagi” Lee – to find out why we are so fixated on brand-name schools? Highlights (click/tap above): 2:01 Mr Miyagi and Rishi disclose which school they used to attend 3:39 On the ACS Old Boys’ Association’s forum letter 6:56 Rishi and Benjamin on their own reaction to the ST report 8:34 Brand name schools: Baggage and expectations 13:50 Mr Miyagi on his son’s choice of schools 11:49 Judge on merits and achievements, not school links 16:29 School alumni networks have worth too 22:58 Different experiences of school life 30:14 Education is so valued in Singapore, hence such debates 30:48 Old boys: Making the news for wrong reasons Read more: ACS Old Boys’ Association’s forum letter and response from ST: https://str.sg/pG4E Read Natasha Ann Zachariah’s articles: https://str.sg/iSXm Follow The Usual Place podcast on IG: https://www.instagram.com/theusualplacepodcast Follow Natasha on LinkedIn: https://str.sg/v6DN Filmed by: Studio+65 Edited by: Teo Tong Kai and Chen Junyi Executive producers: Danson Cheong, Elizabeth Khor & Ernest Luis Editorial producer: Lynda Hong Follow The Usual Place Podcast and get notified for new episode drops every Thursday: Channel: https://str.sg/5nfm Apple Podcasts: https://str.sg/9ijX Spotify: https://str.sg/cd2P YouTube: https://str.sg/theusualplacepodcast Feedback to: podcast@sph.com.sg SPH Awedio app: https://www.awedio.sg --- Follow more ST podcast channels: All-in-one ST Podcasts channel: https://str.sg/wvz7 Get more updates: http://str.sg/stpodcasts The Usual Place Podcast YouTube: https://str.sg/4Vwsa --- Get The Straits Times app, which has a dedicated podcast player section: The App Store: https://str.sg/icyB Google Play: https://str.sg/icyX -- #tup #tuptrSee omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
How often does something break that you know could be fixed, but you don't know how and there are no places to fix it? I remember repair stores all over the place, but the field doesn't exist any more. We all know about planned obsolescence and how products are designed to break. Now we feel we have to throw things away and replace them (after avoiding buying things when possible, which is far more than most of us practice).Enter Sandra Goldmark, as a member of a growing movement to fix things and make things fixable. She's also an Ivy League professor at Barnard and the Columbia Climate School, so, no, professors don't have to be out of touch.I met Sandra before the pandemic, at a shop she set up down by the South Street Seaport to repair things. Besides her own book Fixation, she was mentioned in a book (The Repair Revolution) in my sustainability leadership workshop alumni book club.Lest you think people have to be born fixers or educated as engineers, a preconception that I find still holds me back, she shares her background not growing up with those things. On the contrary, she found she enjoyed it and found community.Listen for a basic human approach to fixing things and changing culture.Sandra's home pageHer book, FixationHer page at Barnard Hosted on Acast. Send us a Positive Review!Series Title: Rungs and Revelations: Ascending the Spiritual Ladder [Part II of II]Why is spiritual growth so incredibly hard and confusing? Why do some people stay put in the same world view forever? Why do some people seem to grow quickly and seem to be magnets inviting others to grow? Why do some people feel torn between emerging beliefs and paralyzing fear that the old beliefs might actually be right? Mercedes Bryce Morgan unpacks the whirlwind making of Bone Lake, an 18-day Atlanta shoot that battled storms, injuries, and lost gear before completing its night-boat climax on a Los Angeles soundstage. After a Fantastic Fest premiere and Deadline-breaking international sales, the erotic survival thriller heads to U.S. theaters with buzzy audience reactions and a proudly “fun, commercial, popcorn” spirit.Mercedes traces her path from mini DV Star Wars shorts and USC to festival features, describing her taste as a mix of Oldboy's devastation and Amélie's heart. Other past influences include Barbarians, Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?, The House of Yes, Funny Games, and The One I Love. Her TIFF-premiering Fixation (2022) sparked her love for erotic thrillers. On craft, she argues the best twists are guessable seconds before they land, and test screenings help her fine-tune which parts of the mystery viewers might sense without solving it too soon. Her advice to young filmmakers: embrace constraints as boot camp, stick with collaborators who love the work, design for the audience experience, and make sure you enjoy the day-to-day… because the process is the life. What Movies Are You Watching?Introducing the Past Present Feature Film Festival, a new showcase celebrating cinematic storytelling across time. Months into an investigation, the U.S. Department of Education's Office for Civil Rights has decided that East High School's all-gender restrooms do, in fact, violate Title IX. The feds gave DPS ten days from last Friday to comply with a resolution to convert the bathrooms back to single gender — and while Superintendent Alex Marrero responded by doubling down on the district's support of trans students, he has yet to comment specifically on whether DPS will follow through. Host Bree Davies and producer Olivia Jewell Love dig into the bathroom battle, plus discuss new data from RTD that shows customer complaints about open drug use along the transit system are down dramatically.
