On this episode of The Bandwich Tapes, I sit down with Mark Kibble of Take 6, a group whose music has been part of my life since the very beginning of my musical journey.   We start with a full-circle moment, me seeing Take 6 live as a teenager, and now getting to sit down and talk with Mark about his career, his process, and the music that continues to inspire him.We begin with his work on Pat Metheny's latest project, in which Mark contributed vocal arrangements that add an entirely new dimension to Pat's sound. Mark walks through the process, receiving tracks, interpreting harmonic language, and building a choir sound that fits seamlessly into a complex musical landscape.   From there, we zoom out and talk about what it means to be a collaborator, how Mark approaches working with other artists, what he listens for, and how he balances his own voice with the music's needs. His perspective is simple but profound: it's not about him. It's about making the music better. We spend time reflecting on the longevity of Take 6, how a group can stay together for decades, navigate challenges, and still maintain both musical excellence and deep personal relationships. Mark shares that their foundation goes far beyond music; it's rooted in purpose, faith, and a genuine commitment to each other as family.  We also talk about influence, how artists like Jacob Collier are carrying the torch forward, and how meaningful it is to see a new generation connect with the music that Take 6 has been making for decades. There are some great moments of reflection, too, working with legends like Joe Sample, collaborating with Lalah Hathaway, and the challenge (and joy) of continuing to grow as a vocalist over time.  We also get into vocal health, longevity, and what it takes to sustain a career at the highest level—physically, mentally, and creatively. This is a conversation about harmony in every sense of the word: musical, personal, and spiritual.Key TakeawaysMark Kibble breaks down how he approached arranging vocals for Pat Metheny's latest project. He shares why collaboration is about serving the artist—not showcasing yourself. The longevity of Take 6 is rooted in purpose, faith, and treating each other like family.Mark reflects on the group's influence on artists like Jacob Collier.Great arranging is about fitting into the music—not competing with it.Vocal longevity requires discipline, rest, and learning how to pace yourself.Coaching others reinforced the importance of finding your own authentic voice.Music from the EpisodeBiggest Part of Me - Take 6Don't Look Down - Pat MethenyU-Turn - Joe Sample with Take 6Someday We'll All Be Free - Take 6 with Lalah HathawayCome Unto Me - Take 6About the PodcastThe Bandwich Tapes is my chance to sit down with musicians, composers, and creative artists for honest conversations about the craft, the process, and the stories behind the music. Playlist: Seven Steps to Heaven Miles Davis (trompet), Ron Carter (bas), Anthony Williams, Frank Butler (drums), Herbie Hancock, Victor Feldman (piano), George Coleman (tenorsax), Nefertiti Miles Davis (trompet), Wayne Shorter (tenorsax), Tony Williams (drums), Ron Carter (bas), Herbie Hancock (piano) Boplicity Miles Davi (trompet), Lee Konitz (altsax), Gerry Mulligan (baritonsax), John Lewis (piano), Kenny Clark (drums), Nelson Boyd (bas)J.J. Johnson (trombone), Bill Barber (tuba) Milestones Miles Davis (trompet), John Coltrane (tenorsax), Cannonball Adderly (altsax), Red Garland (piano), Paul Chambers (bas), Philly Jo Jones (drums) Tutu Miles Davis (trompet), Marcus Miller (producer, instruments), George Duke (keyboards), Paulhinho da Costa (percussie) Amandla Miles Davis (trompet), Kenny Garrett (altsax), Marcus Miller (bas), Omar Hakim (drums), Joe Sample (keyboards) Human Nature Miles Davis (trompet), Darryll Jones (bas), Vince Wilburn jr. (drums), John Scofield (gitaar), Robert Irving III (keyboards), Round Midnight Miles Davis (trompet), John Coltrane (tenorsax), Cannonball Adderly (altsax), Red Garland (piano), Paul Chambers (bas), Philly Jo Jones (drums) Jam Session Miles Davis (trompet), Michel Legrand (piano), Jimmy Cleveland (trombone), Kenny Garrett (sax), Mark Rivett (gitaar), Alphonse Mouzon, Harvey Mason (drums), Benny Reitveld (bas) Een paar bespiegelingen…

In this episode, we unpack a tough question that hits both business and life: does loyalty still matter? We explore how a culture built on convenience, quick wins, and transactional thinking has changed the way people show up in partnerships, teams, and leadership - and how that impacts all aspects of business relationships. We talk about why loyalty is not automatic, why it has to be earned through performance, and why so many business relationships break down before trust has time to form. We also dig into the realities of leading in real estate, where low barriers to entry and independent contractor mindsets can make long-term commitment harder to build.Along the way, we share real examples of investing in people during hard seasons, only to wonder whether loyalty still exists on the other side. Our biggest takeaway: loyalty is built through clear expectations, consistent presence, emotional connection, and making people's lives easier in ways that truly matter. We Talk About:[00:00] Loyalty Is Disappearing in Plain Sight[03:57] Loyalty and Performance Go Hand in Hand[06:00] Business Is Turning More Transactional by the Day[07:34] The Right People Change Everything[10:48] The Grass Looks Greener Until You Leave[17:09] Make Their Life Easier and They Stay Longer[23:18] Loyalty Is Built Long Before the Closing Table[32:26] When the Money Runs Out, Loyalty Gets TestedResources:Learn more at The Color of MoneyListen to “When Your Life Was Low” by Joe Sample & Lalah HathawayBecome a real estate agent HEREConnect with Our HostsEmerick Peace:Instagram: @theemerickpeaceFacebook: facebook.com/emerickpeaceDaniel Dixon:Instagram: @dixonsolditFacebook: facebook.com/realdanieldixonLinkedIn: linkedin.com/in/dixonsolditYouTube: @dixongroupcompaniesJulia Lashay:Instagram: @iamjulialashayFacebook: facebook.com/growwithjuliaLinkedIn: linkedin.com/in/julialashay/YouTube: @JuliaLashayBo MenkitiInstagram: @bomenkitiFacebook: facebook.com/obiora.menkitiLinkedIn: linkedin.com/in/bomenkiti/Produced by NOVAThis podcast is for general informational purposes only. Today on the show I speak with 'The Daywalkers' band leaders - Alex Harris MacDonald (vocals/washboard) + Janson Lohmeyer keyboardist/vocals.This was a tough interview for me to post because unfortunately Janson Lohmeyer tragically passed away, only a few days after we had this conversation. I wrestled with myself as to whether or not I should still put it out, but ultimately decided I would - as I believe it could serve as a nice reminder to all of us that knew Janson, as to what a kind soul he truly was. Over the decades 'The Daywalkers' (who fuse Louisiana Roots Music with Cajun, Pop and Zydeco) have developed a reputation as a high quality live band, attracting visiting from all over the world to see the group while visiting the city of New Orleans.Among many notable accolades, the band have released three albums of original material and individually, Janson has appeared on releases by Adam Duritz (Counting Crows), Lucinda Williams and Susan Cowsill. While Alex has held residencies at various Blue Note Jazz Venues with Joe Sample in Japan, has been inducted into the Zydeco Blues Trailride Hall Of Fame class and toured extensively with Louisiana favorite Dwayne Dopsie.During our conversation, we talk about the Bourbon Street scene, hurricane Katrina, musicians healthcare, touring and an array of other topics. For more information on 'The Daywalkers' please visit www.thedaywalkersneworleans.com or visit the band on Facebook.Once again, my deepest condolences to the Lohmeyer family and all of Janson's bandmates and family for the massive loss experienced by his passing. For further information on Travis Marc or 'Musicians-Mentor' website, please visit www.musicians-mentor.com As usual, thanks for checking out the channel and if you're getting anything useful from my content, please feel free to comment, like, share and subscribe, thank you. Episode 115. Join host Troy Saunders as he chats with writer, producer, multi instrumentalist, pianist, Jesse Thompson!Born and raised in Dayton, Ohio, known in music circles as the land of funk, Jesse Thompson couldn't help but be influenced by the city's great R&B pioneers – including Slave, Ohio Players, Lakeside and Zapp featuring Roger Troutman. For the past 20 years, the multi-talented composer, pianist and keyboardist manifested these inspirations – and helped bring the legacies of these legendary bands forward – as a former member of the popular and prolific, constantly gigging Columbus-based R&B/jazz ensemble NexLevel.Unlike many longtime band members and sidemen who work towards someday expressing themselves as solo artists, Thompson was content with his existing whirlwind of activity playing with others. But when the pandemic hit, he instinctively used his down time to, as he says, “sow a seed of happiness” to create “Weekend Groove” – an irrepressible Next-Gen disco vibin' house beat driven track featuring flutist Althea Rene and a horn section by Kelly O'Donohue that ultimately became the lead single to his uniquely titled debut album The Inauguration of Jtjazz (Jesse Thompson the Man Behind the Keys). Though its dance floor ready lead single “Weekend Groove” will immediately spark excitement and lift the spirits just as Jesse Thompson intended, there are a multitude of other pleasures to experience on The Inauguration of Jtjazz (Jesse Thompson the Man Behind the Keys) – an album which truly rolls like an autobiographical blend of his many influences, from those Dayton funk legends to George Duke, Herbie Hancock, Joe Sample and Brian Culbertson. The album's latest single “It Doesn't Matter” is a sensual, easy grooving romantic joint featuring Thompson interacting with #1 Billboard charting trumpeter Lin Rountree – who he connected with via mutual connections at the individual HBCU schools they attended. As a showcase for Thompson's great talents on Fender Rhodes (creating a moody effect and his sparkling acoustic piano, the song taps into Thompson's love of Joe Sample's vibe both with the Crusaders and as a solo artist. The elegant funk ballad “The Right One Baby” offers a similar seductive duality. Troy highlighted three song from this incredible project "Weekend Grove", Obsidian, and "It Doesn't Matter".Being the son of a father who was a professional jazz drummer and a mother who was a church organist/pianist, Jesse Thompson – aka “JTJazz” came by his musical gifts naturally and started playing the drums as his first instrument at the age of five. By the time JT was twelve years old, he played a total of thirteen instruments, the piano being one of them. In addition to his parents, he was influenced by his oldest brother Marvyn Wheatley, who recorded and played with Parliament and Slave. Thompson spent time with his brothers in the studio hanging out with Slave, Roger Troutman & Zapp, Steve Arrington and othersThese experiences truly fueled his musical passions and ambitions. While he studied manufacturing engineering and IT at Central State University (in Wilberforce, OH), he played in the school's marching band and jazz ensemble and joined the national honorary band of the Kappa Kappa Psi fraternity. His other influences include Alex Bugnon, Jimmy Smith, Billy Preston, Jeff Lorber, James Lloyd and Bob James.Troy and Jesse discusses Jesse's musical bucket list, future endeavors giving back and more.‍Listen and subscribe to the BAAS Entertainment Podcast on Spotify, Amazon Music, Apple Podcasts, Google Podcasts, Deezer, iHeartRadio, Pandora, Podchaser, Pocket Casts and TuneIn. “Hey, Alexa.
