JACK DRAPER! Need we say more. Ok if we must… We're halfway into the Sunshine Swing and it's been a very memorable couple of weeks for two individuals out in the desert of Palm Springs at Indian Wells. Join Joel, Kim and Chris as they get giddy with excitement over how the Brit secured the biggest title of his career to date whilst moving into the Top 10 rankings for the first time, in help thanks to a semifinal win over Carlos Alcaraz. The trio also ponder whether he is a genuine Major contender, could it happen at Wimbledon and is an ATP Tour Finals appearance on the cards. And it was just as blockbuster in the women's event as Mirra Andreeva kept up her hot streak with back-to-back W1000 titles by getting the better of World Number 1 Aryna Sabalenka in the final. The gang discuss just where the seventeen (!) year old sensation could go next and whether a No. 1 ranking is possible this season. They also look at what's going on with Iga Swiatek as she let frustration spill out onto court with a ball bash towards a ball boy that left her without reaching a tour level final for ten months and counting. We also look ahead to the Miami Open with mens and womens draw previews, the usual spicy predictions and discuss Rafael Nadal's sit down chat with Andy Roddick and decide for ourselves just what was Rafa's second best surface. He thinks grass - we're not so sure. An exploration of the ongoing debate surrounding professional doubles and its future. In this episode, I directly address the recent comments about doubles from Andy Roddick and Jon Wertheim on the Served Podcast, ignited by Reilly Opelka. I also created a separate video addressing the issue (see links in show notes below).I believe one of the problems we face is that there has been an echo chamber culture around the doubles debate. We need people with different opinions to come together for conversations that create change. While I haven't been able to get Andy, Jon, or Reilly on the podcast yet, I thought this was the next best thing. Here's what I attempt to cover.Where I agree and disagree with Andy & JonWhy doubles does have a "user education" problemThe "business case" for doubles specialistsWhy other sports like professional driving or golf can helpThe economics of doubles at the majors vs 250's & 500's (a topic I'm still trying to understand)My vision for a future doubles tourI hope this episode helps keep the conversation going and creates positive change for tennis. I certainly don't have all the answers, but if we can have productive debates and explore solutions tennis will benefit.Show Notes:Opelka's Initial Comments on InstagramAndy & Jon's Reaction on the Served Podcast (minute 25)My 7-minute Video on how a consulting firm might view doubles-----**Join the #1 Doubles Strategy Newsletter for Club Tennis Players** New doubles strategy lessons weekly straight to your inbox**Become a Tennis Tribe Member**Tennis Tribe Members get access to premium video lessons, a monthly member-only webinar, doubles strategy Ebooks & Courses, exclusive discounts on tennis gear, and more.Learn More & Sign Up Here**Other Free Doubles Content**Serve Strategy CheatsheetReturn Strategy CheatsheetServe Strategy 101 - Video Course

Roddick, the last American male to win a major when he won the U.S. Open has become a huge golf enthusiast since his playing days ended. He talked about his love for golf, the similarities and differences between it and tennis and the quest as an athlete without a team on the court with you and how different that is. He also talked about his involvement in Intown Club and Sweeten's Cove, the latter as it relates to its journey into golf lore via social media. Diaz discussed what is next for Tiger Woods as his elder statesman role evolves. He dove into all that he has left to give the game as the ultimate competitor and champion.
These segments with Andy Roddick were part of the 5 Clubs on Golf Channel show from Tuesday, January 14 and have been separated into one audio podcast. Roddick joined Gary Williams in studio and dove into a number of topics from his love of golf, the relationships he's made through the sport and its similarities and differences between tennis and golf. As a Hall of Famer he provides perspective on the unique challenges for athletes that are not part of larger teams when on the court or course and how that even impacted the end of his career. Roddick who is also part owner of Sweetens Cove and Intown Club discussed how he got involved in both of those projects.
