Jazz releases these day fight a game of inches. Almost everybody releasing music in the genre is technically accomplished and the rules have been laid out so long that almost everybody knows how to meet the listener's basic expectations. What makes an album stand out in the flood of new music unleashed every week? Sometimes it's as simple (and hard to define) as a sense of intensity, commitment, energy. These four 2024 releases all demonstrate that quality to one degree or another. Erik Friedlander – DIRTY BOXING: Deron Johnson – FREE TO DANCE; Michael Eaton – THE PHENOMINAL; Basher – MAY DAY.
Last night's Mets game was a little weird. It's not every day that Max Scherzer takes a no-hitter into the fifth inning, then leaves the game after that fifth inning even though all he gave up was a little single to Ha-Seong Kim. The 11-pitch strikeout of Austin Nola to end the fifth took Scherzer's count up to 97 for the night, and in an April game where the 38-year-old issued six walks to go with his three strikeouts, the five scoreless innings equaled the limit. No problem for Buck Schowalter, because John Curtiss, Drew Smith, David Robertson, and Adam Ottavino combined to strikeout eight of the 16 batters they faced in the final four innings, allowing only three walks and a ninth-inning single to close out the 5-0 victory.Altogether, the Padres were 2-for-28 against Mets pitchers in the series opener, with 14 strikeouts. And that's where we start generating a fun Stathead list.Last night marked only the fourth time in Mets history that they have shut out an opponent, not allowed an extra-base hit, and recorded strikeouts in at least half of their foes' at-bats. Where does last night fit into Mets history? Here are the other three games on this particular list.April 18, 1970: Nolan Ryan never threw a no-hitter for the Mets, but he did record 27 outs in a row without giving up a hit in this game, led off by Phillies second baseman Denny Doyle with a single. Ryan walked Don Money, struck out John Briggs and Deron Johnson, walked Tim McCarver to load the bases, and then struck out Larry Hisle to get out of the first-inning jam. By the time Ryan got the ball back, he had a 3-0 lead… and completely shut down the Phils from there. Philadelphia batters went 1-for-29 with 15 strikeouts and six walks in the 7-0 New York romp.May 15, 1970: Tom Seaver gave up a third-inning single to Mike Compton, the Phillies' catcher, and got all the support he needed in the fourth inning when Woodie Fryman threw a wild pitch to score Donn Clendenon and Compton's throwing error on that play allowed Ron Swoboda to come around as well. Seaver went the distance, striking out 15 as host Philadelphia went 1-for-29 against him at Connie Mack Stadium.September 29, 2007: Game 161, when it seemed like maybe the Mets had figured it out and were going to salvage that season, a 13-0 demolition of the Marlins featuring two Lastings Milledge home runs and the Mets going 10-for-22 with runners in scoring position. On the mound, John Maine was nails, allowing only a pair of walks while taking a no-hitter into the eighth inning. Paul Hoover broke up the bid with a little infield single, ending Maine's outing with 14 strikeouts and two walks. Willie Collazo got Alejandro De Aza to fly out to end the top of the eighth, and then Carlos Muniz notched the staff's 15th strikeout of the day when he got Reggie Abercrombie to end the game. The Fish went 1-for-27, saving all their hits for the next day.Scherzer's early exit also is notable because it was the first time the Mets pulled a starter who'd given up one or no hits over the first five innings since Tylor Megill last April 29, in the Mets' combined no-hitter against the Phillies. Megill and Jacob deGrom each had two starts apiece like that in 2021. The last seven Mets pitchers to do this — Scherzer, Megill all three times, deGrom twice, and David Peterson on August 13, 2020 against Washington — have recorded the win, after no Mets pitcher had gotten a win in such a game in 12 years following a Maine five-and-fly in Washington back in 2008.Alongside Megill in getting pulled after five innings of no-hit ball? Sid Fernandez on May 15, 1987 against the Giants, when the lefty helped himself with an RBI triple but gave way to Doug Sisk with a 7-0 cushion in the sixth. Sisk gave up three runs, but Roger McDowell came through with the three-inning save. This is a public episode. Hello and welcome to the ZimmCast, I'm Chuck Zimmerman. The topic of this episode is the 2022 Agri-Marketing Conference which took place last week. Besides exhibiting in the Connection Point I was also taking photos for NAMA, over 500 of them which you can find in our online album. Just click on the Flickr icon on AgWired.com or AgNewsWire.com to find them. During the conference I recorded remarks from our industry award winners as well as interviewing the new president of NAMA, Deron Johnson, Curious Plot. The Golden ZimmComm Microphone was active in our Connection Point booth and I conducted interviews with a number of attendees and other exhibitors. You can find them all on the virtual newsroom on AgNewsWire.com. I'm going to share a number of these remarks and interviews with you in this week's program. That's the ZimmCast for this week. I hope you enjoyed it and thank you for listening.

On April 23, 1964, At Colt Stadium Ken Johnson of the Houston Colt .45s becomes the first major leaguer to hurl a nine-inning no-hitter and lose the game. The knuckleballing right-hander goes down to defeat, 1-0. Johnson throws widely on Pete Rose’s bunt attempt, and Rose was allowed to take second base and after a ground out, Second baseman Nellie Fox, usually a reliable defensive player, commits a critical run-scoring error on Vada Pinson’s groundball. Joe Nuxhall, did his part for the Reds, he came out for the bottom of the ninth, and got the first two outs quickly. Pete Runnels grounded the first for what should have been the third out, but Deron Johnson misplayed the ball. Houston was unable to take advantage of that second life, however, as Nuxhall struck out John Weekly to end the game. 1964 | April 23 | Cincinnati Reds | Colt Stadium | Houston Colt 45's | Joe Nuxhall | Ken Johnson | Nellie Fox | Pete Rose | Vada Pinson
When we think of the word brand, usually we think of a brand we have an affinity for. Possibly a vehicle manufacturer, sports team, phone or soda. You know the things that you'll pay extra for because you know what you are getting. The consistent quality, experience, fan experience or product you invest in. In the marketing world we work with brands on the back side of that equation. We think about what impression we want customers to feel when they experience our brand, what we want to them remember about our brand, why we want them to buy into our brand. Have you ever though about your own brand? What emotions you put out into the world, how people feel after knowing or working with you. In the second episode of Connect, Change & Challenge podcast, my guest is Deron Johnson, FLM Harvest Executive Vice President, Chief Brand Officer. Deron is not only an expert marketer and brand builder, but I also had the privilege of him being my first boss out of college. Fun fact, Deron and I met at National AgriMarketing Association, NAMA. After I interviewed with Deron, I got up and competed with my team in the collegiate competition. No pressure, but good news our team won, and I got the gig! Find out about our personal connection at 1:08. Deron was the first person to challenge me at my initial annual review to think about my personal brand. I was a year into my career and still wasn't sure what I wanted to be when I grew up. Deron's challenge was to think about my personal brand, who I was and how I wanted to grow. In this episode we talk about this starting at 4:00. Things change. We then go on to talk about the bold line that formerly separated our personal and professional lives is thin if even evident these days. Think about how your personal brand is viewed in your personal life and your professional life. Are they consistent? Do you have work to do on one side of the equation? How has the era of social media changed the separation of personal and private? We discuss this at 16:10. Finally, we move into the final segment of the podcast discussion, the challenge. Each week on the segment I'll leave you with a challenge to consider for your personal and professional development growth. The challenge for the Personal Brand podcast is to conduct a review of your personal brand, find both personal and professional contacts you can trust to do an evaluation. Part two, after you identify an evaluation of your brand, identify if there are areas for improvement and then create regular check ins with an accountability team. This group can be the same individuals that gave you the feedback at the beginning of the process or others that can give you helpful feedback but do so in a productive way. We discuss this at 25:42 in more detail. For more episodes or discussion visit https://stacymayomartinez.com/insights/personalbrand

Posteriormente, el 21 de enero de 2014, Severn lanzó otro álbum de Earl, Renewing Disguises. La portada de este álbum se basa en una caricatura de Earl dibujada por Dicky Barrett. I had a great conversation with Caleb Allen talking baseball and how the sport translates into great life lessons. Caleb Allen is the Varsity Baseball Hitting Coach at Westview High School in the Poway Unified School District. Caleb has served in various coaching roles at Poway High School, El Camino High School and San Diego Christian College. He also ran the San Diego Crush travel baseball program helping build a solid organization with a tremendous coaching staff. Caleb Allen is a protégé of local hitting guru Deron Johnson who has coached a long list of MLB players, minor leaguers and collegiate hitters. Johnson's approach is as much about mechanics as it is about the mental side of the game. Deron Johnson taught Caleb that the mechanical side can be built through the mental side. It's about coaching hitters on achieving certain feelings which ultimately gets the hitters executing the right mechanics. We explore how lessons taught in baseball are valuable in all parts of life. With hitting it is about having a plan, attacking and never giving in to the pitcher. Caleb highlighted the quote “never give up bat speed for making contact” which is another way of saying not to be tentative but instead give it everything you've got. Caleb Allen shared the story of Dylan Mulholland who tried out for his high school team multiple times and always got cut. But the kid loved baseball and he ended up making the team as a senior year. About 8 years later Caleb learned that Dylan was playing baseball professionally in Canada, working at a batting cage facility, planned a baseball game for his bachelor party and continues to live the baseball dream. We share more stories involving major leaguers Cole Hamels, Kevin Newman, Austin Wynns, Chris Bando and Sal Bando. We get into the crazy stories of out-of-control parents in club baseball and Caleb's challenges managing both players and parents. We get into Mike Matheny's Manifesto about the role parents should play in supporting their child in competitive sports. Caleb shares his own recruiting story and offers numerous tips for players and parents as they go through their own recruiting process. Westview opens up their 2019 season on Saturday February 16th against Grossmont High School. Caleb Allen Hitting Lessons: www.caleballenbaseball.com John Riley Project Info: Bookings? Inquiries? Twins scouting director Deron Johnson discusses who the Twins are looking to draft in the first round of the MLB Draft, what parents of a draft pick want to hear when a team is trying to sign the player, when to draft for need and more on a show all about the Draft.
With the release of his first solo CD effort, ‘Soul Searching’, and single ‘Genesis’, an instrumental jazz/funk fusion collection that interweaves music inspired by his much admired influences, Mitchell Coleman Jr has fulfilled a lifelong dream of creating the music he hears in his heart and feels in his soul – and sharing it with the world. The disc, independently released on his own Soul Revelation label , features some of L.A.’s funkiest players: his long-time collaborator and ‘Soul Searching’ co-producer, Hollywood (pulling triple-duty on piano and vocals), Deron Johnson (formerly with Miles Davis) is also on keyboards, Kayta Matsuno and Sean Fabian are on guitar, Tim Anderson and Sal Avila are on saxophones, while industry veterans and sisters, Pam and Joyce Vincent (formerly of Tony Orlando and Dawn) and Jim Gilstrap (the ‘Good Times’ TV show theme song singer) perform background vocals along with newcomers Sean Thomas and Nodesha.
My latest EP, "Everything to Me" marks a courageous and exhilarating step toward a more exposed and authentic sound. All five songs represent different facets of my faith in life, in humanity and in love. Putting these songs out into the world required the perfect collaboration, and I'm infinitely grateful that Jay Nash, a long time friend and musical peer, teamed up with me to produce this EP with such care and sensitivity. Jay has aimed to pare down the extraneous harmonies, effects and solos so that my voice, lyrics and fiddle playing can be wholly revealed, inviting you into a more intimate experience of me and my songs. Eliza Moors first CD with producer Scott Mann,Called "Simplicity," it's a compilation of songs I wrote in London. There was a lot of fun and magic in the making of it. A few years later I recorded my second, "Beauty in Mystery" in Los Angeles, with the brilliant producer and internationally acclaimed jazz musician Deron Johnson. Back in Montréal I performed and recorded with the experimental electro-punk band Swedish Radar and played fiddle and sang with the bluegrass/roots group Althea Jean. Both of these bands are still active, but babies, book tours (bandmate Curt Stager), boat building (bandmate Everett Smith) and other such events have created a few detours along the way. In 2010 I had my baby boy Xavier, and life became more about being with family and treasuring bath time and sand box play. Jeremy and I have continued to write and record material together in a group we call, "JE", but this EP marks my next step back out into the world as, well, myself.
