Jay Greeson, Chris Lee and Chase Robinson preview Michigan's road trip to Oklahoma, a game shown on Saturday night on ABC at 6:30 Central. FanDuel favors Oklahoma by 6 1/2 points as of Monday morning, with an over-under of 46 1/2. Topics in the preview include: Oklahoma's John Matteer was everything the Sooners hoped in a 35-3 win over Illinois State, going 30-for-37 with 392 passing yards, one interception and one touchdown. Matteer's favorite target was Southern Illinois transfer Keontez Lewis, who caught nine balls for 119 yards and two scores. Running back Jadyn Ott, hampered with injuries in fall camp, carried the ball just once for three yards, but should have a bigger role this week. The Wolverines won a closer-than-it-should-have-been game with New Mexico by a 34-17 score in the opener. However, the score was a bit deceiving as Michigan out-gained the Lobos 7.2 yards per play to 3.6. Michigan's defense is loaded with pro prospects, including edge Derek Moore and DL Rayshawn Benny, who are potential top-2-round picks in the coming draft. Michigan cornerback Jyaire Hill a top-four-round prospect too, and safeties TJ Metcalfe and Rod Moore are also draft-able prospects Michigan linebacker Jaishawn Barham, a preseason first team all-Big 10 pick, did play but recorded no stats as he was ejected for targeting. His appeal was denied, meaning, he'll miss the first half of this game. Michigan linebacker Ernest Hausmann led the team with 8 tackles vs. New Mexico. He was Phil Steele's pick on his preseason 2nd-team all-Big 10 team. Wolverines' coach Sherrone Moore will coach this one, and will serve his two-game, NCAA-mandated suspension later in September. Michigan's offense is led by talented freshman Bryce Underwood, who'll have his first road test as a collegiate. Alabama transfer Justice Haynes was Michigan's offensive MVP last week, rushing 15 times for 159 yards and three touchdowns. The Sooners are stout in the trenches with R Mason Thomas, Gracen Halton, David Stone and others leading a very talented front seven. Grant's feeling a bit more hopeful about the 2025 season lately, while Lee talks about having reasonable hope compared to blind hope. Nevertheless the vibes coming out of spring ball have been pretty good, particularly surrounding the WRs. Grant says it's reasonable to be excited about many parts of the roster, but there are 3-4 position groups with serious questions (2:05). We watched practice video of pass catchers taking on DBs in 1-on-1s and we've got a lot of thoughts. Probably the most we've talked about the tight ends in a long time (18:20). We also got 1-on-1s of the O-Line taking on the D-Line. Several practice thoughts commence. It seems reasonable to expect David Stone to make a jump based on the evidence on hand (37:35). It appears Lee's conspiracy theory about Gentry Williams was wrong (50:05). Brent Venables appeared with Josh Pate in a recent interview. Lee has many thoughts-- most of them negative, but we did learn at least a couple of things (53:40). Trae Young is now the assistant GM for men's basketball, but what does that mean? Rants about players transferring all the time (1:10:20). Lamenting the death of the traditional spring game (1:19:30). | Like the show on Facebook: @westofeverest | Follow Grant on Twitter: @GrantBenson25 | Follow Lee on Twitter: @LeeBensonTweets
After some brief basketball talk the guys get to talking about the ramifications of Jayden Gibson suffering a small setback in his recovery from his knee injury (1:50). Javonnie Gibson has a lot of people talking early in spring practice. Is this real (16:00)? We're all rooting for Jaren Kanak to be a good tight end (21:20). Who knows what's going to happen with the running back room (28:15)? Grant's excited about what he's heard about Troy Everett. Lee wants to know if it's okay to be positive about the offensive line again (32:50)? Let's talk about David Stone and what the defensive line could look like, but we must remind everybody that OU's secondary is a problem. And Grant wants to talk about Taylor Heim (41:15). Breaking down John Mateer's performance against Hawaii in Week 8 of the 2024 season. The stats were terrific (47:50). We give some love to the OU men's basketball team who looks to be on their way to the NCAA Tournament (57:45). | Like the show on Facebook: @westofeverest | Follow Grant on Twitter: @GrantBenson25 | Follow Lee on Twitter: @LeeBensonTweets

Hey everyone, Jon M. Chu's Wicked - actually titled Wicked: Part I in the movie - has now hit theaters. To let you know right upfront, I'm not necessarily the biggest musical guy and witchcraft fantasy stuff has never been a genre of film & TV that I've ever been interested in. Plus, I have never seen the broadway play so have virtually no connection to the source material. To add fuel to the fire, I also thought the trailers were pretty bad... which is why I was bamboozled when the first reviews came out absolutely praising this movie to high heavens. I have now seen the film. Is it overhyped or legitimately Best Picture worthy? Find out in this review! Wicked: Directed by: Jon M. Chu Screenplay by: Winnie Holzman and Dana Fox Musical Book by: Winnie Holzman From the novel by: Gregory Maguire Produced by: David Stone, Marc Platt Executive Producers: Dana Fox, Winnie Holzman, Jared LeBoff, David Nicksay, Stephen Schwartz Music by: John Powell, Stephen Schwartz Cinematography by: Alice Brooks Editing by: Myron Kerstein Casting by: Tiffany Little Canfield, Bernard Telsey Production Design by: Nathan Crowley Costume Design by: Paul Tazewell Cast: Cynthia Erivo, Ariana Grande, Jonathan Bailey, Michelle Yeoh, Jeff Goldblum Synopsis: Elphaba, an ostracized but defiant girl born with green skin, and Glinda, a privileged aristocrat born popular, become extremely unlikely friends in the magical Land of Oz. There were a lot of positive vibes flowing at OU spring practice this week, but unfortunately the biggest news is that center Troy Everett is injured and will be out until at least the beginning of the season (1:30). The offensive line and the defensive line have the most question marks on the team going into 2024. Venables did have a lot of positive things to say about the DL this week at practice (10:30). We continue to hear great things about Jayden Jackson and David Stone (17:25). The LBs are in much better shape today compared to where the Sooners were in the spring of 2022 (20:30). It sure sounds like the secondary is looking great -- but we are still skeptical that they'll be able to play sound, consistent zone defense. Plus additional thoughts on Kendel Dolby, Woodi Washington, and can OU implement the Iowa State umbrella-style defense at times in the SEC (27:15)? Grant talks a little bit about the QB room and we both figure out that Davis Beville is now playing at South Carolina. Lee had to be reminded recently that OU is still not technically in the SEC yet (37:40). Let's talk about ESPN's rankings of the top 10 head coaches for 2024. Who's too high? Who's too low? Who should be on the list? What if they did a top 10 worst coaches (42:15)? We finish up with OU men's basketball talk after basically the entire team is portaling (1:02:00). | Like the show on Facebook: @westofeverest | Follow Grant on Twitter: @GrantBenson25 | Follow Lee on Twitter: @LeeBensonTweets
Brent Venables opened up practice for quite a long time to the media this week. Plus many players conducted interviews, including Jovantae Barnes. We begin the show by jumping into Barnes and what the heck is going on with his foot and his potential availability for the 2024 season. Lee goes through the timeline of his foot injury dating back to last spring and we try to figure out if he's ever going to be healthy--or maybe Barnes just simply isn't very good (3:00). Grant points out that the two players atop the RB depth chart are injury prone, so potentially all RBs have a chance to get some run this year. We relitigate the final quarter of the Kansas game and ask why Barnes was in the game and not Gavin Sawchuk? We also continue to question DeMarco Murray's management of that room (17:20). We move over to Jackson Arnold and what he's working on this spring. Is he really off of social media? Grant is expecting a big season from Arnold, but Lee can't help but think of the worst case scenario. What if Jackson Arnold plays as well as Spencer Rattler played in his RS-Freshman year? Would we take that (30:15)? I think we continue to get evidence the TE room is much better than it was a season ago. Thoughts on Davon Mitchell and Kaden Helms (40:45). David Stone and Jayden Jackson are making really good first impressions (47:40). I think we learned a lot from Dasan McCullough's availability this week. Grant's afraid he does not have a true position anymore, while Lee is hoping that maybe Will LB is a spot that can allow McCullough to contribute and make plays (53:40). Woodi Washington is repping at basically every secondary position. Lee's not sure this is a good thing for Woodi. Grant wants to remind everybody that while OU's secondary looks to have a lot of depth, the pass defense was still bad in 2023 (1:00:30). All we're getting is good vibes from Zac Alley and it sounds like he's simplifying the defene for everybody. Does that sound too much like Alex Grinch's Speed D (1:12:00)? Thoughts on Justin Harrington and his recovery from injury. Grant wants to make sure he brings up Deion Burks and the rave reviews he's been getting. Plus there were reports that Troy Everett suffered some sort of an injury this week (1:17:00). Lastly, Lee doesn't care at all to hear about Casey Thompson right now. Grant defends Casey (1:24:50). | Like the show on Facebook: @westofeverest | Follow Grant on Twitter: @GrantBenson25 | Follow Lee on Twitter: @LeeBensonTweets
We open the show by talking about what's coming up, plus Daylight Savings Time. We move on to Brent Venables' pre-Spring press conference where we learned that Justin Harrington won his appeal with the NCAA. Also some thoughts on Andrel Anthony (5:00). We've learned how to pronounce some new names, OU's hired a new offensive analyst, Venables had some thoughts on new co-DC Zac Alley, and Venables has improved as a speaker since becoming OU's head coach (9:40). There seems to be quite a bit of mid-year enrollees. Thoughts on David Stone and Jayden Jackson, Venables on a "General Manager", and what about the proposed rules involving comms inside player helmets, and a 2-minute warning (17:35). Venables on the defensive line as a whole, the offensive line, and the TE run (29:40). Did Venables hint at something that may change on special teams? There's going to be plenty of competition at kicker (40:00). Venables said Jalil Farooq has had a terrific offseason, as well as Jayden Gibson. More thoughts on the WRs (45:00). We shift to the player interviews where we learned that David Stone wants to be a neurosurgeon. Thoughts on Deion Burks, Sam Franklin, Bauer Sharp, Davon Mitchell, and Lee's jumping on the Danny Okoye bandwagon (48:00). We address a couple of comments from the WoE Facebook involving a former OU D-line commit, and one listener's thoughts on Lamar Jackson (1:09:00). We talk about Arch Manning opting out of the upcoming video game. Apparently EA Sports will not let you edit in the names of players who opt out (1:16:40). Taking a look at ESPN's Top 10 QBs for the 2024 season. Grant says this list shows it's a down year for QBs. Also some brief thoughts on the Top 10 RBs list (1:24:15). Finally, we wrap up the show with our latest thoughts on the OU men's basketball team (1:33:25).
