Steve remembers what it was like for a precocious young talent in the spotlight of the worlds media and how ignoring Pele's advice wasn't a good idea and neither was it a good idea to tell Chinaglia what he thought of him. From "The Best Of Talking Sports Books" with Tim Caple the first 50 editions the incredible tale of Steve Hunt born in Aston Birmingham who was told by then Aston Villa manager Ron Saunders "There's bloke in the canteen who wants to sign you and were letting you go" and that was it off he went to sign up for the New York Cosmos in the same team that had Pele, Beckenbauer and Chinaglia where he became part of the most glamorous team in world football. In this clip Steve recounts how the move happened , going to legendary "Studio 54 " and Pele. 'm with the Cosmos is Steve Hunt's story. After only seven first-team appearances for Aston Villa, he found himself playing with two of the greatest players of all time: Pele and Beckenbauer at New York Cosmos. He returned home to play for Coventry City and West Bromwich Albion and was capped twice by England. This is his story. Steve Hunt collaborated with Ian McCauley on his autobiography. Ian is a former teacher, now living on the Isle of Wight. This is his first book although he enjoys writing short stories for pleasure. In the latest episode of Science 4-Hire, I had a fascinating conversation with Steve Hunt, Chief Expert of Technology & Work at SAP. Together, we discussed Steve's latest book, Talent Techtonics, which provides a framework for our conversation. As he notes... “I wanted to talk about how work is changing, but not just trends like how hybrid work, but why is it changing? And that's where the phrase talent tectonics comes from, that the nature of work is fundamentally altered by underlying shifts like the tectonic plates. We can't see 'em move, but they're constantly moving. They change the surface of the earth and may create new experiences or topography such as earthquakes or mountain ranges. “ We discuss how these shifts can be viewed from a combination of elements that form a unique perspective. Namely, the role of humans in choosing and implementing HR technology and the impact these actions will have on the future of work. Steve offers his take on this in our latest episode: “From a psychological perspective So, the book goes through and looks at the perennial work challenges of how do we staff jobs, how do we design jobs, how do we pay people, how do we develop people? How do we engage people? But it looks at how do we need to do this more effectively leveraging technology to create more human environments, more supportive environments.” But the crux of Steve's unique perspective lies in the role that technology plays in achieving a more humanistic and productive workplace. In the episode, Steve emphasized the importance of using technology to augment human abilities and design job roles that align with individual skills and strengths. We delved into the application of assessment tools and machine learning in talent acquisition, development, and employee engagement. We also examined the role of operational and collaboration technologies in optimizing work environments. Steve highlighted the need for organizations to stay abreast of technological advancements and regularly reassess their HR processes to effectively leverage available tools. Throughout our conversation, we underscored the significance of considering individual differences, traits, and abilities. Steve explained how technology enables better assessment and understanding of employee attributes, leading to more tailored job roles and fostering employee growth within the company. As we wrapped up the episode, I emphasized the importance for HR professionals to stay informed about emerging technologies and critically evaluate their existing processes. We encouraged listeners to embrace technology's capabilities to drive positive change in HR practices, while never losing sight of the value of human connections and interactions. Join me in this thought-provoking episode of Science 4-Hire as Steve Hunt and I explore the transformative potential of HR technology in redefining work for the modern era.

Acomi and Turk182 are brought together to compete in a Let's Watch! rematch featuring South African karate master James Ryan. Consisting of three films, Kill Or Be Killed (1980), Kill and Kill Again (1981), and Space Mutiny (1988). Martial artist Steve Hunt (the Hunt comes before the Chase. See Let's Watch! Kill and Kill Again.), is hired by a Nazi to compete in a martial artist competition against his Japanese adversary, Miyagi. Having lost to Miyagi at the 1936 Olympics, the team leader needs Steve's expert skills to finally win. But, he's a Nazi, sooooooo... Join Acomi and Turk as they fight Nazis and apartheid by making fun of a movie that's more karah-tee than karah-tay. In this Let's Watch! competition it's either Kill or Be Killed! Due to an unforeseen mix-up - we'll blame Acomi - This Let's Watch! of a movie sequel was posted before the Let's Watch! of the first movie. Please, try your best to follow the intricate plot. Acomi and Turk182 dive head first into their James Ryan mini-marathon with the sequel to Kill or Be Killed (1977), Kill and Kill Again (1981). This time, martial arts "master" Steve Hunt is now Steve Chase, and instead of working for a Nazi, he's been hired to rescue a kidnapped scientist. Steve travels the globe to assemble a crew composed of former friends/allies, whom he has to either fight or convince to join him on his mission. The best of the best hires the not so best of the worst. But, they'll have to prove their worth to save Kandy Kane's father. Just let that last part sink in. We could tell you all about the mind control drug doctor Kane created that is being used by the bad guy. Or, how the only black man in the movie is named "Gorilla". Or, how this movie was made in South Africa during apartheid. But, why spoil the fun? Join Acomi and Turk as the learn the ancient ways of the martial arts, and the precise way to Kill and Kill Again! Some restructuring efforts have become notorious for favoring cost cutting over the employees who drove their success in the first place. We must develop better frameworks that value employees and facilitate learning from our past experiences to ensure restructuring is handled more equitably going forward. Joining me on this video podcast of #HRTechChat is Steve Hunt, chief expert, technology and work at SAP and author of best selling book “Talent Tectonics.” In this episode we share an outline of an upcoming research paper we are collaborating on about the “New Era of Restructuring: How Companies are Leveraging Innovations in Work Technology to Manage Restructuring Differently.” There was so much to unpack in a short time during the recording. We offer one definition of restructuring, three different reasons for restructuring, and seven different technology categories for managing restructuring differently. One of my favorite parts of the video podcast, besides singing ‘The Twelve Days of Restructuring', is when Steve calls it “almost crazy” to do restructuring without an organizational network analysis tool. “One of the most underutilized tools in the field of HR and restructuring … is organizational network analysis tools,” says Steve. “When you eliminate people based on organizational charts or spreadsheets, you have no idea what relationships are being destroyed or severely damaged. Some of the most critical people in the company are not necessarily the ones who have highly visible roles. Just because you know where someone sits does not mean you know the impact they have on people in other parts of the organization. It's almost crazy to do restructuring without [the organizational network analysis tools].” Our concluding comments are around embracing restructuring with the employee experience in mind. Steve shares “it is not putting employee needs above company needs, but at the same level.”

There's so much talk about building future ready organizations, but how do we know what the future looks like and build for it with intention? Understanding how we work, how work is changing, and how it can be designed is both a study in technology and in human psychology. Technology enhances AND limits our imagination when it comes to imagining how organizations can enable human performance. Humans, on the other hand, are the most resilient and adaptable organizational resources you have. People can literally change faster than technology, but their core human truths aren't as trendy as you think. The big question is: Do people NEED technology to perform, or does it get in the way? How does technology become a human performance multiplier? Steve Hunt is an avid student of the history of work, the role of technology, and the interplay of human psyche. If anyone can connect the dots, he can. We waited patiently for his book launch to bring him to you, and here we are! We welcomed Steve Hunt, PhD, Chief Expert of Technology and Work at SAP, and author of just-published Talent Tectonics to our Now of Work Community. Take a listen! Like the transformation from paper maps to modern-day GPS, the world of talent management needs a faster, reliable, more intelligent way to map out upskilling and learning opportunities for people. Steve Hunt, Ph.D., Chief Expert, Technology and Work at SAP, profoundly understands how technology transforms work. He joins The New Talent Code to discuss the intersection of psychology, work technology, and business performance. And why every organization needs to clearly map out a path for upskilling – or be left behind. Here are some key takeaways: - "There's a myth that people aren't good at change. That's completely wrong. The competitive niche of humans as a species is our ability to adapt to changing environments. We are really good at it.” - Steve Hunt [08:20] - "If you look at what artificial intelligence and machine learning tools are doing to the field of skills and skills ontologies, it's like what GPS did for maps. It's taking this knowledge and allowing us to more quickly update these things on the fly organically, like how Waze updates traffic patterns on the fly organically. As a result, it will enable employees to get much better insight into possible career paths in real-time.” - Steve Hunt [15:18] - "We don't want people thinking of employees as fixed assets. Instead, we want to constantly think of employees as something changing and growing over time.” - Steve Hunt [21:47]

The illustrated book can be read at https://makerojavagreenagain.org/book/ What is it about the social structures of Rojava that so inspires the fierce loyalty of its defenders and its people? This book answers that question. In language that bridges the Utopian and the concrete, the poetic and the everyday, the Internationalist Commune of Rojava has produced both a vision and a manual for what a free, ecological society can look like. In these pages you will find a philosophical introduction to the idea of social ecology, a theory that argues that only when we end the hierarchical relations between human beings (men over women, young over old, one ethnicity or religion over another) will we be able to heal our relationship with the natural world. Debbie Bookchin Make Rojava Green Again is an excellent book. Written comprehensively, it effectively outlines the fundamental causes of the climate crisis we currently face across the world. In simple terms, it sets out the fundamentals of the theory of ‘Social Ecology;' that domination of human over human, and capitalist modernity in its infinite drive for growth are responsible for ecological breakdown. Most importantly, this book serves as a profound manifesto of hope for those of us who are fearful for the future of this world. Surrounded by enemies on all borders, and torn by war, the international commune in Rojava still labors to restore the integrity of its ecology and natural environment; this surely is a source of inspiration and it shows that everywhere, in liberated societies, we may hope to preserve the natural fabric of our world. Tim Lewes Nevertheless, Make Rojava Green Again offers a positive vision of the ongoing social revolution taking place in the area. At a moment when the launch of Extinction Rebellion suggests that a resurgent ecology movement is appearing at home, these under-reported initiatives are a great inspiration. Given the immense scale of the ecological challenges facing us, it is often difficult to know where to concentrate efforts. So here are two suggestions. First, your own community, and second, global solidarity initiatives such as this one! This book will help to raise the profile of some hopeful green shoots of change. I used this title for the podcast because the gentlemen I asked to join me in a conversation, presented several times at The Great Conversation over the years. And he was always piercing the veil of convention to get to the truth. I called him a muckraker in the podcast. A little history: muckrakers were reform-minded journalists who reported on the irregularities in established institutions and leaders of their day. The term now references investigative journalism. Steve Hunt has always sought the truth. Our great conversation leverages his work with Communities of Excellence, online mentoring platform for security and cybersecurity professionals as well as his survey of over 400 organizations where he sought to understand what made them cyber resilient. What he found is a leadership lesson that you must hear to appreciate.
