In this episode, I had the pleasure of sitting down with Ty Horn, who many of you might know from his presence on Instagram where he shares powerful insights about strength training, Jiu-Jitsu, and life. Ty and I dove deep into his story—from being a Division 1 football player to hitting a major life setback, then rediscovering strength through strongman competitions and eventually falling in love with Jiu-Jitsu. He shared how strength training gave him not only physical resilience but a sense of identity and purpose again, especially after dealing with legal trouble, being ostracized, and navigating the post-athlete identity crisis. This was a real, vulnerable, and fun conversation that covered so much more than just sports or lifting. Ty brought honesty, humor, and perspective to what it really means to train for life—not just for aesthetics or wins. If you're a parent, an athlete trying to figure out “what's next,” or someone who's trying to find their groove in fitness and life again—this episode is for you. What does it mean to trust plan A? Is having a plan B smart, "realistic," or a mask for fear? A recent research study (Shin and Milkman, 2016) revealed the dangers and risks of having a “Plan B" when you truly want your “Plan A” to succeed. The researchers found that once you begin thinking about a fallback plan, your desire to achieve your ultimate goal decreases. They found that those who were encouraged to develop a Plan B were less likely to achieve their goal than those who did not receive these instructions. Not only were the Plan B participants less successful, their interest in reaching their original goal decreased. Today I had the privilege to sit down with Mike and talk about many things. I was curious what it was like back in 1999 when ESPN followed him and his teammates around at practice and in school for an entire season. If you are an old school, die hard high school football fan like myself, you may remember when two of the top 2 teams in the state and country squared off in the final game of the season. One was coached by legendary Mike Pettine (CB West) and the other was coached by Mike Pettine Jr. (North Penn). A great piece of PA HS football history that Mike was a very big part of and also aired on National TV. Mike left teaching and coaching a few years back and has an entirely new outlook on life. He is proud of the past and excited for the new days ahead of living a quasi-Amish style life in Bucks County. Not exactly Amish, but he does spend a lot of time in bare feet gardening and being an amazing father to his children. During this 2 hour chat Mike shares some life lessons learned from the late, great, Mike Pettine and of course his son, "JR." We also jump into a new style of preparing/strengthening our bodies for the long life ahead. We both have Tommy John iii to thank for that. Listen in and share if you like it!!!!

Joe Castignani joins Michael Rasile on For the Love of Sports to discuss his D1 Football career at UC Berkeley and how that led to him founding MVMI! Through knowing the right people at Berkeley, Joe realized that his idea for a new type of pillow was not bad. So with that information, he put the idea on the back burner, got a 'real job', and let the regret rule him for about 3 years. After he was furloughed from his 'real job' during COVID, he saw this as an opportunity to bring his idea to light immediately, so MVMI was born. During his time at Berkeley, he took a sleep class and became fascinated with the idea of getting better sleep and how it could be achieved. He also ran into some terrible pillows while at college, getting him to think of an idea that would give him better support and more comfort to get that better sleep he desired. Through multiple iterations and prototypes, Joe has finally been able to achieve a better pillow that brings people more sleep at a higher quality. He's branding MVMI as the Nike of Bedding and looks to help athletes of all sizes achieve better sleep, for better recovery and performance. Whether running a multi-million-dollar business operation with over 1000 employees or spearheading first-of-their-kind life-changing community projects, Ian Hill is recognized for being a catalyst for positive change throughout the world. Today, Ian is CEO of the National Grassroots Media Corporation and its family of networks. These Digital TV and Radio networks reach 185 million households across the US and 3.1 billion mobile devices around the world. Ian is also a professional development expert who launched one of the most innovative professional and personal development models ever created. From the use of live video streaming starting as early as 2010, to a proprietary behavioral change model that helps participants maximize their potential personally and professionally, whole cities and major corporations have participated in his programs and benefited from demonstrated, quantifiable, and lasting change. Currently, Ian is attempting to set another world record by becoming the oldest man to play college football. The effort is to save lives by de-stigmatizing mental health for men, as middle-aged men are 70% more likely to commit suicide than any other segment of the population, as well as introducing them to partner programs that will provide meaningful information and tangible tools that foster mental wellness, resiliency, and strength. Ian has partnered with the #1 long-snapping coach in the nation to achieve the record and already has interest from several top colleges.
