Today we will be talking about the fifth wife of King Henry VIII, Catherine Howard. Now when we last left the Tudor world, Henry had annulled his marriage to Anne of Cleves and in a way she got away scott free from a man who had a history of taking out his insecurities and his furies on his wives - thus the rhyme to remember his wives, Divorced, Beheaded, Died, Divorced. And we'll find the next part of that rhyme by the end of this episode. Thank you for listening to Medieval Murder! These African Christians suffered during the persecution of the Church by the emperor Decius, during which a great many Christians denied the faith rather than suffer. These faithful few boldly upheld the Faith and, after many torments, were condemned to death by beheading. The went to their execution singing psalms and hymns of thanksgiving, and received the crown of martyrdom in 250. In the early centuries of the Church, North Africa, especially the region of Carthage, was one of the centers of the Christian Faith, comparable to Asia Minor.

It's Tuesday, February 25th, A.D. 2025. This is The Worldview in 5 Minutes heard on 125 radio stations and at www.TheWorldview.com. I'm Adam McManus. (Adam@TheWorldview.com) By Kevin Swanson Muslims beheaded 70 Christians in Congo The Islamic State of Central Africa Province, a terrorist group, is reported to have killed 107 Christians between mid-October 2024 and early January 2025 in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. In fact, more than 5,000 Christians have been killed by this Muslim terrorist group since October of 2017, according to figures recorded by the Terrorism Research and Analysis Consortium. This just in. International Christian Concern reports that the Islamic State of Central Africa Province, formerly known as Allied Democratic Forces, is thought to be responsible for the horrific massacre of 70 Christians by beheading in Congo's eastern Lubero Territory near the country's border with Uganda and Rwanda last week. Pray for the Congo. It's the 35th most dangerous country worldwide for Christians, according to Open Doors. God transformed Central Asian prison with Bible In their March/April Magazine, Barnabas Aid included an article entitled ”God's Word Unchained.” (page 13) It tells the story of a Christian woman who was released from prison in Central Asia after serving four years. The unnamed Christian was able to smuggle a Bible into the prison. When administrators confronted her, she told them, “The Bible is God's Word and shows you the way for eternal life.” Four days later, the official came into the cell and told her, “You must read the book -- all of you.” Pointing to the woman, the official said, “Let her teach you all and you must listen to her!” The Christian prisoner reported that she “started to read the Bible for everyone. Many women asked me to give them the Bible, so they could read it personally. … We read the Bible aloud during the day, and some women read it in the night. The cell in which discord, slander, and enmity reigned turned into a quiet place. Women became friendly with each other.” The sister recounted how women were healed from sickness by prayer. and even the prison staff began to request prayer for themselves and their sick relatives. She was released from prison recently, after having served four years and one month of her ten-year sentence. In Isaiah 55:11, God makes a promise about His Word: “My Word that goes out from My mouth; it shall not return to Me empty, but it shall accomplish that which I purpose, and shall succeed in the thing for which I sent it.” German voters move right The German elections over the weekend produced one more political shake-up for Europe. The far left gained only four percent, while the right gained 14%, reports the Associated Press. America refused to blame Russia for invasion of Ukraine On Monday, the United States parted with European countries in an important United Nations vote. The United States refused to blame Russia for its invasion of Ukraine in votes on three U.N. resolutions Monday which sought an end to the three-year war. The resolution, which passed 93-18, called for the immediate withdrawal of Russian troops and referred to Moscow's aggression as a violation of the United Nations Charter. America voted with Russia and 16 other countries. J.D. Vance affirmed young men at CPAC Last Friday, Vice President J.D. Vance had a word for young men at the Conservative Political Action Conference held in National Harbor, Maryland. VANCE: He told the group that “our culture sends a message to young men that you should suppress every masculine urge.” He also spoke to the cultural zeitgeist. VANCE: “Wants to turn everybody, whether male or female, into androgynous idiots who think the same, talk the same and act the same. We actually think God made male and female for a purpose. We want you guys to thrive as young men and as young women, (applause) and we're going to help with our public policies to make it possible to do that.” Gallup: 9.3% of Americans now identify as homosexual or transgender The prevalence of homosexuality in the United States increased by 22% in just a single year. That's according to a recent Gallup poll, revealing that now 9.3% of Americans identify on the sexually-perverted LGBTQ spectrum. That's also up from 3.5% in 2012. Incredibly, 31% of young Gen Z women, and 12% of Gen Z men identify themselves with some form of sexual perversion that violates the laws of God. Romans 1:25-27 explains how they “worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator. … For this reason, God gave them up to vile passions. For even their women exchanged the natural use for what is against nature. Likewise, also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust for one another.” West Virginia might allow religious exemption for vaccines West Virginia's legislature is considering a religious exemption for vaccinations applying to children attending schools in the state. The state senate voted 20-12 to approve the measure on Friday. Only seven states provide for no religious exemption on vaccinations. How God used a one-arm woman to triumph in softball Despite the fact that Katelyn Pavey was born with only one arm, she excelled in women's softball. Conceived by parents involved in a sinful affair who became Christians, they raised her in the church. Remarkably, Katelyn became an all-state player in high school and received a full-ride to Cincinnati Christian University. Her story is told in a new movie entitled “I Can.” MovieGuide, the Christian movie review site, wrote, “'I Can' has a strong Christian, moral worldview stressing God's grace and forgiveness. … Ultimately, ‘I Can' tells an uplifting, inspiring, heartfelt story that champions God's faithfulness to help people overcome problems. The movie has many Christian elements like church and prayer. Circumstances point Katelyn to faith in God when she hits rock bottom. [However], due to some mature themes like death, an affair and injury, MovieGuide advises caution for younger children.” “I Can” can be streamed for free and is available on DVD through a special link in our transcript today at www.TheWorldview.com. Blue Ghost spacecraft reveals new video of moon And finally, another moon landing with a craft produced by a private company is scheduled for March 2nd. This comes on the heels of last year's Odysseus landing last February. Blue Ghost, also known as one of the Ghost Riders in the Sky, produced by Firefly, is circumnavigating the moon right now, sending back some pretty awesome video of God's creation. Check it out through a special link in our transcript today at www.TheWorldview.com. In Psalm 8:3-4, David asked, “When I consider your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars, which you have set in place, what is mankind that you are mindful of them, human beings that you care for them?” Close And that's The Worldview on this Tuesday, February 25th, in the year of our Lord 2025. Diane Foley is the Mother of James (Jim) Foley who was publicly beheaded by ISIS militants in Syria in 2014. Diane is the subject of the book 'American Mother' by Colum McCann and created the James W. Foley Legacy Foundation to work with governments and families of those taken hostage by terrorists. I wanted to speak to Diane about how God and her faith guided and strengthened her through her journey of healing. Some highlights from this episode include how prayer guided Diane through her series of face-to-face meetings with her son's killer, why she never felt abandoned by God despite the difficult trials that she and her family went through, and what drives Diane to keep James's legacy alive today.--You can find the book written by Diane & Colum at the following link:- https://colummccann.com/american-mother/Follow For All The Saints on social media for updates and inspiring content:www.instagram.com/forallthesaintspodhttps://www.facebook.com/forallthesaintspod/For All The Saints episodes are released every Monday on YouTube, Spotify, Apple Podcasts and more:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TVDUQg_qZIU&list=UULFFf7vzrJ2LNWmp1Kl-c6K9Qhttps://open.spotify.com/show/3j64txm9qbGVVZOM48P4HS?si=bb31d048e05141f2https://podcasts.apple.com/gb/podcast/for-all-the-saints/id1703815271If you have feedback or any suggestions for topics or guests, connect with Ben & Sean via hello@forallthesaints.org or DM on InstagramConversations to Refresh Your Faith. For All The Saints podcast was established in 2023 by Ben Hancock to express his passion and desire for more dialogue around faith, religious belief, and believers' perspectives on the topics of our day. In this weeks Fear Of Missing Out report we start out with a DOGE report and some of what they have uncovered this week. For you gamers, the video gaming industry is having a Bud Light moment because when you Go Woke, you Go Broke. The company of the jet that crash-landed in Canada takes pride in having all female pilots. There is good news this week from Kansas as they have overridden the Governors veto and now ban all transgender surgeries and medications for minors. Sad news out of Congo, where 70 people were killed by Islamic radicals for just being Christians. Hollywood has picked the new Jesus for the latest Jesus Christ Superstar and it may or may not surprise you who was chosen. We end with a whale of a tale about a man who was swallowed by a Humpback whale.

Headlines: Labor imposes counter-terrorism sanctions on online neo-Nazi network for the first time, North Queensland floods update, trade war looming over Trump’s tariffs against Canada, Mexico and China, and The Grammys are on today. Deep Dive: In the 2010s ISIS became one of the world’s biggest terror groups, controlling almost one-third of Syria and around half of Iraq. Over the years the group has claimed responsibility for terrorist attacks across the globe, including those in Paris in 2015, Berlin in 2016, and Manchester at an Ariana Grande concert the year after. Since 2018 the group’s influence has felt quieter, claiming less responsibility for attacks but that has changed. In 2024 we saw Russia’s deadliest terror attack in over two decades – which ISIS took responsibility for – and on New Year's Day, an ISIS-inspired attack killed 14 people and injured dozens more in New Orleans. So, is ISIS having a resurgence? In this episode of The Briefing, Chris Spyrou is joined by Michael Ware, a man who witnessed the birth of ISIS firsthand and is the only western journalist to escape one of their beheading attempts, to explain how we got here, if he thinks ISIS is having a resurgence, and if Australia is ready for a possible terror attack from the group. The first ever Aztec death whistle was found in Mexico City in the late 90s in the grave of a 20-year-old male who was the victim of a sacrifice. Beheaded, & with his arms crossed over his chest, the death whistle was found clutched within his skeletal hand. One of the most remarkable ancient musical instruments ever discovered, the sound of the Aztec death whistle has perplexed scholars for years. According to recent studies, it is so un-nerving that it can literally mess up your mind. In this episode, I actually play the sound of this infamous resonator for several seconds, but be warned that it might be one of the creepiest sounds you've ever heard. This week, John Dorney joins us in northern Scotland to investigate the disappearance of the Ninth Legion — only to discover that there are things here even more terrible than the Roman army, things that can only be fought with trust and empathy and music. It's The Eaters of Light. Notes and links Crash (2004) starts with a voiceover by Don Cheadle, laying out the terms of the metaphorical link between car crashes and human interactions generally. It's not a very popular movie, not only because of its superficial approach to issues of race, but also because it won the 2005 Academy Award for Best Picture instead of Brokeback Mountain. Richard mentions American YA fiction writer Scott Westerfield, particularly the Uglies series with its teenage protagonist. He also mentions William Golding's 1954 novel Lord of the Flies, where a group of schoolchildren stranded without adults on a deserted island, quickly revert to savagery. Brian Vernel was born in 1990, so he was 26 or 27 when he played Lucius in this episode, and 32 when he played far-right extremist Curly in the first season of Slow Horses in 2022. Kar's speech about the depredations of the Roman Army is taken from the Agricola by Tacitus, a short biography of his father-in-law, chronicling, among other things his campaigns in northern Britain. Tacitus depicts the Caledonian leader Calgacus making the speech just before the Battle of Mount Graupius, in which his forces were defeated by the Romans. You can read the speech in translation here. This week's monster is based on very common depictions found in Pictish carvings of an animal called the Pictish Beast. Some depictions are found among the carvings seen in this episode. Tania Bell is a companion to the Eighth Doctor, first appearing in Big Finish's Stranded in 2020 — the first transgender companion to appear in Doctor Who. She is played by Rebecca Root. John has written five stories for Tania: her second story Wild Animals, as well as The Long Way Round, What Just Happened?, Best Year Ever and Flatpack (in which she meets Christopher Ecclston's Ninth Doctor). It's Wednesday, October 30th, A.D. 2024. This is The Worldview in 5 Minutes heard on 125 radio stations and at www.TheWorldview.com. I'm Adam McManus. (Adam@TheWorldview.com) By Jonathan Clark and Adam McManus Nigerian Muslims beheaded 4 people including a Christian Open Doors UK reports that Muslim extremists beheaded four abducted individuals recently in northeast Nigeria. At least one of them was a Christian. The terrorists released a graphic video of the murders and are believed to be from Boko Haram. In the video, an armed terrorist said, “Wherever there is an infidel, we will go and find them out by ourselves and execute them.” John Samuel with Open Doors said, “Boko Haram extremists have clearly said time and time again that they are waging a jihad against people they call ‘infidels' – that is anyone who does not sign up to their extreme interpretation of Islam. Some of the people at the top of this list, then, are Christians who are clear targets because of their faith.” 60,000 Brits sign freedom of prayer petition Alliance Defending Freedom released a petition for freedom of prayer in the United Kingdom. this month. Already, nearly 60,000 people have signed it. Authorities in the U.K. recently convicted a Christian of violating censorship zones around abortion mills. Army veteran Adam Smith-Connor had simply prayed silently near an abortion mill! Alliance Defending Freedom sent the petition to U.K. Prime Minister Keir Starmer. It states, “Freedom of thought is our most basic and precious of rights -- and has long been recognized in British law and every major human rights document from the Universal Declaration of Human Rights onwards.” Proverbs 29:2 says, “When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice; but when a wicked man rules, the people groan.” Kamala calls Trump a “petty tyrant,” likening him to King George III Last night, Vice President Kamala Harris made her campaign's closing argument in a speech at the Ellipse in the nation's capital, reports The Epoch Times. Her campaign claimed that 75,000 people were in attendance. The rally was located at a symbolic site for two reasons. First, it had a direct view of the White House. And secondly, it's the place where Trump delivered his speech on January 6, 2021, that preceded the Capitol breach. HARRIS: “Nearly 250 years ago, America was born when we wrested freedom from a petty tyrant. Across the generations, Americans have preserved that freedom, expanded it, and, in so doing, proved to the world that a government of, by, and for the people is strong and can endure. (cheers) “Those who came before us, the patriots at Normandy and Selma, Seneca Falls and Stonewall (cheers), on farmlands and factory floors, they did not struggle, sacrifice, and lay down their lives only to see us cede our fundamental freedoms. (cheers) “They didn't do that only to see us submit to the will of another petty tyrant. (cheers) These United States of America, we are not a vessel for the schemes of wannabe dictators.” GOP Congressman: People are done with Kamala's fear mongering Appearing on The Angle with Laura Ingraham on Fox News, Republican Congressman Byron Donalds of Florida rejected the nasty tone, fear mongering, and unsupported accusations in the waning days that Kamala Harris has adopted. Listen. DONALDS: “They were joy and vibes three weeks ago. Now, everything is ‘attack Donald Trump,' ‘call him Hitler,' ‘call his supporters fascists.' “We were at Madison Square Garden. Laura, it was great to see you there. It was a fantastic night. “You had people like myself, Vivek Ramaswamy, ‘Harry-O,' the founder of Death Row Records. We spoke at that rally. Do you think the Nazis would let two black guys and a guy of Hindu dissent speak at a rally? At one of theirs? Absolutely not! But that's all they have. “The constant fear mongering and gaslighting is enough. People are sick of it. They're done. They're done with Kamala Harris and they're done with this version of the Democrat Party.” Washington Post, L.A. Times, & USA Today don't endorse for president Breaking with recent practice, major news outlets are not endorsing a candidate in the upcoming presidential election. The Washington Post announced last Friday it is not making a presidential endorsement for the first time in 36 years. The Los Angeles Times and USA Today also announced they will not be endorsing a candidate for president. In the wake of the decisions, top editors resigned and 200,000 left-leaning subscribers to the Washington Post cancelled their subscriptions. Many conservatives have concluded that Jeff Bezos and Patrick Soon-Shiong, the billionaire owners of the Washington Post and the Los Angeles Times respectively, have concluded that Trump is likely to win the 2024 election and do not want to irritate him by endorsing Kamala Harris. How God spared a couple in Hurricane Helene Queen City News reports a North Carolina couple is giving thanks to God after surviving Hurricane Helene. Howard Ray and his wife, Lisa, thought they were about to die as flooding swamped their trailer in Yancey County. However, they were able to escape the trailer and use their couch as a flotation device. Eventually, they made their way to safety. HOWARD: “I don't understand. We shouldn't be alive. I mean, there's just no way. It's all God.” LISA: “Yeah, we shouldn't be alive, but God has a purpose.” REPORTER: “What do you think that purpose is?” LISA: “I'm not sure. I'm still asking questions.” HOWARD: “I think maybe what we're doing right now, maybe it gets out and shows people that there is a God.” Lisa had to be hospitalized for some cuts, and Howard, a lieutenant with the local volunteer fire department, returned to the area to help first responders. They both praised God for His protection. Worldview listeners fully fund Pakistani orphanage well And finally, if you heard the newscast on Monday, you learned that a 200-foot-deep well of a Pakistani Christian orphanage, which housed 87 orphans, had become polluted with chemicals which tragically led to the deaths of two orphans. Toward the $15,000 cost of building a 500-foot-deep well which will deliver safe drinking water, Pastor Michael, the founder of the orphanage whom I have met personally, still needed to raise the final $4,185. Thanks to several Worldview donors on Monday, the amount remaining was $3,110. And yesterday, Michele in Altha, Florida gave $100, a couple from San Antonio, Texas gave $150, a family in Lexington Park, Maryland gave $150, a couple in Paw Paw, Michigan gave $500, a couple in Kailua Kona, Hawaii gave $500, a couple in Simpsonville, South Carolina gave $1,000, and Dick and Deborah in Wayland, Michigan -- along with their teenage sons Jonas and Jeremiah who contributed money from their dog-sitting business – gave $1,054.75. Those 7 donations add up to $3,454.75. That means we surpassed the goal by $344.75. The additional money will go toward the $2,000 monthly budget which pays for the food, clothing, medical care, and Christian education of the 85 orphans. If you would like to help with that budget, send your tax-deductible donation made out to Rio Grande Valley Prayer Center, their sister organization here in America. The address is 3106 Harmony Lane, Mission, TX 78574. In the memo, write: “Pakistani orphanage.” The prayer center will then wire your money to a nearby bank in Pakistan. Please email me at Adam@TheWorldview.com to let me know how much you sent so I can offer one final report on Thursday's newscast. James 1:27 says, “Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world.” Close And that's The Worldview on this Wednesday, October 30th, in the year of our Lord 2024. By 1520, Europe found itself in an interesting moment. The most significant leaders in the endless jostle for power and influence were all young kings - Henry VIII in England, around 30 years old; Francis I in France, around 26 years old; and Charles V as King of Spain and Holy Roman Emperor, at about 20 years old. You can imagine how potentially unstable an axis of entitled, army-commanding young kings might be, but it's noteworthy that there were cooler heads with bigger visions than wars of conquest moving pieces on the field of politics even then. Henry's England was still something of a third wheel in the spheres of influence of the era, but both Francis and Charles were eager to count the island nation as an ally in their machinations against each other. Henry's right hand man, Cardinal Thomas Wolsey, had the idea that it could be possible to produce an enduring peace among the Christian nations, particularly in light of the growing threat of the Ottoman Empire. Following the 1518 Treaty of London, a non-aggression pact between most of Europe's states, Wolsey wanted to showcase both the majesty and the (largely imaginary) friendship between England and France, resulting in a three-week-long summit between Henry VIII (and many thousands of courtiers, artisans, soldiers, and others) and Francis I (and many thousands of courtiers, artisans, soldiers, and others) on a large turnip field outside of Calais, then an English holding. The two sides spent months ahead of the June meeting building elaborate, but fake, castles, stadiums and other infrastructure to house, feed, and maintain the influx of people, horses, livestock, and goods that were soon to arrive. The Cloth of the Field of Gold was heralded as an event of great import, and Henry VIII would consider it a high point of his reign, but as we know, the dream of a peaceful Europe would not be realized for many centuries to come, and even now, remains a fragile and threatened thing. It is time, once again for our monthly roundup where we talk about three of the big stories of the month. In the summer sometimes the art news slows down, but the news news has not slowed down at all, of course. And we have three stories that we're going to talk about that are very much about where art and the news collide. Today we're going to talk about the critical reaction to the instantly famous photo of Donald Trump with his fist raised in the air immediately after the attempted assassination on him two weeks ago in Butler, Pennsylvania. A lot of art critics said that this photo was so powerful, it could define the race. Art critic Ben Davis had his doubts. Obviously, the news cycle moves very fast. This past weekend, Joe Biden dropped out of the presidential race and endorsed vice president Kamala Harris, and there's a whole new round of uses of the word "unprecedented" floating around. So we are going to talk about what, if anything, the lasting impact of this photo might be. Why it got such a reaction, and what the perils of decoding news images through the lens of art are. Then we're gonna talk about the defacement of a goddess statue by the artist Shahzia Sikander in Texas, which had been protested as satanic, and the artist's decision to leave it in its damaged form rather than repair it as a statement. And finally, we go down under to Australia for a story that has made international headlines. An artist created an art installation in the ladies' bathroom of a museum as a statement about sexism and gender discrimination, filling the washroom with Picasso paintings. But in a twist that has brought the story back into the news, the Picassos have now been revealed to be fake. Is this a serious story? Is it silly? It's a question that Art Angle co-hosts Ben Davis and Kate Brown tackle along with this week's guest, our hardworking news correspondent Adam Schrader.
John Price's severed head was boiling in a pot with veggies, his skin was hanging in one piece on a butcher's hook in the doorway and the walls were covered in blood. That was the crime scene retired detective Robert Wells walked into in 2000. Robert joins Gary Jubelin to talk about how he ran the murder investigation, and what it was like when he came face to face with the cannibal killer Katherine Knight. The news of Texas covered today includes:Our Lone Star story of the day: Man was I right?! CenterPoint, and Entergy to a lesser extent, are becoming the public scapegoat for the unpleasantness following weak Hurricane Beryl. Interestingly, the Houston Police Dept. did not even think it needed to go on full mobilization until 24 hours after the hurricane hit and I agree with them, it wasn't needed.Clearly the move up and East for landfall made it very difficult to have private sector crews stationed in the right places. And, let's think about the criticism that would have come from the same quarters if the storm had rapidly intensified and recovery crews and their had become casualties. Our Lone Star story of the day is sponsored by Allied Compliance Services providing the best service in DOT, business and personal drug and alcohol testing since 1995.Biden Campaign Deathwatch: Frenzy behind the Scenes. Will he bow out this evening?University of Houston's Satan statue beheaded during the hurricane – officials and media blame pro-lifers – that's a blame I'd be happy to carry all the way into the courthouse!Despite rumors to the contrary and Ken Paxton saying it was so, it doesn't look as if the Texas House Star Chamber is actually meeting next week to launch another impeachment attempt. This story does get the background of the shameful House Investigative Committee right.Listen on the radio, or station stream, at 5pm Central. Though each of the Twelve Apostles has his own Feast day, on this day they are commemorated together. Of the Twelve, only St John the Theologian died in peace; the rest met a martyr's end. Following are their individual feast days and the manner of their end. Roman citizens could not be crucified: crucifixion was considered a shameful death unworthy of a citizen. For this reason the Apostle Paul was 'privileged' to be beheaded. Peter: June 29, January 16. Crucified upside down. Andrew: November 30. Crucified. James the Son of Zebedee: April 30. Beheaded. John the Theologian: September 26, May 8. Died in peace in a wondrous way. Philip: November 14. Crucified. Bartholomew: June 11, August 25. Crucified, then flayed and beheaded. Thomas: October 6. Pierced with five spears. Matthew the Evangelist: November 16. Burned to death. James the Son of Aphaeos: October 9. Crucified. Thaddeus (or Jude the brother of James): June 19. Crucified. Simon the Zealot: May 10. Crucified. Matthias: August 9. Stoned, then beheaded with an axe when dead. Paul: June 29. Beheaded.

Full Text of ReadingsSaturday of the Eleventh Week in Ordinary Time Lectionary: 370The Saint of the day is Saint Thomas MoreSaint Thomas More's Story His belief that no lay ruler has jurisdiction over the Church of Christ cost Thomas More his life. Beheaded on Tower Hill, London, on July 6, 1535, More steadfastly refused to approve King Henry VIII's divorce and remarriage and establishment of the Church of England. Described as “a man for all seasons,” More was a literary scholar, eminent lawyer, gentleman, father of four children, and chancellor of England. An intensely spiritual man, he would not support the king's divorce from Catherine of Aragon in order to marry Anne Boleyn. Nor would he acknowledge Henry as supreme head of the Church in England, breaking with Rome, and denying the pope as head. More was committed to the Tower of London to await trial for treason: not swearing to the Act of Succession and the Oath of Supremacy. Upon conviction, More declared he had all the councils of Christendom and not just the council of one realm to support him in the decision of his conscience. Reflection Four hundred years later in 1935, Thomas More was canonized a saint of God. Few saints are more relevant to our time. In the year 2000, in fact, Pope John Paul II named him patron of political leaders. The supreme diplomat and counselor, he did not compromise his own moral values in order to please the king, knowing that true allegiance to authority is not blind acceptance of everything that authority wants. King Henry himself realized this and tried desperately to win his chancellor to his side because he knew More was a man whose approval counted, a man whose personal integrity no one questioned. But when Thomas More resigned as chancellor, unable to approve the two matters that meant most to Henry, the king had to get rid of him. Stealthing is the crime of removing a condom during sex without consent and is a form of rape. Clare McDonnell discusses why this is an under-reported crime with Metropolitan Police Deputy Assistant Commissioner for Local Policing, Helen Millichap, who leads the Met's focus on violence against women and girls, and Gemma Lindfield, Barrister at Five St Andrew's Hill Chambers.Actor Jill Halfpenny has starred in popular TV series such as Byker Grove, Coronation Street, EastEnders and The Cuckoo. She won an Olivier Award for her role in the musical Legally Blonde and she won the second series of BBC 1's Strictly Come Dancing. But, two tragic events have framed Jill's life story; when she was four years old her dad died suddenly of a heart attack. Then in 2017, in similarly tragic circumstances, her partner Matt died. Jill talks to Clare about confronting her grief head-on, something she examines in her new book, A Life Reimagined.Experts from across the world from a broad range of academic disciplines including psychology, medicine, policy studies, law and humanities are coming together with an aim to research an area which some say is underfunded and poorly understood. 4M Conference 2024 organiser, Professor Gemma Sharp, from the University of Exeter's School of Psychology, joins Clare to talk about her vision. The wives of Henry VIII are often reduced to the simplistic rhyme, ‘Divorced, Beheaded, Died. Divorced, Beheaded, Survived'. But a new exhibition at the National Portrait Gallery, Six Lives: The Stories of Henry VIII's Queens, seeks to focus on the stories and identities of these six individual women – rather than their infamous husband – and their transformation into popular icons.
