The Rich Zeoli Show- Hour 2:  According to a report from Sareen Habeshian of Axios, the “National Archives did not meet the Tuesday deadline to turn over requested materials to the House Committee on Oversight and Accountability for its investigation into classified documents found in President Biden's home and former office.” According to a report from Ben Zeisloft of The Daily Wire, former Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) sold 30,000 shares of Alphabet Inc. one month prior to the Justice Department's announcement that it would be filing an antitrust lawsuit against Google—claiming the search engine monopolizes online advertising. On Tuesday, Senator Josh Hawley (R-MO) introduced the “PELOSI Act” designed to crackdown on politicians engaging in insider trading. In a new Daily Wire opinion editorial, Tim Meads wonders why anyone would continue to trust high-ranking officials within the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI)—citing the story of FBI agent Charles McGonigal, who investigated Trump-Russia collusion and was recently arrested for money laundering and corrupt ties with a Russian oligarch. Mead recounts several other recent instances of corruption with the bureau.

The Rich Zeoli Show- Full Episode (01/25/2023): 3:05pm- On Wednesday, President Joe Biden announced that his administration will provide the Ukrainian military with thirty-one M1 Abrams tanks. Biden stated the tanks will allow Ukraine to defend itself against Russian attacks. The New York Times has reported that the tanks will “not likely arrive for many months, if not years.” However, it is believed that Germany will approve its own tanks for Ukrainian use immediately. Germany had prevented other European countries from exporting German-made tanks to Ukraine without prior U.S. approval and coordination.  3:30pm- Rich and Matt recap Florida Governor Ron DeSantis' appearance at Philadelphia's Union League Tuesday night. Gov. DeSantis was awarded the club's highest honor—a gold medal which was first awarded to President Abraham Lincoln in 1863. Other recipients include President Dwight Eisenhower and Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia.  3:40pm- On Tuesday, Speaker of the House Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) officially removed Representatives Adam Schiff (D-CA) and Eric Swalwell (D-CA) from the House Intelligence Committee.  3:45pm- How much money is the Biden Administration willing to spend defending Ukraine? At what point will funding the Ukraine-Russia war require Congressional approval?  3:50pm- While speaking with MSNBC's Andrea Mitchell, Congressman Adam Schiff (D-CA) said he has never taken classified documents home but suggested, in light of Donald Trump, Joe Biden, and Mike Pence all mishandling classified material, there is a “problem” that needs to be addressed.  4:05pm- According to a report from Sareen Habeshian of Axios, the “National Archives did not meet the Tuesday deadline to turn over requested materials to the House Committee on Oversight and Accountability for its investigation into classified documents found in President Biden's home and former office.” 4:10pm- According to a report from Ben Zeisloft of The Daily Wire, former Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) sold 30,000 shares of Alphabet Inc. one month prior to the Justice Department's announcement that it would be filing an antitrust lawsuit against Google—claiming the search engine monopolizes online advertising. On Tuesday, Senator Josh Hawley (R-MO) introduced the “PELOSI Act” designed to crackdown on politicians engaging in insider trading. 4:40pm- In a new Daily Wire opinion editorial, Tim Meads wonders why anyone would continue to trust high-ranking officials within the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI)—citing the story of FBI agent Charles McGonigal, who investigated Trump-Russia collusion and was recently arrested for money laundering and corrupt ties with a Russian oligarch. Mead recounts several other recent instances of corruption with the bureau. 5:00pm- Dr. Victoria Coates—former Deputy National Security Advisor for Middle East and North African Affairs & Senior Fellow at The Heritage Foundation—joins The Rich Zeoli Show to break down the Biden Administration's decision to send thirty-one M1 Abrams tanks to Ukraine. How will Russia respond to this decision? And did Germany ostensibly force President Biden to send tanks? Dr. Coates also discusses President Joe Biden's mishandling of classified documents and why it's incredibly problematic—particularly when considering Hunter Biden may have had access to the files at the Biden family's Wilmington, Delaware home.  5:30pm- A report from the Government Accountability Office estimates that fraudulent lockdown-era unemployment payments very likely amount to more than $60 billion—with 7.6% of all lockdown-era unemployment payments being fraudulent.  5:35pm- Meta has restored former President Donald Trump's Facebook page. The Washington Post writes, “[b]eing reinstated to Facebook means Trump will be able to resume fundraising to his presidential campaign.”  5:45pm- Caller Joe nonsensically yells at Rich about “antiquated” M1 Abrams tanks… 6:00pm- On Wednesday, President Joe Biden announced that his administration will provide the Ukrainian military with thirty-one M1 Abrams tanks. Callers weigh-in on the decision: Is the U.S. inching closer and closer to direct conflict with Russia? 6:15pm- Speaking to the press on Tuesday, New York Governor Kathy Hochul said she would not rehire healthcare workers who were fired for refusing COVID-19 vaccinations—despite the state suffering from a “crisis level” shortage of healthcare staff.  6:25pm- Rich is preempted by Temple University basketball!

Tom has published several critically acclaimed books, including  Funding Virtue: Civil Society and Democracy Promotion, Promoting the Rule of Law Abroad, and most recently Democracies Divided: The Global Challenge of Political Polarization. He's also been a visiting member at the CEU, and is a member of the advisory board of our Democracy Institute in Budapest.GLOSSARY:What are the United States midterm elections?(02:27 or p.1 in the transcript)United States midterm elections are general elections that occur every four years in the middle of the U.S. presidential term. The election process mandated by Article I of the United States Constitution, by which all members of the United States House of Representatives and roughly a third of the members of the U.S. Senate are on the ballot, occurs every two years. (Currently, the House of Representatives has 435 members, and the Senate has 100.) Midterm elections get their name because they occur halfway through a president's four-year term. In addition to elections for members of Congress, 36 states hold their gubernatorial elections during the midterm cycle. Many local races and citizen-generated initiatives also can appear on midterm ballots. In general, fewer Americans vote in midterm elections than in presidential elections. Whereas about 60 percent of eligible voters typically cast ballots in presidential election years, that percentage falls to about 40 percent for midterms. (Voter turnout in the 2018 midterm elections was 50 percent, the highest since 1914. Turnout for the 2022 midterms was estimated at 47 percent.) sourceWhat is the OECD?(07:26 or p.3 in the transcript)Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development, international organization founded in 1961 to stimulate economic progress and world trade. Member countries produce two-thirds of the world's goods and services. The convention establishing the OECD was signed on Dec. 14, 1960, by 18 European countries, the United States, and Canada and went into effect on Sept. 30, 1961. It represented an extension of the Organisation for European Economic Co-operation (OEEC), set up in 1948 to coordinate efforts in restoring Europe's economy under the Marshall Plan. One of the fundamental purposes of the OECD is to achieve the highest possible economic growth and employment and a rising standard of living in member countries; at the same time, it emphasizes maintaining financial stability. The organization has attempted to reach this goal by liberalizing international trade and the movement of capital between countries. A further major goal is the coordination of economic aid to developing countries. Current OECD members are Austria, Australia, Belgium, Canada, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Japan, Korea, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Mexico, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Slovak Republic, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Turkey, the United Kingdom, and the United States. source. What was the January 6 insurrection at the US Capitol?(15:32 or p.5 in the transcript)January 6 insurrection or January 6 U.S. Capitol attack was the storming of the United States Capitol on January 6, 2021, by a mob of supporters of Republican Pres. Donald J. Trump. The attack disrupted a joint session of Congress convened to certify the results of the presidential election of 2020, which Trump had lost to his Democratic opponent, Joe Biden. Because its object was to prevent a legitimate president-elect from assuming office, the attack was widely regarded as an insurrection or attempted coup d'état. The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and other law-enforcement agencies also considered it an act of domestic terrorism. For having given a speech before the attack in which he encouraged a large crowd of his supporters near the White House to march to the Capitol and violently resist Congress's certification of Biden's victory—which many in the crowd then did—Trump was impeached by the Democratic-led House of Representatives for “incitement of insurrection” (he was subsequently acquitted by the Senate). sourceDemocracy in Question? is brought to you by:• Central European University: CEU• The Albert Hirschman Centre on Democracy in Geneva: AHCD• The Podcast Company: NovelFollow us on social media!• Central European University: @CEU• Albert Hirschman Centre on Democracy in Geneva: @AHDCentreSubscribe to the show. Today is MLK Day which commemorates Civil Rights activist, Baptist preacher and Nobel Peace Prize winner Martin Luther King Jr. who was known for his activism against segregation and his advocacy for civil rights. Per the American Association of State Colleges and Universities, the "MLK Day of Service empowers individuals, strengthens communities, bridges barriers, creates solutions to social problems, and moves us closer to Dr. King's vision of a “Beloved Community." While some see it this way others have not over the course of history. According to History.com, there was a fight for a holiday to commemorate Martin Luther King Jr.'s honor. The article states that "the suggestion that King—a Black minister who was vilified during his life and gunned down when he was just 39 years old—deserved a holiday was nothing short of incendiary." You don't have to have a college degree to serve. You don't have to make your subject and verb agree to serve. You only need a heart full of grace. A soul generated by love." — Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., "The Drum Major Instinct" Sermon. "Even though it may be true that the law cannot change the heart, it can restrain the harvest. Even though it may be true that the law cannot make a man love me, it can restrain him from lynching me, and I think that's pretty important also. And so, while the law may not change the hearts of men, it can and it does change the habits of men. On November 13, 2022, four college students from the University of Idaho were stabbed to death in their home. Following weeks of investigations, police in Moscow, Idaho, charged 28-year-old Bryan Kohberger for the murders of Madison Mogen, Kaylee Goncalves, Xana Kernodle, and Ethan Chapin. Jonathan T. Ties of this story to Real estate have peaked my interest.  #1 was the notice of bond being tied to his parents home on the Stanford campus#2 was the use of the word commingling of funds, which is also a big no-no word in Real Estate#3 was alleged use of those funds to by real estate in other countries such as the Bahamas. Bankman-Fried [SBF] will be back at the home he grew up in, a house in the middle of Stanford's campus, according to federal political filings that disclose the address. He will remain under house arrest, but can leave for substance use treatment, exercise and mental health purposes. US District Judge Gabriel Gorenstein signed off on the deal Thursday, allowing the disgraced FTX founder and ex-CEO — who is staring down a slew of charges which carry a sentence of up to 115 years — to leave New York for his home state. In granting him pretrial release, Gorenstein said Bankman-Fried had "achieved sufficient notoriety that it would be impossible" for him to engage in further financial schemes or to hide without being recognized.Nicolas Roos, a prosecutor, told Gorenstein that the bail package would require Bankman-Fried to surrender his passport and remain in home confinement at his parents' home in Palo Alto, California. He would also be required to undergo regular mental health treatment and evaluation.Cohen [SBF Atty] said he agreed with prosecutors' proposed bail conditions. He noted that Bankman-Fried's parents - both Stanford Law School professors - would co-sign the bond and post the equity in their home as assurance for his return to court. Both appeared at the hearing. The record-breaking bond would be partially secured by Bankman-Fried's parents' interest in their five-bedroom, three-bathroom home — which Zillow estimates to be worth north of $4 million — and that equity would have to be paid within three weeks, Gorenstein said."My client remained where he was, he made no effort to flee," Cohen [SBF Atty]  said. The bond is meant to ensure that if Bankman-Fried flees, the government could confiscate the family's assets - including their Palo Alto home - up to $250 million. Reuters could not determine the family's total net worth.Bankman-Fried said at a New York Times conference on Nov. 30, following the exchange's collapse, that he had $100,000 in his bank account.Roos [prosecutor] said that evidence at trial would consist of testimony from "multiple cooperating witnesses," [Ellison and Wang] as well as thousands of pages of written communications.Just hours after Bankman-Fried's plane from the Bahamas took off, Damian Williams, the top federal prosecutor in Manhattan, announced that two of Bankman-Fried's closest associates - former Alameda CEO Caroline Ellison and FTX co-founder Gary Wang - had pleaded guilty and were cooperating with prosecutors. The alleged crypto grifter will be able to leave his parents' house for exercise, mental health and substance abuse treatment. He will also be allowed to shop online, but is banned from making any non-sanctioned payments above $1,000 that aren't legal fees, prosecutors said.  Assistant US Attorney [the PROSECUTOR!!!] Nick Roos argued in favor of the house arrest, saying the fact that Bankman-Fried “voluntarily consented to extradition” from the Bahamas “should be given weight.”His $250 million bond is 25 times larger than the collateral that officials demanded from disgraced Ponzi scheme financier Bernie Madoff in 2009 [Judge Gabriel Gorenstein same judge giving bail to SBF].Damian Williams [lead prosecutor with Roos], the United States Attorney for the Southern District of New York, and Michael J. Driscoll, the Assistant Director in Charge of the New York Field Office of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (“FBI”), announced the extradition of SAMUEL BANKMAN-FRIED, a/k/a “SBF,” yesterday from the Bahamas.[1] Also unsealed are the guilty pleas of CAROLINE ELLISON, former CEO of Alameda Research, and GARY WANG, co-founder and former Chief Technology Officer of FTX.  ELLISON and WANG pled guilty before U.S. District Judge Ronnie Abrams on December 19, 2022, to charges arising from their participation in schemes to defraud FTX's customers and investors, and related crimes, and are cooperating with the Government.Mr. Williams praised the investigative work of the FBI and thanked the FBI for its partnership in the extradition of Mr. Bankman-Fried and its investigation of wrongdoing associated with Alameda Research and FTX.  Mr. Williams also thanked the Bahamas' government as well as the United States Embassy in the Bahamas for their extraordinary efforts in the arrest and return of the defendant to the United States to face these charges.  He also expressed appreciation for the assistance of the Justice Department's Office of International Affairs. This case is being handled by the Office's Securities and Commodities Fraud Task Force. Assistant U.S. Attorneys Nicolas Roos and Danielle Sassoon are in charge of the prosecution.  The Money Laundering and Transnational Criminal Enterprises Unit and Assistant U.S. Attorneys Samuel Raymond and Thane Rehn also contributed to the investigation. The allegations in the Indictment against BANKMAN-FRIED are merely accusations, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty. The [OLD CASE] prosecutor [Marc Litt] who put Bernie Madoff in federal prison for running a Ponzi scheme that defrauded investors of billions of dollars said Friday it's “highly unusual” for Sam Bankman-Fried to be speaking publicly about the November collapse of his crypto platform FTX amid widespread allegations of fraud.“It's highly unusual for a subject of a high-profile criminal investigation to be conducting media interviews and public appearances during which he discusses the conduct being investigated,” Marc Litt, who prosecuted Madoff for the Southern District of New York in 2009, told The Hill. “No criminal defense attorney [Cohen in this case] I know would recommend doing that, and no matter how careful Mr. Bankman-Fried thinks he can be, it's almost inevitable that something he says will come back to haunt him if charges are ever brought,” he said.[from 2008] NEW YORK, Dec 17 (Reuters) - Bail conditions for Bernard Madoff, the financier accused of one of the biggest frauds in Wall Street history, have been modified to include electronic monitoring, according to court documents released on Wednesday.U.S. District Court Magistrate Judge Gabriel Gorenstein [same judge giving bail to SBF] said Madoff's wife Ruth was required to surrender her passport by noon on Thursday and said a hearing scheduled for Wednesday was canceled.“In light of this order and the agreement of both the defendant and the government to the changes in the bail conditions, there is no need for a further hearing on bail today,” the judge's written order said. “Accordingly, the hearing is canceled.”  [old from 2008][Parents other home] Bankman-Fried's parents, Stanford University law professors Joseph Bankman and Barbara Fried, are reportedly listed as signatories on a beach house within the Old Fort Bay gated community.  Sam Bankman-Fried claimed he didn't know how a $16.4 million Bahamas mansion got listed under his parents' names, insisting that it was meant to house staffers at his now-defunct FTX cryptocurrency exchange.“I don't know the details of the house for my parents,” Bankman-Fried told the New York Times' Andrew Ross Sorkin via Zoom at the newspaper's DealBook summit event in New York City on Wednesday. “I know it was not intended to be their long-term property. It was intended to be the company's property. I don't know how that was papered in.”Bankman-Fried's parents, Stanford University law professors Joseph Bankman and Barbara Fried, were listed as the owners of a home in a gated community on the Bahamas.Property records described the house as a “vacation home,” according to Reuters, which was the first to report the news.  #1 the home is estimated to be worth about $4 mill according to Zillow.  Realtor.com says about 3.2 mill  Bankman-Fried's parents bought their cozy four-bedroom, three-bath home in 1992 for about $700,000 — close to $1.5 million in today's money — records show.  What we know about the house.  ~1 acre.  On or adjacent to Stanford Campus.  In ground pool. This was a pretty boring news week. ChatGPT took up all the air, so we tried it out to see if it could podcast better than us! Spoiler alert - Not yet. The ChatGPT summaries (included below as an fyi) were ALL wrong in some way, and we discuss how in the podcast. Article 1 - AWS strains to make Simple Storage Service not so simple to screw upChatGPT Summary - Amazon Web Services (AWS) has announced a new feature for its Simple Storage Service (S3) called S3 Replication Time Control (S3 RTC), which allows users to specify the exact time that objects should be replicated between S3 storage classes and AWS regions. S3 RTC is designed to help users reduce costs and improve the efficiency of their data replication processes by allowing them to specify when replication should occur and how often it should be repeated. The feature also includes options for scheduling replication during specific time windows and for specifying different replication times for different object groups. AWS believes that S3 RTC will be particularly useful for users who need to replicate data between regions for disaster recovery or compliance purposes, as it allows them to specify exact replication times to meet their specific business needs. Article 2 - Royal Ransomware Puts Novel Spin on Encryption TacticsChatGPT Summary - The article discusses a new variant of ransomware called "Royal Ransomware," which uses novel encryption tactics to evade detection and make recovery more difficult. The ransomware is delivered through a phishing email that contains a malicious link or attachment, which, when clicked, installs the malware on the victim's system. Once installed, the ransomware encrypts the victim's files and demands a ransom in exchange for the decryption key. What sets Royal Ransomware apart from other ransomware is its use of advanced techniques to avoid detection by security software and to make it more difficult for victims to recover their data. These techniques include using multiple layers of encryption, deleting shadow copies of the victim's files, and installing a rootkit to maintain persistence on the victim's system. The article advises organizations to implement strong cybersecurity measures, such as email filtering and employee training, to protect against ransomware attacks. Article 3 - InfraGard, FBI Program for Critical Infrastructure Cybersecurity, Breached by HackersChatGPT Summary - The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has issued a warning about a recent cyber attack on the InfraGard program, which is a partnership between the FBI and private sector organizations to share information about critical infrastructure and cybersecurity threats. The attack reportedly involved the use of a phishing email that was sent to InfraGard members, which contained a link that, when clicked, installed malware on the recipient's computer. The malware gave the attackers access to the victim's system and allowed them to steal login credentials and other sensitive information. The FBI is advising InfraGard members and other organizations to be cautious when opening emails and to use strong passwords and two-factor authentication to protect against these types of attacks.Supporting Article:FBI’s Vetted Info Sharing Network ‘InfraGard’ Hacked Article 4 -

According to Stanford Ed - Levison, Stanley David: In 1956 Stanley Levison, a Jewish attorney from New York, began raising funds to support the Montgomery bus boycott and became acquainted with Martin Luther King, Jr. The two men developed a close relationship in which Levison not only advised King, but also aided him with the day-to-day administrative demands of the movement. In 1963, the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) used King's relationship with Levison, who they believed to be a Communist functionary, to justify surveillance of King. Born in New York City on 2 May 1912, Levison studied at the University of Michigan, Columbia University, and the New School for Social Research before earning two law degrees from St. John's University. As treasurer of the Manhattan branch of the American Jewish Congress, Levison became a champion of left-wing causes and supported the defense of Julius and Ethel Rosenberg and the campaign against the McCarran Internal Security Act. In the early 1950s the FBI considered Levison to be a major financial coordinator for the Communist Party in the United States and began to monitor his activities. In the mid-1950s Levison turned his attention to the civil rights struggle. In 1956 Levison, Bayard Rustin, and Ella Baker created In Friendship, an organization that raised money for southern civil rights activists and organizations, including the Montgomery Improvement Association (MIA). Together they formulated the concept of a regional “Congress of organizations” dedicated to mass action grounded in nonviolence, an idea that would later develop into the Southern Christian Leadership Conference (SCLC) (Papers 3:491). So yeah, make sure you tap into this conversation. And make sure you like, share and comment! Thanks in advance! RBCF! The Rich Zeoli Show- Full Episode (12/05/22): 3:05pm- On behalf of Elon Musk and Twitter, investigative journalist Matt Taibbi released a series of tweets documenting Twitter's efforts to suppress the Hunter Biden laptop story prior to the 2022 Presidential election at the behest of the Biden campaign team. Taibbi wrote, “[b]y 2020, requests from connected actors to delete tweets were routine. One executive would write to another: ‘More to review from the Biden team.' The reply would come back: ‘Handled.'” The Wall Street Journal's editorial board noted the release as “confirmation of the central role that former spies played in October 2020 in framing the Hunter Biden story in a way that made it easier for Twitter and Facebook to justify their censorship.” 3:35pm- While speaking about his decision to acquire Twitter and publicizing the platform's decision to censor information at the behest of elected officials and political candidates in the past, Elon Musk said, “sunshine is a great disinfectant” for “content take downs” requests and fulfillments. 3:50pm- While appearing on Fox News with Tucker Carlson, actor James Woods revealed that he plans to sue the Democratic National Committee for allegedly ordering Twitter to remove Woods' messages from the social media platform. 4:05pm- On ABC's “This Week,” George Stephanopoulos asked House Democrat Leader Hakeem Jeffries about allegations he is an election denier. U.S. and other athletes, he said, also shouldn't remain silent about widespread reports that thousands of migrant workers died in recent years working in Qatar on World Cup projects and stadiums.” Crabtree and Rich also discuss the latest regarding Elon Musk's claims of politically influenced censorship on Twitter.  5:25pm- On TikTok, a high school English teacher bizarrely suggested that grammar and writing rules are racist and oppressive.  5:30pm- While speaking with tech-journalist Kara Swisher, former Head of Trust & Safety at Twitter Yoel Roth defended the social media company's decision to ban the satirical account Babylon Bee for misgendering Dr. Rachel Levin in a joke.  5:40pm- Senator Rand Paul (R-KY) said that if the FBI is asking social media companies to suppress certain, inherently political stories, “we have a real problem.”  6:05pm- In the aftermath of Elon Musk exposing Twitter's decision to suppress the Hunter Biden laptop story, The Wall Street Journal published a public statement issued by intelligence officials from October 19th, 2020.
