Donald Trump erupted in fury at Representative Jamie Raskin in a long, rambling Truth Social post. Trump called him a “loser” who suffers from “Trump Derangement Syndrome.” But the tirade was unintentionally revealing. Trump raged that if Raskin and Democrats win the House, they will “impeach me” and called on Congress to “EXPEL THE BUM” before it's too late. In so doing, Trump revealed that he absolutely does fear impeachment. This gives Democrats a good argument: The last thing Trump wants is a Democratic Congress precisely because it will hold him accountable and put a check on his lawlessness. So what would this actually look like? We talked to Andy Craig, senior editor at The Unpopulist, who thinks creatively on this topic. We discuss the deeper reasons Trump fears another impeachment, all the hidden tools that the next Congress could use to constrain him, and why aggressive congressional action against Trump would rebalance our dangerously out-of-whack system. After the House voted to direct Donald Trump to end the Iran war, he exploded at the four Republicans who turned against him, terming them “grandstanders” who “should be ashamed of themselves.” This comes as The New York Times reports that extensive internal war games among military officials established that Iran would react to an attack by closing the Strait of Hormuz—which Trump ignored. And incredibly, officials just leaked to The Atlantic that Trump is privately “irritated” by commentary casting his emerging framework as weaker than Barack Obama's 2015 nuclear deal. Trump also wants a way to argue that Iran “accepted terms from him that Obama never managed to extract.” We talked to former National Security Council veteran Emily Horne, author of the Spin Class Substack. We discuss how all those leaks themselves signal Trump's growing weakness, why his demand for a “better” deal than Obama's may be hopeless, and whether that leaves us any way out of this fiasco. Love to hear from you; “Send us a Text Message”The strangest part of modern life is how easy it is to forget where we are. We sip coffee, scroll a phone, and act like reality is neutral, while the deeper story keeps moving under our feet. We step back and look at awe and wonder, not as a mood, but as a doorway into meaning, order, and purpose in creation and in the human body.We make a hard claim with practical consequences: the decisive battle of our age centers on the human heart, life, and marriage and family. Through a Catholic lens shaped by Scripture, the Trinity, and Catholic social teaching, we discover that marriage and family are not just one issue among many. They are foundational, a living sign of self-giving love, and that's exactly why they're attacked in culture, law, and even through confusing “pastoral” language that drifts from clear moral teaching. We also talk about synodality, the limits of accompaniment, and why “lived experience” can't replace the deposit of faith without leaving people more lost. Are you seeking the "Truth of Things" or do you have a desire to help young people? Donald Trump is hitting many new difficulties. On Monday, Iran abandoned talks with the U.S., angering Trump. Speaking to CNBC, he raged that he “couldn't care less” if the negotiations die, threatened again to blow Iran “to kingdom come,” and seethed that NATO's refusal to help reopen the Strait of Hormuz shows that it's “very weak” and “very sad.” (He then insisted the talks are back on track.) Meanwhile, Senate Republicans' anxiety over the politics of Trump's corrupt $1 billion slush fund has grown: As one reporter notes, they are “absolutely screwed.” The fund may be on hold, but this signals broader GOP frustration with Trump. We talked to Molly Jong-Fast, host of the Fast Politics podcast and author of a great TNR piece with editor Michael Tomasky on Trump's ongoing crackup. We discuss how Trump appears stuck in a mental loop, whether our country can survive two-and-a-half more years of him, and what a final GOP breaking point might look. Jaytriot is back, and the crew is glad to have him. He opens with a raw, honest account of his father's stroke, broken hip, UTI-induced hospital delirium, and the full-contact advocacy battle required just to keep an 87-year-old man from being discharged too early by a system turning over beds faster than bodies can heal. The episode pivots to Tulsi Gabbard leaving the DNI role after her husband Abraham is diagnosed with aggressive bone cancer, and what the new acting DNI Aaron Lucas's CIA background might mean for the office. The great admiral mask debate gets its most thorough airing yet, complete with a lighting expert Twitter thread, Zach's AI filter theory, and the crew ultimately landing on shadow. Matt then casually drops that in 1992 he snuck into post-Soviet Ukraine with $50, got adopted by factory workers on a train to the Black Sea, and spent weeks at a workers' vacation camp. Nobody blinks. World Cup 2026, John Hamm's fraternity crimes, and a Spencer Pratt mayoral update round out an unusually lively Friday night.

Republicans are starting to break with Donald Trump's corrupt $1.8 billion slush fund. Vulnerable House GOPer Brian Fitzpatrick announced that he's pursuing legislation to block the fund. Other Republicans, including Senate Majority Leader John Thune, are raising serious questions about it. Relatedly, Trump let out a bizarre, angry tirade about Rep. Fitzpatrick. Trump ripped him for disloyalty, snarling that this “doesn't work out well” for Republicans. Though Trump's anger might not have been about Fitzpatrick's opposition to the slush fund, Fitzpatrick also opposes his ballroom. So this shows how Republicans are enraging Trump by running from his corruption. We talked to Salon's Amanda Marcotte, who argues that Trump's corruption will be his main legacy. We discuss new polling showing Trump at record economic lows; why the fund is deadly for the GOP; and why Trump's pathologies don't permit him to let Republicans get distance from him. Donald Trump desperately wants the world to recognize his world-historical defeat of Iran. In an extended tirade, Trump raged wildly at a New York Times reporter, insisting his victory is absolute. He claimed the Times is failing, accusing the journalist of being a “fake guy” and declaring his coverage betrays America: “I actually think it's treason.” This is revealing: His insistence on having won reveals that Trump doesn't get that military force alone can't force open the Strait of Hormuz—meaning he doesn't grasp the situation at the most fundamental level, perhaps his biggest failing of all. We talked to political scientist David Faris, who's been writing well on this fiasco. We discuss how Trump got little out of China, why his failures abroad mean more authoritarianism at home, why that combination will do severe long-term damage to America, and how Trump suffers from “dictator envy.” Learn more about your ad choices. We bring you a BONUS episode of Say More this week, because a debate is raging among Boston Globe columnists Larry Edelman and Shirley Leung. Larry wrote a column applauding Fidelity Investments for ordering its workers back to the office 5 days a week - saying this move is what's needed to revitalize downtown Boston. Shirley wrote a rebuttal saying hybrid work is here to stay. Employees cannot go back to the way it was. Who do you agree with? Email us at saymore@globe.com. Evan Roberts and Tiki Barber dive into the growing drama between New York and Philadelphia after Tiki's blunt criticism of Joel Embiid sparked backlash from Philly sports media and fans. With the Knicks looking to take control of the series, the conversation turns into a heated debate about toughness, excuses, and whether the Sixers are already showing signs of frustration. The episode also touches on Kelly Oubre's comments about defending Jalen Brunson, the Yankees drawing early comparisons to the legendary 1998 team, Jacob deGrom's changing dominance, and the chaos of too many Jalens in the NBA. It is a lively mix of Knicks playoff energy, Philly fan outrage, baseball debate, and classic Evan and Tiki back and forth.

After Democrats narrowly passed a mid-decade redistricting in Virginia, Donald Trump erupted in fury on Truth Social. He slammed the result as rigged (of course), lied about the voting in it, and most important, openly called on the courts to step nullify it. But some Republicans are admitting the truth: This debacle is Trump's fault. He initiated a redistricting arms race that now backfired spectacularly. Yet there's a lesson in this madness: Trump-GOP cheating becomes a lot harder when Democrats fight it with scorched earth politics. We talked to Brian Beutler, who has argued well on his Off Message Substack that Democrats must get better at hard-edged politics in coming years. We discuss the deeper reasons that Democrats made a stand this time, how Trump revealed vulnerability to counter-hardball politics, and how this should shape future Democratic efforts at post-Trump accountability and fascism-proofing the system. Donald Trump has been raging at Marjorie Taylor Greene a lot lately. Why? Because improbably, Greene has emerged as a very effective critic of the president. In a striking CNN interview, Greene unloaded, declaring bluntly that Trump is mentally unfit for the presidency, that the people around Trump should rein him in, and that he's catastrophically failing. This is a watershed moment: Trump's disastrous Iran war, and his threat to obliterate Iranian civilization, are pushing some in MAGA to look past him. We talked to Salon's Amanda Marcotte, author of a good piece arguing that the Iran debacle is a new kind of problem for Trump. We discuss why JD Vance won't be able to escape its taint, why Trump's threat of genocide is a breaking point for so many Americans, and why Greene's criticism of Trump breaks surprising new ground. (After we recorded, Trump exploded in fury yet again at Greene and other critics.) Looking for More from the DSR Network?
