I was so unconvinced by either of my guests the other day regarding whether to vote yes or no on Douglas County Home Rule (and, to be clear, I don't vote in DougCo) that I'm doing it again. Two guests, one after the other -- not at the same time, offering their views. This time the "no" side goes first.

JOHN CARSON WANTS TO BE A DOUGCO COMMISSIONER And I'm gonna ask him at 2:30 why he wants to join the soap opera and I'm going to vote for him. Find out more about him here.
DOUGCO COUNTY COMMISSIONER ON AT 2:30 I normally don't cover state House and Senate races because there are too many of them. However, the soap opera in DougCo continues as a cabal of people supporting a ridiculously unfeasible water plan have decided to relentlessly attack Lora Thomas during her time on the DougCo commission and are now doing the same to her in her HD 43 race. I'm bringing her on just to irritate the cabal if I'm honest. She joins me at 2:30.
Dan asks for the best advice your dad ever gave you in advance of Father's Day this weekend.Jerry Sonnenberg joins Dan to update his campaign in the GOP primary for Colorado's 4th Congressional District, culminating with June 25th's election.Priscilla Rahn joins Dan to discuss her run for county commissioner in Douglas County, often a bellwether for Colorado politics statewide.

TAKING FROM PETER TO PAY PAUL IS NOT HOW TO FIX SCHOOL FUNDING School funding in Colorado is a complex matter. A lot of people think that what they pay in property taxes stays in their local district but that isn't how it works. Now members of the Legislature are working to "fix" the funding formula but I see some glaring flaws in what is being discussed, not the least of which is how are we going to pay for all of this when the Education fund runs dry in a couple of years? You can read the bill here if you'd like but hoo boy is it complicated. That's why I asked DougCo Superintendent Erin Kane to come on at 2:30 to talk about what this would mean for her district and others.
Sponsored by Tecovas, Western Week continues! As the longhorns paraded down 17th Street yesterday to kick off the National Western Stock Show, we gathered downtown to talk through the biggest stories of the week, each of which offers a look at the state of Colorado's urban-rural divide. Longtime Western Slope representative Lauren Boebert is switching districts — will she appeal to conservatives in Denver's suburbs? Then, thanks mostly to urban voters, wolf reintroduction is in full swing — so what does it all have to do with the Mile High price of a burger these days? Producer Paul Karolyi and host Bree Davies are joined by Aspen Times Western Slope politics reporter Elliott Wenzler to dig into the news and share the first Rocky Mountain Highs and Lows of 2024. Elliott talked about donkeys as the first line of defense against wolves, shouted out the Ouray Ice Festival, and mentioned Jesse Paul's coverage of Boebert's district switch. Bree referenced a story from The Oregonian about the impacts of wolf reintroduction and unrelated, Aaron Gordon's dog bites. Paul talked about Russell Wilson's good sportsmanship and the federal government's lack of support for Denver and the migrant crisis. What do you think? THE NEW SCHOOL BOARD PRESIDENT POPS IN TODAY This one from Douglas County, which is one of the only school board President's who will come on the show, by the way. Christy Williams is taking over for Mike Peterson, who stepped down from the board to move to another state to build his private company.
DOUGCO SUPERINTENDENT ERIN KANE We're talking why the district needs a Mill Levy Override to pay teachers more.
DAVID DICARLO WANTS TO BE ON THE DOUGCO SCHOOL BOARD And he's a solid conservative who I agree with in most ways. He does NOT support measures 5a and 5b however and therefore I can't endorse him. He's on at 2p today to discuss why he isn't for it and why he should be on the school board. Find out more about David by clicking here.
Hour 1 - Douglass County residents have started getting back their applications to lower their property taxes and some of them have gotten letters saying it will be raised even high. BJ and Jamie had a great time at the Marriot golf tournament yesterday benefitting Children's Hospital.
WHY DO WE NEED A MILL LEVY OVERRIDE IN DOUGCO? Superintendent Erin Kane is on at 2:35 to talk about the funding challenges DougCo faces because of the way schools are funded in Colorado. All of those giant property tax increases do NOT mean more money for DougCo schools, it just means the state kicks in less. Please listen up and then vote yes on this!
