We watch “Empire of Death” (Series 14, Episode 8) where the Doctor realizes this season's big big bad is a bad bad boy... oh yes you are... you are soo bad.... So whilst Sutekh is ‘Thanosing'™ the universe, Mel travels down memory lane, the Doctor goes spooning with a ‘kind' woman (oh did we already get over Rogue? too soon Doctor... too soon...), and Ruby gets the lamest origin story. Even Hawkeye is like ‘Wow... that (John-E filter engaged) shit is weak'. Get it? Cuz Hawkeye is so lame as to not use a swear? Sigh... nobody gets me...
Charles Skaggs & Jesse Jackson discuss "Kill the Doctor!" & "The Age of Sutekh", the 7th & 8th audio dramas from Series 7 of Big Finish Productions' Doctor Who: The Fourth Doctor Adventures in 2018, featuring Tom Baker as the Fourth Doctor, Louise Jameson as Leela, Sophia Myles as Rania Chuma, and the return of Gabriel Woolf as Sutekh! We watch “The Legend of Ruby Sunday” (Series 14, Episode 7) where the Doctor commandeers the vast resources of UNIT to solve the season long mystery of... Ruby's parentage? WTF? So the same woman who keeps showing up on various planets and in various time-lines is the frakkin' B plot?!? OK then (deep breath). Whilst said misdirection is occurring, we are also treated to the blatant disregard to what is an actual anagram: ‘Sutekh' is not even close to being an anagram of ‘S Triad Technology'. ‘Drastic holy gents' is the best I can come up with. Still a legit anagram. Come at me RTD2.
Charles Skaggs and Jesse Jackson regenerate their discussion of "Pyramids of Mars", the third serial from Doctor Who Season 13 in 1975, featuring Tom Baker as the Fourth Doctor, Elisabeth Sladen as Sarah Jane Smith, and the first appearance of Gabriel Woolf as Sutekh! Terror of the Vervoids isn't exactly the greatest Doctor Who story ever. Those plant-based villains were just … weird. But this bizarre aria from Colin Baker's long swan song is now surprisingly relevant to the age of Ncuti. Why does Mel just appear out of nowhere? Is the Doctor just allowed to browse his future, or is there something more sinister at play? Pour a nice cool carrot juice, and don't rage-quit the pod when we bring Sutekh's gift of headcanon! Och aye the noo, it's Scottish stereotype Who! Terror of the Zygons, written by an actual Scot, really packs them in: bagpipes, kilts, haggis, Nessie, North Sea oil, and monsters who look like they've eaten too many deep-fried Mars bars. In today's minisode, Erin is back to discuss those last two episodes of the latest season of Doctor Who, The Legend of Ruby Sunday, and Empire of Death. Welcome to another episode of our reviews podcast. In this episode, Marx and Ian chew the fat on three of the biggest science fiction and fantasy franchises out there. We kick-off with a discussion about the recent series of Doctor Who give our thoughts on the season finale and talk about the good and the bad. The good is the fact that they managed to get Gabriel Woolf to once again provide his voice for the role of Sutekh. Also up for discussion is the series finale of Star Trek: Discovery. Due to the fact that we are quite late with this discussion. We sort of have a look at the series as a whole and talk about how it evolved from what was a bumpy start. Ian also comments on the fact that the show seemed to be trying to have as many endings as The Lord of The Rings trilogy. So, is The Acolyte the death of the Star Wars franchise? That is a question that many in the fan base have been asking or in some cases predicting. So Marx and I take up the challenge and give our view on the topic. And finally, Marx updates us about Dark Matter and we close out with a brief preview of what we'll be discussing in the next episode. Skidding into your UNIT-approved podcatcher is the pod on "The Legend of Ruby Sunday," and, oh boy, do we have questions. Has Unit become the earth-based research office for Doctor Who? Why would Unit drop everything to find the Doctor's new friend's mother? How would the Tennant Doctor react if he saw Susan Triad's big reveal on television? And what is Sutekh without the Egyptian / Osirian backstory to lean on? All this and more as two grumpy old fans come to terms with the penultimate episode in Ncuti Gatwa's first season. The opening music is "Hazy Shade of Winter," covered by The Bangles, and the closing music is "Walk Like an Egyptian," by The Bangles. We recorded this episode on 19 June 2024.

The Doctor finds a "Remembered TARDIS," which is made up of bits and pieces from the TARDIS' history, as seen in the Tales of the TARDIS spin-off. The Doctor and his companions manage to escape in the Remembered TARDIS, but not before Sutekh gains control of the actual TARDIS. The Doctor heads to a dying planet and learns that DNA testing was made compulsory in the future, whic37h will finally answer the question of Ruby's mother's identity. The Doctor uses an intelligent rope and a whistle to attach Sutekh to the TARDIS console, dragging him into the time vortex and reversing the effects of the Dust of Death. This brings everyone back to life, except for Sutekh and Harriet, who were killed earlier. The episode ends with the Doctor saying goodbye to Ruby Sunday after she unites with her moth, with the warning from Mrs. Flood that the Doctor's story "ends in absolute terror."
The Doctor divides his attention between saving the world and helping Ruby learn about her past (thank you, VHS tapes), while Deb, Erika, Kat, and Tansy divide their attention between discussing Sutekh, thoughts on the Time Window, and the positive changes being made at U.N.I.T. As mentioned in the episode: - Joy Piedmont talks to Chris Chibnall on Reality Bomb 106A. - It's never Susan (except for in Warren's music video) We realize there's still another part to be aired, so anything can change, but what were your thoughts on "The Legend of Ruby Sunday?" Drop us a message on Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram, or let us know in the comments! ^K P.S. Can you solve this anagram? "I invest lottery"
Holy smokes, friends! The Legend of Ruby Sunday...the first part of our season finale...has given us so much to chew on! Not only is it the return of Sutekh to the show after almost 50 years, it's the possibility of who dropped Ruby at the church in 2004, it's how much we'd be very cool with a UNIT spin-off, it's speculation on Mrs. Flood, it's will Cherry ever get her tea, and so much more! And the season finale is almost here, so we better get cracking into it!

Joe, Si & Frazer; 'I bring Sutekh's gift of death to all humanity...' A condensed season - good or bad? Who is Mrs Flood? Who is Ruby's mother? Why is Mel so awesome? Huge discussion, massive laughs and what an ending!
It's the penultimate episode of Doctor Who Season 1 and the mysteries are piling up in UNIT HQ! Who or what is Susan Twist? What about the cloaked lady who may or may not be Ruby's mum? Why in the name of all the gods in the pantheon is Sutekh causing trouble and blinged out in Disney finery? The Three Who Rule don't have the answers but they do have baseless speculation and a bunch of irrelevant Classic Who references to tide us over until next week! The episode starts with the Doctor and Ruby seeking answers from UNIT about the mysterious woman who has been following the Doctor throughout his timeline. This woman has appeared in various forms, such as a portrait, an ambulance, and a hiker. The Doctor suspects that she might be his granddaughter, Susan. UNIT reveals that they have a Time Window, which allows the Doctor and Ruby to relive the moment Ruby was abandoned on Christmas Eve 2004. They discover that the TARDIS was present at the scene, but it is hidden within a cloud. The Doctor realizes that the woman was pointing at the TARDIS, not him. Meanwhile, Susan, who has been working with UNIT, starts to behave strangely. She mentions the Pantheon, a group of powerful gods, and reveals that the God of Death, Sutekh, is behind everything. The episode ends with a cliffhanger, as Ruby stands in front of her birth mother, and the Doctor faces the terrifying realization that Sutekh, an ancient and powerful enemy, has returned to destroy him and everyone he loves. The episode sets up an epic finale, with the Doctor facing his most dangerous enemy yet, and the fate of the universe hanging in the balance. And with this bonus episode, Ken & Mike close out Season 3 of "Prepare the Timelash!!" with a look at a Fourth Doctor classic, "Pyramids of Mars". They get into a lot with this one, including why the Fourth Doctor/Sarah Jane pair is so darn good, why Sutekh the Destroyer is one of the best villains ever to grace the show, and Robert Holmes' predilection for poachers in a story. Did they save the best story for last in this season? Listen and find out!
