It is the seventh time this season Ohtani and Trout have homered in the same game. Tiafoe is a 24-year-old from Maryland who is seeded 22nd at Flushing Meadows and reached the second major quarterfinal of his career. He is the youngest American man to get that far at the U.S. Open since Andy Roddick in 2006. This surprise came a day after Nick Kyrgios eliminated No. 1 seed and defending champion Daniil Medvedev. That makes this the first U.S. Open without either of the top two seeded men reaching the quarterfinals since 2000. Tennis – US Open – No. 3 Alcaraz beats Cilic in 5-set match | US Open updates It’s going to be a U.S. Open quarterfinals matchup of two rising stars when third-seeded Carlos Alcaraz plays No. 11-seed Jannik Sinner. Alcaraz dropped to his knees when he won the grueling match that lasted nearly four hours and ended around 2:25 a.m. Alcaraz was already the youngest man to reach the fourth round in consecutive U.S. Open since Pete Sampras in 1989 and ’90. He’s a first-time head coach trying to turn around a founding NFL franchise, and the next big step comes this week when the Chicago Bears host the San Francisco 49ers in the season opener. Eberflus says it’s “always special when you do something for the first time” and is “part of your story that you’re writing.” The Bears hired general manager Ryan Poles and Eberflus to replace the fired Ryan Pace and Matt Nagy after going 6-11 and missing the playoffs for the ninth time in 11 years. NFL – NFL returning to London for international combine in October The NFL is holding an international combine in London for the second consecutive year. Forty-four athletes will be selected to participate in the combine in front of NFL evaluators at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Oct. 3-4. Instead of team scouts, the NFL that evaluates the players and selects a handful to train in the United States for three months, after which final choices are made to allocate players to NFL teams for the 2023 season. NASCAR – NASCAR’s wild regular season rolls over into playoffs If NASCAR’s playoff opener at Darlington Raceway was any indication, the postseason is going to be a wild one. Erik Jones became the first non-playoff driver to win NASCAR’s opening playoff race. Several top seeds expected to compete like Chase Elliott, Kyle Larson, Kevin Harvick and Kyle Busch were out of contention at the end. Elliott was the top playoff seed and hit the wall early.
