The Rich Zeoli Show- Hour 1: 3:05pm- During Day 6 of Donald Trump's “hush money” trial in New York City, Judge Juan M. Merchan and Trump's legal team clashed over whether the former President violated a court-issued gag order. Additionally, David Becker—the former publisher of The National Enquirer—testified that he would regularly purchase the rights to unflattering stories about Trump and then refuse to publish them—ostensibly burying the story. But is “catch and kill” journalism against the law? Rich notes that you can make the argument it is an ethically questionable practice, but it isn't illegal. 3:30pm- While leaving a New York City courthouse on Tuesday, former President Donald Trump suggested that the gag-order imposed on him by Judge Juan M. Merchan is unconstitutional and infringed upon his right to free speech. 3:40pm- Taylor Giorno of the Hill writes: “The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) voted 3-2 Tuesday to ban noncompete agreements that prevent tens of millions of employees from working for competitors or starting a competing business after they leave a job.” Does the FTC have the power to issue and enforce this ruling? Meanwhile, demonstrations at Columbia University have become so vitriolic that the school has decided to move classes from in-person to an online format for the remainder of the semester—citing a fear for the safety of Jewish students. In audio dating back to 2001, shortly after the terror attacks on September 11th, current Columbia University President Minouche Shafik can be heard outlandishly calling terrorism “a form of protesting.” 6:40pm- During Day 6 of Donald Trump's “hush money” trial in New York City, Judge Juan M. Elizabeth Elkind of Fox News writes: “A spokesperson for Speaker Mike Johnson, R-La., pointed out to Fox News Digital that House Republicans have passed multiple border security and immigration enforcement bills – none of which have been taken up by the Democrat-controlled Senate. The Johnson spokesperson indicated that with Republicans and Democrats still far apart on the issue, House GOP leaders are relying on former President Trump to take back the White House next year for any meaningful border policy changes to take place.” You can read the full article here: https://www.foxnews.com/politics/senate-wont-pass-border-security-legislation-year-johnsons-office-suggests 5:40pm- On Saturday, the House of Representatives passed four foreign aid bills totaling $95 billion—including a package that would send $60 billion to Ukraine. The bills had cleared a key procedural hurdle last Friday with bipartisan support—316 to 94, passing with more Democrat than Republican support. The aid package includes a measure that, if passed in the Senate and signed by President Joe Biden, would force Chinese company ByteDance to sell its popular social media platform TikTok to an American-based company—citing a threat to national security. Refusal to sell TikTok would result in the app being banned in the United States. According to reports from Politico and The New York Times, the Biden Administration invested considerable time and effort into a campaign to persuade Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) that aid to Ukraine was necessary. 6:05pm- Kash Patel—former Chief of Staff to the Secretary of Defense—joins The Rich Zeoli Show to discuss his book, “Government Gangsters: The Deep State, the Truth, and the Battle for Our Democracy.” During the conversation, Patel notes that instead of being in Pennsylvania on primary day, Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump is forced to sit in a New York City courthouse, defending himself against politically motivated charges. Hour 2 of The Dawn Stensland Show: Dennis Parada—Owner of Finders Keepers—joins the show to talk about his quest to find an estimated $1 billion worth of lost Civil War gold. Earlier this year, Finders Keepers filed a lawsuit against the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) for records pertaining to a March 2018 excavation in Elks County, PA that may have resulted in the legendary treasure being unearthed. According to Parada and his team, the government initially claimed to possess seventeen videos of the excavation. However, the number of available videos has now been reduced to four. Finders Keepers believes government officials found the missing gold but are now unwilling to admit it. The finder’s fee, which Dennis believes he is entitled to, could be between 10 and 25%—potentially worth hundreds of millions of dollars. During Day 3 of the House’s January 6th Committee Hearings, Democrat Congressman Bennie G. Thompson praised former Vice President Mike Pence for showing “courage” in opposing any scheme to overturn the results of the 2020 election. Are news outlets starting to embrace centrism and moderation? According to reports, the owner of USA Today plans to scale-back the number of opinion editorials featured in its publications—the outlet fears that readers interpret the op-eds as USA Today pushing a progressive political agenda. Interestingly, CNN’s new CEO, Chris Licht, seems to be advocating for his news station to take more moderate positions on-air. During a recent interview, Don Lemon grilled White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre.
During Day 2 of the January 6th House Select Committee Hearing, former Attorney General Bill Barr, in recorded testimony, stated he has not seen any evidence of election fraud. Barr went on to say that if Donald Trump truly believes the election fraud claims being made, he is “detached from reality.” In his testimony to the House Select Committee, Trump Campaign Senior Adviser Jason Miller suggested that Donald Trump solicited election-night advice from a “definitely intoxicated” Rudy Giuliani.
Hour 2 of The Dawn Stensland Show: During an interview with the New York Times’ Andrew Ross Sorkin, Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen explained that while inflation is a concern, she does not expect a recession is on the horizon. While visiting Philadelphia on Tuesday, President Joe Biden spoke at the AFL-CIO’s Quadrennial Constitutional Convention at the PA Convention Center. During his speech, Biden discussed the economy, reducing the annual federal deficit, and the national labor movement. Contradicting predictions from Sec. Yellen and the Biden Administration, economist Larry Summers stated he believes a recession is “more likely than not” to occur within the next two years. A new Wall Street Journal opinion-editorial board column documents the Biden Administration’s push to use Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac to combat “racial bias.” The editorial states, “the government-sponsored enterprises released plans to promote housing ‘equity’” using “race-based subsidies.” The WSJ editorial board argues the subsidies are likely unconstitutional.

This is Show #17 - Race and Ethnic Relations on Campus - Teaching a Race Relations Seminar - Day 1 - in which I discuss the challenges of teaching a college seminar on race relations to a group of Honor students at my university. During Day 1, I felt unsure as an instructor on how to approach my students and I could tell that they did not feel comfortable with me as an African American professor initially. Thus, I talk about how we overcame these very subtle issues in order to begin teaching this very sensitive topic of "race relations." If you have any comments, feel free to email me at: ejb678@gmail.com. I look forward to your feedback and input!
