Episode 60 of the Doctor Who: Alhambra Podcast Brett and Liam go over the passing of Trevor Baxter, who played George Litefoot on Talons of Weng-Chiang from the classic series, and in the same role in Big Finish audio series, Jago & Litefoot. We discuss the Facebook Fan Page reaction to Liam's questions to series 14.  Also, we discuss the passing of Debra Watling, who played Victoria during the Patrick Troughton Era.  Our conversation goes over the loss of this is to Doctor Who fandom and the lack of running commentaries on their DVD releases.  We also discuss the new Doctor's Daughter news soon to hit Big Finish.  A calm and levelheaded discussion about The Valeyard occurs.  The great series 10 of New Doctor Who is discussed and applauded, although there's one episode that was subpar, but Brett tries to defend it anyway.  The Face Book fan page "Wish List" is discussed, and we end on Doom Coalition v. Dark Eyes!   Stay tuned for our next episode which could be the complete series 10 of the new series of Doctor Who,  Big Finish review for the month of July Doctor Who, DW Spin-Offs, and other audios.     Subscribe to the show on  Stitcher http://www.stitcher.com/podcast/doctor-who-alhambra-podcast TuneIn http://tunein.com/radio/Doctor-Who-Alhambra-Podcast-p891406/ Poddirectory http://poddirectory.com/podcast/17156/doctor-who-the-alhambra-podcast Please email the show at: alhambraaudio@gmail.com Tweet the show: @AlhambraPodcast  Tweet the hosts: Liam @djNezumi or Brett @Mavic_Chen  Visit our website: AlhambraPodcast.weebly.com

Episode 43 of the Doctor Who: Alhambra Podcast In this episode of the Alhambra Podcast, the trio of Brett (@Mavic_Chen) and Liam (@djNezumi) and Legeon (@legeonhenderson) reunite and bring an enjoyable hour (or more) discussion and sci-fi silliness for the month of October 2016. Starting off with the news!  We are not reviewing Doctor Who - CLASS until it is released visually on BBC America, which will be around January 2017.  We discussed the release of Doctor Who CLASS three book release by BBC books.   Talking points:  " If you could only one choice one boxed set "Doom Coalition" or "War Doctor" or other boxed set series, what would it be and why?  I read a transcript from Whooverville 8 panel interview, from the Pubcast and Tin-Dog Podcast.  Here is the transcript that I made and read on the podcast.  It's not exact word-for-word.   Question from the Pubcast: “Is there anything you would have liked to do on Doctor Who that you weren't able to do?” Eric Seyward: “I would have like to have a female companion a little bit tougher, a little bit more real, to contribute a little bit more.  Tegan and Nyssa became redundant, it was difficult to fit them into stories.  Tegan spent most of her time moaning, and Nyssa looking aloof and whatever.  We had so many of them, Turlough, so three of them at one stage. With the exception of Turlough, they really couldn't contribute massively, because when you are driving around in deep space in a TARDIS.  Tegan is from 1980 Earth, and she couldn't really contribute, because whenever they arrived somewhere she has to ask questions, and it makes her boring.  But I would have liked to have had fewer companion, if you had a female one, certainly one that is stronger more positive contribution. I probably would have chosen one from deep space, where should would have the sort of knowledge that could compete with the Doctor.   Minute 22:57 The Tin Dog Podcast: I loved the Terileptil (from The Visitation) have you ever approached or have been approached by Big Finish, to say “can we have them on this, because it's a lot cheaper with make-up?  Because I think as a race, they would really have legs on audio Eric Seyward: Big Finish, they've never approached me for anything.  It would make them more interesting. The Tin Dog Podcast: You seem to have a whole world building thing with them, rather than having them as the Villain of the Week.  They had a society and they built beautiful things like androids.  It sounds like there was more thought put in them than other... Eric Seyward: - Goes into the backstory of the Terileptil (However) The Tin Dog goes onto ask Eric Seyward about the story of The Visitation, noting that this story was the one selected as the story for the book “The Making of Doctor Who.” By the way The Tin Dog asked this question, you can tell this is a special story to Michael, and wants to know more, saying that fans didn't have access to much Doctor Who content, so when it came out it was loved and cherished. The Visitation was the concentrated storyline in “The Making of Doctor Who” book.  Yet Eric Seyward goes onto crap on The Tin Dog's question/reference, saying The Visitation wasn't a special story, it just happened to be the one that was in production at the time.   One positive from the podcast was the Pubcast and Tin-Dog podcast panel interview, where Sophie Aldread's Go Fund Me project: “Strangeness in Space” a free podcast radio drama.  http://strangenessinspace.com/episodes/ or on iTunes. Review from Tin Dog Podcast   2.1 Beachhead by Nicholas Briggs In an attempt to recharge his batteries after his confrontation with the Eleven, the Doctor takes Liv and Helen to the sleepy English seaside village of Stegmoor. But they find the village in turmoil and, to make matters worse, their arrival uncovers a mystery from the Doctor's past which threatens the future safety of the planet. Can the Doctor prevent the Voord from invading Earth? And more importantly why have they come in the first place? 2.2 Scenes from Her Life by John Dorney Investigating the appearance of the Voord on Earth, the Doctor, Liv and Helen follow a trail which takes them to the other side of the universe. There they discover a mysterious and almost deserted gothic city lost in space and time, in which the grotesque inhabitants are conducting a vile and inhumane experiment. The Doctor and his companions must hurry to save the lives of those in danger before the experiment is a success and the unimaginable consequences become all too real. 2.3 The Gift by Marc Platt The TARDIS deposits its crew on Earth in San Francisco, 1906. There they find an actor-manager desperate to stage his definitive production of King Lear. But a real storm is headed their way when he becomes the possessor of a mysterious psychic ‘Gift' which is hungry for power and intent on wreaking havoc and destruction. But exposure to so much psychic activity has the Doctor becoming increasingly erratic. Can he battle his demons and save the world? 2.4 The Sonomancer by Matt Fitton On the other side of the galaxy a mining company is exploiting the already unstable planet of Syra for every precious mineral it contains. River Song is attempting to save the native people. She needs the Doctor's help, but she also knows he mustn't yet discover her true identity. The final confrontation sees the Doctor once again face his enemy the Eleven in an attempt to prevent the destruction of Syra and the genocide of its inhabitants. 1. The Eleven by Matt Fitton The Eleven. A Time Lord whose previous personalities live on in his mind: arguing, plotting, jostling for supremacy... He is also Gallifrey's most dangerous criminal. And he has escaped. The Doctor is recalled to his homeworld to lead the hunt. As they search the Capitol's corridors of power, the Academy halls and the cells of the highest security penitentiary, Liv realises the worst monsters may be among the Doctor's own people. For inside his fractured mind, the Eleven has a plan. And its deadly consequences will extend through space and time... 2. The Red Lady by John Dorney An anomaly in time brings the Doctor and Liv to London in the 1960s, where they meet a young lady named Helen Sinclair - desperately trying to make a name for herself in the face of sexism and prejudice. Whilst the Doctor tried to uncover the secrets of a mysterious artefact, a far deadlier mystery awaits Liv and Helen in the collection of a recently deceased antiquarian. Because that's where they find the Red Lady. Because if you do, you might not like what you see. 3. The Galileo Trap by Marc Platt Helen Sinclair doesn't know what hit her. One moment she was trapped in a dead-end job in 1960s London, and now she is transported back to Renaissance Italy over three centuries before. Florence is a city in turmoil. A new plague stalks the streets. A ferocious behemoth rampages through the vineyards. And Galileo Galilei, celebrated scientist, astronomer and old friend of the Doctor, is imprisoned in his own villa for heresy. But why has Galileo summoned the Doctor? Who are the mysterious Fortuna and Cleaver? Why have they been sent to Earth? And what is Galileo's secret? Is it the last thing he saw before he went blind? 4. The Satanic Mill by Edward Collier The Satanic Mill - a vast Victorian factory floating in the deep of space. As the Doctor closes in on his quarry, long buried animosities come boiling to the surface on this ancient and powerful satellite, in a final confrontation that could have unimaginable consequences. And even that is only the beginning... Episode 19 of the Doctor Who: Alhambra podcast begins with a quick discussion of what we've been watching or listening to since the last podcast.   During the news segment we discuss DWM #285 celebration issue of Ten years of Doctor Who back on TV. Share thoughts of what we like and what we don't like, and Liam argues that perhaps Big Finish's Doctor Who releases were better than some of the TV stuff. Brett argues that it all went down hill when RTD left as it became more of a who's the companion compared to the Doctor's story, also perhaps Matt Smith's departure could have messed with Moffat's overall plan. From there we continue the saga discussion known as The State of Big Finish, as we again vent our frustrations with lack of discounts for the big supporters of many of their ranges, yet do crazy discount price reductions that give random guy a +50% discount on a large portion of their ranges.  Liam informs me about an American radio show featuring zombies, where which Brett randomly complains about the zombie genre.  We smoothly transition to Survivors Series 2 box set trailer release, to the 8th Doctor Doom Coalition release, as well as the great news of Big Finish retaining their Doctor Who license till the year 2020.  As we turn our attention to the releases for the month of March, we discuss the last of the E-Space trilogy for the 5th Doctor main range, probably one of the best releases for this trilogy.  We discuss some of the releases you might need to listen to, #136 Cobwebs, #174 Prisoners of Fate also written by Jonathan Morris, who also penned #197 The Entrophy Plague (if you haven't purchased or listened to all of the main range releases once Big Finish reunited the crowded Tardis, these would be the ones you'd need to listen to in order to understand the timeline of Nyssa).  Then we get to discuss the 4th Doctor Adventures, and this release, 4.03 Requiem for the Rocket Men by John Dorney, is one of the first releases in which Liam and Brett have a difference of opinion regarding this range (the first one being 3.02 White Ghosts).  We finish off the podcast with Liam giving his thoughts on Blake's 7 Ghost Ship (February) and Devil's Advocate (March), and Vienna Series 2. We finish the podcast reviewing the classic Doctor Who episode "The Two Doctors" as we see this show without seeing it.  Liam watches it in his normal way, and Brett watches it without the visual as we try to figure out if the story holds up, acting, plot, overall viewing pleasure without visuals.  We have some dynomite discussions as I share my frustrations with not being able to visually see it, as Liam asks questions regarding what is something actually like.  Although I haven't finished watching it visually or audioly, the Two Doctors is an amazing story, very strong and enjoyable.  Give it a watch without watching it and see if what it's like if you were unable to see this story.   Please check out our website: AlhambraPodcast.weebly.com Tweet us: @AlhambraPodcast @Mavic_Chen @djNezumi E-mail: AlhambraAudio@gmail.com
