Finances. A deeply intimate, intimidating, and yet common struggle in couple communication. Finances are an inherent part of daily living, yet we treat them as though they are taboo or the plague. We often hold discussing it as more vulnerable than every other topic, including sex or religion. Despite money being a crucial part of our lives, we rarely receive any education around how to interact with finances and talk about it with our family or partner. This can create apprehension, fear, and complete avoidance. Time to switch it up and bring this topic into the light!   Join us as we welcome another guest to discuss money with couples and financial therapy, Dr. Alycia DeGraff, LMFT. Dr. DeGraff earned her clinical master's degree in Marriage and Family Therapy from Texas Tech and her doctorate degree in Human Development and Family Science from the University of Georgia.  Dr. DeGraff specializes in financial therapy, therapy that focuses on our relationship and patterns with our finances individually and as a partnership. Dr. DeGraff shares her profound clinical insights about why this topic is important in couples, how we develop our narratives around finances, effective tools to start this challenging conversation, and ways to improve our relationship with money in the future. You don't want to miss this one! If you find this episode, or any of our other episodes, helpful to you, please share with those that you love! Today's guest is a financial behaviorist and has quite an interesting story as to how she got there. Jacquette Timmons started college at the Fashion Institute of Technology here in New York City at the young age of 16 years old where she was determined to make her mark as a shoe designer.  The first semester into college she realized that she wasn't so good at drawing so she switched to become a marketing major. Before graduating she met her mentor who encouraged her to head to Wall Street.  At that moment, Jacquette realized that there is a lot in common between the designer mindset and the world of money and personal finance. Fast forward years later and Jacquette is now a financial behaviorist and helps others to identify underlying behaviors and beliefs that help them from reaching their financial goals. She is also a coach, teacher, speaker and writer who talks about everything from common financial problems for the middle class to the 1%.  She is also the founder of Sterling Investment Management, Inc. and author of "Financial Intimacy: How to Create a Healthy Relationship with Your Money and Your Mate."
