A bright and cheerful, joyful home is not one where everything goes according to plan. It's a home where family members learn to adapt, adjust, and respond with generosity when things don't go according to plan. The more flexibility we cultivate in ourselves and our children, the more peace, resilience, and joy we will experience as a family. Conduce Juan Carlos Barba. Send us Fan MailSeason 17 of TGTPTU calls a wrap on its third of four directors in its 4x4 this week with Ron Howard's THE DA VINCI CODE (2006). Starring Tom Hanks, father of musician and male model Chet Hanks but also known for leading roles in such earlier Howard films not covered on this podcast as Splash (1984) and Apollo 13 (1995), with a grotesque haircut as supersleuth symbiologist Robert Langdon from Dan Brown's 2003 best-selling page-turner of the same name, the movie is a bunch of nonsense that got some Catholics upset for suggesting Jesus Christ of Nazareth, the disputed son of a disputed desert deity, had children, likely through consensual intercourse unlike the legend of his siring. Howard's The Da Vinci Code also has great French actors used poorly in this flick mostly set in France and at least one Jellicle cat, one Sony Spiderman villain, and one Avenger (MCU, not BBC) actor of British lineage to help out the American Langdon in his quest for an ultimate truth that could rock the world to its core assuming it's not flat (see Revelation 7:1 and Isaiah 11:12, ya heathens). Holy host Ryan goes above and beyond in his research for this ep; the son Jack passes the season's assignment; the father Ken is unimpressed by the chase scenes; and Doubting Thomas in real time processes that the female lead is the same actress as the titular Amélie (2001). If you like anagrams and unstimulating action sequences, this might be the movie for you. Skcus eivom siht. P.S. You know that I am Opus Dei. As we begin the month of June, most children are out of school and home for the summer. And, almost immediately, they begin to complain that they're bored. What do you do with your kids when they're bored? Well, for many parents, they let them play video games or watch TV for most of the day. When we give our children a lot of access to technology, they are missing out on so many ways to grow and mature. They miss out on how to solve their problem of boredom. They miss out on learning to be creative. They miss out on connections with their siblings and parents. They miss out on experiencing the joy of simple living and human interaction. This episode is about how technology can affect your children. Before you let them have a summer with lots of tech time, listen to this episode to understand how it affects your children's brain, mood, and ability to connect with others.Check out my free resources on marriage, parenting, home management, and faith life/mindset at janetquinlan.comFollow me on Instagram @janetquinlancoaching
You are not an algorithm. You are not a data point. You are a son of God and no machine can replicate that. The Pope just put the full weight of the Church behind that statement, and this week's good news is stacked.Five stories. Five reasons to walk into your weekend fired up.On Pentecost Sunday, Pope Leo XIV released his first encyclical: Magnifica Humanitas (Magnificent Humanity). Forty-two thousand words. The Church's first major teaching document on artificial intelligence. He signed it on the 135th anniversary of Rerum Novarum. Now he is addressing the machines again. Eighty martyrs of the Spanish Civil War killed between 1936 and 1937 for no reason other than their faith, are officially on the path to beatification. They died forgiving their executioners. Meet Pedro Ballester, born in Manchester in 1996, chemical engineering student at Imperial College London, Opus Dei member, diagnosed with advanced bone cancer at 18, dead at 21, and the Diocese of Salford just formally opened his cause for canonization. Pope Leo launches a new catechesis series on Vatican II's constitution on the sacred liturgy, and invites the head of the Armenian Apostolic Church to St. Peter's Square as a sign of unity and a prayer toward full communion.
Do you want to be a woman who is a victim of everyone and everything and complains about it to anyone with ears, or do you want to be a strong woman who solves her problems and realizes that sometimes, maybe many times, it's on us to figure things out - to delegate when possible, to enforce expectations that are reasonable and to let go of unreasonable expectations of perfection in ourselves and in those around us.Complaining makes you unhappy and it makes everyone around you unhappy.Check out my free resources on marriage, parenting, home management, and faith life/mindset at janetquinlan.comFollow me on Instagram @janetquinlancoaching

In this explosive continuation of our Dutroux Affair series on "No Way, Jose!", host Jose Galison is joined once again by Austin Picard for Part 7. Having laid the foundation with Michel Nihoul's early backstory, we now dive deeper into the man at the center of the storm—unpacking his extensive and disturbing network of connections among Belgium's political elite, right-wing paramilitary circles, and high-level degenerate underworld figures. From his ties to VDB and Bonvoisin, to involvement with CEPIC, the PSC, Front de la Jeunesse, Opus Dei, Gladio, Westland New Post, and the notorious NEM clubs, this episode pulls back the curtain on a web of influence that stretches far beyond one man's crimes.Together, Jose and Austin examine how these shadowy alliances may have enabled and protected larger operations, raising uncomfortable questions about state complicity, intelligence agencies, and organized networks that operated with apparent impunity. Packed with meticulously researched details and unflinching analysis, "NWJ829 - Pt 7 of What Really Happened in the Dutroux Affair? w/Austin Picard" delivers another must-listen chapter that challenges everything the public has been told about one of Europe's darkest scandals. Please consider supporting my work-Patreon- https://www.patreon.com/nowayjose2020Only costs $2/month and will get you access to episodes earlier than the publicNo Way, Jose! A Note from James:Have you ever read The Da Vinci Code? That book was definitely a page-turner. Before I read it, I had never really heard of Opus Dei. And after today's conversation with Gareth Gore, you might wish you had never heard of Opus Dei either. In The Da Vinci Code, Opus Dei is a mysterious organization tied to the Catholic Church, secret history, and global power. But today's guest, Gareth Gore, started investigating Opus Dei from a completely different angle. He was looking into the 2017 collapse of a major Spanish bank. He found something much bigger: a secretive organization with connections to global finance, politics, elite schools, the FBI, and even the highest levels of power in Washington, D.C.His book is Opus: The Cult of Dark Money, Human Trafficking, and Right-Wing Conspiracy inside the Catholic Church. And what he found is disturbing. Officially, Opus Dei promotes holiness in everyday life. And honestly, I like parts of that idea. But Gareth argues that behind the public message is a high-control organization built on secrecy, manipulation, financial opacity, and alleged abuse. We talk about how Opus Dei recruits from both the ultra-wealthy and the desperately poor, the strange ownership structures tied to hundreds of millions of dollars, the Robert Hanssen spy scandal, alleged influence in Washington, and Gareth's recent private meeting with Pope Leo, where he says he gave the Pope a dossier calling for serious action. This is an eye-opening story. Here's Gareth Gore.Episode Description:James talks with investigative journalist Gareth Gore about Opus Dei, the secretive Catholic organization at the center of Gareth's book Opus. What started as Gareth's investigation into the collapse of Banco Popular in Spain led him into a much larger story about money, power, religious authority, alleged exploitation, and the ways an institution can hide behind noble language while pursuing a much harder political and financial agenda.Gareth explains that Opus Dei officially presents itself as a Catholic movement dedicated to helping ordinary people find holiness through daily work. But his argument is that the public message conceals a high-control system built around recruitment, secrecy, spiritual pressure, and influence inside elite institutions. He describes Opus Dei as both an official part of the Catholic Church and, in his view, an abusive cult. Opus Dei strongly disputes Gareth's book, calling it a false picture based on distorted facts and conspiracy theories. The conversation moves from Opus Dei's founding in Spain in 1928 to its special status as a personal prelature, its alleged links to Banco Popular, its recruitment practices, the Robert Hanssen spy scandal, elite schools, Washington power networks, and Gareth's recent meeting with Pope Leo. The episode is useful because it does not treat Opus Dei as just a conspiracy theory symbol from The Da Vinci Code. It asks a more direct question: what happens when a religious organization accumulates money, secrecy, political influence, and moral authority at the same time? What You'll Learn:What Opus Dei officially is, and why its status as a personal prelature matters. How Gareth Gore went from investigating a Spanish bank collapse to writing a book about Opus Dei.Why Gareth argues that Opus Dei's public message differs sharply from its internal practices. How Banco Popular allegedly became a financial engine for Opus Dei-linked projects. Why Gareth compares aspects of Opus Dei to a high-control cult. What Gareth says happened in the Robert Hanssen spy scandal. Why the alleged recruitment of minors and underprivileged girls has become one of the most serious issues around the organization. What Gareth told Pope Leo in their private meeting.Timestamped Chapters:[02:00] Gareth Gore on Opus Dei as an alleged abusive cult[02:41] Opus Dei as a “rising militia”[03:54] A Note from James: from The Da Vinci Code to Gareth's investigation[05:54] Gareth joins the show[06:00] How James first heard of Opus Dei[06:37] Gareth's background as a financial journalist[07:11] What is Opus Dei?[07:45] Opus Dei's status as a personal prelature[08:40] Why that structure gives Opus Dei unusual freedom[09:15] Gareth's argument: official Catholic structure, unofficial high-control group[10:03] The positive public message of “holiness in everyday life”[10:43] Josemaría Escrivá and Opus Dei's founding[12:00] When Gareth thinks the movement turned political[13:30] Spain on the edge of civil war[14:14] Escrivá's followers as a “secret army”[15:19] Why Opus Dei recruits from elites[16:00] Why Opus Dei also recruits from the poor[17:09] Underprivileged girls and alleged domestic servitude[17:37] How recruitment works by invitation[19:15] Lifelong study, confession, and spiritual guidance[19:54] Opus Dei's modern agenda[20:46] Sex, family values, and political identity[22:05] Why Dan Brown chose Opus Dei for The Da Vinci Code[24:01] Banco Popular and the financial trail[25:54] The mysterious shareholder structure[26:34] Shell companies and alleged financial flows[27:15] Why not publicly identify Opus Dei as a major shareholder?[28:27] Arm's-length foundations and deniability[29:52] Are there good people inside Opus Dei?[30:32] The founder's rules and internal control[32:51] What happens when people leave[33:52] Robert Hanssen and Opus Dei[35:00] Hanssen's wife, confession, and the Opus Dei priest[36:24] Gareth's theory of institutional self-protection[40:03] How the bank collapse connects back to Opus Dei[41:00] Why Gareth thinks ownership structure delayed reform[42:43] Gareth's private meeting with Pope Leo[44:26] The dossier Gareth gave the Pope[45:08] Why Gareth says the meeting went better than expected[46:15] Allegations involving minors and grooming[47:00] Opus Dei schools and elite recruitment[48:20] After-school clubs and hidden recruitment claims[49:16] Can the good message be separated from the organization?[50:44] Why Gareth thinks the founder's rules are the central problem[51:51] The problem of Escrivá's sainthood[53:00] Could the canonization process be reopened?[54:00] Opus Dei, Silicon Valley, and cult-like power structures[56:41] Peter Thiel, Stanford, and Opus Dei overlap[57:29] Closing thoughts on OpusAdditional Resources:Opus: The Cult of Dark Money, Human Trafficking, and Right-Wing Conspiracy inside the Catholic Church by Gareth Gore. Having the grandchildren for more than a couple of hours visit, reminded me of how difficult it really is to raise children. Why do humans do this? Why do we have children that require so much sacrifice? Why are we shielded from the knowledge of the terrific amount of sacrifice before we have children? Why? Well, I think it is a seed planted in our hearts from God. In my experience, the only way to find joy in motherhood is to see it as a higher calling - to be a mom is to have a calling from God.Check out my free resources on marriage, parenting, home management, and faith life/mindset at janetquinlan.comFollow me on Instagram @janetquinlancoaching

When we try to control our children's behavior, it usually results in anger, yelling, and probably some guilt. The truth is, we can't control their behavior, but we can teach and lead them to proper behavior. In this episode, I talk about the five virtues that we need to teach our children so they are happy and cooperative, and so that our home is peaceful and joyful - all of which will contribute to our becoming a happy, calm mom.

Gareth Gore, author of the exposé OPUS: The Cult of Dark Money, Human Trafficking, and Right-Wing Conspiracy inside the Catholic Church, had a private audience with Pope Leo XIV last week as the Pontiff weighs the future of the secretive and controversial Catholic sect Opus Dei.Gore reports they spoke at length about the book, which the Pope described as a "rigorous piece of work." Gore urged the Vatican to launch an independent inquiry into alleged financial and sexual abuses by the troubled prelature. The unusual meeting resulted in feature stories from the Associated Press, Reuters and the Catholic news agency EWTN. These stories in turn have been picked up by outlets such as The Washington Post, Newsmax, The London Times, National Catholic Register, WORLD, Crux and many others. In OPUS Gore reveals decades of deception and abuse perpetrated by a group of men sworn to celibacy and self-flagellation. His investigatioed him to records and whistleblower testimony that reveal Opus Dei's masochistic rituals, its institutionalized subjugation of women, its financial malfeasance, and its fervent support of far-right causes and influencers, particularly in the United States.Pope Leo is expected to take action regarding the future of Opus Dei in the near future. In other news, Variety reports that the producers of Narcos just acquired rights to adapt OPUS into a TV series.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/arroe-collins-unplugged-totally-uncut--994165/support.

In our call to marriage and motherhood, there are many contradictions, disappointments, and frustrations that we experience. If we look at the difficult part of being a wife and mother through a non-Christian lens, then we move into dissatisfaction, disappointment, and overwhelm with our state of life. But if we see the contradictions through the lens of our Christian faith - through Jesus' words, "take up your cross and follow me", so much of our life that used to cause frustration and anger, now has meaning and purpose.Check out my free resources on marriage, parenting, home management, and faith life/mindset at janetquinlan.comFollow me on Instagram @janetquinlancoaching

This episode is a replay from 2023, but I thought it was especially timely during this season of Lent.We all judge. Some more than others. Those who judge others, are often victims of judging - their own. We're very good at judging ourselves - of seeing all the ways in which we fail or don't measure up. We're good at comparing ourselves to other women and quickly seeing where we don't measure up, as opposed to seeing the gifts and talents we have.Check out my free resources on marriage, parenting, home management, and faith life/mindset at janetquinlan.comFollow me on Instagram @janetquinlancoaching

As wives, mothers, friends, and women of the world, a lot is asked of us every day! But the most important thing we can do every day is to pray for the men in our lives - our husband and our sons especially - that they will have the faith, hope, and love of St. Joseph. We pray that they will be strong in the face of all the temptations the world has to offer to reject all that is good, beautiful, and True. We pray that our husbands have the strength, courage, and humility to live God's will for them every day.Check out my free resources on marriage, parenting, home management, and faith life/mindset at janetquinlan.comFollow me on Instagram @janetquinlancoaching
