In this fossil-fueled episode of The Non-Prophets, the hosts unpack a new discovery: lizard-like footprints in Australia that could rewrite the timeline of tetrapod evolution by 40 million years. From the science of peer review to the philosophical weight of evidence, the panel dives into how science self-corrects, why tentative claims aren't failures, and how our distant past continues to shape our future. Five travellers, trapped on Earth and without a means of escape, face Autons, Silurians, Ambassadors & Primords! But who will reign supreme in this popular season?
With just a couple weeks left until the new season of Doctor Who, we're cramming in Doctor Who and the Silurians! Pertwee's second story is part-mystery, part-medical drama, and loaded with sci-fi fun! While we wonder if the story needed to be seven parts, we do think they did a pretty decent job with the pacing. Plus we get some marvelous goofy faces from the 3rd Doctor as well as a hint as some of the darker, more serious moments to come from this Doctor.

The Doctor's always running into people from Earth's past on TV, in a genre now known as the 'celebrity historical'. Here, we have David Tennant's Tenth Doctor travelling solo, finding himself in the Galopagos Islands, where he not only encounters a young Charles Darwin, but also... the Silurians. We're delighted to be joined by author L D Lapinski, as they tell us about getting the commission, and how they have also recently moved to Scotland.

According to Amazon, Thomas Maier is the author of several books, an Emmy-winning television producer, and a longtime Newsday investigative reporter. In 2022, he won the Columbia University Journalism School Award for career achievement. America in our times is the backdrop for his biographies, which have been singled out by critics for best-of-the-year honors. His book "Mafia Spies" shows how the CIA recruited two gangsters to assassinate Cuban leader Fidel Castro during the Cold War. In a starred review, Booklist called it "brilliant" and "enormous fun" and "standout" among non-fiction spy books. It's being developed by Paramount for a future TV series. He has appeared on Chris Matthew's "Hardball" and on "Morning Joe", made headlines in London's Daily Mail and news sites around the world, and was a featured forum at the JFK Presidential Library televised by C-Span's BOOKTV.Since 1984, he's been a writer for Newsday in New York, previously working at the Chicago Sun-Times. In 2002, I won the world's top $20,000 investigative prize from the International Consortium of Investigative Reporting, now called the "Daniel Pearl Award", for a series about the deadly exploitation of immigrant workers. Others investigative series of mine have won the national Sigma Delta Chi Distinguished Service Award (twice, 1987 and 2013), the national Worth Bingham Award, National Headliners Award, New York Deadline Club, Society of Silurians and many others. I earned a master's degree in 1982 from the Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism, where I won the John Patterson television documentary prize at graduation and was later awarded a John McCloy fellowship to Europe.Website thomasmaierbooks.comBook Mafia Spies: The Inside Story of the CIA, Gangsters, JFK, and Castro

This month, Erik and Kyle go deep underground, some might even call it Hades itself, to discuss "The Hungry Earth/Cold Blood," the two-part series five story from future showrunner Chris Chibnall. It brings back the Silurians and gives us a remix of Third Doctor story elements before falling on its face trying to do something interesting but failing miserably.
In this episode of the Who's He? Podcast...... Review - Seas of Titan Paul and Phil listened to Seas of Titan from Big Finish for this episode, starring Christopher Eccleston as the Doctor and this time he's up against the Sea Devils! And this leads them to discuss how easy is it to bring back classic villains in new and interesting ways? But was this a feeling of been there, seen it, done it? A case of deja vu if you will. Season 21 gets off to a Myrka start with Warriors of the Deep. The Silurians return and bring along the Sea Devils for extra impact - but does anything actually happen until the last 5 mins?
We're onto the Fifth Doctor's last season already! This time we venture to 2084 when the people of Earth seem to be set on destroying themselves again. With a little help from the Silurians, Sea Devils and…the Myrka!
It's happened again: it's the end of the season, and all our long-dead relatives have come back as Cybermen. Only this time, instead of hanging around the kitchen reeking of tobacco, they're wandering through graveyards and — well, that's it really, wandering through graveyards. Fortunately, Missy is here to liven things up a bit. It's Death in Heaven. Notes and links Nathan alludes to discovering during the week of recording some of the terrible consequences of Australia's presence in Afghanistan. This is upsetting reading, so content warnings apply. We mention Doctor Who and the Silurians as a previous story where the Doctor comes into conflict with soldiers, and we refer to El Sandifer's take on the end of that story, a scene which presents this conflict explicitly but which is never followed up in any satisfactory way. Richard brings up Chris Addison's Radio 4 comedy series Civilisation, which co-stars the original Ford Prefect, Geoffrey McGivern. And, finally, the Doctor plummeting to his death from a plane inevitably reminds us of Roger Moore in a similar situation as James Bond in Moonraker (1979). Follow us Nathan is on Twitter as @nathanbottomley, Brendan is @brandybongos, Richard is @RichardLStone, and Todd is @ToddBeilby. The Flight Through Entirety theme was arranged by Cameron Lam. And more You can find Jodie into Terror, our flashcast on the entirety of the Whittaker Era of Doctor Who, at jodieintoterror.com, at @JodieIntoTerror on Twitter, on Apple Podcasts, and wherever podcasts can be found. We'll be back with a new flashcast on the second Russell T Davies era in November. Our James Bond commentary podcast is called Bondfinger, and you can find that at bondfinger.com, at @bondfingercast on Twitter, on Apple Podcasts, and everywhere else as well. We can also be heard on the Blakes 7 podcast Maximum Power, which has completed its coverage of the first half of the show's entire run. Recording of our coverage of Series C is nearing its conclusion: it will be ready for you later in the year. There's also our Star Trek commentary podcast, Untitled Star Trek Project, featuring Nathan and friend-of-the-podcast Joe Ford. In our most recent episode, we watch an episode of Star Trek: The Next Generation called Genesis, in which the crew devolve into various types of monsters and animals, upsetting fans who have the (baffling) expectation that their franchise will take itself more seriously.

This has it all - a bit of comedy, a lot of character, and Roger Delgado looking pretty spiffing as a naval officer. Add to that some comedy wiring, an epic sword fight and the famous rebranding of the Silurians as the equally inaccurate Eocenes and there's a lot to talk about ... even before we get to Jabba the Hutt.
