The Put it in the Books Show S8 E8: Chemistry, Clutch... and a Classic Mets Gut PunchThe Mets dropped one in true Mets fashion—a gut-wrenching, self-inflicted 6-5 extra innings loss to the Dodgers that felt like a throwback to the worst timeline. And what better way to unpack it than with Farace, Rodriguez, and Producer Joe (who actually showed up this week)? Keith is out tonight, likely reviewing footage of Lindor's glove work from April.Despite the meltdown, the Mets are still 39-24 and winners of 12 of their last 15. Pete, Soto, and Nimmo are heating up at the plate. The dugout's loose (flip-the-bottle, anyone?), chemistry is cooking, and even McNeil's playing CF without needing a GPS. Pete and Megill's handshake? No idea what it is, but it's working. Extend them both.Should Pete be the captain? Lindor? Nimmo? Or do we just rotate the title weekly like Producer Joe's attendance? The fellas also dig into the pitching—maybe the best staff in baseball—and whether the Mets need to make moves or just trust the next man up. They'll preview the series against the 12-50 Rockies (yes, that's not a typo), followed by a return home for matchups with the Nationals and Rays.Join us as we laugh through the pain and put it all in the books.

The Brewers went 3-3 vs. the two Chicago teams but looked like they misplaced their edge, as manager Pat Murphy put it. The Cubs, right now, are clearly the better team; how can the Brewers narrow the gap? Journal Sentinel reporter Curt Hogg and host JR Radcliffe break it all down. Another great showing from Freddy Peralta, a litany of starting pitchers on the road to return, very rough showings from Tobias Myers and Quinn Priester and a demotion after a blowup outing for reliever Craig Yoho. Can the offensive struggles simply be alleviated by Christian Yelich and William Contreras turning a corner? What's up with Trevor Megill? In Three Up Three Down (43:30), Tyrese Haliburton is mad about a first pitch, Megill celebrates a great catch with an even better dance and the Shane Smith Revenge Game goes Milwaukee's way. In Remembrew When (1:02:15), it's May Day with a father/son twist and in Curt Blanche (1:07:30), something is missing from the AmFam experience. Then, JR is joined by Daz Cameron (1:17:15), who had a nice day Sunday. They talk of course about his former Brewers father, the 2008 season, a home run on his father's jersey retirement day, getting traded for Justin Verlander and his fresh start with the Brewers.   Music intro from bensound.com. Hour 1 Coming off a huge sports weekend, we start with the Mets who split the first two games in Philadelphia. Boomer worries every time Edwin Diaz comes in a game now. Carlos Mendoza still sees him as the best option even though nobody else does. The Mets have been very resilient in the playoffs so far. Gio went to the Yankees game and said Giancarlo Stanton runs in the game like somebody runs while warming up and stretching. The Yankees are up 1-0 on the Royals but it doesn't feel like it. Tomorrow night we get a Mets home playoff game. Gio said he ‘doesn't think they're going back to Philadelphia'. Gio said the Phillies players look filthy and disgusting with their hair and beards. Jerry is here for his first update of the day and starts with the sounds of the Mets losing in Philadelphia to even the series 1-1. Mendoza talked about using MEGILL in that spot. Jerry has the sounds of the Giants blocking a FG for a TD as they beat the Seahawks. Darius SLAYTON filled in nicely for Malik Nabers. Jerry has the game clincher for the Vikings as they beat the Jets as heard on Vikings radio. Boomer said the Jets offense is not very creative and that's the way RODGERS and Hackett want it. Boomer is not ready to concede the season yet for the Jets. In the final segment of the hour, it felt like the Mets gave one away yesterday, but they did fight back and the Phillies do have a good offense. So it's hard to be mad about yesterday's loss. Gio has had enough of Harrison Bader in the lineup. Hour 2 The Vikings did not play well offensively because the Jets defense is very good. The Jets should have come back and won this game but their offense is a mess and RODGERS is not on the same page as his receivers. He looks old and beat up. Boomer said they are not creative at all on offense. BREECE Hall is non-existent for some reason. Garrett Wilson was wide open on the final drive and RODGERS simply missed him. The defense only gave up 16 points. RODGERS threw 3 picks including a pick-6. Gio wonders what Rob SALEH does during the game. He just stands there with his arms crossed. Boomer said he is engaged with the coaches and is letting the coordinators do their job. RODGERS is getting hit a ton and will most likely miss time at some point because of it. RODGERS holds on to the ball too long. Because the offense is so vanilla, Boomer would go no huddle and let RODGERS call the plays at the line. Jets fan Rich EISEN was on the call and sounded like he was rooting for the Jets. Jerry returns for an update and starts with the 2nd HR for VIENTOS which tied the game 6-6. Carlos Mendoza talked about Edwin Diaz's performance which was not great. The Giants won in Seattle and Jerry has the SLAYTON TD. Rob SALEH talked about Rodgers' performance. Rodgers also talked about his low ankle sprain. The Cowboys beat the Steelers last night after the game was delayed because of lightning. Jerry has the call from Bengals radio on the Ja'Marr Chase TD. In the final segment of the hour, the Giants had a nice win in Seattle but are probably still the worst team in the division. This is twice now the Giants were on the road and had a terrible turnover that turned into an immediate TD and they were able to come back from that. And they did it without Malik Nabers. Hour 3 The pressure is high on the Yankees right now and although they got a win in game 1, they did not look all that impressive. Gerritt Cole was ‘pedestrian' and did not look like a guy that you will count on to win a game 7. The best players on the team, not performing in the biggest spots, is what has happened in the past. The Yankees ‘escaped' with a win. You can't lose to a team that throws Michael Wacha out there for game 1. Jerry returns for an update and starts with the sounds of the Phillies beating the Mets. Edwin Diaz talked about his struggles and how he ‘went lazy'. The Giants defense was swarming in Seattle and had a huge blocked FG for a TD. The Jets lost in London and their run game ...

Coming off a huge sports weekend, we start with the Mets who split the first two games in Philadelphia.

Brewers reporter Curt Hogg and host JR Radcliffe look back at a shaky west-coast trip to Colorado and Los Angeles, which nonetheless ended with a salvageable 3-4 record. But how was Brice Turang not elected to the National League all-star team? The guys have thoughts on player balloting and the recent hiccups by a tired bullpen, plus the full-fledged resurgence of all-star starter Christian Yelich and the work by new pitchers Aaron Civale and Dallas Keuchel. In Three Up, Three Down, it's yet ANOTHER grand slam, a controversial bunt play, a 55-pitch inning and Bryan Hudson's recent struggles. Remembrew When looks back at another unflattering chapter Brewers-Dodgers history, and Curt's Take of the Week is back talking about a Dodger Stadium staple. Then, JR sits down with relief pitcher Trevor Megill, enjoying a breakout season at the back end of the Brewers rotation. They discuss the role water polo and rowing played in his life story, his scary injuries this year and how he arrived at a comfortable place in his career. Welcome to Episode 10 of Season 7 of The Put it in the Books Show, where dissecting the Mets' Jekyll and Hyde routine is becoming more routine than Keith's pre-show coffee ritual—and just as vital for our sanity. Join Farace, Rodriguez, Keith, and the ever-elusive Producer Joe, who's probably the only person who understands the Mets' inconsistency better than anyone, because let's face it, being invisible is the ultimate inconsistency. First up, what should we make of this Mets team that flips personalities more often than Farace changes his fantasy team lineup? One minute they're soaring, the next they're more grounded than a teenager after a bad report card. Megill and Peterson are making their pitch to be permanent fixtures in the rotation, proving they might just have the stability this team desperately needs—if only they could pitch every game. Vientos is back and ballin' at the major league level, swinging bats like Rodriguez swings opinions—hard and with lots of follow-through. And speaking of new roles, Adrian Houser seems to have found his niche in the bullpen. It's like discovering you're actually good at cooking but only when you use a microwave. Next, we're previewing the Mets vs. Phillies series in London because nothing says “baseball” like crumpets, tea, and a bit of rain delay—British style. And in a burst of farm system fireworks, six Mets made it to the top 100 prospects list, tying with the Orioles and Cubs. It's nice to be at the top of at least one list, even if it's just potential. Tune in as we dive deep into these topics, with a touch of our trademark dry humor that's more reliable than a Mets lead in the 9th. Whether or not this new month heralds a new Mets era, we'll be here, making sense of the senseless, and enjoying every unpredictable minute. Join us, won't you? It's less painful than watching the Mets alone. #PiitB #Mets --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/popculturepros/support
