This week is the anniversary of two events which define the State in the U.S., both in the past and today. In 1969, the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and the Chicago Police Dept. assassinated Black Panther leader Fred Hampton and his associate Mark Clark while they slept in Hampton's home. Hampton had been an up and coming, inspiring, leader in the Chicago community and worked to build coalition with a variety of groups in the area. The FBI had viewed Hampton as a potential “messiah,” who needed to be “neutralized.” When the COINTELPRO program was exposed, it was clear that the FBI had worked to eliminate domestic enemies like Hampton and the Black Panther Party. In 1980, the rape and murder of four Catholic missionary nuns by U.S. backed death squads sparked international outrage and criticism of President Carter's support for the government in El Salvador. Carter initially suspended aid to the regime, he later reinstated it, and President Reagan continued this support. Later in the 1990s, when documents were declassified revealing the extent to which the U.S. support torture and terror campaigns, former NJ congressman Robert Torricelli said that it was "now clear that while the Reagan Administration was certifying human rights progress in El Salvador they knew the terrible truth that the Salvadoran military was engaged in a widespread campaign of terror and torture".Despite a history of these events, the movement continues. Epstein pleaded guilty and was convicted in 2008 by a Florida state court of procuring a child for prostitution and of soliciting a prostitute. Last Thursday, the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) announced it had made arrests in a pair of investigations into illegal gambling involving National Basketball Association (NBA) players and coaches. Miami Heat guard Terry Rozier is among those charged in the illegal sports betting case, while Portland Trail Blazers coach Chauncey Billups and several others are charged with participating in rigged poker games with ties to the mafia. According to FBI Director Kash Patel, the bureau has arrested 34 people as a result of the multi-year investigations, which covered 11 states and involved tens of millions of dollars. Send us a textEdward You is recently coming off an amazing career at the U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) where most recently he served in roles as Supervisory Special Agent, National Counterintelligence Task Force, Counterintelligence Division, as well as a Supervisory Special Agent in the FBI's Weapons of Mass Destruction Directorate.  He was also previously simultaneously detailed as a Liaison Officer at the Department of Health and Human Services, Office of National Security, and as a National Counterintelligence Officer for Emerging and Disruptive Technologies, in the Office of the Director of National Intelligence (ODNI).Mr. You was responsible for creating programs and activities to coordinate and improve FBI and interagency activities to identify, assess, and respond to biological threats or incidents.  He supported FBI initiatives to build partnerships with the life sciences community, domestically and internationally, and lead efforts to identify and address potential security challenges in advanced biotechnology. On Monday night, the Department of Justice (DOJ) released a joint memo with the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) affirming prior findings in the investigation into convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. The memo concludes that materials related to the Epstein case prove that he had committed suicide in 2019, that Epstein did not have a “client list,” and that no other parties were materially implicated as a result of the government's investigation. Los Angeles County District Attorney and Sheriff talk to Dr. Phil about charges against looters and arsonists Los Angeles County District Attorney Nathan Hochman talks to Dr. Phil about charging 10 individuals in four crimes committed during the devastating wildfires. Nine people are facing felony charges in connection to residential burglaries in the cities of Pacific Palisades and Altadena, and a separate defendant has been charged with arson for intentionally starting a fire in the city of Azusa. “These crimes are appalling and represent a direct attack on our community during a time of unprecedented loss and vulnerability,” District Attorney Hochman said. “Let me be clear: If you exploit this tragedy to prey on victims of these deadly fires, we will find you and we will prosecute you to the fullest extent of the law.”  The felony charges were the result of a multi-agency collaboration that underscores the strength of local, state, and federal partnerships.
