Episode 21:51 Our Biggest Takeaways From 2021 Merry Christmas! This certainly is “the most wonderful time of the year.” It's also a good time to reflect on all we've learned this year… specifically with regard to health. So that's what we did. We looked at all of this year's podcast episodes and then chose the three topics we felt were most important. Our biggest takeaways. Not surprisingly, they were all related to Covid: 1) Vaccines did NOT stop the Coronavirus. 2) Effective treatments for Covid have been intentionally withheld. 3) The vaccine was NOT created for the virus… the virus was created for the vaccine. Please give this episode a good listen as we have a lot to say about each of these takeaways. Why they are important… and why they are true! Also, THANK YOU for being a listener of the podcast. Because of you, we are now ranked in the top 2.5% of ALL podcasts! It's true. The Get Healthy Alabama podcast is more popular than 97.5% of all the podcasts in the world! All because of you! If you don't know how your business is performing in key areas, then you have no basis for growth and making improvements, or any idea of whether or not your membership site is doing well or if it's in trouble. Worryingly, our Online Membership Industry Report revealed that 14% of membership site owners aren't tracking their KPIs (Key Performance Indicators) at all. And an even greater number only track a few key metrics!  This is something that needs to change.  So if you're currently not tracking metrics on your site or are measuring some, but are not sure if they're the ones you should be focusing on, then this episode of The Membership Guys podcast is for you. Join us as we explore KPIs that every membership website should be tracking.  Essential Learning Points: Different metrics to focus on for analyzing website traffic and activity  Why you need to have an in-depth understanding of your conversion rates How your churn rate impacts member retention and why you should aim for 5% to 10% Why it's crucial to measure the percentage of trial participants who become paid members How to measure the lifetime value of your members Recommended tools for reporting on member engagement Why you should track customer acquisition cost  Important Links & Mentions: https://www.membershipacademy.com/ (Membership Academy) https://www.themembershipguys.com/membership-benchmarks/ (Biggest Takeaways from the Online Membership Industry Report) https://www.themembershipguys.com/tools-reducing-membership-churn/ (The Most Effective Tools for Reducing Your Membership Churn) https://www.themembershipguys.com/member-lifetime-value/ (Why Member Lifetime Value is More Important Than Churn Rate) Key Quotes: “If you don't know how your business is performing in key areas then you have no basis for growth, for making improvements or knowing whether or not your membership site is doing well or if it's in trouble” “Member retention is as important, if not more so, than acquiring new members.” “What really matters in business is the overall profit that you're making. As the old saying goes, turnover is vanity, profit is sanity.” “Knowing that lifetime value means that when planning, advertising campaigns or any of the marketing spend, you can more accurately assess your return on investment.”

Gavin Timms has had a crazy 7 days, but he's back in his RV to record a podcast with us. As a real estate investor, he has some big takeaways, especially from the mastermind event. The mastermind event he went to, despite the unforeseen flight delays, was attended by some of the biggest names in real estate. And in these masterminds, there are key presentations and then there's networking. Gavin loves the presentations because he can always learn something new to implement as well as be reminded of things that we DON'T want to happen to our businesses. Then, my most favorite part of the event comes – networking. While Gavin and I believe that the presentations are great, I personally think the essence of these events is the networking opportunity. The breakout sessions, the mini dinners, and the random hallway conversations is really where the magic happens. I stress this all the time but networking is really the meat of this business. The more you build relationships with not only your clients but with other people in the industry as well, the more you have traction for deals. As they say, your network is your net worth. After the mastermind event, Gavin flew to Phoenix to meet with some other top YouTubers. And while he didn't get to speak to all of them, most of the ones he did talk to told him the same thing: they've been doing this for 5-6 years consistently before they started earning. They show up every day, year after year, and for them, it's harder to go from 0 to 10k than it is to go from 10k to a million subscribers. It's the same for real estate; you have to show up consistently to make anything out of it or be anyone in the business. You have to be in it for the long haul, you have to be doing something every day and you have to be consistent. I'm talking about building a business that serves you; where you have a goal that the business fits and works around. Remember, it's all about working ON the business, not IN the business. What's Inside:—Learn the things you need to do and the things NOT to do.—Your network is your net worth.—Be consistent and put the work in every day.—Build a business that serves you.

Have you ever fallen into the trap of taking any job that pays? While it's healthy to try a bunch of different stuff to see what you enjoy, you also don't want to spread yourself too thin. Today's guest explains all these considerations and what he learned while building his video business. Key Takeaways Setting expirations for proposals and bids will push clients to act faster and allow you to get more work done in a shorter time frame. If you have a partnership between multiple people, make sure that one person is a majority owner. That way hard decisions will ultimately fall to just one person and impasses can be more easily avoided. About Guy Giaimo-McClung Guy has been filming since 2012 in one avenue or another. Today, he is the owner and operator of Skinikid Productions. From wedding videography to political and industrial work, he has experienced many different facets of the freelance world. He is currently working on the challenge of building a business while balancing the demands of family life and parenting. Being Clear with Clients From the Start In this episode, Guy and I discuss the importance of setting proper expectations for clients. In order to eliminate unnecessary work for both you and them, be clear on your process from the very beginning. For instance, communicating your revision process and timeline will ensure that you're not working endlessly on a project. One way to do this is to set expiration dates for proposals. You don't want clients sitting endlessly on a bid. Let them know from the start that they need to act by a certain date if they want the price you quoted. It also gives an extra incentive for them to work with you now rather than later. Considerations When Forming Partnerships Guy also explains the structure of his business, which is a partnership between him and one other person. These arrangements have a lot of benefits. But they can also be fraught with potential strife. I share my advice that one person should be the majority owner. That way, bickering, and standoffs can more easily be avoided when tough decisions arise. I also urge anyone entering into a partnership to prepare for its possible end. No matter how awesome working together may seem at the start, it's best to have all eventualities covered. Having contingencies planned for and expectations set from the start will prevent possible complications and strife further down the road. What do you always communicate to clients to set proper expectations? Do you provide statements of work? How do they help you avoid issues with clients later on? Leave a comment on the episode page! In This Episode: Balancing work and family life while starting and building your business [6:00] Learning what type of work fulfills you the most [9:00] Our responsibility to communicate the process and set expectations for clients [11:50] Building partnerships as you grow your business [17:00] The importance of segmenting and having specific language around your niche [23:20] Doing extra freelancing work that you're passionate about [28:30] Learning how to learn from your mistakes as your business grows [33:00] Quotes “It's been super beneficial to narrow down the type of work that I like to do, and probably more importantly, the type of work that I don't like to do.” [10:04] “If clients have a timeline that they're trying to get this done by, we have this bit of time open for now. It's not yours until you sign the contract.” [15:45] “In retrospect, I feel that I really would have appreciated if I'd made the effort and invested in myself and went out and figured out how to make it happen and learned on the business end what I didn't know.” [33:45] Links: Join the Grow Your Video Business Facebook Group Core Find Guy Giamo-McClung online Follow Guy on Twitter | Instagram | Facebook Additional Links: Check out the full show notes page Do you have something to share on this podcast? It has been a crazy 7 days and I'm back in my RV in Michigan as I recorded this. As a real estate investor, I have been busy with other things like being a mastermind, arranged an assisted living setup for my wife's mother, premiered a new TV show with Pace and Jamil, and flew back. And with all the crazy 7 days behind me, I have some big takeaways, especially from the mastermind event. The mastermind event I went to, despite the unforeseen flight delays, was a great basin of the biggest names in real estate. Almost everyone who's anyone in the real estate industry was there. And in these masterminds, there are key presentations and then there's networking. I love the presentations because I can always learn something new to implement to the way I do my coaching and real estate business or be reminded of things that I DON'T want to happen to my business. Then, the good part and probably my most favorite part of the event comes – networking. While I believe that the presentations are great, I personally think the essence of these events is the networking opportunity. The breakout sessions, the mini dinners, and the random hallway conversations are really where the magic happens. I stress this all the time but networking is really the meat of this business. The more you build relationships with not only your clients but with other people in the industry as well, the more you have traction for deals. As they say, your network is your net worth. So, then I fly into Phoenix after the mastermind and there I met so many YouTubers who have mind-blowing numbers. And while I didn't get to speak to all of them, most of the ones I spoke with told me the same thing: they've been doing this for 5-6 years consistently before they started earning. What's Inside: Learn things that you need to do and learn things that you DON'T want to do.Your network is your net worth. Be consistent and show up every day. Build a business that serves you. Mentioned in this episode: REI Network on YouTubeGavin on Instagram

Holy cow! This is episode 250 of the Grow Your Video Business podcast. Five years ago, my buddy Matt and I started this show to help video makers succeed as business owners. It's been an amazing journey. For today's special episode, I want to share the three biggest takeaways I've learned from hosting five years of this podcast. Key Takeaways Your core values are what give your business direction. They're how you structure your company and must be at the center of how you build your team. Having systems and structures in place for your business will allow you to stay on mission when the unexpected occurs. Why You and Your Business Need Core Values Identifying what you want to drive your business is critical. At my studio, knowing our core values has given me clarity on who I want on my team and what we are ultimately striving for.  Your core values should be at the center of how you build your team. When you begin hiring and firing according to our core values, it will find its way into your company culture. It will influence how you interact with clients and complete projects. It will make your job easier by giving you something to measure success against. Have a Vision and the Structure to Put it into Action Having core values is just the start. Part of success is being focused and clear on what you want as a business. Build a plan around that clarity that includes the accountability to get you there. But if you're the business' visionary, you'll likely have more ideas than can be practically put into action. I describe the EOS model and how it provides a framework for applying your business' ideas in practical and productive ways. Becoming the Master of Your Time One thing I've noticed since starting my business is that time moves quickly. The longer I've been a business owner, the more time I've wanted to free up for myself. I want more time with my family and to pursue the things I love.  To this end, I've done my best to make myself redundant at work. I want my business to run efficiently without me. That's why we've created packages and automated systems that allow me to step away from a lot of the responsibility of day-to-day operations. What have you learned by listening to this podcast? How do your core values impact your company? Leave a comment on the episode page! In This Episode: How this podcast and Studio Sherpas got their start [2:00] The importance of having core values [13:20] Having the structures in place to implement your vision [24:00] The importance of time management to create more freedom for yourself [29:00] Quotes “This has transformed my life and business. I've been able to interview people - to sit at the feet of so many incredibly smart and talented people.” [10:39] “Nail down some core values that you would be able to say are requirements for working here. Hire and fire by these core values.” [23:47] “You don't have to be the bottleneck in your business. There are other ways to build a business. Granted, you might be the most amazing, creative director that there is. That's awesome. And you can build on that and not always be the one on call.” [32:05] “I'm getting more used to this idea of delegating and hiring other people to do what they are an expert at. That is allowing me to stay in my zone of genius.” [40:47] Links: Core The E-Myth The Ideal Team Player by Patrick Lencioni Traction by Gino Wickman Additional Links: Check out the full show notes page Do you have something to share on this podcast? Get the behind-the-scenes inside scoop on what went right (and wrong) at T&C 2021.   In today's episode, co-hosts Roland Frasier and Ryan Deiss pull back the curtain and take a very honest look at what it's like to pull together a huge conference not only during a pandemic, but when your celebrity guest pulls out at the last minute.   Before they share those details—and what you can learn from them—don't miss the opportunity to be part of what's coming up next. You're invited to Scalable Impact Live on November 2-3, 2021. It's an event like no other. Roland, Ryan, and Richard will be up close and personal, workshop style, teaching cool stuff, helping you network with amazing people, and getting actual work done. Register here TODAY.   Now listen in as the hosts describe a very intense three days at T&C.   A Last-Minute Scramble for a Celebrity Guest Traffic & Conversion Summit celebrated its 10th anniversary in 2019. Then it got canceled in 2020 because of Covid. Roland and Ryan and their team had high hopes for T&C 2021, with fingers crossed that Covid would be a thing of the past. Their goal was 10k in attendance, a new T&C record.   Then, the week they announced the event—and celebrity guests Snoop Dogg and Martha Stewart—the Delta variant was all over the news. Their timing could not have been worse.    Then, on the first day of the event, Roland got a call that Snoop was sick and couldn't make it. How were they going to deliver a great experience to their guests without him? They had to decide on the spot whether they'd cancel him altogether or keep him for next year. They decided to keep him. And had a day and half to find a comparable replacement.   Meanwhile, Ryan was having recurring nightmares and waking up in cold sweats about walking out to do the keynote at a sold-out event with no one in the audience. On the actual day, backstage, waiting to walk out, he had a near panic attack and texted Roland. (His keynote fortunately went great.)   Roland Gets the Job Done Ryan is very impressed by Roland's seeming unflappability in times of great stress. When Snoop Dogg canceled, Roland called in every favor he possibly could and came up with a list of 22 possible replacements. They narrowed it down to Gwyneth Paltrow and Magic Johnson and decided on Magic. Roland wrote the contract on his laptop on the way to the conference center.    That night he slept from 1am to 3am, because he had to cram on Magic interviews and his book, so he could craft a list of questions they'd be asking him (per his PR team's requirements).    Ryan says Roland is suck it up, buttercup, and never looking for pity. He just gets the job done. When crap goes sideways, it's a reason to sleep less, but not to give up. You make the thing every bit of what you promised it would be to the people who have invested their time and money to come.    Roland shouts out Martha Stewart for being a suck-it-up person as well. She had just gotten out of the hospital from surgery on her broken ankle. Her doctor told her not to move, but she wasn't going to back out of the job she signed up for. She had someone helping her walk, but she showed up, and she delivered in a big way.   When Bad Things Happen, Freak Out for a Minute, Then Deliver Not everyone can be as calm as Roland Frasier, but a good leader needs to stay calm enough to lead the team and make things right for the customers. Ryan noticed that some people on the team were able to do this and pursue solutions. Others seemed drawn to the drama and just added to it. Those people probably weren't ready for a leadership position.   Ryan also admitted that he had a general sense of disappointment during the whole T&C event. He later realized he was comparing this year's event to the picture he had in his mind of what T&C 2021 would have been if there was no pandemic. This is an incredibly unhealthy and unhelpful mindset to have.   He told his wife Emily and she said, “I don't understand. Everyone else seems pretty happy.” And they were. The trade floor was elevated. It looked amazing. There were people all over the place. It was popping. The VIP area was great. Vendors were thrilled. Martha Stewart and Magic Johnson were awesome.   Ryan realized his comparison wasn't fair to himself or to those who were busting their tails to put on a great event. Or to the customers who were frankly enjoying themselves and getting tremendous value from it. In retrospect, he's really proud of the team and the content and product they put out there.   The Biggest Takeaways   Roland says don't panic; just move forward. Everyone did whatever it took. So many people worked their butts off, double time, triple time, didn't sleep, to bring this event to life. Difficult times build resilience muscle, scar tissue. It's the only way to do it. Now they know that, if they have a celebrity drop at the last minute, they can get through it.    Every bad thing leads to a better thing. Snoop will come in next year from a good place. They developed a relationship with Magic and talked to him about working with their foundation and DigitalMarketer.    Ryan realized how much his personal ego was wrapped up in stuff. He was worried about low numbers, because he didn't want to look dumb. If you're afraid of something, haven't taken that action, launched that product, made that sales call, how much of it is wrapped in your actual concerns about the business and how much of it is your ego?   If you're ever at a live event, focus on delivering the absolute best performance you can with the people you've got. Don't get all bent out of shape. Get to work. Do your job. Stop making it about you. If you impact one person in the audience, you had a huge win. Because it was a huge win for them.    OUR PARTNERS:  Scalable Impact Live (November 2-3, 2021) Newsletter Pros BKA Content Ready to Lead
